We were seriously concerned about moving from a 4,000 square foot house to a 450 square foot apartment. After almost 62 years of marriage, we discovered that we still like each other. We absolutely like and appreciate all the staff and the services that are offered. No more cooking, dishes, cleaning, laundry or forgetting to order or take medications. Our stresses have been significantly reduced. We realize we would have been better off moving here when everyone else knew we needed assisted living. After viewing other facilities, we are extremely happy that we chose Brookdale Santa Catalina.

My mom has been at Brookdale Santa Catalina assisted living for over 2 years. First and by far the most important is that EVERYONE on staff is kind and patient. I never worry about her wellbeing or safety. The food is excellent!! Almost every window has a beautiful view with plenty of birds and wildlife. The interior is clean. The only drawback is the carpet is cleaned frequently but still has stains from walkers, wheelchairs and spills. (Life in assisted living ‚)

I was a stranger from Ohio who broke some bones and had to have surgery and then a 4 week stay here at Brookdale. As a nurse I dreaded staying in a "nursing home". I needn't have feared. All the staff were friendly and helpful. PT/OT were excellent, Doreen, and Matt, Grace, Ester, and the rest. Additionally great was Housekeeping, no foul odors. Dietary was so very helpful and the food was great. The only reason I didn't give them a five is due to the fact that at times there was a bit of a wait for care. In nursing there were 3 special people, Lino a CNA, Isobel a Nurse, and Brittany, a CNA. Social Service with Sandy who is wonderful. Even Celina the receptionist is top notch. I highly recommend this facility. Let's not forget Moses the ADON. Excellent

My 98 yr old Aunt was there for about 12 weeks until she passed away from heart issues. My Aunt was a very humble, modest old school kind of lady. She was happy about moving into Brookdale. She was a very honest person. Her last 3 - 5 weeks there were simply horrible for her. She unfortunately had several staff members being extremely aggressive with her, both physically and verbally. I brought it up to management on several occasions when it first occurred. My Aunt pleaded with me to not bring it up at all. It would only get worse if I brought it up. Management showed their concern, releasing one gal who apparently had a history of tormenting guest. But there were a couple others that would call my Aunt vile names & go out of their way, NOT to help her ! ? Management didn't seem to put their foot down to make this all stop, because it continued for 2 to 3 more weeks. Oh yes, most of the staff is friendly & the environment is 2nd to none. Unfortunately some of the staff simply treats their residents very unruly and disrespectful. Which made my wonderful Aunts last few weeks on this planet, much more unpleasant and uglier than they should've been. It broke my heart to see a 98 yr old lady afraid to leave her room to go to her meals, on several occasions. That's just wrong in every way ! Think HARD about where you place your loved one…. I'm sharing this because it's very important that people know what's really going on…. I feel this way towards your community because you gave us no choice in the matter ! Brookdale dropped the ball big time ! Management should be ashamed of how they handled all this. They simply allowed it to continue…

Our mother recently completed her rehab at Brookdale Santa Catalina. Our family was pleased with the quality of the food, therapy and care. The therapists and caregivers were patient and kind with our mother. One caregiver in particular, "Sandy" was always so caring and positive with our mother and treated her with concern, dignity and respect. We appreciate her and all the staff for their services.

Brookdale Santa Catalina is a great place for seniors who want to be engaged in the many activities offered. The residents themselves are the best aspect of the place. There seems to be a self-selecting process of people who are highly intelligent, accomplished, sociable, and have lead very interesting lives.

Brookdale Santa Catalina is a beautiful setting with a campus like a small college. The staff are friendly, courteous, and always helpful. The residents are friendly with interesting backgrounds. The food is good with a healthy and varied menu. Each week there are talks, games, and trips. In all a great place to live.

I enjoy living at Brookdale. The campus is beautiful and encourages one to get outside and move around the campus. The residents are very welcoming and we felt that on our first visit to campus. The current activities are fun, educational and healthy, as well as entertaining programs. There are many small group discussion groups. An example is the book club where good choices of current publications and stimulating discussion are lead by residents). I love by apartment and apprecite the beauty of the campus along with the house cleaning weekly and the weekly laundry service. Life has been good to us at Brookdale inspite of slow response to maintenance requests due to limited staff. The same is true with dining room staff and kitchen staff. Hopefully those situations will be addressed soon.

Dining room servers are friendly and some are very accurate. Others don't get your order correct. Food taste okay but not wonderful. Enjoy interacting and playing games with other residents. Nice location. Our apartment is nice, but others have apartments that need upgrading. They have been told that they have to pay for any upgrades. Our rent is on the high side. If it gets much higher, some of us will have to move elsewhere. That is bad because moving is expensive, but so is living here.

Previously, I would have given 4.5 stars, but post-pandemic staff changes have seriously impacted the current level of care. We're hoping as new staff settle in, things will come back to a more positive outlook.

The staff is wonderful. They are caring, patient and competent, and they maintain a clean and pleasant atmosphere. As someone who visits ALF's, care homes, and SNF's for work, this was the place I chose to bring my mother. I highly recommend them for short-term skilled nursing and long-term skilled care as well as for assisted and independent living in the other area of the property.

Beautiful location in Tucson foothills. I went there for 23 days for a broken pelvis and loved the staff food, food, private room with private bath, other clients and the mountain views. I'm going there again next week to recover from a different condition once I leave TMC Hospital. I'd rather go home but when handed lemons make lemonade. I'll think of it like a vacation in paradise.

My experience with Brookdale Skilled Nursing care has been positive thus far. The person I have been communicating with has been excellent . She is a caring, compassionate individual. Hope to have my husband accepted soon to be transferred from the hospital to this outstanding facility. It is difficult to go through this process (understatement) but kindness and interest goes a very long way. Pray the coming days will bring my husband to a degree of independence.

My mom has been living at Brookdale in an Independent Living apartment for 5 years. She has enjoyed the experience from the start, citing welcoming staff, friendly and interesting co-residents (many of whom have become good friends), a beautiful setting and well appointed common areas for dining and socialization. We have both found the current Executive Director, Art Martin, to be a responsive and excellent communicator, specifically around the current CoVid situation. Art has taken the necessary steps to ensure the safety of the residents from the beginning of the pandemic, thus reducing everyones stress and concerns. Thank you Brookdale for your caring and supportive efforts!

I love living here at Brookdale Santa Catalina. Before Covid it was a happening place. It is a perfect size for Independent Living. Enough activities if a resident is interested, but a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy time with friends or even alone.Since the novel Coronavirus started spreading the Corporation and our Director have instituted restrictions to keep us safe. But we are still well cared for, with meals delivered and roving Sweet Treats and Happy Hour.Things are beginning to open up so I hope things will return safely to the fun times with friends here at Brookdale Santa Catalina

For the last five years I have been lucky enough to have my mother live in Brookdale Santa Catalina. When she arrived, she had been living on her own at 88 years old. I did not realize how aging and difficult that had been until we saw her transform before our eyes from living at Brookdale. We looked at a number of facilities and while some were less expensive none offered the value of Brookdale Santa Catalina. Its location tucked into the foothills is magnificent and the facilities are wonderful. As an independent living resident her unit is the perfect size and gives her the option of a kitchen if needed and a patio to enjoy the Arizona climate. The caring staff made sure my mother felt immediately at home and very quickly she was impossible to find at home, she was so busy with her new life. The activities, the food, staff and facilities are wonderful.Of course, the COVID pandemic has changed life at Brookdale Santa Catalina as it has everywhere. Not a day goes by that my family and I do not thank God that our mother is in this facility. The directoArt Martin and staff immediately put into place protective measures to make sure the residents were kept safe. This meant food was delivered instead of going to the dining room. To counter loneliness and to check in on residents the team immediately started to deliver cookies and ice cream or a traveling happy hour to the residentsapartments. Additionally, the director started an email to all interested residents and their children about what was happening in the complex. I cant tell you how reassuring in these crazy times it has been to be kept in the loop about what was happening with my dearest treasure, my 93-year-old mother. My husband and I keep discussing at what age we will be moving to Brookdale Santa Catalina.

Brookdale Santa Catalina, nestled against the foothills with amazing views and wildlife truly is the Jewel of Tucson Senior Living. The community is large and lovely, with something for everyone. Santa Catalina is one of the rare places that you can age in place in Tucson, all the way from several large independent living apartments to an onsite skilled nursing, assisted living and memory care. The beauty of this model is that no matter what happens to your loved one they get to stay in the community they love surrounded by the friends they have made through their Brookdale journey. As we get older moving becomes more stressful with more difficult and longer recovery times. Because Santa Catalina has an apartment for every need, and a private caregiver agency on site as well for those residents not ready to give up their independence but who could use a little extra help. Add to that the best food I have experienced in a congregate setting and a robust activities schedule (safe and socially distant during COVID of course) and Brookdale Santa Catalina offers it all. The staff are friendly and many have been there a very long time, several employees with 20+ years under their belt. When you factor in that Brookdale Santa Catalina has had one of the best COVID outcomes in the state of Arizona, I dont know why you would take your loved one anywhere else.

We are very impressed with so much about Brookdale Santa Catalina. My husbands mother is there, living independently. We have visited and heard often from Mom how things are going, particularly in these times of COVID concern. An impressive aspect, is that we (along with Mom, of course) also receive regular updates from the Executive Director about every facet of decision making and policies and practices during this stressful time. The staff has been incredibly supportive and helpful with tasks that would usually be the familys responsibility; they go out of their way to help the residents navigate life under atypical circumstances. Art, the director, manages the facility with safety and health a paramount concern, but he is well aware that residents need encouragement (ice cream! happy hour! the ability to socialize safely as soon as it is right to do so! a robust program in normal times!) and very clear communication. He goes so far beyond expectations. And, the staff follows suit, really making a point to know the residents and encourage them personally. The grounds are very, very pretty and unique.Eating there was fun and involved some super creative choices....the best part for me, was that the tableware was beautiful, not institutional. Thanks to everybody involved for making Santa Catalina such a positive experience.

One of the best decisions my parents made was to move to Brookdale Santa Catalina. The staff are kind and helpful The activities have been varied and stimulating. And, the living spaces are spacious and well maintained. As an out-of-town daughter, I feel welcomed and invited to participate.....my parents friends are now my own.

Grounds are very well kept. Planned activities and visiting music groups are great. We have had a great deal of difficulty with scheduled staff not showing up to take my father to his appointments. I am hoping this will improve. The setting of the facility is quiet and beautiful, birds and wildlife all around. However for the very high amount of money we pay, the services they provide should be worry free.

My mother has been a resident of Brookdale Santa Catalina for about three years now. She lives in the independent side, and has made wonderful friends. My review, however, is focused on La Rosa, which is the compound that houses Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, and Memory Care.My mother had heart surgery this year (shes 98, Bless her heart), and spent about five weeks in the La Rosa Skilled Nursing area. In addition, she spent about a month in Skilled Nursing earlier in the year, so we think we are well qualified to comment. The Skilled Nursing area of La Rosa is filled with a fine and dedicated staff. They have a nurse on site all the time, and a doctor is on call. They have regular caregivers who show compassion and kindness at every turn of the road. I cannot speak highly enough about the physical therapy staff. These people made sure my mother got exercise and also short outings outside because my mother likes being outdoors. They went above and beyond the call of duty. The decor is pleasant and the food is good (VERY important, of course). The rooms are large. Each patient has a private room, but shares a bathroom.I also dealt regularly with the staff because I live nearby. I was impressed with the competence--and the kindness--of everyone I met. They even had a meeting about two weeks before my mother was released. All the caregivers, PT people, and a nurse was present at that meeting. They wanted to be sure that mother could make an easy transition back to independent living when the time came. That was enormously helpful, both to my mother and to me. We knew what to expect, and it gave me time to get the things mom would need.As with any area of life, the people make all the difference. These people are good and kind and caring. We love La Rosa (Skilled Nursing) and recommend it highly.
