Edgewater is a very friendly, comfortable community in which to live. There are many activities available here and if you don’t find a program you want to join, you can start a new one. You can also live independently and participate in only those things you are able or want to do. With all stages of care, we find it the best place to be at this stage of our lives.

My mother-in-law and I visited s she’s looking at various options for a senior living community. We couldn’t have been treated better. Renee was attentive and thorough. She patiently listened and answered all our questions in a very understandable and transparent way. The facility is first class. There are most all services that one needs in house. The food was restaurant quality and the staff were courteous and accommodating. The residents were welcoming, friendly and seemed genuinely interested in us. We couldn’t have had a better experience. Truly a 5 star experience!!!

My 95 year old mother was treated with kindness and compassion at Edgewater during her 2 1/2 week stay. The facility is beautiful, the staff is wonderful, the therapy extremely beneficial and the meals are delicious! (She didn’t want to leave!’•)

My husband arrived at Edgewater skilled nursing on a Saturday after being transferred from Mercy Hospital. He was to be given extra attention and care to help rehabilitate him. There is no physician on duty there on weekends. I witness no activity in the gym area over the weekend. When my husband woke on Sunday he said he could not feel or move his body. His right side was very swollen and could not raise his arm or hand. They basically gave him pain meds and put him to bed. When the physician arrived on Monday she phoned me to say she thought Ken was having a stroke. He was then sent back to hospital in which it was determined he was having a stroke. I am sad and upset that none of the weekend staff reacted to his medical needs. I wonder if there would have been a better outcome.

Renee explained the levels of Edgewater community, gave us an extensive tour and spent so much time answering our questions. Wesley is so lucky to have her because she is an articulate and comfortable person to learn about living in WesleyLife from. Anyone interested in the community will leave understanding how much is available at EDGEWATER. One walks away understanding how the Wesley life will enhance one’s life.

I have been here 2 years. It was a difficult transition as I needed to move my husband into memory care and myself into independent living. After 2 weeks in memory care, my husband needed to move into long term care. After we got everything worked out, I am extremely happy with the care he has received and he has flourished to this day. The people at Edgewater are very supportive, and I enjoy that we have many active events and activities available often. It is a very friendly and caring place to live.

The building and surroundings are beautiful. Edgewater had a catered event that their own staff catered and the food, presentation & staff were phenomenal.

Edgewater hosted the dsm magazine new issue unveiling party and they did a fantastic job. The space is absolutely beautiful and the team made everyone feel very welcome. The food was great (the dumplings were a favorite!) and there was a really nice wine selection. The live piano music created such a lovely atmosphere for the event.

My experience with Edgewater has been nothing been positive! Their marketing campaign revolves around the JOYS of aging and their staff believes this and radiates this joy! dsm magazine has held several of our dsm unveiling events at Edgewater with members of the community and their residents invited and they have been wonderful experiences. The staff is so welcoming, the food is amazing (makes me want to be a resident there...I have some years yet before I hit 55!), and the atmosphere truly radiates JOY in their communities!

We recently toured the independent-living options at Edgewater in WDM and came away very impressed. The apartment rooms are spacious, well-maintained and customization is encouraged. The numerous dining options provide restaurant-quality, fresh-made meals suitable for any palate. This place resembles a country club - well-appointed spaces for small, medium or large gatherings, Indoor pool, professional gym, exercise room with qualified staff, walking paths, garden areas, opportunities for social interaction or not and a pub to relax in during happy hour.

I toured this facility with Renee since it's one I'm considering. She was friendly and helpful and even provided me with their financial statements. The place is beautiful and I could definitely picture myself living there. One drawback is that the buy-in is significantly more than the other facility I'm considering. Monthly cost is less and it's probably a wash (they do draw down the investment income on the buy-ins, which makes up for the lower monthly cost). Hard to choose!

We have lived here for 14 months and moving here is the best decision we have ever made. We have an independent living apartment. I had knee surgery and a few days later fell and required a week's hospitalization, followed by 3 weeks in Edgewater's skilled nursing rehab, followed by several weeks of physical therapy. The staff here is wonderful! They are quick to respond to requests for maintenance. The food may not be 5-star gourmet but it is very good, with vegan options available. Both restaurants have a wide selection at reasonable prices, and if it is not prepared according to your satisfaction, it may be returned. There are numerous activities and classes and movies and entertainment at no charge, including first run movies in the theater. There is a medical doctor from Iowa Clinic available from 8 to noon every Tuesday and we use him as our family doctor. We have made many friends here. There are various church services, including Catholic with communion. We have visited and toured memory care and assisted living, and I cannot say enough about the care given by staff. Hospice is available at any level of care. Vaccinations are given on site. There is a parking garage in the basement that is heated in addition to ample storage room close to your apartment. This is a long review, and I could still go on and on. If you are interested, just call for a tour and you will find what I say is true. Sheri Jose

The ONLY reason for 2 stars is food and asthetics. Waits for call lights to be answered in the 2+ weeks my family member was there often exceeded 2 hours. This means left on the toilet for 2 hours, waiting for pain meds for 2 hours, being told the nurse was too busy to provide PRN pain meds until she came to provide regularly scheduled meds, left up in chair past midnight because they were not ready for bed at 8 when they came to put her to bed. Nurses aides SLEEPING on couches during the night shift as well as just flat out rude nursing staff. During care conference I was tild staff to paatient ratio was at minimum 1:5. If so, it makes it even more sad that call lights cannot be answered timely. Being put on the toilet and being told they have to go finish a shower, meaning another resident was left alone in the shower. These are not things a facility with that care ratio have to do. I worked in and around long term care for 20+ years. In facilities that may not look as fancy, but give 100 times better CARE than this one. My dad always said, you can polish anything until it shines....it doesnt make it any better than the unpolished one. Edgewater is the epitome of a facility hiding behind a fancy appearance providing at best mediocre and at worst very poor care. I would NEVER recommend to anyone I care about. Just because it shines like a diamond, the care is coal.

Edgewater is amazing! I have a relative who lives there. The staff are great, especially Samira in the kitchen. She encourages my grandma to eat better, makes sure she has everything she needs and always has a smile on her face and a minute to chat with her. It makes my grandma's day to see her. Definitely recommend Edgewater.

A few months ago I scheduled a tour a tour with Connie of the Edgewater Facilities. I was most impressed with the accommodations, facilities and services. I contemplated to sign up and get on the list. The only reason I did not is because my friends are all in Ames and I instead signed up for a local Independent Living Community with similar facilities, services and amenities. Otherwise I wouldn’t have hesitated at all to sign up. Overall, I was most impressed what Edgewater has to offer.

Like a number of others, I moved here 11 years ago, with the idea that this would be the last major move I made. Edgewater's not perfect, but I didn't expect it to be. The facilities are good and generally well-maintained. For the most part the staff is very accommodating, knowledgeable and willing to help. I've had good responses when there have been problems; maybe not quite the response I wanted, but a pretty good one, and I've never felt that I was ignored, put off or discounted in any way. I have a very good life here, and get good care from both my friends and the staff when I need it. It's a good place to live, especially when you're never sure exactly what level of care you'll need. All in all, I felt 11 years ago that this was the best decision I ever made, and I still feel that way.

I have lived at Edgewater in Independent Living for nine years. It definitely feels like home and residents and staff are my family. There is a wonderful Wellness Center with staff who work on keeping me and other residents healthy. The restaurants produce yummy food and they kept us fed well during COVID. The activities staff work hard to provide variety enough to meet everyone’s interest, Apartments are kept in good condition and maintained well. Staff are always kind and make things right even when things don’t turn out the way they should.

My mother has lived at Edgewater since it opened and has been exceedingly happy with people and the facilities.
June 2021
I have lived at Edgewater for almost 12 years and still consider it one of the best decisions I have ever made. The facilities are lovely, I love my apartment, we are offered a variety of activities, the staff is very caring and we enjoy restaurant dining. We were thoughtfully cared for during the pandemic and are currently enjoying opening up again.
June 2021
Edgewater is a way to provide us a planned life-long array of educational, cultural, spiritual and physical experiences. A priority of the residents is to maintain a balanced and happy life. We have been residents of Edgewater 9 years and we appreciate that the residents at Edgewater come from many different career, life and educational experiences. We have found that all resident's life stories are very interesting and fun to learn. If you choose to become engaged in learning the different stories about each resident, you can make many new friends. A unique asset for all involved. We preferred to select a community like Edgewater that offers independent living, assisted living, memory care and long term care. These services being available as our needs could change. Is Edgewater perfect? NO. Is life perfect? NO. We have found that the Edgewater residents and the team members can work together to identify reasonable solutions to challenges if or when they occur. - The Walters

We have lived at Edgewater for almost 5 years and are very happy with the decision. Beautiful facilities, great staff, excellent food (sometimes even better). The management during the pandemic was particularly outstanding.

We have lived at Edgewater for 4 years and are very happy with our decision to move here. The other residents are friendly, interesting people, the staff is great, and the food is fantastic. I particularly appreciate the wellness staff and the exercise program.

Moving to Edgewater was one of the best decisions we ever made! Staff are constantly working on, refining, or instituting new ways to better care for us. And there is so much for us to do! Food and Beverage makes a concerted effort to provide us with tasty, healthy food. Exercise classes are excellent. We feel we are part of a community.

We are in our 9th year of residence at Edgewater and constantly remind each other of what a fortunate decision it was to move here. Through the past months of pandemic security we were deeply impressed with the concerns expressed by management and staff for our continued safety and happiness through this trying time. Edgewater has been a safe and secure place to live throughout our tenure here. We continue to have excellent meals, well-served and healthy. We take advantage of the many opportunities to maintain physical good health through the Wellness group, with classes ranked to ability, exercise equipment and individual guidance. We appreciate the many opportunities for entertainment, education and participation in a host of activities where we can enjoy the company of good friends here at Edgewater.

We have been independent residents at Edgewater for three years. Shortly after we moved in, I experienced a back injury that required surgery. Following my hospital dismissal, I was in the skilled care unit at Edgewater for three weeks. During this time, I received physical and occupational therapy and experienced the care of the professional staff. My wife could easily visit me as the health center is a connected part of the Edgewater campus. The pandemic was made more tolerable by the wonderful attention of the staff that made us feel safe and secure. We received our Covid-19 vaccines in January 2021. We wear shirts that say, Heroes live and work here. Our lives are normalizing as we resume communal activities and the many diverse options for resident engagement. The library, fitness center, saltwater pool, woodworking shop, rec room and club room augment choices for residents. Continuity of care was an important consideration when we moved to senior living and Edgewater has us covered. We feel fortunate to live the Edgewater experience.
