After visiting several other continuous care retirement communities in New England, my husband I decided that StoneRidge was the best fit for us based on its location, facilities, types of dwellings, activities, friendly and attentive staff, dining options, and reputation. A key contributor to our decision was how engaged residents were with each other in the dining hall. After joining the waiting list, we decided to relocate to the area for a while to get better acquainted with the StoneRIdge community and surrounding area. Our earlier positive impressions were all strongly reinforced. We felt welcome in the superbly run fitness classes in which we regularly participated; the meals we ate there were delicious and nutritious; the programs we attended, especially on the arts, were stimulating; the grounds and buildings were well taken care of; the staff were always responsive to our questions and needs; and the residents we met continue to live active lives. Plus, the surrounding communities have much to offer, including the proximity to Amtrak. We know we've made the right choice and look forward to becoming permanent residents.

Having lived here for almost four years, I can say it is truly more than we expected. My wife was in the memory care cottage for a year and half prior to her passing. The care and support the staff provided her and our family was outstanding. I am actively involved in several committees and find the other residents and our facility’s staff are all outstanding people to be with. From our executive director to the dinning staff to housekeeping staff, all are exceptional individuals who care about our welfare and enjoyment of living here. It is a significant lifestyle change and the staff and residents make it a welcoming place to be.

Stoneridge was the first community I visited”and the last”after seeing five others in between. My beach community of nearly 30 years fit me less and less after my partner passed. The getting to know you period at Stoneridge let me rub shoulders with my possible future neighbors. They spoke to me. They smiled. We actually talked. I felt seen. After I was officially on the waitlist, one resident even wrote me a text, Let me know your arrival date so we can plan you a party. I’ve now been a resident for a year, and my favorite activities are chorus, pool volleyball, and bocce. One day, bocce ran so late that I didn’t have time to change into my swimsuit for pool volleyball. So I just jumped into the pool fully clothed. We all had a good laugh. There’s so much love and warmth here. I couldn’t be happier.

What an incredible place StoneRidge is. My mother, a widow, unable to safely live in her own home moved into SR in 2023. My husband and I knew of SR and hoped it would be the solution for her future final years. My initial Q and A call with Jason Herald was warm, welcoming, and thorough. He did not rush me, and as was the case with our visits there, (before we toured with my mother) he answered every additional Q and gave us patient tours. The apartment she selected was painted to her liking, she chose her flooring and upon move in day was thrilled with her new place. She loved the food and especially the soups, she socialized and made friendships. Her maid was attentive and I found all of SR to be very clean. There were so many options offered from lectures, concerts etc. Her two stays at Avalon Health Center on campus with a caring and attentive medical staff put my mind at ease. My mother lived 3 very happy and positive years at SR. She passed recently after a long life, at 89 in the hospital. As a daughter who visited my mother 2x a week for her three years there, I could never find a complaint, nor could my mother. StoneRidge deserves 10 stars. Thank you StoneRidge staff for providing a safe, kind, beautiful and special environment for my dear mother's final years.

Everybody working at StoneRidge is caring, helpful and cheerful. There are so many activities, both crafts as well as lectures and committees to cover all aspects of Life there, that you could never be bored, but could always retreat to your apartment when you want some alone time! The public rooms as well as the apartments are gracious and comfortably sized. The fact that everything is taken care of for you except what you want to do, allows you to enjoy yourself and have some easy-going years at this stage in your life. And the additional stages of care and assistance give assurance that you will be taken care of at future ages and stages. All that is very comforting and reassuring.

So you ask why 5 Stars?’ - Well, my wife and I have looked at a number of somewhat similar type communities’ and have selected StoneRidge mainly because of the residents and staff that we have become associated with and secondly because of the location - for here you have Mystic Seaport and Village and access to the Long Island Sound - in this way when our kids come to visit their kids (our grandchildren) have lots to do - so it becomes an enjoyable visit for all. Also, since we are in queue waiting for an opening we have visited StoneRidge a number of times for a variety of activities and have enjoyed a variety of delicious food and desserts. We are looking forward to becoming permanent residents.

For me, the first among the top five reasons I gave StoneRidge a five-star rating is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, from the Executive Director and top administrative staff right on down to the janitorial and maintenance staff - always smiling, always ready to help - and this is reflected in the good cheer of the residents too. Second is the quality and variety of the food, which surpasses most fine dining I've experienced anywhere. Third is the physical environment - the well-maintained buildings and grounds, the maintenance staff who promptly answer calls for assistance, and the weekly housekeeping and heavy laundry services (I'll never have to change my sheets again!). A very important fourth is the many opportunities for social activities, sports, community-building, lectures, and interesting things to do. Life is never boring here! And last, but certainly not least, is the sense of safety I feel, knowing I can rest easy, with security and nursing staff just a press of the button away, 24 hours a day, every day of the week. I feel very cared-for, surrounded by a safety net of services and friendly helpers designed to make my golden years truly comfortable. I feel that moving to StoneRidge was one of the best life decisions I have ever made.

I've now lived here for 6 1/2 years, it's my home and I feel so fortunate to be here. An expansion will begin quite soon, and since I currently serve as Chair of the Residents Council, I'm very involved. As I've said in public remarks, I like to compare StoneRidge to a sailing ship headed out on an extensive journey. Of course the weather won't be ideal for the entire trip, but we'll adjust our sails and arrive in port shipshape. I' m convinced that the changes this expansion will bring will make StoneRidge an even more outstanding place to call home. This is an update to my experience here at StoneRidge, as of November 26, 2023. My husband remained in Avalon for 2 1/2 years, where he was so well cared for by the staff. I saw him daily, our family made multiple visits as their schedules allowed until he passed away in September of 2022. I miss him every day, but at the same time I continue to believe that moving to StoneRidge almost 4 years ago was such a wise decision ... I would not change a thing. My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in December of 2018, and once we realized we were going to need help we decided to move to a continuing care community. This was not an easy decision because we had lived in our lake home near Charlotte, NC for 25 years and were quite happy there. We made the commitment to move here, sight unseen. Our daughter lives in nearby New London and after visiting and researching StoneRidge she gave it her unqualified endorsement. Additionally, we received extraordinary help from Shelly in the marketing department - I can’t say enough good things about working with her. We moved here the middle of December 2019, enjoyed the holidays, had a couple of months to begin to get comfortable with other residents, with the staff, with the multiple facilities and offerings, and then Covid arrived. Since that time we’ve been in some sort of restricted status. Thank goodness StoneRidge was proactive rather than reactive and has been Covid free. We have felt safe and well cared for during these almost five months. To add to our challenges, in early July my husband suffered a fall and resulting serious injuries, had to be hospitalized for five days, and was then transferred to the Avalon Health Care Center, which is a part of StoneRidge. Of course we had hoped we would never have to use that facility, but the availability of Avalon was one of the reasons we chose StoneRidge. Just in case. I cannot say enough good things about being here, in spite of all the difficulties we have faced. The staff is extraordinary, the facilities are extensive, the programs offered are enticing, and the residents are friendly, warm, and welcoming. I think our Australian shepherd Zelda likes it here as much as we do, her favorite activity is chasing the frisbee in the dog park.

My husband and I moved to StoneRidge nearly 6 years ago while we were still in good health and physically active. Once settled, we involved ourselves in a variety of activities that engaged our mind and body such as bridge, lectures and small group discussions. We met many interesting and fun residents who are now like family. The camaraderie here is so amazing. Who would have thought we still had so much living to do! Best of all are the healthy and delicious meals that we enjoy with friends every evening. Looking back, we now know that moving to StoneRidge was one of the best decisions we made after retirement. My wife and I have started our 8th year of living at Stoneridge. We continue to love this community. Recently our fantastic chef Robert Tripp, and our dining room staff hosted a 6-course wine tasting meal for all of my cousins. We started with a cocktail hour with wonderful hot and cold appetizers. We started dinner and each course was a work of art. Stoneridge even provide bus transportation for my 14 family members to the local Hilton. How wonderful to live in a community that can provide such a magical evening.

We moved to StoneRidge three years ago. One of the biggest surprises for me at StoneRidge has been access to art. I had done various creative crafts over many years, however; I had never held a paint brush or drawing pencil. In the last three years, there have been numerous opportunities to learn watercolor and acrylic painting, and drawing. The lessons included art history, various artists’ styles and techniques, figure drawing, color theory, collage. These classes opened up a whole new creative outlet for me and it was so rewarding to have one of my paintings on display in the Residents Art Show.

StoneRidge is alive again, post Covid. We have begun to resume all of the wonderful activities we previously enjoyed. I recently had the pleasure of attending a lecture with a real live presenter! John Tschirch from Bristol RI. was the lecturer. He is a well recognized author/speaker, Newport Historical Society’s architectural historian. I listened to a Zoom series this past winter at which time he spoke about the architecture and history of the orangeries of the past. His recent live lecture here was about the architecture and history of some of the cottages’ of Newport. I recommend his work. Sally Phillips

My wife and I reside happily at StoneRidge, and have been here for 6 years. Management is supported by a team of caring employees, and is responsive to sensible suggestions. Communications are excellent. The Executive Director holds Update meetings with all residents every month, in addition to regular Coffee and Conversation sessions with smaller groups. There is a first-class program of entertainment and activities. Participation is entirely up to the individual resident. We feel that our quality of life and life expectancy have been greatly enhanced by the decision to move from our Rhode Island home to this more relaxed lifestyle. Noel Ashworth.

My Father moved into Stoneridge almost a year ago, after losing my Mother. The entire process was 100% positive and seamless. Jason, and team, assisted with all aspects of the transition which took all the stress out of it. My Father is so happy, and taking part in most of the activities offered, which are many. The food is wonderful, as is the staff - always willing to help get things done or assist with anything asked of them. The vibe is one of an active and social crowd. I moved here from Colorado, knowing very few people, as my daughter lives in Ledyard. I’d looked at similar communities but something kept drawing me back to StoneRidge. Why? It seemed so vibrant, with an ever changing menu of activities and outings designed to keep one’s mind and body active. The residents and staff were welcoming and friendly. (Plus the food is excellent and plentiful!) Most important, it is the best gift I could have given my children. They don’t have to worry about mom being alone in that big old house. I am well cared for, well nourished, and have made wonderful new friends. One never knows what lies ahead. While not an easy decision, it has proven one of the best I have ever made.

Hard to believe there’s not one negative comment about this place. Do they actually post everybody’s reviews? I work for a lady that lives there and the employees are wonderful and very nice but they don’t clean well the food is marginal at best. The cleaning service aspect is below average. Rug in 1 room apt was comprised because of an injury. Tried to clean the blood off was never completely cleaned to this day the rug is still stained and not professionally cleaned or replaced. Gross!!!

There are great activities and clubs for the residents to do. And the staff are very comitted and helpful to the residents and visitors. My 88 year old mother, a lively and spirited individual, moved to the StoneRidge Senior Living Community in Mystic, Connecticut four years ago. Though she was reluctant to give up her large home, she knew that it was sensible to downsize and to move closer to where her children live. The process of choosing StoneRidge reminded me (her daughter) of my own time of looking at colleges, in trying to find the right fit. My mom and I both agree that we found that StoneRidge has the desirable balance of offering independent living with the availability of great amenities, all within the delightful town of Mystic. It is also helpful to know that there is supportive care available if needed down the road. Having ownership of her apartment has allowed my mom to customize it to her liking. The meal plan choices and dining room options offer a nice variety of gourmet and comfort foods. Social activities and holiday celebrations from in-house musical and cultural programs, lectures, and excursions into the community, as well as exercise classes, craft classes, movies, a book club, game nights, gardening, and dozens of other happenings provide a wealth of stimulating pursuits. The good-sized beautiful pool with natural sunlight streaming in, the raised outdoor community garden plots, the choir program, and the well-stocked library were particular draws for my mom. The StoneRidge community residents are made up of an intriguing group of people including artists, musicians, veterans, and other accomplished professionals. Several folks who are past the age of 100 are shining inspirations of living fully and actively into their senior years. The staff, from the administrators, receptionists, activity coordinators, chefs, waitstaff, and maintenance workers convey friendly respect, and they honor residents by recognizing, celebrating, and showcasing individual’s contributions, past and present, throughout the year. As a daughter, I am incredibly grateful for the conscientious and agile manner in which the StoneRidge leadership has managed pandemic precautions, including arranging for COVID vaccinations on site, especially given the (still) unknown course of this calamity. The staff members have very effectively protected the health and well-being of my mom and all others who reside there, and by extension, also us, the families of these loved ones. To live at StoneRidge is a lifestyle choice and also a very fortunate privilege. It is reassuring that my mom can maintain her independence in such a bountiful setting.

Imagine my surprise when, after months of my doing research for them, my parents told me they were moving to Stone Ridge, sight unseen. You see, my parents lived in NC and I lived in CT. My dad had recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and we feared he would soon need more help than my mom could provide. Stone Ridge is the perfect fit for them because my mom can live independently and thrive with her newfound friends and interests while my dad receives quality care just steps away as part of the continuuum of care that Stone Ridge and Avalon partner to so excellently provide. Stone Ridge is a vibrant community that is filled with activities and both Avalon and Stone Ridge have staff that deliver and unparalleled level of compassion and service. I am so glad they took a leap of faith and decided to become a part of this wonderful community.

Hooray! We have welcomed Bocce to the Stoneridge family. A game everyone can play, Bocce has been enthusiastically embraced by players and spectators. Friendly competition has been an example of how sport can have a positive impact on well-being. Seniors who were athletes and new comers to the game have expressed joy in testing their skill as well as being part of a team. Lots of fun. Our story begins in 2019 when I became sick with an undiagnosed illness. It lasted for 3 months, during which time Bill was left with planning meals, grocery shopping, cooking, and doing laundry. He hated all of it. While feeling miserable I would get out of bed and try to help. This ordeal made me realize that this situation needed to be taken care of. We started looking at continuing care options. Having watched StoneRidge being built, while we drove to our boat docked in Mystic, I was taken with the wrap-around windows of the corner units and all the light they provided. We never visited another facility that had that attraction. Being familiar with the Mystic location also was a factor. We were very pleased with the marketing department and their presentation of the facility, the finances and the choice of activities. Moving in at the height of COVID in December 2020 delayed some of the experiences offered here but as things loosened up we found residents to be friendly and inviting. Bill was immediately involved in the woodworking shop and community gardens. I, too, am involved in gardening, Bridge, and balance classes. The walking path around the whole campus is a big plus’. Considering that Bill had said he would NEVER leave our home , we are very happy we made the decision to move to StoneRidge while we can enjoy it together. Audrey Raabe

Six Years after first learning of StoneRidge, and following many visits, my husband and I made the decision to move in for it satisfied our two top priorities: #1, either of us would stay on when left the sole spouse and #2, proximity to salt water with attractive communities nearby. StoneRidge met our criteria and after three years together, I am the one to live on, continuing to be happy here. When my husband’s last days were spent in the hospital my decision was to forgo evening dinner out with a family member but instead return home to StoneRidge to rejoin the comforting environment here for a few hours. The warmth and friendliness of the community, the convenience, the camaraderie continue despite the inconveniences of Covid.

For seniors, in particular, the last nine months have been very difficult. I am so impressed the way we at StoneRidge have dealt with this situation. The Executive Director and the entire staff have done a remarkable job in keeping us safe, and have made extraordinary efforts to see that we are given opportunities to relieve the stress providing a variety of "safe" programs to entertain us and keep us well mentally and physically. Their inventiveness is most impressive. The residents, as well, make every effort to see that some of the residents who were alone were invited in small groups to visit with others to talk and enjoy each other. There is a real sense of family that has evolved. What a difference in life here during this time compared to living alone at home with limited social contact and the problems of daily living in these conditions. The relationship between the residents with each other, and the staff is unique. A source of great comfort and peace

StoneRidge We are living through an unprecedented pandemic and we realize how fortunate we are to be living at StoneRidge. The management team, guided by our very en- gaged Executive Director, and the Administrator and all department directors, has managed the staff as they respond to the evolving challenges. Many StoneRidge staff members whose primary jobs were affected by the COVID19 precautions were actively and fully employed in the community. It be- came immediately apparent that the new precautions required many different du- ties, and available staff members set about providing those services as needed. Many team members volunteered to alter their schedules to better protect the com- munity. They have done an outstanding job during this time of heightened precau- tions performing the necessary duties. To quote the Executive Director, I am moved beyond words by the commitment, dedication and compassion of our team members who are true heroes in my eyes. COVID-19 precautions were implemented early, wisely and clearly communicated by the Executive Director. Residents sent Hands of Hope’ note cards with mes- sages of Love, Appreciation and Hope’ to members of our amazing staff for all they were doing so cheerfully and well to support us in our home. Grocery and many other deliveries helped protect residents who chose not to venture to the open stores. Every department has been impacted by COVID-19 precautions either directly or indirectly. This has ranged from an entirely new job to the same role but greatly expanded, as in the case of Community Life Services. They have provided more movies, musical offerings and other virtual programs to keep us entertained and engaged during the precautions that have prevented us from gathering in person. Living at StoneRidge, we feel safe and a remarkable sense of community. Quoting our Executive Director, I take your health and safety as my highest duty and re- sponsibility. Together we will walk through this pandemic safely.

The house in the woods was meant to be our last home. Completely handicap equipped..even an elevator! Then my husband began experiencing some difficulty with agility. He’d always loved working on old cars, but now found that he couldn’t get under a dashboard, or had difficulty getting back up from the floor. So we decided to start looking for a retirement home. We had friends at Stone Ridge so we went to look. We were immediately impressed with the representative who was taking us around. The residents walking in the halls all said Hello and seemed so happy. We were lucky to find a unit that appealed to us & began plans to move in. Within a few months we were in, with the aid of Caring Transitions. A wonderful outfit to work with! We found Stone Ridge to be everything we had hoped for! Met some really nice people & began making friends. The atmosphere is always positive. The residents smiling & greeting each other. Many activities (run by exceptionally talented people) to choose from. Be as busy (or not) as you please. There are many opportunities for committee work. The resident garden is very popular in the summer. Plenty of exercise classes to choose from.or you can be a couch potato! Whatever your choice, you’ll be well taken care of, well fed, and be able to enjoy your elderhood in comfort!

My first 2 months at Stone Ridge have been a positive experience. The first 2 weeks, I was quarantined, but treated like I was "Queen for A Day". I received 2 meals delivered daily to my door along with a daily newspaper. In spite of the necessary pandemic-caused restrictions, I never felt deserted or lonely. Many staff members stopped by (keeping socially distanced at the door) to "check" on me and answer any questions I had. Because I was confined for those 2 weeks, I had time to unpack and arrange (and rearrange) my belongings and furniture. I was able to exercise with Tracey, watching the exercise videos on the closed circuit tv station. As activities have opened up, I have been able to participate and meet some of my new Stone Ridge neighbors. After having visited Stone Ridge periodically during the last few years, trying to decide if I should make the move, I now know I made the right decision. I now call Stone Ridge "home".

From the first, when Lois, from marketing, took Michael and me on a tour of StoneRidge, we sensed this was where we belonged. We sensed we were home. We feel the same after a year and a half living here. There is a natural embrace about StoneRidge: The welcome, the campus, the buildings. We feel comfortable here. And to feel that way at appoint of transition in one's life is to feel relief. The people? The staff is a remarkable group of individuals, interesting, friendly, compassionate, the world of humanity in miniature. And our fellow residents are extraordinary individuals from the worlds of academia, business, medicine, politics, and the arts. StoneRidge, the place, StoneRidge, the people even inspire me to poetry, some of which StoneRidge's Crow's Nest has found worthy of publishing. Soon after moving here, I was encouraged to join the Library Committee, and the Gardens and Grounds Committee. I have since become StoneRidge librarian; and I actively help keep the campus weeded, and planted with trees and flowers. You may visit many active retirement communities or continuing care facilities, read all the reviews and brochures, etc. but until you ACTUALLY move in, you're never really sure you've made the right choice. Two weeks after we had moved from Westchester, NY to StoneRidge we knew we had made a home-run decision. How? First, we had arrived at the time of a community celebration commemorating 15 "Brilliant" years of operation. Our apartment overlooks a beautiful "Green" where a huge festive tent was erected for the gala. We joined the residents and staff for a glorious event - "Founding Pioneers" (residents and staff) were honored, music and dancing were continuous, the food was better than any elegant country club wedding and speeches with personal stories abounded. Residents and staff were proud and happy. The next week we attended a Scholarship Awards Evening organized and hosted by the Resident Scholarship Committee (contributions are received and given anonymously annually). In an overflowing auditorium, about 20 young staff members sat on the dais proudly facing the audience. Each was introduced by the Chair of the Committee, told the audience where they were going to continue their education, in what discipline and with what goal. These were young people who serve the residents daily in the dining rooms and special facilities. They were grateful and proud - as were all the residents in the auditorium. Bottom line? Because of these two events, we quickly discovered the life affirming, UNIQUE CULTURE OF MUTUAL RESPECT AND APPRECIATION between the staff and residents that infuses everything at StoneRidge. We are grateful to be here. Join us!!

In about a week, we will be celebrating five years at StoneRidge Senior Living Community. I started thinking about the decision to come here. We had visited the community several times, had met some residents and staff. Found all to be very friendly and warm. I recently met a new couple here and the first thing they said was how impressed they were with the friendliness of the place. They had looked at several other places and said there was a warmth and feeling welcoming that they did not experience as much as much at the other places they were considering to live. So similar to our experience five years ago. As I thought about living here, it occurred to me that we experienced two freedoms. The freedom from and the freedom to. Freedom from having to have the expense and responsibility in maintaining our home. The cost of expensive replacements which occur at the age of the home. To find competent people to provide the services needed. the worry of the house when we would be away for a month or more. Freedom from worry about what provisions to make if we had health problems. Particularly, if there were disability problems. Having to depend on our children, who while very willing had very busy lives and children of their own. I recently had to have three months of physical therapy following an injury, and had the freedom from the worry of who to go and where.I could probably list a few more. After living here, we realized that we now had the freedom to live independent lives without the worry of even having to change a lightbulb. Freedom to pick up and leave on a trip or vacation without worrying about the house. Freedom to participate in any number of things that we are interested in at StoneRidge or the Mystic community which is so attractive and vibrant. Freedom to keep healthy and fit through the various programs that are offered by ou outstanding Fitness Director. Freedom to attend various programs of entertainment and education without having to travel anywhere, particularly in the evening. In summary, It was very nice to realize how the quality of life can be so good and the realization that we are in a place where we can feel confident we can enjoy life so much with wonderful people - residents and staff.

StoneRidge - People and Place We are in our second year living in the StoneRidge community and we love it! We decided several years ago we wanted to be in a Life Plan community when the older of us reached 80 and while we both were in good health. Between us we have five children living in four states - two out west. We explored communities in those states but ultimately decided on a location and community of our choice. Our first visit to StoneRidge stood in clear contrast to others we visited - because of the residents. There is a palpable warmth and vitality of community here among our residents and staff. It is seen in all the friendly greetings and conversations, and in the broad participation in the extensive activities offered here and in the greater Mystic area. We brought the four-legged member of our family to this pet-friendly community, which is well-managed for the happiness and safety of all. We chose our apartment home on the ground level for easy access to outside. This CT/RI area along the coast is abound in beauty, history, culture, cuisine and recreation for us, and for our friends and family who visit. The services, amenities and activities here at StoneRidge, including the dining venues and delicious meals, make each day a carefree, option-filled opportunity to live life in the fullest.

StoneRidge resident volunteers have had a big impact on Avalonia Land Conservancy, a conservation non-profit in southeastern New London County. Your volunteers helped us with a personal campaign to reach out to neighbors of our properties and to ask lapsed members to "come back to Avalonia." They wrote personal notes, addressed envelopes and sealed over 2,500 letters during a four month period. As a result, our neighbor/ members increased from 41 to 110 and 53 lapsed members rejoined. A truly remarkable and significant contribution to our organization and the community. We so enjoyed the spirit of your volunteers and their willingness to help. Today, we are a team of friends, sharing stories while working together and feeling good about our accomplishments. Avalonia would like to express it's appreciation to Wendi Colvin, the StoneRidge staff and management who provided the support and encouragement. And to those volunteers, you gave us so much and we hope you got something back from us. Job well done! Thanks, we look forward to our continued partnership.
