December 2023
This is an update to my experience here at StoneRidge, as of November 26, 2023. My husband remained in Avalon for 2 1/2 years, where he was so well cared for by the staff. I saw him daily, our family made multiple visits as their schedules allowed until he passed away in September of 2022. I miss him every day, but at the same time I continue to believe that moving to StoneRidge almost 4 years ago was such a wise decision … I would not change a thing. My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in December of 2018, and once we realized we were going to need help we decided to move to a continuing care community. This was not an easy decision because we had lived in our lake home near Charlotte, NC for 25 years and were quite happy there. We made the commitment to move here, sight unseen. Our daughter lives in nearby New London and after visiting and researching StoneRidge she gave it her unqualified endorsement. Additionally, we received extraordinary help from Shelly in the marketing department - I can't say enough good things about working with her. We moved here the middle of December 2019, enjoyed the holidays, had a couple of months to begin to get comfortable with other residents, with the staff, with the multiple facilities and offerings, and then Covid arrived. Since that time we've been in some sort of restricted status. Thank goodness StoneRidge was proactive rather than reactive and has been Covid free. We have felt safe and well cared for during these almost five months. To add to our challenges, in early July my husband suffered a fall and resulting serious injuries, had to be hospitalized for five days, and was then transferred to the Avalon Health Care Center, which is a part of StoneRidge. Of course we had hoped we would never have to use that facility, but the availability of Avalon was one of the reasons we chose StoneRidge. Just in case. I cannot say enough good things about being here, in spite of all the difficulties we have faced. The staff is extraordinary, the facilities are extensive, the programs offered are enticing, and the residents are friendly, warm, and welcoming. I think our Australian shepherd Zelda likes it here as much as we do, her favorite activity is chasing the frisbee in the dog park.

We are new residents as of June, 2023. We love our apartment, the excellent food, the friendly staff and accommodating management. The other residents have been welcoming and friendly.
October 2023
I moved here from Colorado, knowing very few people, as my daughter lives in Ledyard. I'd looked at similar communities but something kept drawing me back to StoneRidge. Why? It seemed so vibrant, with an ever changing menu of activities and outings designed to keep one's mind and body active. The residents and staff were welcoming and friendly. (Plus the food is excellent and plentiful!) Most important, it is the best gift I could have given my children. They don't have to worry about "mom being alone in that big old house." I am well cared for, well nourished, and have made wonderful new friends. One never knows what lies ahead. While not an easy decision, it has proven one of the best I have ever made.

My Father moved into Stoneridge almost a year ago, after losing my Mother. The entire process was 100% positive and seamless. Jason, and team, assisted with all aspects of the transition which took all the stress out of it. My Father is so happy, and taking part in most of the activities offered, which are many. The food is wonderful, as is the staff - always willing to help get things done or assist with anything asked of them. The vibe is one of an active and social crowd. I can't say enough about how much we love Stoneridge!!

StoneRidge is alive again, post Covid. We have begun to resume all of the wonderful activities we previously enjoyed. I recently had the pleasure of attending a lecture with a real live presenter! John Tschirch from Bristol RI. was the lecturer. He is a well recognized author/speaker, Newport Historical Society's architectural historian. I listened to a Zoom series this past winter at which time he spoke about the architecture and history of the orangeries of the past. His recent live lecture here was about the architecture and history of some of the 'cottages' of Newport. I recommend his work. Sally Phillips

I am friends with a couple who lives at Stoneridge. This community is excellent, with many social and educational opportunities. The building is kept clean and the grounds are well maintained. The staff are exceptional. I would recommend Stoneridge to anyone who is looking for a retirement community.

October 2022
Had a wonderful visit to this beautiful and well-maintained retirement community. We were graciously greeted at the front desk and spent several hours with Chante King who provided an excellent tour and explanation of Stone Ridge, its mission and the various programs. We had lunch with a resident couple who were very helpful and enthusiastic about their Stone Ridge life. We have seen several retirement communities, but Stone Ridge stands out alone as the best.

We moved to StoneRidge 2 years ago and have been extremely happy with our decision. There are so many daily activities that we’re constantly busy. We love the many lecture series, Culturally Curious and Great Decisions seminars along with playing card games, Bocce and other group activities. We’d never be doing these if we still lived in our home. We also enjoy the dining service offered at StoneRidge. Not having to cook is a fabulous bonus. But most of all we enjoy the people.Professional folks with varied backgrounds and varied interests makes for interesting spontaneous conversation throughout each day. We highly recommend joining the StoneRidge family.Ann and Mike Pettengill

Worry-Free Independent Living I moved into StoneRidge two years ago, and it has provided me with every convenience that I was looking for. I'm in my 90's and full of life and I wanted to transition to an independent living setting that would relieve me of the worries of security, maintenance, cleaning, cooking, and medical care that I had in my single-family home. StoneRidge is a top-notch residential facility with a full social and wellness calendar. As a resident, you can do as much, or as little, as you like. The wonderful, attentive staff that see to it that I enjoy independent living my own way, at my own pace, make StoneRidge the best choice for me. StoneRidge is a wonderful, worry-free independent living experience.

StoneRidge is a great community with a lot to offer. Exceeds expectations in all ways!

This is a fantastic place where my relatives live. This is a fantastic retirement place that has great staff and people. The layout is fantastic. The buildings are very clean and modern. There are great activities and clubs for the residents to do. And the staff are very comitted and helpful to the residents and visitors. There is a pool, several lawns, and a hiking trail that gsoes from the campus to the town.

My 88 year old mother, a lively and spirited individual, moved to the StoneRidge Senior Living Community in Mystic, Connecticut four years ago. Though she was reluctant to give up her large home, she knew that it was sensible to downsize and to move closer to where her children live. The process of choosing StoneRidge reminded me (her daughter) of my own time of looking at colleges, in trying to find the right fit. My mom and I both agree that we found that StoneRidge has the desirable balance of offering independent living with the availability of great amenities, all within the delightful town of Mystic. It is also helpful to know that there is supportive care available if needed down the road. Having ownership of her apartment has allowed my mom to customize it to her liking. The meal plan choices and dining room options offer a nice variety of gourmet and comfort foods. Social activities and holiday celebrations from in-house musical and cultural programs, lectures, and excursions into the community, as well as exercise classes, craft classes, movies, a book club, game nights, gardening, and dozens of other happenings provide a wealth of stimulating pursuits. The good-sized beautiful pool with natural sunlight streaming in, the raised outdoor community garden plots, the choir program, and the well-stocked library were particular draws for my mom. The StoneRidge community residents are made up of an intriguing group of people including artists, musicians, veterans, and other accomplished professionals. Several folks who are past the age of 100 are shining inspirations of living fully and actively into their senior years. The staff, from the administrators, receptionists, activity coordinators, chefs, waitstaff, and maintenance workers convey friendly respect, and they honor residents by recognizing, celebrating, and showcasing individual's contributions, past and present, throughout the year. As a daughter, I am incredibly grateful for the conscientious and agile manner in which the StoneRidge leadership has managed pandemic precautions, including arranging for COVID vaccinations on site, especially given the (still) unknown course of this calamity. The staff members have very effectively protected the health and well-being of my mom and all others who reside there, and by extension, also us, the families of these loved ones. To live at StoneRidge is a lifestyle choice and also a very fortunate privilege. It is reassuring that my mom can maintain her independence in such a bountiful setting.

Hard to believe there’s not one negative comment about this place. Do they actually post everybody’s reviews? I work for a lady that lives there and the employees are wonderful and very nice but they don’t clean well the food is marginal at best. The cleaning service aspect is below average. Rug in 1 room apt was comprised because of an injury. Tried to clean the blood off was never completely cleaned to this day the rug is still stained and not professionally cleaned or replaced. Gross!!!

Hooray! We have welcomed Bocce to the Stoneridge family. A game everyone can play, Bocce has been enthusiastically embraced by players and spectators. Friendly competition has been an example of how sport can have a positive impact on well-being. Seniors who were athletes and new comers to the game have expressed joy in testing their skill as well as being part of a team. Lots of fun. We are grateful to the Stoneridge Administration for their support in the development of the Bocce court. Carol and Scott Taylor

Imagine my surprise when, after months of my doing research for them, my parents told me they were moving to Stone Ridge, sight unseen. You see, my parents lived in NC and I lived in CT. My dad had recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's and we feared he would soon need more help than my mom could provide. Stone Ridge is the perfect fit for them because my mom can live independently and thrive with her newfound friends and interests while my dad receives quality care just steps away as part of the continuuum of care that Stone Ridge and Avalon partner to so excellently provide. Stone Ridge is a vibrant community that is filled with activities and both Avalon and Stone Ridge have staff that deliver and unparalleled level of compassion and service. I am so glad they took a leap of faith and decided to become a part of this wonderful community.
November 2021
While I have only been a part of StoneRidge for a short time, I am very impressed! StoneRidge is home to many active seniors making the most of their retirement; the community provides a maintenance-free lifestyle and high-caliber services and amemtities. Top notch!

My neighbor sold her home and moved to this community. The food is great and the friendships she had made at StoneRidge are really meaningful.

My wife and I are just completing our second year as residents of StoneRidge. What a wonderful decision we made to move here. The residents and staff are all like family. We know each other by first names. It is a wonderful community. During the last 5 months we have all had to adjust to the pandemic. We feel very safe here and are so glad we are not at our home alone. Due to the tremendous efforts of our staff we have been free of Covid-19 and I believe we will continue to be so. They do everything for us so we dont have to go off the grounds unless we choose to. We highly recommend StoneRidge to everyone.
August 2020
We searched for the perfect community for our older sister who suffered a brain injury during a surgical procedure. Knowing that she would go from semi-independent living to continuing care, we knew that wed have to find a unique environment for her. StoneRidge has been and continues to be the perfect place. The staff is absolutely amazing in how they go above and beyond to put the residents first; the administration is top-notch, not only experts in the field, they are compassionate and kind as well. The physical environment is spotless, well-maintained, and invokes the sense of being in a beautiful residence for a well deserved holiday. And the food is great. Five Stars to Stone Ridge!
May 2020
I have been at StoneRidge for almost 10 yearswehave many interesting programs, good food, exercise Too!
January 2020
StoneRidge provides reassurance that my parents are happy and safe. For Mom (in her mid-70s), StoneRidge is a home where she can take aqua classes in the salt water pool or swim with the grandkids when they visit. She can take the grandkids to the Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport. Mom also loves the parties... Memorial Day, July 4, Halloween, New Years, etc. For my Dad (in his late 80s), StoneRidge is a home where he can participate in the balance classes a weekly tai chi group. He is active in a couple of StoneRidge committees and sings in the StoneRidge Chorus. He enjoys the concerts, parties and dinners at the Grille with my Mom and friends, but he can enjoy a slower pace than my Mom when he chooses. For me, StoneRidge is invaluable. Mom and Dad can age at their own pace…always on the same campus, together.

We absolutely love the people and friendly staff.

You may visit many active retirement communities or continuing care facilities, read all the reviews and brochures, etc. but until you actually move in, youre never really sure youve made the right choice. Two weeks after we had moved from Westchester, New York to StoneRidge in Mystic, Ct. we knew we had made a home-run decision. How? First, we had arrived at the time of a community celebration commemorating 15 Brilliant years of operation.. Our apartment overlooks a beautiful Green where a huge festive tent was erected for the gala. We joined the residents and staff for a glorious event - Founding Pioneers (residents and staff) were honored, music and dancing were continuous, the food was better than any elegant country club wedding and speeches with personal stories abounded. Residents and staff were proud and happy. The next week we attended a Scholarship Awards Evening organized and hosted by the Resident Scholarship Committee (contributions are received and given anonymously annually). In an overflowing auditorium, about 20 young staff members sat on the dais proudly facing the audience. Each was introduced by the Chair of the Committee, told the audience where they were going to continue their education, in what discipline and with what goal. These were young people who serve the residents daily in the dining rooms and special facilities. They were grateful and proud - as were all the residents in the auditorium. Bottom line? Because of these two events, we quickly discovered the life affirming, unique culture of mutual respect and appreciation between the staff and residents that infuses everything at StoneRidge. We are grateful to be here. Join us!

StoneRidge - People and Place We are in our second year living in the StoneRidge community and we love it! We decided several years ago we wanted to be in a Life Plan community when the older of us reached 80 and while we both were in good health. Between us we have five children living in four states - two out west. We explored communities in those states but ultimately decided on a location and community of our choice. Our first visit to StoneRidge stood in clear contrast to others we visited - because of the residents. There is a palpable warmth and vitality of community here among our residents and staff. It is seen in all the friendly greetings and conversations, and in the broad participation in the extensive activities offered here and in the greater Mystic area. We brought the four-legged member of our family to this pet-friendly community, which is well-managed for the happiness and safety of all. We chose our apartment home on the ground level for easy access to outside. This CT, RI area along the coast is abound in beauty, history, culture, cuisine and recreation for us, and for our friends and family who visit. The services, amenities and activities here at StoneRidge, including the dining venues and delicious meals, make each day a carefree, option-filled opportunity to live life in the fullest.

My wife and I relocated to StoneRidge 2 years ago from a very attractive condo in Rhode Island, where there were no comparable Retirement Communities. StoneRidge has proved to be all that its brochures promised, and so much more: - The warm, positive attitude of residents is contagious. We enjoy a wider social circle than expected. - The management and staff are friendly, approachable and competent. Good example starts at the top; we have an excellent Executive Director who holds all-resident meetings every month. - We have greatly benefited from the concierge geriatric care, available in ones own apartment or in a dedicated on-site office. - An alternative to the main Dining Room is the more informal Grille, which is especially popular for its brunch on Sundays, and for outside dining on the Terrace overlooking the spacious green, when weather permits in the summer. - We have attended far more movies, concerts, and exercise classes than anticipated, and have danced more! StoneRidge has just celebrated its 15th anniversary, and is rightly held in the highest regard by residents. COME, JOIN US!

Looking to downsize, simplify? Looking for easy living so you can finally do those retirement things youve dreamed about? Consider the following and look no further than Stoneridge: Located in Mystic, a charming New England village with the Seaport, Aquarium, great restaurants and stores. A perfect setting with woods and hiking trails but you can also walk to grocery stores, a mall, restaurants, movie theater…etc. Residents who are extraordinarily friendly, intelligent and active. Staff that is genuinely caring. Many of the staff were here 12 years ago when I arrived and they are still here. They wouldnt stay if this wasnt a great place. I could rave about the fine dining, the activities, the 5-star nursing facility and concierge MD all under one roof – but one visit is surely worth a thousand words. Look us up, look us over and you too will look no further.

Seven years ago, although my consulting business was very active, I decided it was time (I was in my early 80s but otherwise active in my community) to find a home that would free me of the routine concerns of home ownership and maintenance. My wife and I looked at some options in our immediate area, but found nothing to compare with the quality of life available at StoneRidge, just an hours drive away. It offered a wide variety of apartment choices in an attractive setting. (After a business career that required moving the family to different metropolitan areas 5 times, this turned out to be the easiest move of all.) From the outset, we found a welcoming and helpful attitude shown by the friendly staff, management and residents. We immediately became an active part of our new community. But as you might expect, in the next seven years changes in our needs occurred. My wife became afflicted by cognitive changes and I had several medical events which reduced my mobility. Access to the excellent Avalon health center provided all we needed without being separated and still allowed me to continue my activities as a member of the StoneRidge community. When my wifes condition became terminal, Avalon was there to make her last days comfortable. Living in StoneRidge has made my transition to life as a widower seamless. I have a wide variety of friends with whom to dine and participate in many activities.

My wife and I have lived in StoneRidge for exactly one year. I love it. StoneRidge is the happiest place I have ever lived and I rejoice I found it. Here I have found community, something I didnt know I was searching for, its absence so quiet and unnoticed. Until I fell into it. And I am reveling in it. I could even call it family… but a special type — my family for the rest of my life. Dont misunderstand me, no one here is perfect. Theyre just people, good people. In truth, I like to consider them all as lovely weirdos, each unique. And what I like most about being here at StoneRidge is that they have the space for my weirdo-ness, too. Ah, family. My family. Lucky me.

I have lived in Mystic 25 years and there is no place like StoneRidge. It is a community where people maintain their all important independence and are living securely for life no matter what. Amazing. Hope I can live there some day. #stoneridgemystic.

We have lived at StoneRidge for 4 years coming up the end of April, 2018. We came here because Charlie was ill & needed to have the access to a Healthcare facility. Living here at StoneRidge, with Avalon Healthcare being connected to the Independent Living building, was a BIG plus for us since I could live in an apartment & get to visit with Charlie easily, IF HE NEEDED TO BE THERE, without having to go outside to get to Avalon! It has turned out that he didnt need the health care living BUT he got excellent PT at Avalon which helped him to make a remarkable recovery!!! That & the 3x a week exercise classes that we attend turned out to be his lifesaver. We also knew several people who were living here when we came. It was the best decision that we could have made! We are very comfortable here in our average size 2-bedroom, 2 bath - 4 room apartment - we use the smaller bedroom as our office. We are actively involved on Committees which keeps us busy! There are bus trips to various local restaurants or theatrical events or just a wonderful drive through the countryside. We still have a car which gives us a bit more freedom, as well. Hopefully, we both will be able to stay in our apartment for many more years before possibly needing to be in the various Healthcare units that are available to us - Assisted Living, Avalon Health Care & The Memory Cottage- all of which are totally attached to the apartment living areas.
