Celebrating Mother's Day with my mom and her friends at CityView Retirement Community was truly special last Thursday, May 8th, 2025. Almost every week this past summer, my mother Rosaria was painting a Picasso not quite but she found so much joy in doing something she hasn’t done since she was a young girl. Thank you to Amanda, Nancy, Sheila and all the staff for creating amazing moments for the residents. ‘™ ”” On Friday, April 21 2023, Thomas, Caleb and Julian from the Nepean Raiders U18AA team visited City View Retirement Community with their Eastern Ontario U18 AA trophy. It was a very special presentation. Thomas's grandmother, "Rosaria", a resident, who has attended many games over the years was lucky enough to go watch the final playoff game of his minor hockey career. Rosaria was so appreciative and thrilled when she was able to hoist the trophy as well as share the experience with her friends at the home. Her smile is contagious last Saturday my mom moved into her beautiful suite at City View Retirement Residence. It started with two weeks of respite earlier this summer where she experienced tender care and attention. The sense of relief that us children have now that she will always have friends around her, delicious meals being made for her & the removal of house work brings joy to us and all her family & friends. Special thanks to all the staff for making my mom’s transition very welcoming. A big thank you to Paul, the activities director, and Hylee & Jocelyn from the kitchen who create incredible meal experiences. Lastly, thank you to the great staff including Honey, Nancy, Riya, Souad and Sheila for making my mom feel so comfortable in her new home. ” My mother needed respite care, a short stay at a retirement home and City View Retirement location was our first choice. It’s in the neighbourhood and part of the Nepean- Ottawa community where she lives. Catherine and Carolle worked with my family to transition her from the hospital to respite care and hopefully permanent residency. A big thank you to all the staff including the nursing team (Mary) but also the front office of Ryia and Suad who welcomed my mother and our family during our visits. One of my mother’s favourite things is anticipating what creative meal Chef Steve would create. It’s always a thrill for her and she enjoys every meal. A very big thank you to everyone at City View as well as Paul the Activities Coordinator!

Ignore the 5 star reviews and DO NOT SEND SOMEONE YOU LOVE TO THIS FACILITY...as a resident for 6 months (May 2024 to November 2024) what I experienced and became aware of was atrocious. I am younger than most of the residents and have full cognition, am not bedridden, and have the ability to let staff know exactly what I need. If you have a loved one who requires a lot of care or who is not able to communicate well, their care by most of the staff is not good. The main issue in this home is the general manager ([name removed]) who is as phony as the sky is blue. She lied to my family when on the tour telling them there were 4 PSWs on the assisted living floor excluding memory care. That is simply not true. There are 2 PSW in memory care and 2 for the rest of the building. I also became aware from other residents" family members that they too were lied to by [name removed] when on tour. A few examples of issues I became aware of while staying there are as follows: - a serious and ongoing problem with bedbugs throughout the building and mainly in memory care. This has been an issue for several years and although management has brought in pest control they have not done enough the extinguish the infestation! - there were several incidents where residents had fallen during the night and not checked on by overnight staff and found on the floor in the morning with either head injuries or lying in urine or poop. The staff who were not checking should have been fired for not doing their job and yet they continue to work there. - there were 2 incidents while I was there of 2 different residents escaping from their room at night. After searching the building one was found sitting in the dining room (he had obviously not been checked on by staff). The other gentleman was found in the kitchen fridge by a member of the kitchen staff in the morning. - their food is terrible in my opinion. Some residents enjoy it however the amount of complaining that goes on in the elevator would indicate that most do not. There is so very little variation in meals and the chef loves slathering the food with fake gravy! Most of the food comes from cans, is pre-packaged (boiled eggs) or highly processed. - management continues to hire staff (high turnover rate) who are often not qualified nor have their PSW certificate. Plus the training is inadequate. - early on in my stay a PSW called in sick and [name removed] did nothing to replace her so there was one PSW for the whole building (excluding memory care). I sent her an email which she chose not to reply to until I mentioned I was reporting this incident to the RHRA (Retirement Home Regulatory Authority). Plus I spoke to her and mentioned that she should do her [language removed] job! -I have seen incidents where the nursing staff do not wait for a resident to take there medication and in one case a pill fell to the floor unbeknownst to the resident. - a month and a half before I was to leave i was asked if I could pay 2 weeks before the end of the month plus for the following month. I did not as I had received no invoices plus the requirement is to pay at the end of the month. I can only assume they were cash short! Im not sure what their occupancy rate is but if I were to guess I'd say about 50-60%. To sum up the main problem is management. [name removed] micro manages (she retricts the use of gloves for the staff), she doesn't really care for the residents. Her friendly demeanour is a cover up. She says she'll take care of an issue and doesn't do her job. She hires inexperienced staff, paying not much more than minimum wage, she does not treat her staff with respect nor does she take care of issues they may be having. in short, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE HOME.

There's still a bed bug problem and my understanding it's been going on for a couple of years. The PSWs for the most part are good however they are overworked, especially if one is sick and the management don't call in one to help. Also there are only 2 PSWs excluding memory care, and 3 would be ideal. I've waited upto 30min to get help. The food is mediocre and typically overcooked, although their dessert and muffins are delicious. When one of the two elevators shuts down on the weekend the management choose not to call for repairs making it very inconvenient for residents and staff.

I absolutely concur with all of the positive reviews. My sister's health deteriorated very suddenly and we needed more accessible living arrangements for her immediately. City View had a furnished short stay room available the next day, and she was so grateful for it. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, responsive and helpful. This place has an honest, caring connection with their all of their residents. Highly recommend you visit for a tour.

Edited and rating change down to 3*- Mom was there 12 months 2018-2019. Some issues we had were 1) marketing manager at the time told my sister that they can do Dad who is paralyzed on right side, 2 person lift and incontinent for $2800. I had to clue her in that is cost for only room and board and did not include care. That does not include assisted living (+$1600 in 2018 for 2 hours a day) and Dad is 4 hours a day so another $1600, plus medication administration and showers would take it to at least $6500 which is the $6-7K/month I was expecting for Dad and we would have to buy a mechanical lift. That was a deliberating underestimated quote which happened to other families. 2) I lost / forgotten my phone at meeting with marketing manager. A few weeks later in email with the marketing manager I asked and she found in sofa. She said she did not open the phone but I saw there was a text to an US agency marketing a seminar a few days before asking if they knew who phone belong to. I did not mind they opened my phone but she lied about it. Also she did not have enough initiative to look for numbers I call often and talk for a period like Mom (labelled Mom) and my sister. 3) They had bedbug issue as of June 2018 but did not let residents know about it and to buy bedbug covers for mattress. The bedbugs made its way to Mom's room in September (found by our helper) and we had to replace Mom's bed at a cost of $1000. There were still bedbug issues May 2019 when Mom moved out but there was an operation manager hired early 2019 that was dealing with it properly rather than trying to do it on the cheap 4) The GM at the time 2018/2019 was an issue. I caught her on some lies and she had staff spray Raid in Mom's room without notification nor arrangement for an alternate place to stay. 5) One of the owner (developer) took me aside after a meeting about the bedbugs which I made comment about clarity of information saying he would give me his number (but did not). When I escalated an issues to the owners a few months later, the other owner (lawyer) asked me to discuss it with the problematic GM. 6) we had some medication administration issues. Some nurses were great but some were a little lax. 7) They shut some families out for complaining and banned them from City View. 8) A lot of staff turnover in 2nd half of 2018/ 1st half of 2019. 9) Elevator issues for months 10) Mold seen on ceiling of top floor 11) Math errors on tax receipt to the tune of 10K if I remember correctly which I had to get corrected... sigh 12) gaps on 2nd floor flooring which was corrected after google review comment but not addressed for months before that. Pros: Some good staff, some friendly residents, some changes in management in 2019 and I heard the GM was replaced later in 2019 or 2020. With the recent listeria issue and 2 deaths, I would caution potential residents and family to do their own due diligence. Many 5* review I saw were low review reviewers and/or employees / contractors.

My father resides this location and he is well taken care off. They are courteous and use compassionate when dealing with seniors who require assisted living. Their price range is also fair, they don't over charge like other senior homes. Their GM is very understandable and their staff is a top notch staff. Great place! Great food, beautiful building, lots of activities, and a nice courtyard in the back. Lots of rooms have walkout patios on the first floor and lots with balconies up above. Lots of options for rooms with kitchenettes, different care packages, help with medications, laundry service, etc. You can actually choose what services you want, and pay the cost monthly. My congratulations to City View for providing a safe and caring community during a difficult pandemic year! My mother, now 98 years of age, has enjoyed the many amenities of City View for 3 years. It has become home and has allowed my mother to maintain her independence in a secure environment with help when needed. The staff and care workers have gone above and beyond their duties during the pandemic while regular activities are suspended. Hallway exercise classes, bar room service during Happy Hour, manicures, help with Christmas decorations are some examples. City View offers a comfortable lifestyle at a reasonable cost.

If your loved one is looking for a retirement home, search no further; City View could be their next residence. Our mother has been living there for almost three years and she likes it a lot. The staff (management, nurses, PSW) are caring, compassionate and make her feel safe, all on a first name basis. The food is good and her room is always clean. Unfortunately, she fell a short while ago and was hospitalised. After a few weeks, she returned to the residence, but still in excruciating pain. One of City View's physicians suggested the X-rays be redone because there had to be a reason for her pain. The results revealed she had a fractured vertebrae. The recuperation will be slow but her well-being is monitored by the nurses and staff. Meals were brought to her room for the first few days but she now goes to the dining room by herself. Her medical, physical and spiritual needs are met at City View Retirement. It really is "Ottawa's Best Kept Secret".

City view Retirement Community has a vibrant, and warm family atmosphere with a staff who genuinely enjoy being part of this team. Months after our mother suffered a stroke, our family needed to find a retirement home option for her, should she no longer require 24/7 nursing level care. I booked a tour at City view Retirement Community located near our home in the West Ottawa and close to many amenities such as College Square, and Centrepointe Library and Theatre. As we entered the home, one of the owners was playing the grand piano in a lovely, bright sitting area as residents listened to the music. The owner of the home showed us through the dining room where lunch was being served. We were introduced to many employees and greeted with energized and smiling kitchen and dining staff, support workers and most notably, residents who looked content. As lunch was served, I noticed the meals were prepared with care, and the food looked and smelled delicious! Our guide interacted with many residents on a first-name basis asking about family members and engaged in colourful banter. We were shown many rooms which are well-lit, spacious and clean. The recreational facilities are nicely appointed and can accommodate larger groups. I noticed the building was quite new and offers a choice of rooms with one side of the building facing residential properties, and a street view on the other. Both views offer different advantages and I was undecided as to which view our mother would prefer - the greener, more tranquil side, or the hustle and bustle of the street view. The General Manager, Patricia, was patient, professional, and caring. She presented many options to our family depending on the level of care my mother might require. I was impressed with the range of options both with respect to length of stay, type and size of room, as well as the option of a heavier care floor for higher needs residents. If our mother can live in an Ottawa retirement community one day, City view is at the top of our list! Maria and Len Chumak

City View in my opinion is Ottawa’s best privately owned retirement home. A brand new building that offers independent and assisted living with large rooms at a great price. Every time I visit it’s super clean. The residents are happy and they are always doing activities. I even seen the owner playing the piano once. The nursing staff are great and are always around. They must have a great chef because the food is awesome. I’d recommend City View to anyone looking to have a secure and worry free environment for a great price compared to other homes.

The management provides a calm and secure environment for her and the staff alike. Their policy is simply a zero abuse environment which makes for a positive atmosphere in the home. Our grandfather has been at City View for over 2 years. I visit him monthly and usually have a bit to eat when I am there. The food is good and the service in the dining room has never been better. The chef (Mark)comes out and visits with the residents during meals to ensure there are no issues with the food or service. This is a nice touch. Grandpa enjoys the activities, darts and entertainers are his favourites. Satwinder, the director of care and the nursing staff are all-stars. Way to go! We are all very happy with this residence. Worth a visit if you are looking for a good home.

Lots of activities for residents, good food, excellent friendly staff and a nice bar and chapel. Plenty of nursing care available. Rooms are large and bright, very inviting. Excellent value for money.

My mother moved into City View soon after it opened it's doors, and they've taken great care of her. There are many activities for the residents on site. Mom especially enjoys the movie nights and happy hour!

We are very pleased with the care my elderly legally blind cousin is receiving. We love the friendly homey atmosphere. In two months I know the staff by name and they know mine. The PSW’s are kind ,caring and concerned about my cousin’s well being. They do a fabulous job. The Directors in each area are approachable and have assisted both myself and my cousin in this difficult transition from independent to assisted living. Her suite is bright, clean and well maintained . Her bedding is always clean and she is always well dressed, groomed and comfortably positioned. The food is excellent as is her appetite. I visit regularly at all different times since I am her only relative and she is very homesick. The atmosphere in this home never changes. From a friendly hello from Margaret the Marketing director , to the huge smile and let’s chat from Maryann the head nurse. Isabelle the Director of Care always has time for questions and words of reassurance. In short I really feel we were very fortunate to have chosen this home.

We love City View! It is a new building in Ottawa so close to amenities. Yet private and peaceful. Perfect location at Woodroffe and Meadowlands. Plenty of staff on hand to take care of residents, including nurse's and psw's for those with greater needs. We have a family member who has been there since the day it opened in 2016. She ( our aunt) and we are so impressed with the food, activities, shows and events. I recommend City View family to anyone with friends or family wanting a new home.

I visited the residence and looks very new and clean throughout with spacious rooms. Staff here combine professionalism, compassion and care to treat seniors with the utmost respect; all are fully trained and receive ongoing education to improve their understanding and the care they offer. It also provides the regularity of prepared meals, an orderly environment and daily activities. I would also recommend when searching for a place for your loved one to visit City View Retirement and speak with the staff.

If I could give a 10 out of 5 stars, I would. I had to move my mother in to City View due to mobility issues. The stress of looking after my mom while working and having a family was very difficult. I was recommended City View by a friend and it was the best decision I made. Isabel, the head nurse, must have seen the desperation in my face and got the ball rolling. Margaret, the head of Marketing, could not have been anymore helpful. She was able to get my mom in as quick as she could. Eased my mind by taking care of all the paperwork and got her room ready within a week!!. I cannot say enough about the nurses and ALL the staff. They are so friendly.. My mom found it difficult at first because of the drastic change, but slowly she has eased into the daily life and activities and the friendly atmosphere is huge part. The food is fantastic. I eat there in the dining room whenever I visit my mom. The kitchen staff are amazing. The place is only three years old. It has all ameneties, dining room, pub, hair salon, chapel and games room. There is also.an exercise room and quick access to under ground parking. All in all, I could not be happier, my stress had been lifted and my mother is a lot happier than she was living on her own. I can't wait to move in myself, some day.;)

My mom moved to City View last year, the staff are awesome and provide great care to my mom and the other residents are wonderful. City View feels more like "home" than a retirement community which is very important to us as a family. We have great peace of mind knowing that out mom is in such a good place with loving, kind and compassionate people - we couldn't be happier!
