Reviews Byron House
September 2025
My mother was accepted into The Byron House in August 2023, where she lived for [HOW LONG?]. At first, the staff and leadership made a strong impression - professional, warm, and seemingly committed. However, once my mother was settled in, it became clear that the leadership was not forthcoming about their intentions or follow-through. I urge anyone considering this facility to be cautious when they say things like, “We will work with you,” "She will never be asked to leave,” or “We’ll help get her a subsidy.” These statements gave us a false sense of security. In our case, my mother ultimately never qualified for the promised subsidy - something that was entirely foreseeable to the Byron House team, yet they never informed us. Instead, they repeatedly assured us that they could secure the subsidy, only for us to learn the truth when it was far too late. They also never informed us that shared rooms were an option, priced at half the cost of private rooms, which we absolutely would have chosen given her financial circumstances. The Byron House team continued to offer empty reassurances while costs mounted, and once her funds were depleted, we were suddenly given just 30 days to move her out. As for her care: it was adequate, but not what I would consider attentive or proactive. She fell twice, both times on a Sunday morning. The second fall caused a fracture to her sacrum and she was confined to a wheelchair, where she remained during the remainder of her stay at the Byron House. Surprisingly, since transferring to another facility, she is now walking again with a walker. Whether this reflects a lack of effort at The Byron House or an exceptional level of care at her new home (which is much cheaper), I cannot say for sure, but the contrast is striking. I am very disappointed in the leadership at the Byron House as well as Victory Housing overall. I reached out to the CEO, CFO with questions and never received a response from the CEO and finally did receive a response from the CFO when it was much too late. The CFO finally answered my question and stated" I hope this helps". My reply back was "this replay would have been helpful a year sooner". By the time she answered me my mom was depleted of her funds.
