I currently stay here now, and everything they say in description of this place is FALSE! They are not compassionate. Only a handful of them actually do their job. Workers like to disappear, gossip, and sit on their butts all day. If someone was to pass out or die they wouldn't find out til the next day. They don't check on you. Would let go without breakfasts, lunch, and/or dinner. Bottomline, the many of the cna staff either don't know how to be a cna or don't want to do cna. Like, why are you here? Where is state when you need them? This place will kill your love ones with abandonment and neglect, literally. 3 people died in same night and same floor, and all they going to tell you is natural causes or some other lie.

My daughter came here unexpectedly, on Dec 3rd, she is 27 years old with a hypoxic brain injury. I have to give praise where it is deserved; there are quite a few nurses that give her some really good treatment and care, some go above and beyond and that is what I will focus on, the care that these special ladies do for my daughter while she is there. When she arrived she hadn't had a shower or real bath in about 3 weeks from being in ICU and the hospital and within the 2nd day of her arrival she got her first bath, she has had a few since then. Some of the staff work really well with her getting her to start to feed herself, and start walking herself and now using the restroom. I try to get up there as much as possible to do some PT but I can't make it everyday so I am glad they are there for her. Not all places will take someone her age and her Medicaid insurance so this is really a blessing to me. I know alot of the reviews are negative, okay the place is an old building and as long as you have people eating in their rooms, chances are you will have bugs but they do try to keep that down. The furniture is old, but it works, just because something isn't pretty, doesn't mean it isn't functioning. I am just blessed that my daughter wasn't just thrown out on the street or that I had to quit my job to take care of her. To me, this is a blessing. I am trying to find her a place closer to my home, but in the meantime, she is there, she is being cared for, and the other residents are very nice, and it is better than nothing. Updates: Although I am still happy my daughter has a place to be, the more she is here the less and less staff does what they need to do. She will have dr appointments so I pick her up and take her there, no one helps me with her, so trying to get her from a wheel chair in my car while waiting for someone to open the door then trying to get back inside is just tiering and ridiculous. When you have to wait 10 minutes for someone to come to the door and open it for you to enter or even leave the building. She just recently is no longer in a wheelchair so this is better now. But she was supposed to have transportation scheduled and I gave them a week notice, nothing was scheduled. I call to get updates on her care or to have medical records sent and they don't pick up the phone it just rings and rings, then when finally asked to have medical records sent, they aren't. I don't know if it is lack of communication, under staffed or it they just don't care. On a Friday, I picked her up to go home for the weekend. I stripped her bed down because the sheets had a big crusty stain on them, When I returned her on Monday, those sheets were put back on her bed, with the big crusty stain (seriously) you put dirty sheets back on that I took off. This just made me angry, I had to go and get her fresh sheets and put them on myself.

I have read the reviews from 3 years ago. After transferring my brother there this year, I was very disappointed. The facility is dirty and there were bugs in his room. The furniture is worn and disgusting. I did not see any staff whiIe i was there. I would not put a dog in this facility. My brother was taken to the hospital due to a fall. I was not even notified and he was gone for 4 days before I found out where he was. I would not recommend this facility to anyone who cares about there family member.

The owner of the home. Takes very good care of the staff. She bends over backwards to make sure the staff is protective. She supply everything needed doing COVID-19 and more. She made sure when the vaccine was available that every staff, resident and family member had access to get vaccinated at no cost to them.

My brother has been at the Carrie Elligson/Gietner home for 10 years. I am a RN and former nursing home administrator. My brother has had some serious medical issues this summer resulting in a decline in his abilities; mentally and physically. Over the last two months the nursing staff and therapy staff has nursed him back to a near normal state of health! The staff is amazing! Over the last ten years issues have arisen at times, but I have found that both the nurses and Kathy, the Administrator, have always listened to me and addressed the issues. Additionally my brother is young and suffers from severe mental health issues. Through the years he has had times where he has yelled out due to his anxiety. I know this behavior is difficult to deal with. Thankfully Kathy and the nursing staff are dedicated to keeping him there and compassionately have helped him through these difficult moments. Other nursing homes would have easily given me 30 days to move him. I know it is hard to pick a nursing home for your loved one. There is no perfect place, even if you can afford a high end home. Beautiful and wonderful things happen in nursing homes every day. Do not let the negative nursing home image cloud your judgment. Also keep in mind a beautiful place does not equal great care. A marginal looking home does not equal bad care. A highly involved Nursing Home Administrator, Director on Nurses along with a caring staff-nursing, dietary, housekeeping and maintenance is what makes any nursing home a good place to be. I have found all these components exist at the Gietner Home. My brother considers them his family, and we would both be lost without them.
