UPDATE 06/2026. WEL is 'home' for my mother. She has lived here since 2019. Reviews from prior years are below. Right now I wish to highlight the personal training available at WEL. The AES Director Louisa Bannon is wonderful. The classes available continue to support the residents through physical activity and brain challenges. Balance classes and exercises classes are available. AND there are personal training sessions that facilitate one on one support for building balance, strength and endurance. Laura Sonido is a shining star for AES. She is knowledgable and caring. My mother looks forward to every session with Laura. Our highest recommendation to look into AES for those who want to boost their potential through physical activity. UPDATE 08/2021. WEL is an outstanding facility. During the past year and a half, during the 'pandemic', WEL has kept the residents and resident's families up to date with newsletters and emails regarding the status of the facility protocol, the status of the screening protocol and the status of the residents and staff health. Residents have been covid free during this time. Many environmental updates/improvements have been done during this time. The inner garden areas have been improved, spruced up and are so beautiful sit in. The exterior grounds continue to be well manicured. Inside as some of the restrictions have lifted the residents are enjoying dining room service, movies in a theater environment and music by live performer. My mom continues to feel safe and well cared for at WEL. She enjoys personal physical training several times per week and enjoys the many opportunities to spend time with staff and other residents during gatherings for educational exposure, crafts, walks, restaurant and other outings. I don't want to set up WEL as perfect, because perfect doesn't exist. But REALLY DARN GREAT does exist - and Water's Edge Lodge is REALLY DARN GREAT!!! 12/2020. My mom feels safe and well cared for at this facility. She has been a resident for two years. Independent senior living with several levels of assistance available. The facility is in a beautiful location. The common areas of the facility are spacious, clean nicely appointed, very homey. The administrative staff and staff in general are caring and often go the extra mile to tend to small things that make daily life happier for the residents.There are many group activities, suited to diverse interests. And for those looking during the Covid 19 time - the residents' health is the primary concern for the Lodge. There is good communication between the Lodge staff, the residents and the resident's family members. Highly recommend.

Many things to like about Waters Edge. My husband has lived there about a month now, and he's happy with the food, enjoys the people and feels the staff gives him excellent care. I've found everyone to be friendly and helpful. Some really go the extra mile to help make the adjustment to assisted living easier. Janine spent over an hour helping us figure out how to get the 49ers game on the TV- the huge smile on my husband's face when the game appeared was priceless! Thanks to all for your help and support with this big life transition.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Louisa! She leads walks twice-a-week from Waters Edge Lodge. During a walk last week, I took a bad step into a pothole and twisted my ankle. Louisa immediately came to my aid ” calm, patient, and kind. She gave me the time I needed to catch my breath before standing, then went all the way back to the Lodge to get a wheelchair. She helped me to my car, provided an ice pack, and even drove me home to make sure I was safe. Truly incredible! That kind of compassion and dedication is rare. Louisa isn’t just a great walk leader ” she’s a wonderful person and I’m happy to call her my friend.

He takes the time to listen, adjusts each session to meet my needs, and ensures progress without pushing too hard. His positive attitude and sense of humor make therapy something I actually look forward to. Highly recommend!

My mom has been at "The Lodge" for 6 months now and we are very happy with the facility and the care she is receiving. The Lodge has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, in part because it is a family run business. The facility is kept very clean without smelling of antiseptics, the caregivers and other staff are lovely, and management is easy to work with. It's in a great location with views of a lagoon and a little shopping center adjacent. I highly recommend this place!

Waters Edge in Alameda took such wonderful care of my dad during his final days. The staff was kind, compassionate, and always attentive”not just to his needs, but to ours as well. They made a difficult time for my mother a little easier with their professionalism , constant communication and warmth. We’re so grateful for the support and comfort they provided. I contacted Waters Edge Lodge to get some information and assistance with a family member who broke her hip and was recovering from hip replacement surgery. They offered that they have a short term Respite option. This option worked out perfectly for her and they could accommodate her immediately. Once we began to make arrangements with WEL, they worked closely with the hospital to ensure her transition went smoothly. They provided guidance to the hospital staff to ensure a successful transition. They were very responsive and kept in close contact with us as the arrangements were in process. The staff made the onboarding process easy and made sure the room was set up well for her rehab. She is doing very well. The lodge itself is very nice and in a beautiful and convenient location. What was a fairly stressful situation initially turned into a much better experience thanks to the Waters Edge staff. Very pleased with the folks at Waters Edge Lodge! Thank you!

After crashing my motorcycle two months earlier I ended up being recommended to Waters Edge by several people who work in the segment of health care. In a month of residency I was constantly impressed with the genuinely good spirits of all personnel top to bottom. That made a tough time almost enjoyable. I will certainly miss the fresh and delicious food more than anything though.

My dad has lived at the Waters Edge Lodge for the last (approx.) 6 years. It has been a very good experience. They have done an amazing job keeping the residents safe and healthy throughout COVID. Our family experienced WEL through two long-time WEL residents, including my mother, who was a resident from 2012-2019. In addition, my brother, who is a local primary care/family practice physician, has patients who reside there. A few key things stand out about WEL compared with other facilities we've experienced & examined: 1) Location, 2) condition of facilities, 3) committed family business. Re: Location: A+. Easy to get to, easy to find parking, great places to walk just outside, convenient shopping & restaurants within walking distance, etc. For seniors who are still active and their caregivers, it's simply a nice destination. My family & I still take long walks in WEL's neighborhood. Re: Facilities -- It's clean, airy & pleasant, without that "institutional" feel or smell. It's a nice place to visit. Re: Family business -- the Zimmerman family is caring, committed, & accommodative. They've been a pleasure to work with. And we've kept in touch with some of the staff, who are active in the Alameda community. We would absolutely consider WEL again for family members who need the services that WEL offers.

I wanted to thank the staff at Waters Edge Lodge for the great care provided to my older brother. He is experiencing some of the happiest years of his life while residing there. During the challenging last 18 months, the staff, through a conscientious and dedicated effort, has kept the residents safe. We, representing my brother's family, are extremely appreciative of all that is done on behalf of the residents as well as the excellent communication with their families. The level of care for the residents remains very high as evidenced by my older brother's happiness and the joy we hear in his voice and see in his body language.

My Mom was a resident at Waters Edge Assisted Living from December 2013 through December 2019. During that time Mom’s health & functionality declined, requiring more day-to-day care. The staff constantly worked with Mom and our family to make certain Mom’s needs were met medically and emotionally. The nurses and caregivers were kind and Mom thought of them as friends. I always had access to the staff to guide me in caring for Mom. Our family has many happy memories of our years at Waters Edge. We are grateful for the care and kindness.

My 91 year old mother has been a happy resident at Water’s Edge Lodge for 7 years. During that time, she has had some health issues, and has managed to not only survive, but thrive. The fantastic staff and the dear friends she has met there have played an important part in each of her recoveries, and the care that she has received throughout the pandemic has made a scary time much more manageable. The staff and Management made sure that there were enough safe activities to keep residents engaged and active, and they stayed on top of new developments. I don’t know how we would have gotten through it without them. The staff are always available and always willing to help. They are respectful and professional while still conveying warmth and compassion. I feel like they love my mother as much as I do! I am confident in recommending Water’s Edge Lodge to anyone looking for an assisted living community.

After careful consideration of the senior living facilities in the area, my Aunt moved here a couple years ago. She could not be more pleased with her new home. While I was worried that she would miss the comfort of her house, she instead was so happy to have great meals made for her, a movie every night in the special movie room and daily cookies and ice cream (yes, she has a sweet tooth!). I was very happy to have her medications all handled on site, activities/outings always taking place and opportunities for family to spend monthly special events with her and other Water Edge residents. Plus, pre-Covid, sharing meals in the dining room (for a low price) was extra special. I have actually called to have them check why she isn't answering her phone-no problem, they got back to me with an answer while I waited on hold. She has fallen a couple times-they notified me right away, even when completely uninjured. Flu shots? Handled. Needed help with washing hair? Not a problem. The staff is great.(Shoutout to Enrique and "Baby"). Couldn't be happier. Obviously this level of care isn't free. But to know my Aunt is taken care of, and she is content and happy, worth every penny.

My mother has been a resident at the Lodge for over 10 years. She moved there at 84 due to vision loss from macular degeneration. The Lodge is family owned, and the owners and staff are truly like family to us too, in all the best ways. My mother feels secure and safe and loved and well cared for. And I, as the family member who manages her needs and engages with staff regularly, feel the same way. Because she is. They care, they listen, they respond, and they are totally on top of any situation that arises and needs special attention. I highly recommend the Lodge for anyone looking for an assisted living community in the Bay Area.

I needed to find respite care for my husband with only a few weeks notice in September. Everyone at Waters Edge Lodge was wonderful and very helpful from start to finish. Doing anything in the middle of a pandemic is a challenge. They made it easy for me to focus on my work while traveling. I would use them again in a heart beat for his care if/when needed.
