Our family is grateful for the attention my 88 year old dad received at Sunrise of Annapolis in Memory Care. He was well fed, well looked after, and most importantly, happy and engaged. He had his own suite with a private bathroom, but he was rarely in his room. He spent most of his time socializing and participating in activities in the communal spaces. This kind of interaction wasn’t possible at home with a personal caregiver. We highly recommend Sunrise for anyone’s well-being. Seeing him active and included meant everything to us, and we appreciate the compassion and community they provided.

After many years of a very good experience for my mother at Sunrise of Annapolis, the situation has become less than acceptable over the past few months. As my mother’s needs increased, we worked through many new challenges and I remained confident that it was just a matter of time for her new needs to become routine. I have been there quite frequently for months now to help my mother. I find myself cleaning her suite from kitchenette, to bathroom toilet/floor to carpeting to her table for eating. I routinely change soiled pads in her chair that nobody noticed. I have never had this much cleaning to do after just 2-3 days since my last visit. There has been a distinct deterioration in caregiver staffing to address these simple comfort and cleanliness issues impacting my mother’s dignity. I have to stop by before other family or friends visit her just to make sure nothing is unsightly as she worries they will not want to visit her again. The other significant change is that my mother is very often waiting for 45-90 minutes for any response to her call button. She is calling me almost daily in desperation for help as she can no longer get to the bathroom independently. I have never cried before about the many challenges my mother has faced as she has slowly lost her independence but after those calls, I melt into tears and am at a loss on how to help her. Most if not all of the residents are vulnerable adults, like my mother, who have difficulty voicing how much they are suffering from the lack of enough caregiver staffing. I have had discussions/meetings with different administrative staff to express my concern, as recently as this morning. I asked if there was anything I could do to express the dire need for improved staffing at an administrative level that mattered. Appropriately, they assured me they were working on it but it seems to me to be getting worse instead of better. You see, I am a healthcare provider and have been a corporate director for senior living for 30 years. I now provide direct patient care myself in my semi-retirement to help alleviate the severe staffing crises which is pervasive in healthcare. I understand staffing crises and know there are agencies for temporary staffing, staff sharing with other locations and incentives for staff who go above and beyond. The problem here seems to be that there are no effective solutions being used and the staff are struggling to do their best. In my experience, they will leave if nothing changes soon. They do not feel there is any hope or a sense of urgency. I am hoping this review makes it’s way to the level of administration that needs to help Sunrise of Annapolis to get the staffing to care for my and others’ beloved parents. I know how Google Reviews matter. I want to make it clear that the administrative staff at Sunrise of Annapolis have been wonderful to me and my mother. They are trying but this is beyond what they can change.

My experience with Sunrise of Annapolis has been nothing short of amazing. When I visited the community, everyone seemed so friendly. They seemed to get it from my initial contact. What impressed me the most, was Bridget, the Director calling me back the next day to check on my time in the community. I felt like a friend versus a customer. I loved the outside areas and how warm but yet vibrant the community is. There was a group of women outside that asked me if I was moving my mom to the community. I asked why and they said so she would be as happy as they are. This was surprisingly good experience.

One word for Sunrise, family. We looked at 5 facilities in Annapolis and knew about Sunrise in Long Island and decided to tour. Jenny greeted us warmly and understood we were sad having to come to the realization that our father needed more care than he was getting in a home setting. Odaris, at the front desk would often bring my father a cup of coffee with a smile. My father was in the memory unit, an intimate unit specializing in dementia. The staff knew exactly how to communicate with him. My Dad wasn't great with his memory but always knew Ophelia's name since she cared for him the most. Trina, Michele, Hilary, Belinda, Jaylen, Ike, Pam, Wannetta, Robert, Elizabeth, Bridget, Sandy and so many others went above and beyond to assure Dad was comfortable. He was always treated with kindness and respect from the moment they got him up, bathed and dressed, to the end of the day when they assisted him with his bedtime routine and tucked him in bed. He gained 10 pounds because he loved the food! The staff was very approachable and listened to our concerns and requests. We had monthly care meetings to discuss all aspects of his care. The healthcare staff, Dina, Sally, BB, and Katie all were so very attentive to his medical needs. The time my father spent there, warms our heart. They treated us like family and it because home. He became familiar with faces, the routine, and the physical layout. He was encouraged to participate in the various daily activities like exercise, painting, listening to live music, petting the animals, and wine Wednesday, which we enjoyed also. When my dad declined and passed, the love and affection the staff showed him and us will never ever be forgotten. They were all so accommodating and caring. Letting us stay at his bedside, giving us a place to nap, hugs...I can not thank them enough. A memory I will never forget is when my dad asked for a shower, Hilary wheeled him to the shower room and lovingly bathed him, hot water running over him, reminding me when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. That was his last shower. He died 7 days later on his birthday. I miss everyone at Sunrise. We are so blessed to have had this experience. No one wants their loved one in a facility but this was such a positive experience for us we cannot thank them enough. We will always be honored to have had Mr. Bill part of the Sunrise family.

I had my mother in Sunrise and we were warmly welcomed. Everyone was absolutely amazing. However, my mom was unable to walk or do for herself, and to be honest I felt that, as with all facilities, the employees were overworked both taking care of patients and working in the dining area and kitchen or wherever they needed assistance with at the time. The employees always were happy to do so, however, if a loved one needed that much assistance, assisted living is truly not the place for that person. If a loved one was able to do for oneself this facility is WONDERFUL!!

Very friendly staff. My mother has been taken well care of. She is in memory care part of Sunrise of Annapolis. They have her on a schedule everyday. I thank the care giver every time I leave. That is the hardest job to take care of people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. They report everything that happens to my mother to my brother. We are lucky to find this assisted living for our mom.

Sunrise of Annapolis has done an outstanding job of keeping family members involved and informed during the current Covid19 health crisis. It is obvious that this location has great leadership, and team members who place the needs and comfort of residents at the forefront of their work lives. We are all discomforted by the restrictions and inability to freely visit our loved ones, but there is no doubt that the decisions made are to comply with local requirements, and more importantly, to keep everyone safe. It has been a difficult two years but I am confident that Sunrise of Annapolis is motivated by a deeply felt responsibility to safeguard the staff and the residents. Roger Valentine, job well done!

My mother, Fran Gabler, needed constant help which I was not able to do. In the beginning I was hesitant as Mom was not accepting of change, but Sunrise made the transition as easy as it could possibly be. Mom had constant companionship with the other residents as well as the workers. When Mom was having bad moments they knew how to calm her and and made her feel safe. There was always events for her to participate in which kept her mind and body going. Dementia is not easy to deal with but the people at Sunrise treated my Mother like she was a close relative. I was lucky enough to be able to see my Mom at least twice a week before covid and I saw how devoted all of the caretakers were. If you could see how much they do on a daily basis as I could, you would know that this facility is one of the best. I have seen other facilities and they do not compare to this at all. Sunrise is clean and bright and friendly. The nurses help you with everything medically needed and the caretakers will answer any questions or concerns you have. When covid came and we weren’t allowed in, I knew that Mom was in the best care so I didn’t worry and I could call whenever I needed an update on Mom. Mom felt loved and was safe and was happy; what more could I ask for?

Sunrise of Annapolis provides the utmost care to residents. The staff is caring, attentive, and really knows residents' needs. During the Covid 19 pandemic, they have kept families apprised weekly of their status with respect to testing, outcomes, visitations, etc. I am confident of the care given.

My experience in all areas with Sunrise has been AMAZING! Everyone has been so caring and thoughtful and gone out of their way to make my sister and our family as comfortable as possible. It is not an easy time for us but one thing we don’t have to worry about is our sister getting the level of care that she needs.
