Be wary if your loved one cannot speak up for themselves – EXPECT NEGLECT. My mother was admitted to the third floor of Mount Alverna Village for short term rehab. We were told it was the best option nearby, but what we encountered was far from acceptable. From the moment she arrived, there was a noticeable lack of communication and basic care. She was placed in a room with a non-working TV and received no orientation at all -- no explanation of meal times, therapy routines, schedules, etc. When I asked staff if families receive any kind of admission overview, I was told they do not. It was unsettling to have no clue of what to expect. My mom arrived at lunchtime after not eating all morning. Since she didn’t eat fish, they said they would bring her a sandwich. It took over two and a half hours -- and multiple inquiries -- before she finally received it. The TV remained unfixed despite several requests. The overall attitude felt dismissive. I spoke with the manager, [name removed], LPN, as the lack of attention was already concerning. I was told staff had been busy with a resident party. Yet after that party ended, my mother was LEFT IN A WET DIAPER FOR MORE THAN 14 HOURS. She began tracking call light response times: 20 minutes, 30 minutes, sometimes longer. Occasionally someone would stop in only to say they’d return, and then she’d wait again. This is not the level of care anyone should receive. One night, an aide was rude to her after she had an accident. She became so anxious about waiting for help that she started getting up on her own to use the bathroom -- something she was not supposed to do because of her fractured hip. She also repeatedly asked for her ice pack, only to be told it was “misplaced.” It conveniently reappeared the moment I arrived to take her home after just four days. The floor manager, [name removed], LPN is full of excuses. The only blessing was the chaplain, who was genuinely kind and compassionate.

My mom lived here for over 2 years and recently passed away. Mt. Alverna did a very good job at taking care of her and treated her with dignity. My family had a tough time finding a good nursing home but this place treated her very well. Just want to extend my thanks to all of the hardworking aids, like Caitlin that made her time a lot easier.

Let me start by saying I am a tough critic. I have worked in the industry for over 30 years and am currently a corporate director for a nursing home group. My mom has had 3 short term rehab stays at Mt Alverna and we would not go anywhere else. The facility is clean, the staff friendly, the activities abundant, and the therapy exceptional. I read the negative comments and am certain the writer is unfamiliar with the industry. I see it everyday. We are underfunded and understaffed. Mount Alverna generally has plenty of staff, and the longevity is unheard of these days. It is so difficult to get "good help", but Mt Alverna does not seem to struggle with this. Everyone took such good care of my mom. She even mentioned going back to volunteer when she feels up to it! I want to mention the amazing activities department. They kept her busy and involved her in so many wonderful activities and events. There was always something going on. She even had the pleasure of sitting with the Administrator at an event. (Quite impressive that he's been making that drive from Youngstown all these years, that tells you something! ). Thanks again, Mt Alverna staff. We rested easy during her stay, knowing she was in your hands. May God continue to bless each of you as you care for others in their time of need.

My dad lived in the nursing home part of Mount Alverna and I am very happy with the care he received. After Covid sent his dementia into overdrive and the assisted living facility he was living in for three years closed with a five-day notice, I needed to find suitable care for him. Mount Alverna was the perfect choice. It's a few miles from my home so I could be there regularly. The facility is beautiful, and the staff is wonderful. I also have to give a shoutout to Executive Director, Patrick Welsh, for his commitment to taking care of his staff and the residents there. When my dad passed away, everyone was compassionate and supportive. I highly recommend Mount Alverna to anyone looking for a safe, wonderful home for their loved one.

We went to Mount Alverna for a tour of the facility , as we toured the facility we knew that we were at the right place for our mother, the staff was very helpful, respectful and carrying, they answered all of our questions. The facility is very clean and peaceful, in the memory care unit everything was organized and cleaned with beautiful rooms. During the whole tour we felt and noticed the attention, respect and compassion they have for the residents. The process to placed our mother here was easy, the staff made it free of stress and they communicated all the time with us guiding us step by step throughout the whole process. We can say we are very happy to have our mother at Mount Alverna, because her care is much better. I want to thank the entire staff for everything they did and continue doing for our mother and for our family.

My dad spent several months at Mount Alverna this year and just completed his out patient therapy there. Although no place is perfect, especially in this Covid era, Mount Alverna nursed my dad back to his independence. Despite some minor medication issues (pain creams not being given to him when he "needed/wanted" it, etc.) there were very few issues. This faith based nursing home is clean, has a lot of activities (even during Covid) and the food was pretty good. The food seemed to consist of larger meals at lunch and lighter meals at dinner time. My dad put back on the 20 pounds he lost while deteriorating and rehab-ing post surgically elsewhere. We are so happy we chose Mount Alverna for his care. He will never be the same old dad we once used to know, but he was given back his independence so he could return home. He loves and misses his physical therapists. He talks about them often! Thank you Mount Alverna!

My mother was just released a week ago from Mt. Alverna Nursing Facility. I'll start with the bad first. The weekend staff is very nice and you do have some aides that are accommodating, but at times they have to get outside help to help accommodate the patients. They are working with a skeleton crew at times. The good, this place is very clean and has wall to wall carpeting. I can tell that the level of care is a bit higher than your typical nursing facility. The nurses are very nice and even the house keeping crew are very nice and polite. A gentleman on the third floor where my mom was at working in housekeeping made a special stop to my mom's room to say goodbye and the occupational therapist stop by as well and gave my mom a hug and told her goodbye. I could not be there everyday to see mom and I was able to rest fully at night knowing that she was being taking care of. NO PLACE is perfect, but I am VERY pleased with Mt. Alverna and I would tell ANYONE to just give it a try if you're looking for a place for a love one. From what I have seen when I was there it is a bit more upscale and my son has said the same thing as I. By the way, the staff ALWAYS kept me updated on everything that was happening and my mom even enjoyed going to the salon to get her hair done. The lady in the salon is wonderful. A HUGE thank you to the staff for taking such great care of my mother when I was unable to get there everyday!!

I want to thank Mount Alverna for the wonderful evening with my sister at your big Las Vegas event. It was fantastic. The rain was bad, but everyone kept on keepin on and had a great time too. What a dedicated wonderful staff so committed and caring. The Administrator Patrick right up came to my table and remembered me after one year passed since my mothers passing. He is incredible and caring I was in aw. Sandra, admissions and Tami moms nurse such dedicated people, and Mary Ann, and your team you did a fantastic job. The food the music, and seeing everyone long after mom passing and everyone of the staff remembered my mother and me and my family. I have so much love and admiration for this establishment that I will always visit and be a part of Mount Alverna, in my mothers good name Dorothy J Mandanici, or GrammaJean. Bless you all. Im coming back with some great music to dance with your residence soon, just like me and mom used to do ❤ She is smiling ❤

My grandfather was temporarily here. The staff took very good care of him and worked on recovery for him. The aids treated him with dignity and respect and brought some smiles to his face. Although he was not a permanent resident, he was treated with the same kind of care and respect. It did not feel like a dreary nursing home. I felt comfortable having someone I loved there.

My mother and father were rehabed at Alverna a combined 7 or 8 times. Overall care was good, especially the PT. Not too happy with receiving a bill from Dr. Franz 6 months after one discharge. Separately, my mother couldnt get a basic ice bag for post-surgical pain relief WITHOUT A DOCTORS ORDERS - REALLY ???? to be sure I raised the roof on that BS. But what really got me frosted was one nurse manager pushing the idea on my father to use Alverna for Assisted Living. Completely unethical at best. Bottomline - good place for rehab,THATS ALL.

Amazing. The best way I can describe Mount Alverna Village. The staff and the way they care for the residents, always friendly and helpful. Always clean and well kept inside and out. I dont think you could find any place better if you have a loved one that needs this type of care. There are always activities for every level of ability, and physical therapy for those that need it. The chapel is beautiful and was so nice being able to take my Mom to Mass. Again this is an amazing place.

My Dad was here for a couple weeks in short term rehab. We picked this place because of the religious background. When he could, he went to Mass at the chapel every morning. He enjoyed having that opportunity that wasn't offered at other places. The staff was fantastic. Medically knowledgeable as any hospital. The interaction with patients was professional as well as personable. The staff are special people. They work every day with sick, often agitated, elderly patients and do it without a problem. It takes special, talented people to work in an environment such as this. I would recommend Mt. Alverna to everyone.

This isn't really a review. But it's a lost book notification. In April my father was a resident in Rehab 104. I frequently took a book to read called The History of Drum and Bugle Corps. It is a mostly black book with white lettering. It is a library book and the library is charging me $125 for it. If anyone might have taken it figuring it was some type of donation to Mount Alvernia, please contact me at [email protected] . I am offering a $23.40 donation to either the Parma Animal Shelter for those who want to help traditional owner surrendered cats who have had love or Lucky's Angels Cat Rescue for those who believe that all cats even community cats who have never been given love have love to give and want.
