Reviews Atria Southpoint Walk
August 2024
I'd like to compliment the quality and outstanding level of care my mom receives at Atria Southpoint Walk in the Assisted Living area. She is treated with such dignity, respect and kindness from the staff. My mom feels at home and is so happy living here. As a family member, it gives us great comfort and ease, knowing that our mom is so well cared for and loves living at Atria. A heart felt thank you to all the staff, especially Bianca, Ashely, Debriah, Linda, Joanna, Christie, Robin, Tammy, PT/OT/Speech, Jacquline (wonderful chef and "soup lady" ) Dory , Jamaica and anyone I may have missed. And to Joyce for overseeing the quality and care at Atria Southpoint for the residents and staff. It's a wonderful place to live. Janie Keilwitz

I like it very much here! Would recommend!!

I just came from spending 10 days visiting my 98 year old mom at Atria Southpoint Walk assisted living retirement community in Durham, North Carolina. I cannot say enough about what a wonderful home it is for her! The facilities are clean, bright and cheerful. When you enter the building, you are greeted by friendly faces behind the front desk, who always make you feel welcome, especially Jamaika and Dory. And when Joyce, the director of Atria, walks through the lobby, she stops to chat with all the residents and guests. Even Juan, the head of maintenance, makes it a point to say hello to my mom whenever he sees her. The staff in the assisted living community go beyond just taking care of my mom. They treat her with the utmost dignity and respect, as if she was family. They connect with her on a personal level, getting to know about her life and daily activities, and also making sure all her needs are met when they check in with her every several hours. Heather, the nurse in charge of assisted living, exudes dedication and compassion, which permeates the community. Overall, the entire staff engages in a friendly and professional manner, but I would like to acknowledge Bianca, Ashley, Riddhi, Christy, Debria, and Linda for all the kindness and love that they give my mom on a daily basis. My mom is very happy there!

Joyce is a wonderful, warm and caring CEO of this lovely facility. Our 90-year old mother arrived there for independent living w extra help in October and now resides in a lovely assisted living unit. We were not sure how she would adjust. The staff and residents are welcoming, warm and friendly, the food is excellent, and the place is clean and very lovely. Every holiday is observed to the nth degree!! We are so happy for the kind and thoughtful attention to every detail. Even the weekly health check in's by in-house medical staff are much appreciated. Best of all, our mother is very satisfied and content there.

My Mom moved from Independent Living at Atria Southpoint Walk into Assisted Living. She said it's the best home she's ever lived in outside of the one with my Dad! The Assisted Living staff are so kind and caring. They are always thinking of the residents. I can't say enough about how great they are!!!
March 2024
The staff and residents at Atria have been very welcoming to our parents after their move to NC. Atria has excellent OT and PT services offered in the facility as well as visiting medical professionals. The dining experience is wonderful with tasty creative meals with friendly table service. We are very thankful for everyone who works at Atria and how they make every day special.

Atria Southpoint Walk has been the perfect place to move my older brother from upstate NY. His cottage is beautiful and very reasonably priced given all the amenities, including delicious meals! Both the staff and fellow residents have been friendly and welcoming. There's so much to do! Great outings and interesting in-house activities. I highly recommend Atria!

Atria Southpoint Walk in Durham is a great options for my clients that are seeking Independent Living with, the option of aging in place with its Assisted Living Community right next door. Joyce, Stacy and the team there really cares about their clients and it shows the minute you walk into the door. Staff are professional, courteous, and greets everyone with a smile. I will always share this community as an option for my clients. Thanks again Joyce and Stacy for providing such a great environment for our Seniors to live their best life. See you soon. Jonathan Clark with CarePatrol of Durham/Chapel Hill!

I have been a resident of Atria for 10 months. I came to Atria shortly after my wife of 60 years passed. Although that void will never be completely filled, the many new friends have greatly eased the void and have provided a new life. I really like my spacious apartment furnished with furniture from my house. Daily activities both in house and outside excursions keep me busy.

We moved my mother in to Atria last summer and while it was a struggle convincing her to move closer to us, we are glad she did. It is still a bumpy ride with her but I know she is safe and cared for. The last place she lived was nice and had all the "bells and whistles" but they didn't care for my mother like the staff at Atria do. The staff are ever present and engaging and I know they work hard. But every time I walk in the front reception area I am always greeted with a smile. There are a plethora of activities held and it's very nice to know that family are invited. Recently I attended a Charcuterie event and it was so much fun. There are other events planned for the spring and my mother is so excited to have my husband and I attend. One thing, recently that really impressed me is that we forgot to sign her out of the building one evening. I didn't think anything of it but when she didn't go down for dinner, the staff went looking for her in her apartment. She wasn't there and Joyce, the Exec Director called me asking if mom was with me. I am totally to blame for not signing her out but knowing the staff knew she wasn't around gave me an extra sense of security bc they are aware of their residents. I know there will continue to be bumps in the road ahead but we will just roll with them. Thank you all for the kindness you have shown my mother and me!

A wonderful place full of joy that cares for their residents!

I am a Senior Living Specialist who helps seniors and their families who are searching for a community to make their new home. I recently toured Atria Southpoint with a family, and we were all very impressed. Amy Adamski (while still very new to her role there) was incredibly knowledgeable about the community, and a super nice person! The residents and staff that we encountered on our tour were very friendly and welcoming. They have a very robust activities calendar, and offer true aging in place with Independent, Assisted, and Memory Care options on the same campus. If you or a loved one is looking for senior living in the Durham/Chapel Hill area, I would definitely recommend calling Amy and checking out Atria Southpoint!

My parents just moved into Atria Southpoint after moving down to NC from the northeast. Vanessa has worked tirelessly with us to make sure everything in the apartment was move-in ready for my parents, and they were welcomed by Atria's warm and friendly staff who are always ready to go above and beyond to help them with day-to-day needs, questions and requests. They love the courtyard view of their apartment, and have enjoyed the meals and the flexibility of the menus. My parents love that my family can join them for a meal in the dining room anytime we wish. We're so grateful to the staff for the work they do daily to make Atria a wonderful place!

I cannot say enough good things about Atria Southpoint Walk! I toured the facility twice- the first visit was to scout it out for my parents, and the second time I toured with my parents. Both visits we were hosted by Vanessa. She is warm, wonderful, and highly professional. She spent lots of time with us, answering any questions we had. The facility itself is really quite lovely! Spacious, yet cozy feeling. The apartments we saw were very nice, very spacious and well kept. One of our favorite areas was the gorgeous inner courtyard!!!! Wow!!! So peaceful and tranquil with lovely fountains, beautifully landscaped! My parents really enjoyed the visit and were thoroughly impressed with all aspects of Atria. The only "negative" I have with the whole experience is that, sadly, my parents chose to go to a facility in another state, where a sibling lives. If at any point their living situation changes in the future, Vanessa and her team at Atria Southpoint will be the first place I call!!

We have our 74 special needs sister here and it is perfect for her! Everyone has gone over and beyond. Heather,Vanessa and Barbara are the best! What I like best is that everyone there is positive and happy, something we all need more of in this world!

For several times over the last several weeks, I have had the pleasure of being at Atria with the parents of one of my closest friends. I certainly understand why my friend chose Atria for her parents' retirement. The condos are beautiful and most comfortable. And the food is one of the best services Atria offers. Each meal is 3 courses, is well-balanced, and delicious. I have visited many other retirement facilities, and Atria is the best I have seen. Even though I am not a resident or a family member of a resident, I highly recommend Atria!

It is hard to express the fantastic experience that I had at this facility in such a short period of time. Joyce, Heather, and Sarah treated me with such kindness and dignity!
February 2023
In searching for a place for my mom in the Durham-Chapel Hill area, Atria Southpoint Walk stood out far away above the others. Key to that was the attention Vanessa gave to finding out about my mom's needs and in following up with me over time about apartment availability. Vanessa was encouraging and supportive yet realistic and I very much appreciated that as we worked our way through the process towards my mom's move.

My parents moved into Atria Southpoint Walk in August 2022. The executive director, Joyce, and the sales director, Vanessa, were extremely helpful! Both Vanessa and Joyce were pleasant to work with and very knowledgeable about the needs and desires of aging family members. They were very supportive and understanding as our family tried to make this huge decision about helping our parents move from their home of 50 years to a place where they would have more support on a daily basis. We appreciated the fact that neither Vanessa, or Joyce, pressured us at all to make this decision and they assured us that we could take our time and come back later, if this wasn’t the right fit for our parents right now. These two ladies made us feel very welcomed and supported and that made it very easy to make the decision to come to Atria!

Atria Southpoint Walk has been my home since May 2019. In June 2018 my dear husband passed away very suddenly. In early Spring 2019, I was facing major surgery and a long recovery at home. A close friend was concerned about me and my beloved cat Jack living at home alone so she brought me to visit Atria. I loved it and was happy to know that I could continue to live near my church, my friends, my stores and restaurants ... all my familiar surroundings. I couldnt move to Atria right away but the Community Sales Director stayed in touch with me and righ after my surgery came to visit again and she showed me the most perfect apartment - a first floor 2 bdrm-2 bath with a bright sunroom where Jack could take a nap and watch the birds. I especially love having a full kitchen and being able to bring my own full-size washer -dryer right into my apartment. I leased the apartment immediately and since Jack and I moved here, I have never looked back. The staff are so friendly and helpful and they have made my life so easy. The great OT-PT therapists have helped me regain my strength and mobility. I am safe and well cared for and despite the isolation we have all experienced during COVID, I am so thankful to be here. My dear departed husband would be so pleased to know that I live in such a wonderul community!

I will say from our initial visit requesting information to visit to contact-5 star if i could give higher review I would. The property management to staff are genuine, lovely-curtious-responsive and expectations for our family, every day exceeds expectations. Most importantly, my father calls every day to say how thankful he is to be there and how happy he is every day. When we initially decided on the property it was for my parents, but prior to move-in my mom passed away. Thankfully this was all in motion with the sell of their home for my dd to move forward and settle in and move forward with life.I can not say enough of how amazing they were from months ago, to the present and my Dad is healthy-HAPPY-and secure and grateful to be there!! Lisa Ward, the director is honest and sincerely cares about the residents..Employees like Jamaica and Darrell make every day special and getting my dad through such a hard time in life especially during covid when family can not be there every day! Thank you!!! Sincerely, The Ciriano and DesRoches Family

The food that is served to the people living at Atria in Durham is terrible and the residents eat two of their meals per day there. Many residents are leaving because the food is so terrible. My father in law who lives there has lost 15 pounds since moving in because most of his meals he won’t eat because they taste so bad. If this continues he will be looking to move out also.

My mother came to live at Atria just a few months ago and what a dramatic improvement in her health, attitude and demeanor on a daily basis. Prior to her move she was sullen, not engaged in life and would sit for endless hours watching TV in the dark. Now shes taking field trips, eating well, exercising regularly and living her life to the fullest around other like minded seniors. Its literally the difference between waiting to die vs living a full life. Oh … did I mention shes 91 … and going to Zumba class.

I have found the staff here to be so kind and compassionate. The residents perpetually have smiling faces. The activity and culinary programs are unreal...they have SO much fun and eat WELL! Great place to live and work!

All staff extremely helpful and knowledgable about the needs that are required for my mother. When we visited for a second time with mother great care was extended to her and all her questions were answered, it took no time at all for her to make a decision to move in. She is looking forward to joining the community and meeting new friends.

We moved my father from Independent Living to Assisted living at Atria Southpoint Walk in November 2013. We have been very impressed and comforted by the staff in AL. They are always friendly, smiling and happy and willing to go above and beyond their job descriptions to help care for my father, my sister and I. We are particularly grateful to Gloria. She is professional, and caring, and quite knowledgable about patients and their needs. She will quickly and insightfully, point out if something isn't quite right or if she has a concern about Dad. She doesn't judge, and is kind and supportive. I don't worry about my dad, knowing that Gloria and the rest of the staff are looking out for him and all of the residents at Atria Southpoint. Thanks to Gloria and to everyone at Atria, you're doing a great job.

Very Pleased with our experience @ Atria Southpoint Walk. My Father n Luv (Bobby Pendergraft) says that everyone treats him like a KING. That is a priceless gift to our family! I am so Thankful that Jan Canada was so kind to help out the day I came in to check out the community. She went above and beyond to educate me and show me around Atria. I have told her on more than one occasion since relocating my father n luv to Artia that she was "My Angel Sent from Heaven";-) This process can be very overwhelming for everyone involved. I have been learning as I go and so Appreciate Jan communicating with me throughout the process, sharing her words of wisdom and the compassion that has been shown thus far!! She is truly an asset to the Assisted Living Community and has made my Father n Luv feel very welcomed, educated, & taken care of. Thankful for this community and for finding a place that my father n luv feels at home<3 PRICELESS Gift to our family and Bobby Pendergraft!! From my Heart to YOURS <3 Thank YOU!!

Our mother, BJ Brooks moved to Atria Southpoint Walk last spring. It is nice knowing she has a wonderful community to live in and does not have the worries of a home and large yard to maintain. My family and she agree there are many wonderful, hardworking and caring individuals who work at Atria. She has one staff member in mind she would like to recognize for her outstanding service. She is a member of the wait staff and her name is Ariel Smallwood. Ariel is a hard worker and does a super job in the dining room. Mom says mealtime is enjoyable because of people like Ariel, very genuine and caring. Ariel does her job with a smile and great attitude no matter what the situation. Thanks Ariel! BJ and family
