My mother has resided at Horizon House for 3 years. The staff is caring and engaged. She has community, space, care and safety. These things are so important as she ages and while she is still very mobile and sharp as tack, it is so comforting to me to know that she is surrounded by help when she needs it and that they are ready as she starts to need more direct help.

Horizon House is a large facility with several beds, three stories, and an entire memory care ward called "the Cottages". Horizon House staff are friendly, competent, and well versed in each client's specific needs and their abilities. I would like to highlight one staff in particular, Donna Hill, the face of Horizon House as the front desk operator and phone woman. Donna is often the first voice and face you hear and see when you speak to or visit Horizon House. Donna answers the door, works the phones, communicates needs and wants inter-office, and provides high quality support to care coordinators and to residents of Horizon House. Donna provides high quality care, compassion, and problem solving orientation. Donna communicates professionally, timely, and aids care coordinators in all kinds of challenges residents face from time to time. Horizon House operates like a very large facility oriented apartment complex. There is a communal cafeteria where residents congregate 3 times daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Residents may also take their meals to their rooms, though the communal area is encouraged for more social time and to build connections. Residents of Horizon House always appear clean, fed, and healthy. I almost never hear any complaints, and when I do overhear a complaint, I find that the problem is tended to swiftly and promptly. Horizon House staff are respectful, knowledgeable, and quick to respond to changing needs and problems in the home. While Horizon House operates more like an apartment complex for the elderly and the disabled, I feel that Horizon House is one large communal home. The apartments are simply tiny homes in a bigger communal network. Residents socialize frequently amongst themselves, there is a chapel inside the building to practice faith, and the home is welcoming of all walks, and all faiths. Horizon House offers spacious rooms, good food, dietary appropriate meals, entertainment via television in each room, and communal activities amongst the residents, as well as religious activities such as communal singing or group study sessions. I have personally seen several kinds of religious figures enter the building to perform faith based practices, such as end of life preparations. The community of Horizon House is very diverse. There are people from all kinds of racial backgrounds, and all kinds of work backgrounds. You might find a retired electrician chatting with a business supervisor, or a banker playing Bingo with a cross country skier. Tl;dr: Horizon House is friendly, highly adept at caring for the elderly and the disabled, and Donna Hill is typically the first point of contact for most people. Donna is an exceptional individual and performs great work for Horizon House. Horizon House is a diverse home.

This is actually Janet’s daughter (I don’t have access to my pass word right nowand I don’t want to change it). Anyway, my mom has been at Horizon House for almost a year and she is very happy! She is a very social person and there are numerous daily activities she can participate in as well as activities such as Senior Prom; Luau and other such events where family are invited. I’ve attended several of these events as well as craft club, game day, utopia wheel of fortune, and ceramics. Thy also have exercise class, Sunday services, and these are just a few of the events. There is no lack of things to do either in a social setting or alone. They have a library and a room to work on puzzles. And the food!!! I told my mom to tell the chef he’s never allowed to retire and the facility is not allowed to accept his resignation, he is that good! The staff is awesome, the CNA’s, the ladies that help in the kitchen, the ladies who greet you when you come in and the cleaning staff, they are all exceptional! I visit my mom so much, I’ve made friends with some of the other residents and I look forward to seeing them along with my mom when I visit.

When I needed to move my mother into assisted living the administrative staff of Horizon House quickly and efficiently accommodated us when space opened up. They are very nice and easy to work with. The caregivers are topnotch and when mom transitioned to hospice care they are caring for her and myself with such compassion and comfort. It's not an easy time of life but knowing I have the staff looking out for mom really helps. It's not home for mom but loving kindness slips in to help ease the way.

My Grams (Janet) has been here for over a year now and the staff is always smiling! Always helpful! AND so kind to myself and my children. It warms my heart seeing not only their faces but the other residents smile, giggle, and interact with my girls (6&3). The rooms are very spacious and the meal service is wonderful! I’ve never had a bad meal while seeing Grams and if something wasn’t to our liking , it is easy to ask for additional of something else or a different meal entirely. Staff members hold many different activities for residents and also social gatherings as well. Just recently we attended an ice cream social where many residents came outside to enjoy the sun and eat a scrumptious bowl of ice cream! We have received many arts and craft items Grams has made and look forward to more! Games and other movement activities are also encouraged and with Grams’ help and initiative, residents are getting more and more fun things to do. My family is extremely satisfied with the service Grams continues to receive at this facility. We can only hope others feel the same.

Horizon House is an an Assisted Living facility in Anchorage Alaska. Before I moved here I observed several similar facilities in the city. I chose Horizon because staff was very friendly and the building and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. They also provide excellent activities for the residents . The CNAs provide excellent care and they are friendly.

I was very unsure of my mother going into an assisted living home. Horizon house has changed my mind! The staff is very friendly, and always willing to help. They respect the residents and you can see that they truly enjoy their jobs.. The facility is clean and they take great care to make sure each resident has a clean unit. They do the laundry and care for each patient as needed. When my mom needs extra medical care, they are there to step in when we are not able to. The food is great here too. They have more than enough activities to keep the residents busy. The outside is also clean and well maintained. There is very pretty yard with a gazebo they can go and relax in. Overall this is a very nice facility and I would recommend it to anyone who needs to have their loved one in a place where they can get the extra care they need!

My mom has lived at Horizon House for almost a year and it is a truly wonderful place! Everyone that works there is so kind and caring, it really feels like home. My mom really enjoys all the activities and the wonderful meals too! The staff really keep a caring eye out for everyone and I feel like my mom is so safe and cared for there. All the staff know the tenants there on a personal basis. Whenever I ask a question it is always answered right away and I feel like the staff truly go out of their way to make everyone happy and comfortable. I feel so fortunate we have found Horizon House! It is a huge relief to my brother and I to have my mom in such a wonderful, caring place.

My grandparents and a couple other family members have had the pleasure of living at Horizon House the past few years. The apartments and dementia units all look spick and span. The staff are always friendly and inviting upon walking through the doors. They provide so many fun activities for the residence, including a Senior Prom! Additionally, Horizon House is very accomodating to both the residence and their families. Any time we have had concerns, staff is available to talk with us and walk us through procedures and the next plan of action. When we recently lost my Grandmother, my Grandpa couldnt afford to stay on his own and they provided our family with several resources to look into. I have had no issues concerning this facility and highly recommend it. Thank you staff for all that you do!
