The Bickford caregivers treat my mom and dad as if they are their own parents. It's so difficult because I live in the Detroit area and wish I could stop by every day to see my parents. The key to successful care is this: a family member needs to be present every day throughout the first couple of weeks so that the staff can be informed. This will ensure quality, personalized care. The new director, Chris Weber, is definitely passionate about his leadership role, and he responds to concerns in a timely basis.

Bickford of Okemos is a very homey and fun place! Caregivers are so helpful and kind. There is a large variety of choices for meals- from salad, to entrees and of course desserts! The apartments are clean and well maintained. Update Nov 2025 . Mom at Bickford now but not sure for how long . So much turnover core employees and the Director have left sad and frustrated a few wonderful caretakers and team remain thankfully but I cannot in good conscience recommend Bickford of Okemos.Bickford does not seem to value employees - the interim /regional director or whomever is making decisions seems not to work strategic paths to retain advance or keep talent - I am concerned by the struggling morale of those left who are covering and working crazy schedules and long hours this is poor mgmt that directly impacts safety wellbeing and consistent care of loved ones get it together Bickford . listen to your team on the ground .. the caretakers and the residents still left : if people are told or treated like they don’t matter they will find a better work place .and care place : Update April 2023 Dad continues to receive amazing care from attentive staff who problem solve unique issues with Dad ( he can be tricky and has good/bad days!) Communication must be two ways - and I am learning I must put forward patience, support, and ask questions. Very grateful for Bickford and their 24/7 experienced staff! Bickford is clean, people care and dad is happy and safe! 2022 post - My father had recent hip surgery and needed unique immediate and close care. Research and in person visits led me to select Bickford from several well rated and established care facilities for the best fit. They worked with dad and family to make him (and us) comfortable and welcome during a difficult transition. All the residents seem at home and individually attended. Glad I made the right choice.

This build is absolutely amazing! I went in to see the place for my loved one, and I was meet with loving staff that truly cared about their job, but not only their job they cared for and showed so much love and kindness to the residents. The building had such a warming and heartfelt atmosphere. It is truly the best assisted living home that I’ve ever seen.

Nice place with GIGANTIC POTHOLE in the entrance. Swallows your tire and makes it difficult to enter and exit the parking area. It’s a real safety hazard. I hope this POTHOLE does not cause an accident.

Our family feels love at Bickford Of Okemos Mom has a traumatic brain injury from a car accident, and they recognize that her situation is different than a more usual type of aging. She can’t hear very well, so she can’t interact as much as she might, but they seem to know her personality deeply. Mom doesn’t like to participate in group events very often. Therefore, they help us arrange for her to regularly join family for lunch at her favorite restaurant. They also know she likes music so they will work extra hard at getting her out of her room when there’s music going on. We have never regretted once our choice to place mom at this caring and lovely facility. She moved in at the end of January 2020, and she just had her 90th birthday. She never got sick when Covid was really scary. Overall, 100%! We love Bickford!

The Bickford has been an excellent place for my mother. The staff and leadership connect and build relationships with residents and their family members. The size and construction of the residential community promotes a positive and engaging environment. The outdoor atrium is one of our favorite spaces. My sister stayed at this facility for more than 3 months. We were very happy with the staff and Jen the present director of this facility. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Jen was very flexible and made every effort to make her stay as easy as possible. All kinds of services including physical therapy and a physician assistant regularly come to this facility Corey the bus driver /handy man is exceptional. We really loved this place!

While I can't comment on a resident experience, what I can confirm is the incredible amount of help, knowledge, and willingness to assist from the executive director (Jennifer Mullin) and Health & Wellness director (Grace Keenan). My family found ourselves in an unexpected hospital discharge situation that led to me calling several assisted living facilities in the area to get help with the "options" questions not being answered by the hospital. Jen and Grace spent nearly an hour with me answering questions, giving me a tour, providing me with literature, and confirming they have room there if needed. While the decision made was to keep my mother-in-law home, we would not have hesitated at all in moving her into the Bickford. Jen and Grace are great "faces" of this facility and I would strongly encourage you to talk with either one of them when having to make a difficult life-transitioning decision for a loved one.
