Kind and caring team!!! Keeps me updated on day to day activities for my mom. Finally there’s peace of mind that mom is safe ©
June 2026
I had to make the toughest decision of my life to put my husband into memory care and I made the right choice. Middlebrook Farms, in Trumbull , is outstanding. Patrick has adjusted beautifully because he is so well cared for. Every one on the staff guides him through an activity filled day. The food is good” he has gained 5 needed pounds! Middlebrook Farms is giving him much better care than we could give him at home, and in an attractive, warm environment. It takes good leadership to make this work and the Trumbull team clearly has it.

The receptionist, Danielle, is always very friendly, polite, and professional. She will go out of her way to help any and every time.

My family and I are so pleased with our decision to put my Mom at Middlebrook Farms at Trumbull after my Dad passed. The staff is very friendly and caring, the residents are welcoming and the food is delicious! We have peace of mind knowing she is in a safe and caring community.

My Dad has been loving living at Middlebrook Farms at Trumbull for the last four years. After our Mom passed we were trying to find the right assisted living environment and they have checked all the boxes better than we’d even expected. We couldn’t be happier.

The asthetics of Middlebrook Farms is very nice and with the upgrades that were just done makes it look even better. The activities and events they do definetly keep the residents occupied and involved. It is always a pleasure to be greeted by a friendly face as you walk in, but Danielle is by far the one person with her finger on the pulse of EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. She is able to assist in many different ways and is a binus to Middlebrook Farms. Overall , it has been a good place for my family member. As with all places there are hiccups and things that can be better, but residents are safe and secure at Middlebrook Farms. The two major faults I can say that doesn’t sit well with me is the lack of follow up ( meetings ) and the constant shifting of personnel. Hopefully the staff that is currently in place will be there for the long haul. Constant / regular staff is what keeps places organized, maintained and ever growing.

My parents moved into the community in the fall of 2021. After my dad’s passing, my mom has remained an active and cherished member of the community. Although our family has experienced some challenges with administrative turnover, we are very thankful for the staff who have stayed and continue to provide steady care and kindness. I’d like to especially recognize Danielle and Lisa at the front desk. Danielle has been a consistent lifeline for my sister and me as we navigate our mom’s aging journey, always offering support, understanding, and reassurance. I’d also like to express our gratitude to the nurses-such as Emma-and to all of the staff who interact with my mom with such kindness, patience, and compassion.

Beyond words - I struggle to describe - the heart warming memory care experience I'm grateful to be sharing with you. (yes, laugh -- as I still am wordy - without words!) As someone that thought she would NEVER have moved mom from the "forever family" home ... I also write this review with sage advice for YOU 🙂 .....if you have a loved one that needs to be placed .... my guess - you might be "me 6 months ago" carrying the heavy weight of this decision. As sole caregiver with no other family involved, this single mom covered it all. And if you knew my parents - I would never be able to give back all they gave me...so it was a token and joy to care for mom. BUT - Things quickly became more challenging - as a vacation I booked drew near ...and additional home aids just didn't feel right....I googled options "elderly short stay memory care facility."...and a second later, I learned what respite care was. I called the next day, set up a tour and quickly saw all they had to offer. Not only a full slate of activities planned, but staff at each turn caring for residents and others caring for the conditions of every area. Trained staff that knew so much more than I about all mom needed - made me realize she was in good hands. Mom had not eaten much for over a week when I moved her in, and that stress of me trying to trick her or force feed her hit me so hard. Doctor checked her out and all seemed bleak...and I knew best I could do was place her with people while I went away - and I'd figure out what next when I returned rested and recharged. The staff treated her as if they were their own mother - and understood that need to fit in "bites" at a time to get her appetite up. Mom has made such a come back. Her memory may continue to escape, but her joy and health only grows because of MiddleBrook Farms. What was going to be a short stay - is now 6 months and her forever home. I truly believe I would not have my mom without the care, attention, programming and all that is only found at MiddleBrook Farms. And --- I get to enjoy mom. No fretting over doing laundry, making meals, grocery shopping, giving meds, cleaning house and allllll that caregivers carry ....MiddleBrook Farms gave me a place to go and enjoy too. It's so very welcoming from the first step to the best receptionist greeting ...and with me visiting anytime, any day ....each and every staff member feels like the loving, understanding, helpful family I needed too....that's the bonus for me! When you think of what 20+ staff in rotation, professionally trained, medical eyes on your loved ones each day - to catch things Id never ben able to!, 3 meals a day, snacks, tea/coffee, programming 9-5 daily, outings, events, cleaning, laundry....my love and devotion to mom could NEVER match this.. I wish I had every name to thank - seriously! I am not lying when I say - there has not been one person in 6 months that has been anything but incredible! ...so forgive me for only highlighting the few names I do know ... Thank you: -Michelle 🙂 - from taking the first hectic call from me, to a quick calming tour and then - there at every turn always -Jolyne - for your heart/soul in the entire memory care oversight - everything! -Maggie - for the detail you do in cleaning that many may not notice --- cause it just always looks great -Aldene -everyday - your juggle of activities and engaging the residents is beyond comprehension...and always with a smile so warm -John & Victor - caring for the maintenance is no small feat - and geesh, you do it all with a multiplier of more things to be fixed that any of us could ever imagine. -Yogita and all the nurses - your care of delivering meds and keeping on top of health bits large and small - simply the best! So.....if you've made it to still reading and considering options - I hope this comes across from my heart and deep admiration of the place, the people, the program --and most of all - the peace you gain with your loved ones here. XO PS - forgive typos and terrible grammar!

Words cannot describe how pleased my family is with middlebrook Farms! Our mother reluctantly moved in almost two years ago and from the initial meeting with Michelle Jaffee(who is awesome!) to the compassionate care of each aide on a day to day basis to the medical staff to the incredibly sweet receptionists and to the well run food service with chef Bill, MB has exceeded our (and especially my mothers) very high standards and expectations! Keep up the great work that benefits so many!

My Father in law has thrived since his arrival at Middlebrook Farms. When he first moved in, we were not sure how he would acclimate to the memory care unit. It was clear, from very early on, that he would be well taken care of and helped with his transition. After 7 months on the unit, he is walking around, looking forward to every meal, and participating in a few activities. The staff meets him where he is each day. They encourage his participation in activities, but allow him to be an observer if that is his choice. The staff has gotten to know his likes and dislikes, his sense of humor, how he likes to dress, and what he likes to eat. My father in law smiles, jokes, tells how bright and clean the unit is. He is clearly happy, feels safe, and content in his new home. The staff is always welcoming to all members of our family. They joke with us, and keep us informed of any needs my father in law may have. We have enjoyed sitting outside and being in common areas for our visits. We have held family celebrations in the private dining room. This has allowed my father in law to be a part of the festivities . We are very grateful for the care and love my father in law received at Middlebrook Farms.

My mother moved to the memory care facility at Middlebrook Farms at Trumbull in 2023. I could not have made a better choice in where she is. The people who take care of her are extremely patient and caring. They have programs that allow for people of different abilities to participate and be as active as possible. My sister and I and very pleased with the care our mother receives.

From the moment my mom first walked through the doors of Middlebrook Farms, she looked at me and said, This is the place for me. What began as a one-month respite stay has turned into the place she now calls home”and with good reason. The staff here is simply amazing. But they’re more than just caregivers”they’ve become part of our family. Their kindness, attention, and genuine care have brought joy and peace not just to my mom, but to our entire family. Every time I visit, I see the smile on her face, and it reminds me that she’s not just being looked after”she’s being loved. She truly enjoys her apartment, the atmosphere, and the sense of community. Thank you, Middlebrook Farms, for creating a warm, welcoming, and safe environment that my mom is proud to call home. My closest friend of more than 50 years elected to move to Middlebrook Farms about 4 years ago. I visit with her frequently and participate in many of the activities. Many residents think I live there, but I actually live 45 minutes away in West Redding. I have become well acquainted with many residents and with most of the staff. There are many caring people in this community, from the front desk and throughout. My friend is quite content and believes it was the right choice for her at this stage in her life. I would like to give special short outs for Danielle at the front desk and for Carol who leads a weekly Bible discussion. They both constantly go over and above the call of duty on behalf of all residences.

During my mother’s first week on the Harbor Unit she said to us, I feel safe here. We felt such relief with these words, because be assured if she wasn’t happy she would have certainly told us. This feeling of security stayed with her throughout her time on Harbor. We visited with her once or twice a week on different days and at different times. Every time we saw her she was well cared for, and often times engaged as much as she could be with others. We cannot speak highly enough of the Care staff and their gentle and attentive care for her. Also, the recreation staff was extremely clever in finding ways for her to participate in activities, especially the trips taken out in the community. John P Iannarone, M.D. and Elaine Iannarone

After two years, the only thing that has been accomplished in this establishment is successfully cashing our checks. I'd like to set the expectation that our move in process went extremely well, and we had a great experience with Kate, but after that, the administration and care is something to be extremely cautious of. Imagine going to visit your loved one for the first time, and walking in to actually observe the receptionist, Danielle, standing out in the open, discussing loudly and boisterously her dislike for residents, and catching her and the Administrator, Julia, speaking very ill of your family and loved one. And then, as you stand quietly in shock, they come to greet you with a big smile as if it were a non-issue. And as you stand there stunned and say, "I heard all of that," Julia just says, "That's Ok." And then, being told you can only visit for one hour, and outside in the rain in the middle of March. And as you wait in the lobby, CNA's come up and chat away with Danielle at the reception desk about the resident's medical conditions out in the open, because HIPAA doesn't matter, and people who are sick are apparently a laughing matter. If you rely on their transportation, don't. You can plan appointments weeks in advance, notify the front desk of the appointment time and destination, and then learned to call the day before because they never keep track, and she has missed and needed to reschedule appointments for their disorganization. The morning of a major heart surgery, it was guaranteed by the Director of Nursing that "they've got it" and would make sure your family member was dressed and ready at the front of the building on time. And then, only to have the CNA berate and torment her saying she "didn't know nothing" and is just going to do her other assignments. The distress this poor woman went through before a cardiac surgery for no good reason will never be acceptable. The front desk sending away an ambulance for your relative that was called 911 for an emergency because "the old people don't know what their doing and try to call rides to go places all the time..." instead of calling to find out yes, there is an emergency and now another ambulance needs to be dispatched further prolonging her ability to get urgent care while being unable to breathe. When they deliberately run out of a menu item, they just bring up whatever they decide, and have at times said "you get what you get, or you don't get nothing." With no supervision in the dining room, there have been fights amongst residents, people urinating on the table, residents stripping down and undressing for all to see when they should have memory care assistance. Be aware that if you utilize their recommended APRN, you'll never get a call, or a status report unless they need your payment authorization over the phone. Be aware that if you press your call button, it could be upwards of 45 minutes before anyone even pops their head in to say they'll "send someone else." This is especially wonderful when the resident is having an allergic reaction. And the list can go on, but most importantly know that they do not have the ability to properly staff or provide minimal care to residents.

Middlebrook Farms @ Trumbull is the next best thing to Mom being home. When the time came for us to make the decision for around the clock care, I did not know if I'd be able to find a place that met my standards and expectations. As a few examples: If I walked in the reception area of a long term care facility and saw or smelled the slightest indication of less than sanitary and visually pleasant surroundings, I would walk right back out the front door. (Incidentally, over the years, preliminary and proactive searches found me doing exactly this). Obviously, the opposite was true of Middlebrook. In meeting with staff, I didn't just want to hear about how much they cared, I wanted to see it in action. So, I took great notice of the residents' grooming as well as their countenances and the manner in which the staff interacted with them, alongside of the general atmosphere, when visiting a community. Middlebrook past that window. Fast forward.... through COVID and more...almost 2 years later, I am eternally grateful that Middlebrook was selected and that the staff has met Mom's specific and particular needs as an individual and as a member of her community. Without a doubt, it is because of their programming and attention to details that Mom remains active and productive. Again, Middlebrook stood shoulders above the competition. They still do. THANK YOU Middlebrook and The Benchmark Communities, their parent company, from the bottom of my heart!

From the first days of introduction and planning, through move-in and ongoing transition period in Harbor Memory Unit, my family member has been showered with care, understanding and warm welcome. The staff has experience and expertise, grace, grit and humor. I have been particularly impressed with how everyone at Middlebrook Farms values the dignity of each individual patient-resident--and the family members as well! The administration and staff have a deep sense of our shared humanity and the journey each of us is on. I am more thankful than I can find words for.
