Reviews The Heritage Inn

The care there seems really good when we show up unannounced. The only thing that concerns me is how patients are free to enter another’s room anytime they want. The combo to room is know to many of the patients when only caregivers should have that info. Items are being taken and also afffects sleep and rest of others . Also with Covid rising that could increase as well and care and well being of both patients involved.

I wish the room combinations weren't available to all core members. They are constantly entering rooms and taking items. These combinations should only be available to care givers. Other than that one recommendation, I find the facility to be neat and clean and the staff very nice to guests.

I can't say enough about this place I called home for a temporary time. The staff was always present with a smile & a helping hand. They were watching cautiously with allowing freedom. Sylvia was outstanding, along with Faith. This was the second time we utilized the facility, as I have Hydrocephalous (water on the brain). Normally I live with my wife, unfortunately she had to go out of town for a short period of time & wanted to make sure my medications were given properly, my meals & to watch my balance. I am with the program most of the time mentally. I do get confused at times & know when so I can alert someone. I loved my stay here, their kindness & love is overwhelming. I would highly recommend the Heritage Inn at Charlottesville to anyone. It is delightful!!!! Ed Larbre

I've had the privilege of witnessing the extraordinary care and compassion of the employees at the Heritage Inn, a transitional home for individuals with memory impairment. The staff, particularly Kelly Backe, demonstrate unwavering dedication and passion in their work. Kelly's kindness, patience, and understanding I believe have probably made a significant impact on the residents' lives, providing a sense of comfort, security, and belonging. The Heritage Inn' comes across as a warm and supportive environment, combined with employees like Kelly, sets a new standard for memory care. I'm grateful for the love and attention shown to each resident as I am told is the case, and I highly recommend this exceptional community to anyone seeking a supportive and nurturing environment for their loved ones.

I recently toured Heritage Inn I was very impressed with the facility it was very clean and I felt very welcomed there . The owner his Admissions Director and other staff members involved were very kind and helpful helping me decide the best plan for my relative. The facility in all was beautiful and felt more like a home to my family than any other I had toured. It's in a very good location which made me comfortable also. I was totally impressed and would recommend to any family that has to make this decision for their family member. Thank you again Heritage Inn for making me more comfortable with my journey in making this decision for my family member and I was also pleased with the cost involved it's worth peace of mind having a family member in this facility

After trying several other assisted living communities in the area, I've finally found the best, well trained, professionally staffed facility in central Virginia. Personnel are universally helpful, kind and caring. This is the only ALF I've found that has an actual MD--a gerontologist to boot!-- and associated NPs who will visit on site. While assisted living facilities are not, by definition, healthcare facilities, I feel that The Heritage Inn is serious about monitoring and maintaining the health of my loved one.

Our mother has been in the Memory Loss section at The Heritage Inn since July. We cannot say enough about the wonderful staff and management for The Heritage. Each time I visit staff is smiling and appear to be happy in their positions. I can only say it takes very special people to do the work everyone there does in every aspect of The Heritage. Angels come in all forms and each time I visit I know I am in the presence of many. My brother and sisters and I are grateful for the above and beyond care our mother receives on a daily and nightly basis. GOD bless all who have a hand in caring for our Mom during this time in her life.

Clean facility, and attentive staff. Meals seem adequate, with plenty of healthy snacks in between.

The patient care staff at Heritage Inn treat each patient as an individual and with respect. They are warm and caring. I traveled many miles to be with my brother and felt welcomed and encouraged. These folks do a difficult with grace and kindness. Many thanks.

I work at The Heritage everyday. I thoroughly enjoy all of the residents and staff.

I was very impressed with the way the residents here are like a great big family. It is casual and relaxed just like at home and that is exactly how they feel, both employees and residents. Great job!

My father was a resident at The Heritage Inn for a few months. Though the Heritage Inn is a no nonsense, " no chandelier" assisted living facility, the staff go above and beyond to care for these precious people. Great pains are taken in decorating the facility in a warm and homey fashion. My parents were primitive furniture collectors, and loved that style, so, my dad felt very at home with this and the fireplace in the dining room, big windows and the parrot in the parlor. . . Whom my son and daughter sang with regularly. My daddy was a dialysis patient, 86, and was suffering from severe cardiovascular disease and microvascular disease throughout his body. Though he was very mobile and energetic, shining a light for all around him, he was beginning to require more complex care. At one point, he needed dietary changes for a stomach that wasn't perfusing well. The kitchen staff bought soy milk and other items to help his digestion. Their food is made for a huge group, institutional food, but they took care in accommodating his individual needs as much as possible. Before dialysis, they packed lunches for him with such sweet care. When we settled him there, he was able to bring his own bedroom suit into a double occupancy room. Louise, the admissions director, was very assuring and set up helps for us to set up his bed. Latoya, went to great lengths to assure that I could order his meds from the VA, saving him much money, and coordinated with me so I could order his meds in a timely manner. Our family's emotions, care were also taken into consideration. . My 12 and 15 y/o always felt comfortable and even LOVED by the staff. When my daddy passed away, I was called at 630 in the morning by the sweetest man, Brian, who I do believe felt deep grief at my dad's passing, as well. When we arrived there, that morning, we were met with hugs and kisses. The residents there also surrounded us, and we had spent much time talking with them over those months. For them to put their whole hearts into our loved ones' lives, knowing they will eventually pass, is the most selfless act I've ever known. As a Registered Nurse, I had to, initially, understand that this is Assisted Living, and what that means. This isn't acute care or nursing home, certainly not. With my dad's complex health issues, I was there with him most days, but I always felt the caregivers there were on my team and either assisting or guiding me. I never felt alone in my decisions, and they were always on standby for whatever we needed. I can't name everyone, but Louise, Kelly, and Tina were always helpful . . Also The housekeeping people who, when my dad bloodied his furniture, took great care in cleaning it to like new! Some workers came and left, but the facility never hesitate to to ensure inly the best were looking after these residents. We had homemade for my mother. . . But they sometimes made my family feel unwelcome and frequently things were broken and damaged in my parents home by these workers. I never worried about these things at The Heritage Inn. I would be glad to answer any questions in your quest for the place for your loved ones.

Outstanding staff and service, great atmosphere. Respectful and pleasant toward residents and families.
January 2019
The Heritage team is wonderful: i am so grateful for their patience, kindness, compassion and grace in caring for my aunt for many years. They understand what families go through as loved ones age and show such kindness towards all involved.
January 2019
I have known Kelly L. Executive Director and her core team for many years. I see the care patients receive on a daily basis and challenges that arise and are quickly attended to by Kelly and her staff. I have also known many friends that have or had patients at Heritage Inn and they are very pleased with the care their loved ones received.
November 2018
All of the negative reviews on this place are a hundred percent factual! No lies have been told notice how two of them mention the fact of her popping pills and being a pill popper. I had no idea that a nursing home would even want an ADDICT running their facility. It seriously surprises me that the owner hasn't made any responsible decisions in getting rid of said director! This nursing home is a complete JOKE. No positive reviews on this place will ever make up for the negative ones in place. When there is a problem people should fix the issue apparently with all the negative reviews people have taken the time to put in place then OBVIOUSLY there is an ISSUE that needs to be resolved. Do they do cover ups on things that happen the answer is YES. I have seen it for myself first hand. Good luck to the families that have their loved ones in all of this CIRCUS under their TENT!!!
July 2018
They were so caring of the residents there. They kept me informed of everything. They treated me like family whenever I came to visit my husband. I would highly recommend this facility for anyone in need of this type of place for their love one.

I visit Heritage Inn at least twice each week--to meet with staff and visit with residents. The people and atmosphere are always engaging, joyful, warm, and highly relational. I am always happy to spend time in the Heritage Inn community!

my husband is a patient in the dementia unit. visit him everyday and when is not to alert i enjoy talking to all the staff. they are the greatest.
May 2017
The care takers are the hands down sweetest people there are. They love on all the residents 24/7. My mother in law loves the food!! She says someone comes and gives her bananas, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.....oh and dont get me started talking about "Teka"the amazon parrot...
May 2017
Just think they ought to change the name. Probably be my grandmothers next home soon.
March 2017
I have worked with the Heritage Inn staff for training. The administration is dedicated to the Inn and all those who live there. They requested staff training to improve care for their residents living with dementia. I was shocked when over 40 staff members from all departments attended, all eager to learn so they could better serve the residents. That level of participation is rare. The joy I saw in the staff's faces when they talked about why they loved the work spoke volumes. If my parents lived locally and needed care, I would not hesitate to entrust them to the staff of the Heritage Inn. ~ The Dementia Nurse <3

November 2016
The staff at The Heritage Inn have huge hearts. They care for residents as a family. It is a beautiful place.
November 2016
My husband and I have had a total of 3 elderly parents living at the Heritage Inn over the past 4 years. Although my father died shortly after going there, he was in extremely poor health and had a stroke. My mother-in-law lived there for 4 years and when offered an opportunity to leave, she wanted to stay. She passed recently at almost 103 years old. She was surrounded by staff members trying to bring comfort to her and to the family. My mother has been there for 3.5 years and loves it. The staff is very loving and kind and my mother enjoys them very much. She enjoys most of the food and participates in many of the activities. Heritage Inn takes the interested residents out to lunch every week which is a nice treat for them. We trust Heritage Inn to take good care of my mother. She enjoys every day and loves the attention that she receives from the staff. We are there frequently and watch out for her.
October 2016
Facility is very nice and clean inside. They hired us to come in with our small petting zoo just to put smiles on there residents who are just like there family there. They were very involved with there residents, everyone seemed like family I enjoyed putting smiles on everyone!

My Dad and Mother-in-law have been living at The Heritage Inn for the past two years. All of the staff and administrative team are wonderful. Even though I work here, it did not cause me to make the decision for them to live here - other facilities are much closer to where they have lived for the the past 30 years! I rest easy each night knowing that when I return to work they will be happy and smiling.
November 2015
I have been with the Heritage Inn for a little over a month. In this time frame I have seen nothing but a family friendly environment and staff. The Executive Director takes the time to speak with residents and family members who stop by her office. She knows all of the residents by name and took the time to help me know the residents as well. The Executive Director has been a great mentor to me since I am new to the assisted living environment. I am very blessed to be at a wonderful assisted living community and I am grateful to have found my second home and family.
November 2015
Well, I have only recently started working for this community as a charge nurse. February 2014 I have found our executive director to be very competent, caring, and trustworthy. Running this community is no easy task and by no means is she able to do by herself. That is why we are a team and are building a great team. And yes we may have to let a few bad seeds go in order to complete our team of "TEAM PLAYERS".
November 2015
Upon entering this community there is a warm feeling consistent with great management as well as leadership. There is no "fake" lobby where all is beautiful until you get behind the scenes. The staff is competent and compassionate and are loyal to the residents. Activities are abundant and I never see residents grouped together and looking bored! Lunch and Learn is available to the public and has interesting topics that go along with wonderful lunches and this is what they serve the residents. I feel as if I have been taken out for lunch at a nice restaurant! I would highly recommend this community for anyone who is looking for a down to earth place to live where you receive the help that is needed while you still feel independent. This is a great "home away from home"!
November 2015
I have worked at several assisted living facilities throughout Virginia and The Heritage Inn by far has been the best working experience I have encountered. When I first came to The Heritage Inn I immediately felt the warmth from all the staff. No one was unkind and to come in unknowingly, I found that the staff truly cares about each and every resident in the community. The residents become a big part of our families. If I ever have to make that decision to place my father in a community, it would be The Heritage Inn!!! As a response to the below comment made by Janice (whom is a disgruntle employee that was terminated) none of those accusations are true
October 2015
I moved from Colorado to Virginia and was blessed with a career at The Heritage Inn. I was welcomed with open arms. I have been at the Heritage Inn for two years and throughout my time here, I have seen nothing but a loving community with a respectable reputation. The Executive Director showed me through example how a home-like environment works. Although she is a very busy woman I have never seen her turn down an opportunity to talk with residents and family members. She has taught me so much and I am proud I work with her. The residents are everyones top priority and staff shows concern, love and respect for everyone. The Executive Director has helped everyone here move up and learn everything they can through ongoing classes and training. I am sometimes amazed at how much she does for others without a second thought! Overall, The Heritage Inn is an excellent place for our residents and employees. I couldnt want for a better place to work and I am shown everyday through the love of our amazing staff that I am in the right place!!

I've played there several times over the years in a big band called Phoenix...I've eaten the food as well...It's as good as it looks...

First of all the Director is very rude. She is on pills really bad walks around sometimes trying to hide her eyes behind her sunglasses. She really doesnt care about the residents or employees. The residents went for quite sometime without oral care and still the oral care is horrible. APS has been called on them a few times some of the deaths have been investigated there and they do sometimes chemically restrain some of the residents with medication and of course they have a medical excuse to cover it. The residents are sometimes made to lay down just so that the director and owner do not have to deal with them or even have to see them. They feed the residents the same food almost everyday there is not much of a variety especially for breakfast. Sometimes they are low on food. And the turnover at the facility is ridiculous. They need a better director to run the facility since the current one is only worried about her own pill popping sickness. She will have employees DC meds off of the cart just so that she can feed her sickness. She has slept with multiple male employees, and has made it apparent to all who work there. One of the residents got hurt really bad a bit ago and they lied about what happened to the family member just to cover the mistake they had made. If you really love your family member and you want to keep them safe and really cared for please find another facility a better one that could give your family member that care that they really need the right way because as long as they have someone like her running that facility is a danger to the lives of your loved ones. To top it off you can ask around most of the other facilities will probably tell you exactly what she is all about cause they all talk about her and the facility anyway.
December 2014
They already have my room reserved for when I'm ready. Love this loving and caring place!
December 2014
My mother stayed there a year and a half. Only because of financial constraints I had to remove her. The facility was always clean and very welcoming. I would totally recommend this facility to anyone in need of senior care. They have a calendar with all the activities that are available to all the residents. Music, games, walks, etc. there is always something for them to do.
September 2014
My daughter and I, both work here. Love my residents. New and old! Thinking of starting a crochet club. We would even enjoy outsider to help some of our residents who will be first time crochet. Would love any feed back. Sheila Hunley
