After having difficulty getting help for our loved one, I decided to do a little research and looked up reviews on Asbury Court in Des Plaines. Florence's review from 2024 is spot on. I am shocked that a business that is supposed to take care of the elderly is able to get away with the disrespect and neglect that these tenants are experiencing. We are experiencing the exact same treatment that is expressed in that review. Think long and hard before you choose this as your option.

My mother was at Asbury Court in Des Plaines, IL for five years and lived in the assisted living wing, the assisted living wing ( Medicaid) and the skilled nursing ( rehabilitation) wing, ending in 2024. The assisted living wing seemed very mediocre. They mostly seemed to warehouse the elderly as they didn’t have very many activities for residents but they seemed to carry out the basics well in terms of administering medications and providing for meal times, though my mother always complained about the poor quality of the food. When my mother depleted her funds she was transferred to the Medicaid wing and this wing was pretty horrible. First of all the rooms are infested with bed bugs. They will upon demand put insecticides in the room but they really need to exterminate the whole facility, which they are unwilling to do. Licensing is aware of this and it’s just a public secret that this building is infested with bed bugs and they are unwilling to do what’s necessary to rid the facility of the bed bugs. This wing has very poor communication, the staff ignores requests, or they are met with a passive/ angry resistance and they do not return phone calls. Most staff do not have a phone or voice mail so talking with staff is next to impossible. The residents are isolated and warehoused at the facility with again an absence of social activities or the barest forms of entertainment. Residents do have a private room and bath that they may decorate and furnish. Though again any furniture and clothing brought into the facility will become infested by bed bugs so all the other wings do not accept clothes and furniture from this wing. The rehabilitation wing is the newest and patients share a room. This wing appears adequate. The staffing ratios appear higher and they do have some minimal activities on the wing. (They show movies.) Some of the patients are combative or agitated so you have to assess your roommate as they can be difficult and again staff will not communicate with family if a patient falls, or was hurt, or if their room mate is difficult; so a family member needs to be involved as an advocate at all times. As a whole the facility tends to be overwhelmed and disorganized in general. I’m sure they pay most workers there the lowest salaries possible, though again rehab seemed the most adequately staffed. Overall score D-

My sister's and I recently moved our mom into Asbury Court. The moving and acclimation process went seamlessly. The building is clean and the staff wonderful and kind. We appreciate how the staff shows great respect for the residents. A big thank you to Joanna for making this happen! We do not know what we would have done without her!!

The admissions director, Joanna, was fabulous. She was not only great at promptly returning calls, but she also gave us some great advice. While we struggled getting my sister in law transferred, she was very helpful and went out of her way to show us the apartment options to hold one until she could be transferred. The staff has been amazingly welcoming, the receptionist recognized us at our second visit. The residents have also been very welcoming to her. She is beginning to interact with them more, and recognizes many of them. This has made the transition to assisted living so much easier.

Asbury Court was chosen for my sister (74 years) who is experiencing some early Alzheimer's difficulties and was not doing well living on her own. She was considered a perfect candidate for Independent Living at Asbury Court, and with the caring assistance of Joanna Gorski (Director, Admissions), she moved in last March. Important in this decision was the fact that Asbury offers multiple future paths for my sister in terms of Memory Care, Assisted or Supportive Living, or other levels of needs going forward. It provides my sister with social interaction, which she did not have living on her own. She has adjusted quite well and seems quite happy living there. I highly recommend Asbury Court and the many levels of care that are offered there.

‚ For years my mom did very well living by herself in her condo but at 94 even the simplest tasks became overwhelming. She finally admitted that she could no longer live by herself so we began the search for a place where mom could get help when she needed it. Fortunately we found Asbury Court and it turned out to be the perfect place for mom. Now mom has a community of fellow seniors, three meals a day in the dining hall, laundry service and housekeeping. And most importantly, they manage her prescriptions for her. When she was assigned her own room, we brought in her furniture and pictures from her condo so she could have familiar surroundings and she loves it. She has her own bathroom and shower, her own kitchenette and a very large window to let the sunlight in and a nice window shelf to grow her plants. And if I can't find her in the building then I'm sure I can find her on an outside bench enjoying the sunshine in the courtyard. When mom lived on her own we couldn't get her to go out to the salon with us to get her hair cut so she cut her own hair. At Asbury, they have their own salon so Mom actually went and got a professional cut and she looked better than she has for years. She loved getting someone else to cut her hair and she's looking forward to her next styling! One night I stopped by to visit so I wandered around to see many of the goings-on that were happening in the main activity room. Many of the residents were playing bingo. Some of the men were off to the side room watching the hockey playoffs. And then I saw several of the residents in the theater room watching a movie together on the big screen while chowing down on popcorn while enjoying each other's company. The comfort I witnessed was wonderful. My mother is a difficult and independent person so we thought it would be hard for her to accept supportive living. She embraced it and she said to us that all of the people were so nice and helpful. And that is true. From our first contact with Joanna to our everyday contact with the kind nurses and staff we've confirmed that we found a great place for mom were she can be happy and feel safe. You don't know how hard it was for us to move her to supportive care but Asbury made it happen and we were very fortunate to find it. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone at Asbury.

It took me over a year to find the best possible situation for my mom's care. Though emotional, the warmth and professionalism of the caring staff made it a smooth and easy transition for my mom. I am relieved to know that she is in good hands when I cannot be there. Her apartment is bright and cheery as well as the clean and modern dining room and gathering areas. Joanna was so great to work with as well as all the other support staff that I encountered.

All the staff have been attentive and amazing at their jobs. Thank God for places and people like Asbury Court. The rooms are charming and have all the amenities that you need. Thanks Joanna again!

After months of looking for the best memory care facility for my mom, our family was so happy we were referred to Asbury Court. It started with Joanna, the admissions director, who convinced us to put my mom on the waiting list. While waiting, Joanna's follow up and advice to us was second to none in the time from our first meeting until now that my mom is a resident. She had us well prepared for the entire move-in process and it went seamlessly. Once she handed us off to the rest of the staff, things have gone just as well as everyone seems so caring and welcoming, from the receptionist, business office, maintenance, the nursing group, and all of the care staff on the floor. We had many concerns and fears moving mom, but we feel like she is in good hands as they take care of her in a clean, safe, caring environment.

This is my first submitted review of any type. I have found that since I have been finding other reviews extremely beneficial in my decision process for purchases and services I thought that I needed to add my own for Asbury Court in Des Plaines, IL. We knew that we had to move my mother from her independent living facility and started the long and tedious process of finding a place that could support her requirements not only for now, but also anything that might be required in the future since at her age, we did not want her to endure another move. We spent a lot of time visiting and reviewing a huge assortment of senior housing without finding one that not only can provide our mother what she would require in support and services, but one she would be able to afford to stay in. When expressing this "frustration" to one sales staff at another senior housing center, the person mentioned to look into Asbury Court in Des Plaines. What I can say now is that I am so thankful for that referral since I don't believe we would ever be able to find this facility on our own since it was a bit outside of geographical area that we have been looking in. From the first meeting with Joanna in the sales office, to ever other person who works to provide all the services and support to the residents, I have found their commitment and level of service to the residents and my mother exceeding my expectations. The most important element is that Asbury Court was able to provide the additional care my mother has recently required and simply transitioned her from independent care to Assisted Living and just recently into Skilled Nursing/Rehabilitative Care. The most recent example of this unsurpassed commitment we experienced with my mother is that the person came in on their day off just to assist checking in my mother from her move from the hospital into the Skilled Nursing/Rehabilitative Care center. I have countless other examples of the surprising level of care regarding all the service providers from the RN's, the maintenance staff to the ladies at the front desk that I just didn't expect. No place is perfect and my mother has expressed some complaints as comparing the decor, menu and food against her previous senior center. But when my family discusses my mother's care, we have found ourselves continuing to be thankful that we were able to place her in Asbury Court because it has relieved the anxiety we all have experienced over the past years in addressing her wellbeing.

My in laws moved into Asbury Court 9 months ago. My father in laws lives on the memory care floor and my mother in law is on the assisted floor. From the minute we met with Joanna at Asbury Court in Des Plaines, we were confident that my brother would feel good living there. Joanna won our trust with the way she made us feel and that she really cared about us and this difficult decision we were making for my brother to live out his life. She is so friendly and informative. She answered all our questions and has followed up with our every need since he moved in. I have told friends about your facility and I have another friend's mother moving in. I wish all the staff could be as awesome as Joanna.

Becoming a new resident at Asbury Court has been an easy and happy transition for me. The staff have all been friendly and incredibly helpful in answering all my questions and in meeting all my needs. Joanna welcomed me and took personal interest in my adapting to my new life. Jessica and the rest of the nursing staff have been especially helpful in taking control of my medical needs. Luz Elena and the rest of the kitchen staff are also concerned about my eating needs. The bottom line is that everything here is successfully geared toward making me comfortable. I would recommend this community to anyone.

Our family moved our parents into Asbury Court in Des Plaines in January of this year. My father went into the memory care unit and my mother went into the assisted living area after she had spent time in the rehab section of this facility, after suffering a bad fall. This process is very stressful on a family but the director of this facility Joana Gorski, couldn't have made the transition any smoother. She gave us a personal tour of the facility, and answered all of our questions and concerns during the tour and answered all my calls when I had additional questions about how my parents would be taken care. My mother is being checked on three times a day to make sure she takes her medicines and eats her meals. Her CNA Nancy is always checking on her and always has a smile on her face. The renovations/upgrades they are making at this facility are wonderful. I would highly recommend Asbury Court in Des Plaines.

My mom was put there because she had to go on Medicaid of Illinois, what I've experienced is the staff lied to me twice saying my mon didn't want to see me when I came for visits...they don't go get my mom to help her b active with any of the activities there, and she's in memory care so she really likes activities but can't sign up for them on her own and like I said no help with getting her out of the one room apartment she's 89 years old needs no cane and likes activities. Their refrigerators in the single room apartments are horrible. They just don't check on her welfare enough for the amount of money it is monthly to b there it's like $6000 they take all my moms money and the $4000 a month she gets from her husbands social security and pension it's all just not right.

We have been looking for a supportive living facility for my mom-in-law for a little while. Upon speaking with Daniel and asking a lot of questions we felt like it was the right fit. He always was available and responded quickly to all texts and or calls. He made it as simple as possible for an easy move and this was during the pandemic. They had protocols in place which ensured safety for all residents and my mom-in-law. I will do a follow up review in 6 months with more detail once she gets more situated. The staff members at Asbury Court are friendly, approachable, helpful, and above all, extremely patient. My sisters transition to living here has been a most positive experience, beginning with the kind attention given to her from the moment she arrived. Daniel Barrios and his team have been extremely accommodating and accessible, making sure that all the details associated with her move are taken care of, even after normal business hours! The nursing staff members are also kind, professional, and on top of her care... very impressive! The maintenance staff has responded quickly and efficiently to all of our requests, both large and small... I have to give a special shout-out to Erwin, who went above and beyond to assemble a six-drawer platform bed when we were unable to! This has been a stressful time for my family, so I am very grateful for all the wonderful people at Asbury Court who have been so welcoming and supportive, from intake to social services, housekeeping, reception, dining... and any one else Ive forgotten to mention! I received an extraordinary service from team members at Asbury Court yesterday. Daniel Barrios, Germania Pagan and Rhonda Williams went above and beyond assisting the clients that I referred to their senior living program. They expediated the admission process and provided new home for the elderly couple who otherwise would be at risk of homelessness. I am impressed with their professionalism, dedication and compassion that are essential in this industry. The facility is very welcoming and cozy with a fireplace in the hallway. Very much a "family" feel. Rooms and hallways are all updated and nice size. And throughout the whole facility from independent to skilled nursing there are no "bad" smells.

Asbury is a really nice facility. It’s like a one stop shop. They have many living options and lots of areas of entertainment for the residents. Daniel was great with getting my dad into the facility super quick. Daniel was helpful, upfront and honest. So far I have had nothing but great interactions with the staff that I’ve come into contact with. Andre, the maintenance guy was so great to allow us to use a large cart and dolly to move dads stuff in and so far all of the front desk personnel has been very welcoming and kind. It’s not like other places where they just tell you to sign in and go. They are talkative and I’ve watched them be very kind and caring to the residents. Dad just moved in yesterday and I feel he will be very happy once he gets used to everything. The only down falls currently is the long walk for dad to get to elevator and his room and there is no kitchenette in the rooms, however they did give my dad a small refrigerator and microwave. Hopefully after a while dad will get used to the walking. Overall I think this is a great place with great people. Another review to come after we see how dads experience is for a bit.

My brother and I have been looking for the perfect place for our parents. Asbury Court really stood out to us with the amazing renovations that they've made, the beautiful rooms they have to offer, and all the services they provide to support my parents. The staff are all so welcoming and friendly. A very special thank you to Danny Barrios for working with us and going out of his way to make the transition for my parents to Asbury as smooth as possible!

We just moved our uncle in yesterday and couldnt have been more pleased with the ease of the process. Given all hes been through this past week, it made a huge difference. Great thanks to the head of sales, Danny, who jumped right in helping me move furniture and making sure he was as comfortable as possible. Also, Danny moved heaven and earth to get him into a bed on a very shortened schedule. Thank you!

Daniel and the team at Asbury Court have been amazing so far - we are grateful for all of the help they have provided, the support through a difficult transition. We are excited to see what the future holds for my Uncle, but feel confident that he is in a place that where he can have a both community and safety.

Absolutely wonderful! I had an unexpected emergency to find my mother an assisted living/independent living place within a short time. I talked with Daniel B. who was very accommodating and worked with my schedule. He stayed late so we could come in the same day we spoke. We took a tour and I was blown away at everything Asbury had to offer. They have restaurant style meals, a theater room, library, chapel, birds in a beautiful cage, outings to various places, a hair/nail room, and get this, a Starbucks. I mean how cool is that? On top of all that, Asbury is super clean and newly renovated. They knew the residents by name and you could tell the residents were happy because everyone I passed said hello to me with a big smile on their face. It was go for mom to get into Asbury and Daniel came in on his day off so we could get her signed up and moved in. He did all this in under 48 hours. I cannot thank Daniel and the staff at Asbury enough for everything they have done. I have been telling everyone about my great experience with Asbury and will continue to do so.

I just moved in and was overwhelmed by how wonderful the staff is here. I met with Patty & Danny to tour the place and both went above and beyond to make me feel at home here. I didn't have any furniture to move in but before the day was done, they were able to get me a bed, dresser, chair, nightstand and lamps for the room. How awesome are they? Everyone on staff here has been wonderful to me and I am settling in nicely. Thank you all for your outstanding service.
