My wife and I moved to Stroudwater fourteen months ago, at age 85 and 83, after I lost my lower leg due to cancer. My sudden disability made it impossible to remain in our home. We chose Stroudwater Lodge under the guidance of our granddaughter, an M.D. in family medicine. She investigated a number of local places, and Stroudwater topped her list. After visiting here we quickly agreed. We were very positively impressed by the attractive, lodge-like exterior, the friendly staff and residents, and the attractive common spaces and apartments. Our experience since moving in has completely lived up to our first impressions. The staff is upbeat and quick to respond to our needs. Evidence of their spirit is the frequent laughter we hear amongst the serving staff at mealtimes! Residents clearly have bonded with each other in many ways, from travelling together on Lodge-sponsored trips to participating in a full daily schedule of activities, to assisting each other with wheelchairs, walkers, or dropped items. Truly, the sense of community is palpable. A few other details: - I love the wide, paved path that surrounds the building, easily managed by wheelchair. My wife loves the paths that extend beyond Stroudwater, part of the Portland Trails system, that allow her to walk miles each day, largely in natural surroundings. - The food is quite impressive! Lobster has been a menu option twice this week. Some entrees are novel, and there are always several other choices like burgers, BLTs, mac and cheese, etc., if you’re not feeling adventurous. Gluten-free, dairy-free, and/or vegetarian dishes are offered most meals. - Happy Hour, from 4-5 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, is a nice chance to socialize. - The Men’s Group meets bi-weekly to discuss issues like men’s health, menu options and popular books, and to take trips to local museums, etc. - The Climate Group meets periodically to explore environmental and climate change issues. Currently we are encouraging my wife’s elderly brother to join us here, a clear sign of our satisfaction with Stroudwater. Overall, we give Stroudwater Lodge an A.

The family decision to move our Dad to an assisted living community was a very emotional and difficult one. After researching dozens of companies, learning more about the industry, and visiting many communities, we chose The Stroudwater Lodge. From the first visit, feeling like we walked into a ski mountain lodge, the experience has been extremely positive. The activity calendar is full and has something for everyone. The staff are friendly, courteous, and very helpful. They treat the family members as if we were residents. The food is a high point and we often just visit for lunch. The medical regiment is professional and thorough. Dad is improving at a pace beyond imagination and does not require a wheelchair for the first time in 11 months. Stroudwater is a vibrant, fun and welcoming community and has been the perfect fit for our Dad.

The kitchen n food really fantastic, never had a bad meal yet!! Coudous to the chefs!! So many sctivities to participate in never boring!! They even take you out to go to a swimming pool in area. Maybe In Portland! Have walking trails in area also . Nice comfortable sitting area in front from ti watch animals n people walk by!! It’s a really beautiful n comfortable place to be!! Moving our mom out of the home where she and our father raised their four children was one of the hardest decisions our family has ever made. Like many seniors, she wasn’t ready to leave a place filled with so many memories. Choosing Stroudwater Lodge in Westbrook, Maine has been a blessing for our mom and for our entire family. Since moving in, she has made many new friends and genuinely enjoys the community. My siblings and I are so happy our parents chose the Lodge!!! They are 87 and 88 and still very active so can take part in many of the activities. The move, coordinated with the sale of their home, went smoothly thanks to all of the folks on the team. Staff is excellent!!! After visiting one assisted living facility after another every day for more than a week, I met Lea Rust at Stroudwater Lodge and instantly knew it was the right place for my father-in-law. Lea is so down-to-earth and so in touch with the very human side of assistive care. Of course, the facility itself was welcoming and homey, clearly focusing on the personal needs and comfort of residents. My mother lived at Stroudwater Lodge for eight months. During that time she loved the community, the caregivers, and her whole experience there. I remember how warmly she was greeted on day one and how everyone was welcoming. She made friends with others who sat at her dinner table as well as her caregivers. I always felt she was in good hands. The Lodge was always well maintained and I would hear the staff always speak respectfully not just to my mother but to everyone. The staff kept me apprised of any changes and responded to questions promptly. Even when it was time for my mother to move to a nursing facility, the staff at the Lodge made the process easy. I can't say enough good things about my mom's experience here. The facility itself is beautiful... she moved in early winter and I remember driving up thinking it looked like a fancy ski lodge! As soon as you step in you feel the positive energy... music playing, seasonal decorations, flowers, fireplace crackling and lots of people doing different things. It feels ALIVE. The place she had been before felt like a morgue. When my mom was there a few of her neighbors had dogs which was so wonderful to see... sometimes you could hear a resident practicing her saxophone. The dining room and pub are lovely (my mother loved the happy hours!) and they even have a beautiful demo kitchen for classes and demonstrations. There is a movie theater and a gym and salon upstairs... she had her hair done every week. The building has a big patio and backs up to conservation land so it is lush and beautiful with lots of wildlife. The staff in every department is incredible. I felt completely safe and confident that my mother was getting excellent care. I could sleep. I could even go away and not worry. Which is amazing. There are different apartment configurations and my mom had a larger one bedroom with a den which we turned into more of a dining room. The maintenance folks were very responsive and helped us customize her space. My only regret is that she didn't move in sooner. It is such a wonderful community I wish she had been in better shape to take advantage of all the programming and to make some good friends. Still, she loved her apartment and the staff and was so well cared for. I really can't recommend Stroudwater more highly.

My mother relocated from out of state to Stroudwater Lodge within the past year. It was a huge transition and move for her from her home of 60 years to an independent/assisted living community in a different state. From the moment I walked through the doors for the initial tour, I felt the warmth, authenticity and positive energy that permeates throughout Stroudwater Lodge. The buildings and grounds are beautiful, but it is the staff that truly make Stroudwater such a special and loving place. Much to our surprise, my mom has adjusted beautifully and is very happy overall living at the Lodge. The activities are interesting, intellectually and physically stimulating with a variety offered each day. Art, music, exercise classes and so much more keep my mom engaged and busy. She has made some really good friends and has the best of both worlds as to plenty of socialization but also a lovely and comfortable fully equipped apartment to relax in when she wants some downtime. My brothers and I have peace of mind knowing my mom is a part of a caring community that offers so much. Thank you Nicole, Lea, Becca, Paige, Laurie, and all of the wonderful staff at Stroudwater Lodge for everything that you do to make Stroudwater Lodge the special place that it is!!!

It is never easy for someone to give up there independence and it was no different for my mother in law. Without the help of the staff from Stroudwater Lodge we would not have been successful in her transition. When we initially approached the conversation with her we were met with great resistance, but through a partnership with the Stroudwater Lodge team she was able to see the benefit of moving to their facility. Their main concern was that my mother in law felt comfortable with the move and they went above and beyond with visiting her at her home to answer her questions and allowing her to visit the facility and participate in activities so that she would get a better sense of the community she would be moving into. While we struggled to get her there initially she absolutely LOVES it there and is thriving with the social aspect of her daily life. We find it difficult to get in touch with her because she is always out of her room taking part in the social activities and spending time with her new friends. When we visit she continuously speaks about how kind they are to her, how clean the facility is and how thankful she is for having such a wonderful place to live if she can't live in her own home safely. We can not thank them enough for their partnership during a very difficult transition and for being so wonderful to her!

The moment I stepped into Stroudwater Lodge (The Lodge) I knew it was where I wanted my mother to live. The energy is so positive and the staff so kind. One thing I immediately noticed was that they knew all of the residents by name. It's now been almost a year and my mother has blossomed there. She participates in activities such as trivia games, bridge, book club, Stroudwater singers (sing-alongs) and painting. Every time I visit, which is twice a week, she tells me how much she loves in there and that she's got it "made in the shade." I can't recommend The Lodge highly enough.

She has lived here for over a year, and as of this review she still raves about the food, the staff, the activities and overall expresses her absolute happiness. For several years, she had been living alone in a rural setting in Southern Maine. Moving here has allowed her to live her best life. At 74, she is thriving! She is very social and participates in so many activities that she enjoys. It's heartwarming to hear her talk about her day and how fulfilled she is. The staff genuinely care about their residents. At our initial interview, I was asked to share Mum's hobbies, interests, and favorite foods, among other items. When visiting (before appropriate pandemic restrictions had to be implemented), the staff expressed their care, compassion and kindness to Mum and myself. There is a personal vibe to this place that is appreciated and palpable. I sincerely cannot speak highly enough of Stroudwater Lodge. I am grateful to everyone who works there.

Stroudwater Lodge is a beautiful facility with positive and caring staff members. There are many daily and appropriate activities for the residents which keep them engaged at various levels. This is a place where "Everybody Knows Your Name"! I tell my friends that living at Stroudwater is like being on a cruise ship. Meals (3 every day) are served in fine dining fashion, complete with tablecloths, menus, and table service. It has a real elegance and lovely social atmosphere. My Mom had never lived away from her home and was resistant to trying out an assisted living facility. After my brother and I researched, visited and interviewed area senior residences, we thought Stroudwater Lodge would be a good fit for her. I am happy to say that Mom is Thriving! From Day 1 of moving in, my mother became engaged in the daily activities which she absolutely enjoys. Imagine our surprise when we saw the masterpiece she created with water colors! We never knew our Mom had artistic talent! She is up in the morning and does not return to her room until bedtime. Mom enjoys interaction with the residents and staff and, in reciprocal fashion, they enjoy her. Everyone is respectful of one another thus creating a very calm and positive social atmosphere. Family members and friends are welcome to visit at anytime. Her one bedroom apartment is welcoming and there are areas in the Lodge where residents can "entertain" guests. The most important factors are that her medications are administered at the correct times and she is receiving good nutrition. Her care plan is tailored based on her personal needs as well as conversation with family members to find a good fit. There are periodic checkins and whenever I have a concern there is always someone to follow up on her care plan. I have confidence in knowing that her needs are met. For anyone reading this review, I suggest that you take a good look at all of the activities, which are inclusive of the price. Talk to the residents and ask them what they like about The Lodge. I can say that my Mom is enjoying life again. This makes us all very happy. There is no price one can place on this satisfaction.

From the moment you pull into Stroudwater Lodge you get a sense of peace and calm, that feeling continues throughout your entire visit. The staff is professional and genuinely cares about each and every resident. I am in the business of helping to provide retirement security, and Long Term Care Insurance is just one areas in which I focus. I can honestly say that I have personally visited most of the Assisted Living facilities in Southern Maine and Stroudwater is top notch.

Our family feels truly fortunate to have found Stroudwater Lodge. The staff always shows a genuine concern and caring with my mother-in-law. They have several activities that she can enjoy or she just relax in her warm and homey apartment. I'm so pleased that she is there and can feel confident that all of her wants and needs are being taken care of by people who care. My mom has been living at Stroudwater Lodge since February, 2017. I worried about the transition for Mom. An independent woman with specific likes and dislikes, I worried she'd be unhappy. She left her home, friends and a routine in northern Maine which she loved, for quieter, less familiar surroundings. ----------------------------- I worried for nothing.-------------------------------- Mom moved in, familiarized herself with the new surroundings, made friends and is thriving. She misses her home, driving and being independent but realizes Stroudwater Lodge has her back. One day I called her and there was no answer. I called the front desk to check up on her and was told she'd gone out dancing with the girls; an activity provided by the Lodge. She plays bridge, bingo, attends music and entertainment events on a weekly basis. To say she's happy is an understatement. To say I'm relieved is also an understatement. I'm ecstatic beyond words. Thank you Stroudwater Lodge for your caring, coaxing and all around great care.

Our mom found her forever home at Stroudwater Lodge two years ago December when they just opened. From the moment we chose her apartment, everyone on the staff were welcoming, kind and went above and beyond to ensure she was happy. It’s very comforting to know that Mom is being provided for with an environment of pleasant, sunny rooms radiating with warmth and stylish appeal. As you enter the well-appointed atrium area receptionists, Lindee and other receptionists always greet you with a warm and engaging welcome. Chef Jaime and his staff provide nutritious meals served by outstanding attendants. Becca and Elaine keep the activity calendar busy with daily and well thought out activities plus weekly entertainment from local performers. All in-house staff, including maintenance, genuinely care for their residents, and even though Mom doesn’t have an official caregiver, at this point, everyone there is so pleasant and hard working. And we can’t overlook the cleaning crew who maintain Mom’s apartment weekly. These happy staff members are the product of the Director, Courtney who always has outstretched arms and approachable for any issue. When Mom’s contented at this stage in her life, then my brother and I, along with the entire extended family, are at peace knowing that when she lays her head on the pillow her day was full and enjoyable. What more can you want for a parent?
