Updated Review: Our father was a resident at Avamere at Keizer, where he received care across three levels of service over eight years - Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Long-Term Care. As a result our family had the opportunity to observe the facility and its staff over an extended period, and we came away with tremendous respect for the people who provided his day to day care. Caring for the residents with complex medical and emotional needs is work that few people are willing or able to do well. Time and again, we witnessed caregivers whose compassion, patience and genuine empathy went well beyond what was was required, enriching our father's quality of life and giving our family confidence that he was being treated with dignity and kindness. There are certainly areas that deserve improvement but in our experience they generally reflect broader organizational consideration rather than the dedicated staff providing hands on care. The building is clean and generally free of any unpleasant odors, yet it is an older facility where deferred maintenance is noticeable. The food is adequate but reflects the processed convenience quality common in many institutional settings. Despite these shortcomings, the caregivers themselves consistently demonstrated professionalism, warmth and a level of commitment that deserves recognition and appreciation. Comment: My dad is currently residing in avamere assisted living. He receives decent care. The management has always been responsive to any concerns that we have had. I believe that he gets the care that he pays for. This facility is not the most luxurious but it is clean and does not smell. Yes, it would be nice to have the next level up on food. Also, they could keep the hall blinds on an upward tilt to allow in more light. I do periodically see windows open to allow in fresh air and I am very grateful for that attention to detail. My family learned a hard lesson as we had to move our dad here from Bonaventure - yes, it looked nice there but there was no substance of management response or ability to provide care due to significant understaffing. It ended up being a modern facade that cost almost twice the amount and less care than he gets now. Avamere may not be perfect but it has been a solid decision for us. My last review of my father's care was 4 yrs ago. Our family visits my dad at least 4x/wk. The care that I have observed has certainly been reasonable. It is important for all to realize that Assisted Living Care is an Industry. Your Loved one will get a baseline level of care - It is best if the family can supplement the care. A deeper analysis of what is required to take care of an Adult that has cognitive and physical limitations can be more difficult than one may ever imagine. Many do not realize that Assisted Living Centers and many medical/dental models are nowadays actually part of an Investment Portfolio and not privately owned by a church or other caring entity. The CNAs that I have interacted with are generally caring and trying to do their best .... Do they get support from upper mgmnt - (those who are not on site) I doubt it as the corporate model of health care, including hospitals operate their systems to profit the shareholders. Sad truth - That is why our family has made it a priority to facilitate and help with the care of our dad. I have seen a review or two below of employee-s who were very poor in the care/caring component of their roles and noticed 1 star reviews. With our own experience in prior assisted living and the experience of my friends who have been through this experience with their parents I would say that The care at Avamere is certainly within the Industry standard. I hold to the 4 star review which is a "B" in the A-F system of grading

everyone and i mean everyone, from the kitchen staff, PT , ST , providers, cnas, nurses , EVS were absolutely warm , kind , humble , and overall outstanding. They are all wonderful , caring , human beings and not once did i notice them being unkind to any of the residents. PT is absolutely amazing . the kitchen was always so accommodating. also special shout out to yellow cab medical transportation who again phenomenally kind human beings who worked so well with avamere . I recommend avamere keizer!

I am very happy living here. I love my one bedroom apartment. The people here are friendly and like a family. The staff is wonderful and always very helpful. There are so many things to do like shopping trips, movies, several card games, and other types of games. The only negative I have is the food could be improved upon. Other than that, it’s great living here.

Update: Dad has been here 2 years now and has been well cared for. Due to natural decline he has recently moved across the street to Arbor, for a higher level of care. Nice to have so many options in the same location. I really feel like Avamere staff are family. Thank you. Here begins my older post: "The food is good and the people are nice" is what I was told and it was certainly true. This was my dads 2nd round at skilled nursing. Therapy came at regular intervals, which was not our experience at the last place. Highly recommend it. We liked it so much he moved right into the Assisted living on the same campus upon discharge. If you are looking at reviews of facilities, I recommend ignoring negative ones from pandemic era as all these places struggled likewise.

I've lived at Avamere Independent Living now for 3 years. I have to say the transportation here to and from appointments/shopping is well run. I love how all the rooms are basically soundproof and I can have my t.v. as loud as I'd like. I also like the fact that I can walk into the dining room and not have to worry about assigned seating like some places. I love our front desk/reception ladies who are always getting the job done. Everyone here including the residents are all very nice and polite speaking. We also have a very nice dining room and waitstaff. Everyone here is like family. Oh and not to mention I love how we have bingo!

I LOVE the staff here. My mother was moved here and couple months ago and they're very attentive to her. Danyel is an ABSOLUTE delight. Unfortunately, the gal at the front desk is not very pleasant and always seems to be in a bad mood. Everyone else seems to be genuinely happy. I don't know if she just doesn't like her job or what, but I feel if you're going to work in this industry, you need to be personable.

The reviews scared me I'm gonna be honest but this was the only option for my loved one and boy have to been pleasantly surprised. First off the care staff- AMAZING! I have never met a group of care givers as kind and willing to do whatever it takes to make all patients comfort and happy, not one single complaint ( Maggie RN is one of the kindest humans I've ever met) Kitchen- we had some small hiccups due to diet restrictions but the head dietitian has corrected every single concern and quickly! Administrative - they have been incredible as well. Very informative and sympathetic Danielle walked me through it all, I will always appreciate her kindness and willingness to answer my question, if she didn't know an answer she asked. And finally last but not least the true stars of the skilled nursing PT/OT these are the people who work with your loved on to get them strong enough to go home. PHENOMENAL!!! I've watched them work with so many patients and they go above and beyond, they're the kindest, funniest, and make pt/ot fun because we all know this will be the hardest part for anyone who comes here. I will leave a more detailed review once we discharge there are some staff that deserve some extra recognition! Don't let the low stars scare you!

My father is in rehab there now and they are very slow to respond to his needs and one of the attendants told me I should not be vising now because they said it was not a good time at 930 am . Took them well over 30 minutes to respond to the call button for help to the bathroom and to bed. Update we had a meeting today with the director and he was quick to address the issues .

First time I put my trust into Avamere they took great care of my Grandmother. Second time was shocking to hear and see. They did not take care of her hygiene well. She was left in dirty clothes for multiple days and I'm not talking small stains. I had called and was very nice and asked why this was happening and i did not get a call back. Also i was told on multiple occasions she would be helped into the bathroom and then be left in there for 20 minutes or longer, so long that my dad and my uncle had to help her out because no one came back. What the hell Avamere? You charge $12,000 for this type of care? Is that how you want to be treated when you're elderly? Do not go into this type of career field if you cannot act decent and treat people correctly. I cant believe this.

Most of the staff try hard to ensure that this is a safe place for the residents. Many of the staff have worked here for years. The food service has changed recently, and is now much worse. The food is generally served overcooked and cool or cold. They no longer have the wonderful soup and salad bar they used to have at lunch and dinner. I lost weight during my recent stay. Response to residents' call buttons is often slow, as staff often seem overworked - a 20 minute wait is not unusual. Physical therapy staff are generally good. OT staff is ok. Many caring nurses, but a few are subpar. The building really needs a deep cleaning, many repairs, and cosmetic upgrades. Overall, I think this is best nursing home you can find in Salem, but there is definitely room for improvement.

I retired from Senior Living Care. When I came to visit my sister this week I was on the defensive. I was pleasantly surprised at the radiant care of each staff member. I smelled NO offensive odor which is often present in facilities. One staff member said, "The reason I got up this morning was to care for you". My sister said if she could not be home, this is were she wants to be. I am aware of staff challenges and encourage each member to remember: Young people travel in groups Adults travel in pairs Old people walk ALONE.

I am here at Avamere Keizer after having surgery on my leg. Granted, it is an older facility and not a 5 star hotel but the staff are all 5 star in my book. I am grateful that I have the special care I am getting here.

Avamere is the best!! Becky was so helpful with placing my 93 y.o. Mother! It was a difficult decision. But it has proved to be the best one ever for mom!! She loves it!! Lies the care givers and the food. She is so “busy” with activities and friends she forgets to call!! The staff is very good and very kind and patient with her. I would recommend Avamere to anyone needing care for their loved one!!

I was at Avamere after a surgery. Most staff were kind and caring. Response time to call button ranged from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Facility was noisy-I was by the delivery entrance and shared a wall with the utility room where a large engine would start and run randomly. Food was cold most of the time, I was the last room on the hall many times my food order was wrong and the reply I got was- sorry the kitchen is closed we can't fix it. The toliet and shower in my room were both broken for all but the last day I was there.
