This review is for the Physical Therapy office located in the South Physicians Tower in Suite 410. ‘ Unfortunately, I suffered a complete tear of my Quadriceps Tendon back on January 4th. After an MRI on January 8th, surgery took place on February 5th in part to a delay in getting the information back to my PCP and my orthopedic surgeon's schedule. Had everything went smooth, surgery would have been done in January. Physical Therapy began on March 10th with Soho. This man is like that! His knowledge, his experience, his concern and his approach are all top tier! I also worked with Kim (once), Adam and Jessica. They were all nice with it but Soho was my guy! He helped me get my leg back from barely being able to move my leg at all doing heel slides or the knee flexion exercises to now being able to go back to work next week! My last session was on July 30th. The office staff were all very nice and professional! Bottom line is that every one in that office cares about the people that come through there for Physical Therapy! Again, shout out to Soho! Thank you for being in place for me and my journey from no mobility to limited mobility to having my leg back with range of motion and good strength! The man even gave me some exercises specifically geared towards continuing the work of regaining my strength on my own on my last day! If you are in need of physical therapy, the people over here can help you with that! Check them out! You won't be disappointed!

The OC, speech, and physical therapists were highly professional, courteous, and compassionate. I can't say that for the majority of the medical staff on the third floor, east. A few nurses were interested in me, most were evasive, dismissive or invisible when I need them. I was left with poop in my panties after a tech took me to the toilet on the first day. I was disrespected and dismissed as not worthy of much attention often. On the second day my husband toured the UM rehap center in Bowie and wanted to pull me from URH. The doctors were short and arrogant to my husband, yet courteous. In the discharge papers, they suggested I needed psychological help. I think they did.

I scheduled an appointment to discuss conservative approaches for managing my significant scoliosis as I age. Unfortunately, the physician I saw appeared to have very limited knowledge, if any, of the condition. I was diagnosed over 50 years ago, have been seen by numerous orthopedists over the years, and actively keep up with the latest research. This physician’s statements contradicted guidance I have consistently received from the orthopedic specialists, and the management approach she recommended has no basis in the research literature. A more appropriate response would have been for her to acknowledge that this is not her specialty area and provide a referral to a physician with the necessary expertise. The scheduling staff were excellent, however. They re-scheduled me with a doctor who has experience with scoliosis.

Recently, I completed physical therapy (PT) after my second total knee replacement (TKR); Randy was my PT. He is a seasoned therapist with a great deal of experience treating patients with a range of diagnoses, especially TKRs. I was very fortunate to have had Randy as my therapist for both TKRs. The continuity of care really helped my recovery. Randy led me through a well-defined program of stretching and strengthening exercises, gait and balance activities, and endurance training. He provided consistent instructions and the rationale for activities in the clinic, and at home. For a few days during my treatment program, Randy was not available, and Dorota provided my care. She asked thoughtful questions to ensure effective continuity of care. Dorota is another excellent PT, with a great deal of experience in a wide range of diagnoses. I am grateful to NRH Rehabilitation / MedStar Health for the high quality of PT services. The therapists and clinical assistants make a great team, and they have helped me achieve my functional goals.

On 03/08, I started having physiotherapist sessions with Yami Nolasco to help me rehabilitate following the placement of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt in my brain to reduce the amount of fluids in it. During the time that I have been working with Yami, she demonstrated a very good professionalism. Prior to my first appointment, she reviewed my file to better understand my health situation and the best exercises for me. She is always on time for my consultation. When providing the sessions, she focuses exclusively on my needs (she does not get distracted with the digital devices). At the end of the session, she started planning what activities we will do during the next session. The exercises that she has provided have assisted me in improving my balance and walking. I am very pleased with Yami Nolasco’s service.

The nurses, the therapists, and staff were outstanding. I was admitted from GU hospital last August, and I’m so grateful I was was sent here. Apparently I wasn’t even supposed to be accepted because at the time I couldn’t even speak, swallow or had any type of mobility. Mann, the therapists worked my butt off, sweat and tears I tell you! I Thank God they did, because had they had babied me and let me stay in in bed, I wouldn’t have recovered so quickly. The nurses too, so encouraging, and by most of them being women, they treated me like their own daughter. I’d cry to them sometimes sofrustrated with the hand I got dealt but they were there for me and would even cry with me. Shout out to the kitchen staff because the food was bomb! Idk about all the talk about hospital food being bad, but NRH had me biting my lip it was soo good. I felt like royalty having them take my food order everyday. The midnight snack tuna sandwiches and Graham crackers hit the spot too! Shout out to nurse Annemarie, Julia, Marie, fallogot, Patricia, Denise, Joy, everyone else whose name I can’t remember, thank you ladies for taking care of me! Shout out to my therapist Jeniffer Vance- for making my days fun with the baking and games, Alison Cuneo- I didn’t know my capabilities and you pushed me to the bone, Lauren russel- for helping me drop it low again lol, sierra- my speech therapist- thank you for making my Brain work hard again. Thank you all so much for encouraging me and helping me recover. I know this is long but I feel like hospital staff don’t get the credit or recognition they deserve. You have to really love what you do in that field, and I could tell by how much they helped me that the people who work there genuinely care for others. Thank you NRH!

See update below: Unfortunately, I am even more dissatisfied with NRH after dealing with their billing practices almost six months after our loved one was discharged. For months, they (Medstar) billed us for $2178.00 for three particular doctors’ charges BEFORE Medstar submitted them to insurance. The bills even threatened collection. We incurred those charges in late February, but Medstar didn’t submit them (finally, after my phone calls) to insurance until August! And then, we owed only $158. Families who need NRH’s help are under huge stresses and don’t need these sloppy,, thoughtless billing practices compounding their struggles. ””””””””””””””””””””””- After our family member’s admission to NRH because of a massive, paralyzing stroke, we found the therapists to be first-rate. NRH’s excellence, however, ended there. Communication to and with the family from some of the doctors and the case manager was seriously lacking ” we found them to be generally unavailable, distant, lacking compassion, or, at times, even hostile. They might blame our perceptions on the system, i.e., Medicare, but I think our negative experience was compounded by NRH’s general lack of good communication systems and practices and certain individuals’ lack of basic human kindness and empathy. It’s how [they] treat people, and NRH needs to improve the way they treat people.

I cannot say enough about the services provided by MedStar Rehabilitation Hospital! I was a little hesitant at first to commence my therapy sessions. However, after going through the process, I am confident my recovery progressed better than expected as a result. I would recommend and encourage anyone needing rehabilitation to seek MedStar services. I was in a serious car accident and necessitated Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy sessions. I did not want to attend therapy but my wife was insistent. She performed an exhaustive search in the DC Metro Area on facilities providing such services and ended up selecting MedStar due to its reputation and reviews. I reluctantly agreed to attend all three sessions. I had no idea how beneficial attending therapy sessions would be. I immediately felt as if the therapists listened to what I had to say, asked questions to understand my rehabilitation situation, and crafted sessions on a weekly basis based on my specific needs. I can’t say enough about all three therapists: Speech Therapy “ Alyssa, Occupational Therapy - Anjali/Sam, and Physical Therapy “ Aliana. They were all fantastic and definitely provided the service level MedStar is known for. Joey

To all at NRH, I arrived at NRH April 12, 2023 around 6pm from Medstar. On Friday I met with my PT/OT team PT team was Bronwyn, OT was Anna and Gina, they listened to my goals which was to do everything possible for me to walk the three steps into my house from the garage. I was able to do this with help but the goal never changed. Each person who crossed the threshold into my room, which was 210 was dedicated to me for as long as they were in there, Nurses, Fudie, Maddie, Obie, Baba, Zach, Alex, Nurses Aids; Philly, Christina, Zuri just to name a few. I tried to learn something about each nurse and tech, they all made me feel special because each person on Dr Simlote staff is important. So the bottom line is this, each person who came in was dedicated to me, they listened and of course the only way to succeed was to DO EVERYTHING THEY ASKED YOU TO DO. I was here for three months because I had to take speech therapy. was not in the best condition when I arrived in January 2023. Patty was the best. She is a patient person who knows how to push you just enough so that you improve over time. The mental exercises she gave really got your thinking and making progress without even knowing it.
