When I was looking for a place to live I had the following criteria, 1 The nursing home had to be close to my kids and my grandson. 2 The nursing home had to be close to a hospital. 3 I was looking for a busy place So I always felt there would be people around. 4 I was looking for a Modern facility. 5 The nursing home had to have access to shuttle service. 6 I had to feel comfortable with the doctors on staff, 7 The facility had to be smoke free. 8 My current pastor had to be close by. Benedictine living community in Owatonna met that criteria and that's why I chose to be a resident here. Currently, I Have been a resident for about two and a half years. and I am 61 years old Dealing with multiple sclerosis. In order for me to find solace here. I had to Learn to cope with these realities. You must be willing to accept that the Residents are not the number one priority. You must be willing to accept that there are no internal standards or operating procedures that are accessible for staff or residents For reference. You must be willing to accept that there is no leadership ensuring execution of tasks. You must be willing to accept When you bring up a concern. they label you as a behavior problem You must be willing to accept there are no accountability Or follow up systems For staff. You must be willing to accept hearing excuses for every shortcoming you experience. You must be willing to accept they constantly short staff leaving the residents neglected. You must be willing to accept the employees are constantly fighting with themselves. You must be willing to accept improper care from some employees is tolerated and undisciplined. You must be willing to accept this workplace is the gossip capital of the world. You must be willing to accept there is no continuity of care. [Meaning Having the same caregivers]. You must be willing to accept retaliation from some of the staff. You must be willing to accept empty promises from some staff members You must be willing to accept courteous Responsive care is not a focus. You must be willing to accept Proper Administration of your medication is inconsistent . You must be willing to accept seeing other residents being neglected You must be willing to accept personal priorities of sone staff will always take precedence over call lights. I want to be clear., these are some of my experiences. and other Residents may feel completely different. They do have a well cared for facility. They do have a wonderful therapy department. They do have a wonderful activities. department. There seems to be a lot of good people working here. All in all I rate my experience here 5 out of 10.

It's during these chilly months that we often realize just how much care our cherished family members truly need—care that we, no matter how well-intentioned, can't always provide ourselves. Many of us tend to put off exploring senior care and living options until after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. But what I discovered at Benedictine was truly heartwarming. Visiting during this festive season can bring immeasurable joy to our beloved seniors. The entire community was adorned with beautiful decorations, from the large Christmas tree in the foyer to the cozy common areas. It was a sight to behold, and the smiles on the residents' faces told a story of their own—a story of warmth, comfort, and togetherness. Very friendly staff but it seemed as though the facility lacks enough employees to care for low functioning people at the level I have seen in other nursing homes. The food is commercial cafeteria quality for the most part and anyone who can't feed themselves gets to sit at the table and stare at their plate until staff gets around to them. It doesn't inspire much confidence to know that caregivers are constantly moving from one client to the next just barely keeping up, however, I would say that Koda is better than 2 of the 3 nursing homes my family has lived in over the past several years.

I may be bit biased, as my mother has worked for Koda/Cedarview for over 25 years, but through out my years of interacting with the staff at both facilities, I've had nothing but good experiences. I've met some very caring people, that take alot of pride in their work.
