As I walked into Oakland Healthcare every single person who I saw made me feel welcomed. People did not just smile they would say hello and say have a good day. I was blown away. I have been in many skilled nursing/ sub acute care communities and I have never experienced such a warm feeling as I walked the halls. The place was bright and tastefully decorated. Now, the only cons I would say is the large outdoor patio had no tables, no chairs , no umbrellas, no plants. It could use all those things and a water feature would make this place perfect. I have been around these communities all my life. My Mother was an administrator for a few in her career, so I have seen many places from behind the scenes. This place is a gem!

I went to visit my mom and wasn't too pleased. The phone in her room wasn't working and they didn't know....well, she's been there a week. That's something that should be checked before EVERY new patient/resident comes in. Also, her water container was damn near empty and it's been hot these last few days. Also no one came to the room to 'check' on the residents, my mom nor her roommate, the whole time we were there and we were there an hr. This was just my first visit so hopefully this was just a fluke”

The folks have always been courteous and professional. Whether they are at the receptionist's desk or just walking down the correct they usually greet you with a smile. If you seem lost, they offer you assistance. There is no foul smells as in other similar places. I was glad that we could have our brother there for his time of recovery.

When my mom was first admitted, Stephen was very helpful and sympathetic. Seemed anxious to help me with my mom. It was all an act. My moms name came up on the waitlist for permanent placement. All I needed was a firm that Stephen said he was familiar with filled out. He assured me he had faxed it over multiple time's until oast the deadline when he admitted he lost the forms. Which resulted in my mom's name being moved back to the bottom of the waitlist. My sister and I have both visited and say roaches. One was on my mother's arm. Her toenails hadn't been cut in months. They were long as my fingers. This place is obviously just out for money without providing proper care. I do not recommend.

OHWC is one of the best facilities in the Bay Area. They have competent and caring staff that truly care about the patients. I noticed they are working on the interior and it looks modern and clean. You can tell the staff they take pride in what they do. Highly recommend.

It was a nice tour we had over the weekend. I’m looking forward to getting a private room for my dad. Staff was friendly and nice. I’m glad my dads insurance qualify him to stay here.

My grandmother was here for her end of life living. They were very nice to that old Portuguese lady. The food left something to be desired but the staff treated her well. They had a healthy mix of rehab and end of life care so the place always had tomorrow in mind. Not fancy, but dignity and civility was s standard.

My friend has been a resident here for almost 5 years. Over this time, I have visited her quite often. The staff has taken good care of her. The Activities Director (Maria Elena) is a GEM. The RN named 'Allison' keeps an eye on her.

It's somewhat unfortunate... Because the staff seem mostly friendly, but I have to question their competency level and professionalism. Late at night, on multiple occasions, the staff play in the halls and run into resident's rooms and have woken my dad up on several occasions.

If you or your loved one needs nursing home care or a rehab stay while recovering from surgery or illness, you can tell from my rating what my overall recommendation would be. As with any facility, take a tour first. Don’t stay at this facility (or any) after only speaking to marketing or admissions staff. Visit in person and insist on seeing more than the lobby, which is nicely decorated and comfortable. I stayed at this facility as I was recovering from a neurological illness. If you must stay here, make sure your room is either close to the nursing station or on the wing close to the therapy gym. Do not take a room close to the kitchen. The 4-person rooms close to the kitchen and the common restroom in the hallway are drastically different than the 2-person rooms with the restroom within the room in other parts of the facility. Physical, occupational and speech therapies are available. Therapists and therapy aides are proficient, encouraging and friendly. However, those with illnesses or disabilities that cause a sensitivity to noise might find the gym a challenging place when there are several people having therapy sessions. The gym is small and can get very noisy. Finally, if you stay here during warm weather, take advantage of sunny nursing home patios and convenient proximity to restaurants and Starbucks.
