Eleven months ago, Manzano del Sol was purchased by Pure Health. When ownership changed, we were told there would be few, if any, changes made. Most aspects have remained the same; the changes have been improvements Our staff are all so accommodating, gracious and willing to do whatever is asked of them. New staff are hard to miss .Their enthusiasm and new ideas are contagious. Probably the three biggest staff changes are quite evident by the improvement in 1) the food which now includes FRESH fruit and vegetables availability every day, the use of local recipes , and a new chef who is always says “we will try that” and does AND always has after dinner mints on the white tablecloths! Thanks Dominic!!! 2) the new and improved activities offered. Christine has facilitated things that were never offered in the past years I have lived here; every month a couple of new arts & craft projects, bus excursions to new places ie: The Wheel Museum, all day trip to Santa Fe, a walk through old town. 3) Crystal in wellness is so vivacious and exciting. She and Christine are working together with activities - brain games, new movement courses and EVERYONE was blown away by the carnival that took up the whole garden games with prizes, a dunk tank, food, music and decorations galore – wow! And as of yesterday, we are being renovated. This building has never been the most modern. Residents live here because they do not care about chandeliers or big glass windows or reserved dining spaces We are here because Manzano del Sol has a reputation for inclusivity, friendly staff and neighbors. We have the BEST garden in Albuquerque, access to year round swimming pool, transportation costs built into the rent. But of course, not all is perfect. Since the takeover we have not had reliable internet in the building. Pure Health has attempted to install several different sources, 4 or 5 without success. About 6 weeks ago our administrator (Abby) declared that this problem would be solved by current employees, some of whom have been here 10 years, Mark, Brian, Adrian and I am sure many more have worked almost around the clock to undo what was done by Pure Health’s attempts. The independent contractor who did this work for years is now on board, but until Pure Health gives him access to all that he needs –we wait. More than one employee has voiced concern about paychecks as some of the problems have come from Pure Health not paying vendors. Please come to take a tour – bet you’ll be moving in quickly! And we will be glad you are here.

I moved into Manzano del Sol just a few months ago. I am really liking being here! My neighbors are friendly and helpful. The staff too has been very accommodating, helping to set up internet and printers and doing whatever is needed to make my entry into this place easy. I like the location in the city - fairly close to the freeways, and an intersection that allows easy access to the rest of the city and neighborhood. A supermarket and hardware store are just around the corner, and you can easily walk to them too. The apartments and rooms are a decent size, with nice light, and in my case, a view to the magnificent mountain to the east. There is an amazing collection of interesting people in the building and down the hall with remarkable life stories if you ask. I like having a covered parking space. I use the exercise room frequently and having access to a hot tub and indoor pool. Everyone just seems to be so caring and friendly, all the staff, from the maintenance people, the front desk, the dining room, to the office staff. Many of them have worked here for years, which speaks well of how they are treated - and so they treat us residents with great kindness and respect. I am still enjoying independent living, but I am also investing in a future that will be filled with my new friends and familiar surroundings when I am less out in the world. Moving from Washington DC and big city life, this was a nice transition. Get over your reluctance - and get on the list to move in! Do something that will bring you pleasure and peace of mind for years to come! Michael G.

When I moved to Manzano del Sol, I instantly knew I had joined a community of caring staff and residents. My apartment is specious and well maintained. It has an ample kitchen so I can prepare most of my own meals. I don't know of any other senior living facility in Albuquerque where the cost of meals is optional. I am impressed by the longevity of so many of the staff, which tells me that they feel valued. I have many opportunities to participate in wellness programs to enable me to maintain my health and the activities director plans a menu of varied activities that we can participate in. I feel that I am home.

Manzano del Sol has been my home for the last year and a half. I initially came for the indoor pool and water aerobics. But there is so much more to recommend the community. The staff are efficient as well as caring. From the housekeepers to the dining room staff, everyone wants to help. The activities keep me busy with trips to the bank, grocery stores and restaurants. The wellness program includes a cardio room, field trips involving walking or hiking, and classes in meditation and tai chi. Transportation gets me to doctor's appointments. Friendships with other residents keep me connected with new friends. If you are a game player, especially bridge you have to come here.

One of the best decisions I have ever made was to move into an apartment in Manzano del Sol. From the amazing care given to residents before, during and after the COVID pandemic, my experience has been a long series of positive advantages. My mother decided very recently to move into Independent Living. She knew immediately upon walking into Manzano del Sol that it was the place for her. The residents and the staff were all happy and welcoming. A lovely apartment became available shortly thereafter. Vera Schaeffer did an outstanding job helping our family negotiate an out-of-state move on a very rapid timeline. We spoke on the phone multiple times and always got clear and helpful assistance. Mom has now lived there several weeks and is very happy with her choice. The staff continue to be warm, helpful, and caring. The other residents have made wonderful efforts to welcome my mother to her new home. This has been an excellent experience!

Our mother has lived at Good Samaritan for close to 8 years. Recently, we decided to move her to another facility as she has demonstrated a need for more care; however, we quickly discovered we had made a significant error. The Good Samaritan staff has always been loving, caring & friendly. We are grateful that they were so helpful. Good Samaritan home care has also been helpful with providing more daily care.

My wife and I have lived here for more than 8 years and we're very glad we chose to move here in our late 60s. The residence is comfortable and home-like not flashy and slick. The maintenance crew is very responsive and helpful even for minor stuff like replacing burned out light bulbs. The resident services staff and activities folks are proactive and helpful. Other residents are friendly and courteous. The relationships between residents and staff are friendly, caring, and feels like family.

I have been here for 2 1/2 years and feel so privileged to be-in such a great place. The staff especially and the ,residents are friendly, caring and go that extra step to make you feel welcome, loved and at home . There have been activities, entertainment and exercise, ...transportation if needed . The special days are celebrated and wonderful food provided for them. I'm happy with my apartment, any problems have been taken care of at once. I am able to look out on the garden and walk on the path during good weather. My children also feel welcome to visit and it's good we can go to the dining room or fix something to eat in the apartment's full kitchen. At almost age 96 I can't imagine a better place fo be. We had to unexpectedly move my dad here in 2022, and we have felt supported every step of the way. Manzano del Sol truly is a village where you feel a sense of caring and connection the moment you walk in the door. They are about people instead of profit, and community is at the center of their work. Their apartments are sunny, the halls are filled with art, the activities are fun and interesting, and the courtyard is magical. Manzano del Sol feels like the home we all want for our parents.

My mother lived at Manzano for nine years - the majority in independent living with a brief stint in the skilled nursing facility. The experience was overwhelmingly positive. Her apartment was just the right size for her. Mom had numerous friends here. There were multiple activities accessible. Food was decent throughout her stay. The administrative staff [Vera Schaffer and Mark Salcido were particularly attentive] were available, easy to contact, and ready to assist with any issues/problems. Facilities were safe [night security guard, front entrance check in required, etc.] and kept very clean. Pricing was reasonable. I highly recommend you check Manzano out if you are looking for an independent living solution for a senior.

I came to MDS for rehabilitation following hip replacement surgery. I found the staff, from the cleaners through the administration, to be well-trained, courteous, and caring. My calls for assistance were promptly answered. The food was nutritious and attractive, with alternative choices available and tasty. The nursing staff were skilled, concerned, and responsive to my questions and concerns and proactive in keeping me comfortable. The therapists visited me daily, helped me recover my walking ability, and offered support and advice in the well-equipped fitness center as well as my room. This is a well-run, efficient, and friendly facility that should get TEN stars.

My mom, who will be 92 next month, thrived at Manzano del Sol during her nearly one-month stay in the short-term skilled nursing ward. The nursing staff and certified nursing assistants were outstanding, and the physical and occupational therapists are second to none - they did a miraculous job of helping my mother regain her mobility! Heather and Gina in social services also deserve a special shout-out - they are very approachable, concerned, compassionate and professional. They welcomed my questions and concerns and made the discharge process a breeze. The facility has a very pretty rose garden, a small fish pond and two ancient tortoises that roam around looking for edible flowers. The most important thing of all is that I knew my mother was safe and well-cared for at Manzano del Sol at all times.

I was cared for by the wonderful people at this lovely place for three weeks. From housekeeping, laundry, to everyone in the kitchen, to the CNAs, the nurses, the scheduler, everyone in transport, the LTC, SNF, SSD, SSC, the therapists, the activities director, and the chaplain, regardless of their position went above and beyond to keep me safe and to help me recover. Words cannot even begin to express what their kindness and generosity of spirit did for me.

My Mother moved into Manzano in 2018. Since day 1 of her moving in, she and my entire family have been happy with that decision. Staff and residents alike are all genuinely happy and friendly! The wonderful activities taking place on a regular basis have slowed because of COVID, but staff still arranges COVID safe events for their residents. They recently organized a COVID vaccination event, to take place in their dining hall. My Mother had been very anxious about receiving the vaccine. The day she received the vaccine, she called to tell me how well organized the event was and that she very happy to have participated. I live out of town, so am not able to visit as often as I would like, but my Mother is amazingly happy and upbeat every time I talk to her, and I give credit to the Manzano staff for her positive attitude. Thank you, Manzano!!

The nurses, social workers, care staff and doctors are wonderful at Manzano del Sol Village. They are very helpful, keep families updated, and put the residents first. I have been an employee of The Good Samaritan Society Manzano del Sol for over four years, and I'm blessed to say that it is in the top two organizations that I have worked for in my 40 year career. Management and staff are warm, friendly and centered on one mission: to serve the residents and patients in our care. Many of the staff members have been here 10, 15, 20 years or more, and I think it speaks highly of an organization that can retain it's people that well. The residents are a delight and serving them gives meaning to my life and career. Working with the senior population certainly has it's challenges - especially during the hardships that the pandemic presents, however having a supportive, cohesive team in place makes such a difference. Manzano del Sol is not Shangri-La.... every place has its struggles and problems, and we are no different. I guess that's why they call it "work". If you have to work somewhere, you should work here. I know that I love working here and wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

My mom loves this place and lives in independent living. The staff is friendly and caring. I live out of town and know she is being well looked after. Unfortunately COVID stopped the socialization activities and most of her complaints are due to lack of socialization. She is looking forward to getting her vaccine and begin socializing again. Mansano del Sol Nursing Care Facility is a Special NURSING HOME. Quality of Care is foremost for the Saff. My Mother has received excellent Care. What I admire most is how the Staff works together as a team...from the Adminitration to Janitorial. There is no other Place in this State that could do a better Job of Care for my Mom. My wife and I had been trying to get her parents to move here from out of state for some time. Last summer I researched a number of CCRC and found Manzano del Sol (MdS) to be VERY attractive, not only from the facility and services provided, but the flexibility and customizable fee structure. We put their name on the waiting list for an apartment in the independent living section and they came to the top of the list in just 3 months! The moved here from out of state in January and moved into MdS late that month. Health issues (unrelated to MdS) forced us to move them in with us in mid-February. Shortly after that we availed ourselves of the rehab facility for a brief post-hospitalization recovery period. Shortly before release from re-hab, the whole COVID-19 lockdown hit. We moved the family member back with us until early July. By then the whole family was convinced they were once again strong enough and MdS practices were safe enough to protect from COVID-19 intrusion. So they once again took up residence at MdS in early July. During this whole process the MdS staff and all the residents have been very helpful, cheerful, and accommodating. This seems to be a very resident focused facility, at very reasonable rates. My in-laws are very appreciative of the very flexible meal program that can be tailored on a daily and individual meal basis. Mom is beginning to cook meals again but appreciates time (or meals) off periodically. The companion organization Heritage Home Health Care is also a great and affordable organization as well. All in all, I think choosing MdS was an excellent choice for us.

The staff, residents, family and friends are collectively fantastic people to collaborate with. To be apart of so many lives is endearing and enriching as it is rewarding. It is a shear pleasure to be apart of this community. As a representative of the Recreational Department, we actively engage the residents with ADL venues (i.e. live music, games, outings, iPad one-on-ones, movie matinees etc.) and promote peer and familial engagement participation through arts, crafts, cooking, holiday venues and more. I would be remised if I did not invite you to the Good Samaritan Society Community too volunteer and celebrate with the Recreational Department, so you can engage our wonderful residents and staff. I cordially invite you to fulfill our volunteer package and participate in many life rewarding experiences and engagements that are deeply appreciated by the residents and staff. I recommend this volunteerism to yield humanitarianism (i.e. musicians, artists, students, culinary artists, entertainers etc.) are welcomed and encouraged to share their gifts with this senior population. I advocate sincerely for my love of the residents, families, friends, staff and the society as a whole. "Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. A close family member had a 6 week stay on the Skilled Nursing Unit side. Because of Covid, family was unable to visit. Altho, at one point we were able to visit thru his window on ground floor for a couple of days before he was reassigned to another room. He was in quarantine in his room for 2 weeks (facility policy) before being moved to the "open" side of the unit. I rate the therapy team with 5 stars as they were caring, professional and worked diligently with his deficits. Food was terrible. Personal care and attentiveness to detail - lacking at times. On discharge, several personal items could not be located. We were sent home with clothing that belonged to other patients/residents. With the exception of management/ancillary staff - communication with floor staff/doctors was almost non-existent - no one answering the phones. Voicemail messages with a request to return call went ignored. The DON, social worker assistants and case manager took care of business efficiently, always accommodating to our many requests and questions. Much appreciated their efforts. In non-covid times, when families can be present, your experience may be different. We are thankful that the facility had no positive cases during his admission. Excellent monitoring system in place.

I have a niece who is a hospice nurse. When we were looking for a nursing home for my uncle she said Manzano was the best in Albuquerque. He became a resident in 2009 and I became a volunteer there shortly there after. He passed away in 2011, and I'm still doing my volunteer work there because I thoroughly enjoy the residents and staff. At one point I asked my uncle how he like Manzano and he replied, " It's great! You should get a room." I too highly recommend Manzano Del Sol.

Some would go out of their way to say hello to my husband and chat with him, even if they were working in another area for their shift. They made him laugh and provided excellent care. The staff at Manzano truly care about their residents!

Exceptional Staff, caring & knowledgeable. Clean, plus the rooms are bright. Vince goes out of his way to help & make sure patients every needs are met. Social Workers, & All departments are outstanding. Best faculty in the State.

My parents moved to Manzano del Sol, independent living, in April of 2012, what a blessing to have found this wonderful facility. Over the past 5 years due to health issues they moved to the Health Care Facility into long-term care. I can't say enough good things about the caring and loving staff at all levels. The quality of care and the genuine feeling of love given to my parents made their last days comfortable and stress free. Lisa Merinar the Administrator is to be commended for her leadership and true compassion for all residence of Manzano del Sol. I will miss these wonderful people who I became friends with.

This place is amazing and so are the people who work here. They responded to all of my sister's needs and she never had to wait long after ringing the bell for assistance. Everyone is friendly and genuine. I can't say enough about the professional manner that everyone exhibited. You can walk in randomly as I did and I always found someone there helping her with something including providing snacks in the middle of the night. This is what care is suppose to look like when FAMILY is not around.

One of the best places I have seen. I have several friends here and would definitely choose this as my retirement place once I need it. The Wellness Center is excellent and they offer memberships to the general public too!
