If you are an active older adult looking for a warm community, a safe environment, lovely clean accommodations, lots of chances to socialize, tasty and varied meal options, and access to transportation options that free you from depending on a car, then you might consider Flushing House. I have been a resident for a few months now and I highly recommend it. The location is extraordinary. It is on a quiet street, but two blocks from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing with its many stores and transportation options. Manhattan is an easy commute, just a 5-minute walk to the LIRR station and then a 15-minute ride to Penn Station or Grand Central. I work part-time in Manhattan, and I've never had an easier commute to my job! Queens College, with its dramatic and musical offerings, is a quick ride on a nearby bus. Flushing Town Hall with its stellar jazz program is four blocks away. Flushing Library is also an easy walk, as is Macy’s and a great pizzeria, if that interests you. Here at Flushing House itself, there are many stimulating offerings “ book club, language clubs, exercise programs, both domestic and foreign movies, and a lovely rooftop atrium that is open 24 hours a day. There are many food options at each meal and, once you realize all the choices you have ( on and off the menu) you can always find something you like. One can pick up meals and take them back to one’s apartment, but the communal dining room has been a way for me to meet other residents and make the acquaintance of some lovely people. The staff is kind, hardworking and understanding with residents (even the cranky ones!). My apartment is sunny, clean, and comfortable, and weekly housekeeping is included. If you are an active older adult wondering what the next step in life should be, come to one of the frequent open houses that Flushing House hosts and see for yourself. You may find, as I did, that it is a lovely place in a great location with a price that is very reasonable considering all that is included.

After researching a number of facilities for a close friend, I called Flushing House. I had the good fortune to speak, a number of times, with a woman named Marlo. She was incredibly helpful, informative and her assistance in maneuvering through the process was invaluable. We we disappointed that she was off on Denise's move in day - until we met Kristin! Just like Marlo, she was stellar. Helpful, caring and welcoming, we were immediately put at ease. In fact, every staff member we encountered went out of their way to offer their help. I don't know your secret in attracting such high caliber people but the effect is that your residents can experience something they thought they had lost, a sense of family. Thank you! My 87 year old father in law has been slowing down in recent years, though he still has the desire to live independently. After an extensive search of facilities, Flushing House has been a homecoming for him. Their apartments are in great shape and very comfortable, their meals are delicious with a varied, nutritious menu, their library, gym, screening room and activity calendar offer variety. Most of all, the staff are incredible. Everyone there is so kind, knowledgable and willing to go above and beyond. In every interaction, the people who work there have done their utmost to help us navigate this transition. Since moving in 6 months ago, his health and mood have improved considerably. We couldn't be more grateful to have found a place for him at Flushing House.

Have been impressed with Flushing House since the first "tour." The accommodations are clean and comfortable. In addition, the monthly calendar is packed with a variety of activities. All amenities are under one roof and convenient for every resident. The meals are good and the wait staff are very pleasant, as is the case for all who work at Flushing House.

My 92-year-old father moved into Flushing House last fall. He's adjusted quite well--enjoying the meals, kind staff, and companionship of the other residents. The only minor concern I have is around some maintenance issues, which I'm sure will be addressed. I haven't seen anyplace I'd rather have my father live than Flushing House.

My 90 year old mother moved to the Flushing House a year ago, in July of 2023. The move dramatically improved her quality of life and I am convinced the transition will ultimately extend years to her lifespan! Her children no longer worry daily how she is managing and if she is OK. She could no longer carry food home from the grocery store in her neighborhood or lift objects with any weight. Flushing House literally saved her life. She eats three fabulous, fresh meals each day in the dining room, has people around her every day to interact with, has someone to help clean her studio apartment weekly, thoroughly enjoys daily exercise classes, weekly computer classes, lectures, movies and games. The staff is exceptional. They care, want to support in anyway they can in creating a high quality of life, and are always available. They help when she is sick, when she needs a notary, when she needs to send an email, hang a picture, when something is not working well in her studio. She loves the parties, wonderfully decorated (Chinese New Year, Holidays) and often with live music, and dancing. Without hesitation, Flushing House has made significant improvement to my mother's life and to mine! THANKS FLUSHING HOUSE!

Nice clean place, exceptional staff and a range of activities available. Between an improved diet, socializing and regular in house PT/primary care visits my father's condition is improving and his spirits are great.

The room was very clean and tidy, and the facilities were also spotless. The landlady was very kind; when we checked in, we casually mentioned that there was no mirror in the room, which was inconvenient for wearing contact lenses, and the very next day she specially bought a mirror”it was truly thoughtful. She promptly resolved any issues for her guests. We are very grateful for the landlady's care, and her place will definitely be our first choice next time we visit Flushing.
