This facility is beautiful. They have activities on the other floors but the 4th floor gets next to nothing. We experienced in adequate attention, care, hygiene care, laundry issues, and problems with Nursing care on their 4th floor in our Mom’s care there. She was there 1 year and 8 months. Staff left her lay in bed on 14/ out of 15 of my last visits there. I had to call in an Ombudsman and the State multiple times. So much of the time, staff on the 4th floor left our Mother in bed for breakfast. I took a recording of me asking the Nurse if she ate breakfast. She said staff did not wake my Mother up to feed her. I asked if they held her back a plate of food to serve her in an hour whenever she woke up? They said they never put back a plate of food for her. I asked if they saved her an Ensure or other liquid, nutrition supplement? She said they have “Mighty Shakes” that they could give. I said “please make sure she is given a shake when she awakes”. She said she would see to it. I walked up to her an hour later and asked if she followed through with my request for my Mom to be given a shake? she said “no, she forgot”. This unacceptable care happened for the last 3 months my Mom was there. I leave this review to warn others of what their loved one could experience at Elmwood at the Shawhan on the 4th floor. Another answer you will never receive is if they accept Medicaid once your loved one spends every last cent they have. I asked 6 times for 1 year and 8 months. Our family deserved an answer to this question as we were planning for our Mother’s long term care needs. The owner, Executive Director, Admissions person, and several Nurses never did get me an answer or return my important voicemails to these questions. Please be cautious if considering this facility. We moved our Mother into a far better, Proactive, Caring, Exceptional Nursing Home and we are only sorry we did not do it sooner. It was truly a day and night experience. Briar Hill’s staff is highly educated, kind, and has a wide variety of Activities going on. Truly just the best!!!

This facility is beautiful. Always decorated for the holidays. The staff really cares about the residents. We have very little turn over which says wonders about the management at this facility.

My Mother is there and she loves it. She enjoys the activities and she says the food is good. She said she does not feel like she is in a nursing home. She was in a nursing home before we moved her there.

This facility is absolutely beautiful inside and out ! The holidays are so gorgeous it is decorated like I have never seen before it is stunning ! This place is the best I have ever seen ! The staff is awesome as well. Schedule a visit you won't be disappointed ! The teas they put on are so delightful !

I worked for this employer in activities, they are a great employer to work for. Lots of benefits including free meals while working shift. Would recommend this facility for your loved ones.

I have two friends there and have never been to a nicer assisted living home. It is like being in my own home. Beautifully decorated and they even have an awesome ice cream parlor for the residents .The food is amazing and the staff stay till retirement age.The residents love the facility and I have already told my loved ones that I want to live there when I am no longer able to care for myself. Hats off to the staffing for loving and taking care of my friends.A special thank you to The owner and administration team.

My husband has resided at The Shawhan for a little over one year. I have nothing but compliments..intake process was smooth (yes, emotionally difficult), the nursing staff fabulous, his primary caregiver is amazing, housekeeping does a great job and let me not forget the delicious food! Walking in to a warm and inviting facility is a truly amazing experience, Yes, it feels like a hotel... with activities for those that want to participate, Friday happy hour, ice cream parlor, a gorgeous outside patio...the list goes on and on.
