The staff is always welcoming and very helpful to me as a visitor and in taking care of my wife. They have my utmost confidence.
October 2024
I enjoyed visiting my uncle very much. I does have many concerns. He is not being given any physical therapy and his body is beginning to retract. His skin is also not being moisturized regularly so when I moisturized and massaged him there was a lot of dry skin flakes falling off his legs, arms and feet. It seems the nurses make sure to moisturize his scalp and face but not much else. I stretched his arms and legs but was told it would be painful. I saw it was painful when he had to be moved by the nurse but I believe it is because his muscles are atrophying due to zero stretching. When I stretched his limbs my uncle did not wince or scream out, he just widened his eyes and his limbs began to give way. My daughter and I sang and danced for him. He has been non verbal but he actually replied to one of our questions. Your facility provides music therapy yet he is not participating and the excuse was because it's painful to sit in the wheelchair due to his gout. I was able to stretch his body painlessly with his gout so if he was getting some physical therapy it would definitely improve his quality of life. I also tried wiping his teeth with the sponge and the inside of his mouth. There were more dry skin flakes and thick saliva or food residue. My uncle Tommie would grab hold of the wet sponge would suck out the water like an infant with a pacifier. I believe part of the reason he is non verbal is because his throat and mouth may be completely dried out. So there again lies a place for improvement. My uncle tried to speak several times. He puckered his lips and tried to kiss at us. It was the sweetest thing. His nails were also completely over grown. On my last visit today I met a wknd nurse by the name of Holly. I expressed my concerns to her and she said she'd report everything. She clipped his nails and repositioned him in the bed. She brought me aquafor and gloves for my massage and stretching. She gave me hope. I requested a note pad and pen from another nurse on her rounds and she happily obliged. I took the printer paper and wrote sight words, A, B, C's so he can begin to communicate. I listed YES, NO, HOT, COLD, HURT, MOISTURIZE, and a couple of others. I expect my uncle to receive the services his insurance is paying the facility for. I will be speaking aunts and uncles regarding implementing music, stretching, helping with keeping his mouth moisturized to help him become verbal again. But I do expect the facility to render all services for the betterment of my uncles well being as a whole. I was impressed with Holly and pray that the other nurses follow her desire and willingness to help patients live not die. I had a wonderful time visiting my uncle in spite of the negative and I hope his health improves and the Grenada nurses are willing to continue to help him progress with the plan I tested and clearly was seeing positive progression. Holly seems to be a credit to your institution and she spoke very positively about your staff so moving forward I am hoping to see change. My uncle is going to the hospital far too much so I'd like to see that minimized. I'd like to see his body not retracting from lack of stretching. I know that gout is painful but so is stretching and working out in the beginning stages. There needs to be an effort so my uncle can participate in the music therapy classes. I am going to suggest that the therapy class is audited by one of my relatives. His mouth needs moisture and although he is feeding intravenously it's clear his mouth is still dehydrated. I'd also like to see him gain more than 2 lbs a month and having his siblings regularly updated on his progress or anything they may need additional assistance with for his long term care.

The food is homemade and good. The staff seem to have a lot of patience when dealing with the residents. They are taking good care of him & keeping me informed on how he's doing.
