I would like to acknowledge the faculty and staff from the kitchen to the front door to the personal support workers to the physiotherapists, the administration staff here at sunrise of Unionville ! Looking for temporary residency to rehab and recover from Right Biotic Full Knee sugery at the age of 78, it was a blessing to find a diamond in the rough here at Sunrise of Unionville. Such a warm, cozy , professional facility ! I would especially like to acknowledge GAGAN Deep Sangha , Sunita Dhillon, Ezmena , these 3 ladies who were strangers to me at first became the pillar of support and strength. They treated me as family, as a aunt, as mother, as a sister who I can't put the words of thankfulness and appreciation for except four letters LOVE ! The kitchen staff, lead by Harry, Raisin and service staff Devika accommodated my East Indian Vegetarian Diet, only to make daily modifications for strength and protein needed to rehab , thank You The front office staff from Surrinder , Sandra, Renee, Neila, Nathaniel were soo transparent in the information for the support I was in need for , thank you ! Lastly the staff who always smile to greet me daily and my visitors, Victoria, Andreiana, thank you I will always be grateful for my 30 day short term stay for rehabilitation, recovery, and rejuvenation of life to all the staff at Sunrise of Unionville - Promila B

My father in law has been a resident at Sunrise of Unionville for over a year. We have only good things to say about the residence. As does my father in law, we find the staff to be so kind, caring and efficient. They really are all simply amazing. The receptionist Andrene is always very welcoming and always most helpful. She always greets us with a smile. My father in law enjoys the many activities offered here and is very comfortable attending the social events. He is happy here and we can see why. My family would like to thank all the Sunrise staff and management for the outstanding care that was provided to our father for the five years he resided there. When he arrived there at age 90, coming off serious surgery at the start of the pandemic, I truly believe Sunrise helped him live until 95 years of age. Through encouraging him to participate in daily exercise, activities, going for meals in the dining room he felt surrounded by friends including Sunrise staff and management. The PSW’s showed him compassion, understanding, friendship and did an outstanding job managing his care requirements through all stages of health including palliative care. The nursing staff continuously updated us on any changes to medications and observations of his health. Thank-you Sunrise. Jim and Sandi.

My father passed away early in the morning at Sunrise. The staff at Sunrise immediately contacted Highland Hills Funeral Home and did everything they could to support me. Unfortunately, Highland Hills failed us in every possible way. It took 15 hours for them to pick up my father’s body. During that time, there was zero communication unless we chased them. Meanwhile, Sunrise staff went above and beyond ” they kept contacting the funeral home, supported me emotionally, and even had to make special arrangements because my father shared a room with another elderly resident, who was displaced for the entire day due to the delay. Sunrise showed care, compassion, and professionalism in an incredibly difficult situation. I am deeply grateful for their efforts.

My dad was discharged from Birchmount Hospital to Sunrise for the short stay support to practice walking. The staffs are very nice and patient to help my dad. The environment is very clean and beautiful for the senior to relax and recover. It is located at the heart of Markham and very convenience to get there to visit. Highly recommend this place for the senior if they need a place to recover or short term stay.

My mom was discharged from Markham Stouffville Hospital to Sunrise of Unionville in the summer through the Road to Home’ program and was waiting for the Long Term Care crisis bed over there. The team at Sunrise and the coordinator from Ontario Health atHome have been so helpful. My mom is at the LTC facility now. My experience with the teams at Sunrise has been so great. From the sales staff (Lalita/Renee), medical care staff (Hyacinth), and personal care staff (Sandra/Deon/Ezmina/Balwinder), everyone was so caring and helpful. They really took care of my mom during her stay. I would definitely recommend Sunrise of Unionville to families who might need their services. Job well done!!

I wrote a Google review about Sunrise of Unionville in 2021 that was visible for a while, but strangely it is not visible now to anyone except me when I sign in to Google. Since I still feel strongly about the things I said then, I'm adding to it now so it will be widely seen again. My Mom has been at Sunrise of Unionville since October 2020. My appreciation for the care managers has only increased over time: no matter the situation, their professional, caring attitude and values are always there. Thank you very much for taking care of our loved ones. Review from 2021: My Mom moved into the Reminiscence floor of Sunrise about 10 months ago from another retirement home. I concur with many of the positive points made by other reviewers about the care provided by the Designated Care Managers. The Reminiscence care managers have done a great job getting to know my Mom, and treating her with dignity and respect. My Mom feels safe and secure; and she feels at home. This is much more challenging to do during a pandemic, and also much more challenging when the resident has dementia. It is worth mentioning that a number of the care managers have been working at Sunrise of Unionville for over 20 years, and I am sure that residents benefit from the expertise and wisdom of staff with long experience. My mother seems to be very happy with the food, echoing comments made by other reviewers. Also, the medical staff got to the bottom of an existing issue that I feel very comfortable saying should at least have been investigated more thoroughly by the previous care facility in the months before my Mom’s move to Sunrise. I feel fortunate that we found out about Sunrise, that we were able to move my mother into Sunrise of Unionville when we did. I am happy that she has become comfortable there. I am very appreciative of the care provided by the care managers and the rest of the team, especially during these challenging pandemic times.

Our father moved into Sunrise Unionville in late 2023 and it has so far been nothing but a very professional, kind, personal, and congenial experience all the way. The teams of managers, nurses, PSWs, and staff at all levels, have been wonderful to deal with, whether in person or via phone call. They have shown us a warm and involved care level and dedication to improving the quality of life for dad - from the application process, interviews, discussions, on through to the daily routines. Sunrise of Unionville has become a "home" for my Mom. Staff and caregivers greet her by her name, ask about her family and spend time talking to her. She enjoys the meals and activities. Her suite is a place of comfort and security for her and is maintained extremely well by staff. Any general questions or issues concerning my Mom have been addressed immediately and professionally. We were not able to be with my Mom for her birthday so staff helped us organize a cake for her and Facetimed us so we could hear everyone sing happy birthday to her and see her enjoy her cake. It was emotionally difficult for us to place my Mom in an assisted living residence but at Sunrise I know she is cared for by people who care and administrators who strive for quality of life for their residents.

I would like to specifically call out Lalita D, Sandra P and Anna D for being so supportive and positive during a difficult transition for my family. Our 94 yr old mother was in dire need of 24 hr care and the opportunity to recover her mobility from Hip Surgery after a terrible fall at home. On April 28th, my mother arrived via Ambulance Transfer to Sunrise of Unionville. Almost 3 months later, my mothers condition had improved 100%! The Sunrise rehabilitation model went above and beyond our expectations. The system at Sunrise of Unionville was incredible. Everyday one can witness the management of any of our mother’s Physical and Cognitive needs. Approximately 3 months later my mother had reached her goals, particularly her mobility. I can attest to the success of Sunrise’s incredible system. I do believe in the old saying that proof is in the pudding and in this case our mother is now able to walk with her walker and has actually returned back home. A warm thanks and hug to the following for a great experience : Executive Director Mark Stanton- Always available, respected by his employees and residents, is firm and yet seems to be a master of emotional intelligence. Assisted Living Co-Ordinator Sandra Persaud- Does it all. Incredibly skilled in the art of care and fundamental human relations. Empathy and understanding with every resident is a natural component of her personality. Her great staff of caregivers is truly a refkexion of Sandra. Director of sales Lalita Dhanai- The success of Sunrise began at the beginning. Lalita found appropriate accommodation and an honest plan. Everything she promised, she delivered. Her honesty, kind manor and immediate understanding of what my mother needed was her starting point. I must say, that Lalita will always be trusted by our family. Finally, a resounding Thankou!!!! to all of the wonderful caregivers that helped our Mother get better.

A very pleasant environment for our beloveds to spend their days. The rooms and common areas are lovely. The team is responsive and always available if you need to be in touch. Some of the staff are terrific. We were lucky enough to have Monique assigned to our loved one and she was wonderful. We loved her and she showed us great affection and care as well. There were some challenges with the care provided. We must advocate for our loved ones - public or private, the family voice is essential to maintaining quality of life.

The staff went out of their way to continue to provide communication during the pandemic and I was able to go in as an essential visitor. My Mom has been a resident of the the Reminiscence floor of Sunrise of Unionville for about 1.5 years. The staff have made every effort to create a welcoming environment and help her to feel at home. Having a Designated Care Manager (DCM) gives my family peace of mind that we have a go to person if we ever have questions. Hyacinth, my Mom’s DCM, is not only professional, but treats my Mom with a level of care and compassion that goes above and beyond. Throughout the last year and the many challenges of COVID-19, the staff have been amazing in working very hard to keep the residents safe, while trying to provide extra activities for stimulation.We are kept well informed with weekly communications from Sunrise management. As well, Dorothy the Activities Coordinator set up a Smile App in the last year that keeps us connected with messages and photos, plus updates on planned activities and special events which is really appreciated. My family and I feel very fortunate that we were able to find Sunrise for our Mom after her dementia made it too difficult for her to cope in her own home. We would not hesitate to recommend Sunrise of Unionville to anyone looking for a warm, safe new home for their loved one.

Sunrise of Unionville has been very helpful during a very difficult time (Covid) when we had to admit my Stepfather. Everyone from the Director of Sales to the Reminiscence Coordinator to the care takers have gone over above and beyond to make sure we are well informed. During Covid Shut down we have always been able to contact and talk to my Stepdad and the staff to make sure all is well. This transition is never an easy one for anyone but Sunrise of Unionville has been there every step of the way and have been incredibly helpful.
