My wife moved in to Sunrise Erin Mills in October 2024. She has Alzheimer’s and in August fell and broke her hip leaving her unable to walk. I had scouted out Sunrise several months before as a contingency plan as it is close to our home. Arrangements for moving to Sunrise were handling efficiently and with compassion. The atmosphere at Sunrise is joyful. You will see lots of smiles and hear lots of laughter at Sunrise, not to mention the warm hugs.The whole staff work enthusiastically as a team and treat residents with respect, skill and love. My wife has received excellent care and encouragement so that small but significant progress has been made in her walking again. There are many varied activities every day that residents can participate in and enjoy as well as frequent external entertainers. The food is excellent with many options for satisfying the particular likes of residents. I am at Sunrise every day and see many moving moments. My Dad recently moved into Sunrise-Erin Mills and although the decision was difficult, the staff at Sunrise were all very welcoming, informative, and accommodating. The first couple of days, the staff visited my Dad and introduced themselves which made him more comfortable and an easy transition. The care he has received, has been exactly what he needed and I am grateful for the care they have shown. The facility is nicely decorated, I like the fact that the rooms aren't down a long hallway of doors. I also like that the facility has 4 floors with access to balconies, activity areas, sitting areas, the dinning and bistro area, and the outside grounds are surrounded with forest, quiet and peaceful. Our 100 year old totally independent mother took a fall in early 2023 and lost the use of her legs and arms. Within 4 months we realized that we [the family] could not support her needs anymore. We looked extensively for a facility that could provide the ability to properly lift and care for our mother, especially if her condition worsened. We pick Sunrise of Erin Mills for several reasons, the first reason was their ability to lift and maneuver, our mother as needed, and with the care and dignity, she deserved at the age of 100. The second reason was the reputation of the staff, management and facility, which we researched by talking to previous clients. The third was the location (ability for family and friends to visit easily]. The initial on-streaming and application to enter Sunrise of Erin Mills, was smooth and exceptionally efficient. Her first day as expected was stressful, but the staff made every attempt to ensure she was welcome.d, and her stress levels reduced as much as possible. Saying that, the staff did this with us as well, since for the family, moving someone into long-term care, is highly stressful and emotional on them as well. Yes, we were exhausted at after day 1, but the staff took over immediately to ensure our mother was made to feel comfortable and relaxed as much as possible. We knew that it would take 2 to 4 months for our mother to acclimatize and feel that Sunrise of Erin Mills was her new home, and that she would not be going back to her house again. And yes, it did take this long, we had some rough spots, and we worked closely with both management and the staff to work through every issue. The employees are wonderful, they know us by name, they let us know if they need anything, they are very professional, and very considerate. We spent a lot of time at Sunrise of Erin Mills to ensure the first 7 to 10 days went as smoothly as possible, and then we have spent many days over the last year at the facility to ensure any issues were dealt with in a timely manner. Although there has been some major management change in the last year, the meetings we had with the old management has been successfully integrated into our mothers care, and the Frontline staff [PSWs] are excellent in ensuring that the care of our mother is attended to promptly. We have the utmost respect and gratitude for the staff that take care of our mother. With respect to the application of medicines, Sunrise of Erin Mills provides top quality service in ensuring our mother gets her proper medication and gets it on time. The nurses who administer the medications are just a delight to deal with and unbelievably make getting her medication fun. We recognize that handling our mother by Hoyer lift for all her needs, like showering, commode, getting in and out of bed or her wheelchair is not an easy task. Nor is helping or cleaning someone up 5 to 7 times a day for BM’s. We cannot thank the front line staff enough for how well they take care of our mother. With respect to the food, the kitchen and the dining facilities, we recognize that they have a very unique and very demanding clientele with respect to needs, taste, and requirements. Because our mother has lost the use of her arms, she needs to be fed by someone and has very special requests of the kitchen staff. The staff go to great lengths to accommodate our mothers needs, her access into the dining room, and her need to try and be independent as possible when eating. We have spent many days eating with her in the general dining room and also when we have other family members, eating in the private dining room. We have observed the staff and what they have to deal with three times a day and are impressed by their attitude, responsiveness and their efficiency C. When we have special orders, the kitchen, and also the front desk staff are responsive, polite, professional, and always smiling. Based on our direct interactions, we can tell that the employees at SUNRISE OF ERIN MILLS truly care about people.

Update: My mom joined Sunrise about 2 years ago, and initially, she was a bit unsure since it was a new experience for her. However, as time went on, she really found her place there, surrounded by so much love and support from the staff at Sunrise Erin Mills. My siblings, nephews, children, and I made sure to visit her every single day and include her in all our family celebrations. Over time, we got to know everyone at the Erin Mills location, and it truly felt like we became part of a big family “ from the nurses and doctors to the caregivers and even the chef. The staff at Sunrise Erin Mills treated my mom like she was part of their own family, and we are incredibly grateful for the care and support they provided, especially during her final days in palliative care. There are so many staff members who went above and beyond for my mom, and while I can't name them all, their kindness will never be forgotten. I wholeheartedly recommend Sunrise Erin Mills to other families looking for a place where their loved ones can feel cherished and well cared for. ”””””””””””””””””””””””” At 89, having spent nearly 3 months in hospital suffering from the effects of Covid, then moved to a rehab facility to help her walk again, I, and my siblings decided to move my mom to an assisted living facility. After extensive research of all the facilities in the GTA we decided on sunrise Of Erin Mills on friend’s recommendation, positive reviews, plus the zoom interviews with the management during the Covid pandemic. It was a big step for my mom, as well as for us her children. Coming from a middle eastern culture leaving your mom in a nursing home is like abandoning your child, and going on with your life. Needless to say it was the best decision taken. The first two weeks were difficult for my mom, and for us, but the care givers , nurses, managers, even the chefs were amazing. Everyone was so sympathetic, caring, loving, and very professional at the same time. They made her feel special, loved and family. Fast forward 3 months later, my mom is a different person, independent, happy can walk again with the assistance of a walker, thanks to the occupational therapist and excercise she gets on a weekly bases. A doctor checks on her, medications are administered to her daily, all her needs are looked after. The food is fantastic and the menue changes daily. It’s like living in a five star hotel. What more can we ask for if your loved one is happy in such a place and environment then we definitely recommend to all, I’d recommend it to myself if I get to that age I can never thank Sunrise of Erin Mills staff, and volunteers enough, for taking care of my mom.
