I have lived here for 6 years and I love it. Moving here was the best financial decision I ever made, and it also has been good for my physical and emotional health. There are lots of opportunities to walk nearby, and exercise classes at various levels. I am single, and a bit of an introvert, so living in community has been good for me. My independent living apartment is great, and I have enjoyed fixing it up to suit my tastes. It is a comfort to know that if and when I need more care, I can move to another part of the Friendsview Community and get the help I need. I enjoy cooking, so I fix most of my own meals. But if I want to, I can go over to the dining hall for a meal and a chance to visit with neighbors. Friendsview offers a lot of educational programs, art programs where you can develop new skills, one day trips (we are going to the beach in Sept.!). Residents have organized over thirty special interest groups-- I am involved with the knitting, quilting and walking groups. Whatever your passion, from woodworking to model trains to archery, you will find someone here who shares it.

Before retirement, I was an employee for 30 years, then I experienced being a family member of a resident for 8i years and now I am a resident for 15 years. The sense of community with genuine care for one another is ever present. We are a family drawn together from many places by the grace of God. I'm glad I came as a 69 year old. It is a blessing to enjoy independent living with all the ability and energy to participate in the many planned activities: educational, physical, sight seeing trips and hobby groups. Don't wait to join our community!

Sue Pruitt

Sue Pruitt: My mom passed away 4 years ago this week. She and my dad had lived at Friendsview for many years. They told me they wanted to move there because it would give each of them peace of mind, knowing that if they died first, the other one would be cared for by this loving community. And they were, both of them. When my dad died 12 years ago, mom didn't have to move and find a new place for herself. She was still home with a loving community surrounding her. Even as she grieved she slipped into a new role of involvement with others in the community, helping and serving in many ways. As her health failed years later, I was again so thankful that my parents made the move to Friendsview. She had to go to the health center for a couple of short stays where she was gently loved and cared for by the staff. When it became apparent that she needed help with the basic needs of living, she found help on the assistant living floor. The move was hard, but we were so thankful it was just across campus with people she already knew and her friends nearby. They met her needs and ours as she neared the end. I was so glad she was there instead of some nursing home! Because of their experience, my husband and I are on the intent list to move into Friendsview someday. I know we will love the wonderful community and I know we'll be well cared for as medical needs arise.

I have interned here while completing my Bachelors Degree in Psychology at George Fox University in Memory Care and instantly fell in love with the community. Then fast forward 3 or 4 years later I landed a job at Friendsview and have been working her for almost 3 years. I couldn't have asked for a better first job to start my career at. Not only do the senior leadership truly care about staff and residents, but the work we do here in this community fulfills the heart and soul.
