I used senior helpers when my 74 year old mother had surgery and was in the hospital for nearly 3 months. While she was recovering thru physical therapy the folks at senior helpers of Smithtown gave us all the support we needed to get mom back to her old self. The care workers were 1st class. Kind, compassionate, hard working and responsible. We had 3 different care workers over the course of 6 to 8 weeks. Shifts were split 10am to 2pm and 5pm to 9pm. We had very little issue with cancelation. When there was a cancelation, senior helpers sought a replacement asap. We never went without help. The did light cleaning, cooking, laundry and gave my mom physical assistance whenever needed. They also served as great companions which is an often overlooked part of the skill set they provide. Peg, who is the intake coordinator was absolutely fantastic. She met with my mom in the hospital and demonstrated a level of professionalism that went above and beyond in terms of her demeanor, knowledge amd commitment to client service. Gayle, who is the owner of the business, was also kind considerate and caring. My only knock on Gayle was that I wish she was a bit more involved personally in my mom's case. However, it is only a minor criticism simply because I do not know the volume of business and clients they have so her time may be spread thin to begin with. I did not let this issue affect my 5 star rating. The pricing model senior helpers follows is in line with other organizations in the industry. The 4 hour daily minimum is actually better than other peers in industry who typically require either 6 or 8 hour days. Towards the end, we only needed help for 4 hours a day. The billing process was smooth and invoices were timely and accurate. In summary, I would recommend senior helpers of Smithtown to anyone who is in need of their services. They played an important role in my mom's recovery.

I highly recommend this agency. My mother was sad since my father died, and I asked the agency to send over lively upbeat aids who would cheer her up. They did a super great job at this and my mother had such a lovely time with these sweet, caring women. Mom would often say things like "where do they find such nice people?" The owners kept open a constant line of communication to ensure my mother was both comfortable and well cared for. The aide they matched her with was second to none and often put her own unique touch on what was already fantastic service. I would often come home to find she had brought in flowers from our garden to brighten up my mothers day. And for the days we were in the hospital, the aide came with coffee and a smile. In contrast, an aide we had with a different agency saw my mother being rushed into an ambulance and asked her to sign a timesheet before she left.The work Senior Helpers does is so, so important, and they do a phenomenal job. They will not let your family down; in fact, you may find they become part of it.

Mom was adamant that she did not want (or need) a companion, so I really appreciated the time the Senior Helpers directors and staff took to come up with a strategy to ease Mom into the home visits. The team at Senior Helpers and Moms companion kept in close contact with me to make sure it was going well. We found Senior Helpers at a critical time. As my 93 year old grandmothers mental capacity began to deteriorate, her safety became a concern and as a family we didnt exactly know what to do.
