I moved my sister who has dementia and Parkinson's disease from Texas to the Blue Spruce Home so that she could be closer to family and friends. I had to move my sister within Texas from her home to memory care, then to a nursing home, and then again to a memory care when COVID caused issues at the nursing home. At these other facilities, I have seen good things and some things that would make your hair stand on end. I can say without any reservation that Blue Spruce is top notch. They get her complicated medications right. They know how to handle sundowning and wandering. They take incredible care of all the residents medically and their hygiene and grooming is excellent. My sister always has her hair done in various cute hairstyles, her nails done, and is clean and neat. They have ample portions of good homemade food. My sister really enjoys the home cooking and baked goods. Best of all, Blue Spruce is clean, warm, inviting and homey and they adore my sister and spoil her rotten. Her room is lovely, the yard is super cute, and in warm weather there is a nice deck for residents to sit out on. When I saw what Sharon (the wife in the amazing couple who own it) had done for my sister for Christmas, making the room look practically like a Christmas shop, I teared up. Sharon asked me why, and I said it was tears of relief and happiness, because I had peace of mind, that if I died unexpectedly or fell ill, I knew my sister would be fine, because they love her and spoil her so much. Blue Spruce did just as good a job with Valentine's day and with a birthday party in March for three residents born that month.They gave my sister a huge bag of presents, she was neat as a pin and she even had a tiara to wear. My sister has no husband or children, and Blue Spruce considers all the residents to be family and treats them like it. There are dogs, cats and kids. One time I came to see my sister and the fourth generation (children) were putting on a play for her. It is really fun for the residents, and if they need quiet, they can relax in their rooms. Her illness used to make her miserable, and she is very happy at Blue Spruce and actually told me she is not ready to die because she wants to see what happens each day. Imagine being on hospice and being in such a great place that you are happy and still curious about life. This is a family run place with three generations working at it. There are also employees, carefully hired aides, who are great, and a very qualified nurse manager that was formerly a hospice nurse. They are all very dedicated to my sister and so sweet and loving to her. With the pandemic, many care settings have gone way down hill. Not Blue Spruce. They have met the challenges of the pandemic and shone. Also, the family that runs it, the Sylvesters, are well know in the Upper Valley and everyone sings their praises. I have met several people who had loved ones at Blue Spruce and each raved about their family members' care.
