There will never be enough words of praise for the incredible staff at RSBL! Their sheer joy, caring and kindness is unparalleled. It was because of the proximity to my physio that I chose this place to spend my first 2 weeks post knee replacement.... and what a lucky find this was. I want also to speak about the residents. They are welcoming, also extremely kind and caring bunch that loved their choice of home.... and that speaks volumes. Thanks to all from the bottom of my heart.

I had been looking for some time for a 2-week respite facility for post knee replacement surgery. Most facilities in the GTA would only provide a 1-month minimum stay. Kat at Retirement Suites gave me all of the information I needed over the phone, agreed to a 2-week occupancy, and offered me a tour. The facility tour included a complimentary lunch (which was delicious). I agreed to rent a 1-bedroom suite with “basic” services (although they do have a large menu of optional extras). Upon arriving from the hospital, I was checked in with a complimentary wheel chair. The room was bright, clean, and wheelchair and walker friendly, and had a queen size bed and a walk-in shower. There was outdoor patio access via a ramp directly from the suite. The hallways were perfect for the required walking exercises. The first several days a nurse came in to monitor my vitals. Meals were delivered to the suite for the first 3 days. PSWs and Porters shuttled my wheelchair back and forth to the dining room for each meal. Ice was delivered multiple times per day for the knee ice cuff. Everything was absolutely according to and above expectations. That all said about the physical attributes, all of the staff, and all of the meals were outstanding. The staff immediately began calling me by name, knew my likes and dislikes, and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and that my needs were met. Rebecca, my PSW was both an absolute pleasure and a blessing! All staff could not have been more kind or more professional (Reception Desk, Dining Room, PSW’s, Chef, Porters, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and General Manager)! The food was lovely! Multiple scheduled choices for each meal, as well as on demand options. Homemade soups at lunch were amazing and never repeated. Fresh fruit with breakfast, fresh salads with dinner, and never canned or frozen fruit or vegetables (desserts were great too)! I would wholeheartedly recommend the respite care program at Retirement Suites By The Lake!

All aspects of our experience with Retirement Suites By The Lake has been and continues to be wonderful and exceed our expectations. It is very clean and well run and all the staff and associates are warm, courteous, helpful, skilled, attentive, and genuine. They bend over backwards to create a safe, warm, pleasurable, and inviting environment and they make each person (residents and guests) feel welcome and accepted. All questions are responded to promptly and accurately, which helps family decisions to be made quickly and easily. My dad's suite is newly renovated and is immaculate. Most importantly, he is very happy there and our minds and hearts are at ease, because we know he is in a good place and space, and he is well looked after. Heartfelt appreciation to all the staff and management at Retirement Suites By the Lake for your superb work and efforts. It is noticed and valued.

We made the decision to move my 88 year old mother into RSBL a month ago. She was quite resistant to moving, and I was concerned and stressed. From the very moment she stepped foot in there, the staff were incredible! Welcoming, understanding, and exceptionally patient as we both made the transition. They are on top of her care, and she has settled in well. She likes living there, loves the meals, and says that all the staff are wonderful to her. I could not be happier with Retirement Suites. And my mom feels the same.

We moved my mother-in-law into the Suites at the beginning of July 2025. The staff are very friendly, attentive and helpful. Kat did a great job explaining everything to us to ensure we were prepared. My mother-in-law settled in very quickly and is thriving at her new home. Any time we did need to reach out to the staff, their responsiveness is prompt and efficient. This was the best decision.

My brother, my sister and I moved our mother into RSBL 3 weeks ago. We are so glad we did. She had been so lonely at home but now she is a part of a vibrant and happy community. The residents and the staff have been very welcoming and it's a huge relief knowing we found this wonderful new home for our mom. She's made new friends and has joined in on some of the many activities. She's very well taken care of. Everyone who works there obviously care about the residents a great deal. We can't say enough about the kindness of the staff. Everyone who works there is wonderful.

My experience with Retirement Suites by the Lake has been nothing short of excellent. The staff are incredibly kind, attentive, and truly care about the well-being of the residents. There’s always something going on, from fun activities and outings to games and group events that help everyone stay active and social. The other residents are friendly and welcoming, making it feel like a real community. The food is also surprisingly good ” tasty, well-balanced, and with lots of variety. It’s comforting to know that my mother in law Massina Agostini was in such a warm and supportive environment. Highly recommend!

My mother recently moved to this retirement home. We had looked a quite a few retirement homes, but the smaller-scale, homey, friendly feel at Retirement Suites by the Lake won us over. The dining room has is small and carpeted, giving a quiet and intimate feel (and the food is great). The lobby area is constantly in use - with daily exercise class, music, TV, or just hanging out. This social, informal, friendly feel was the most important thing we were looking for.

I was looking for a short term stay for my father who is undergoing knee surgery and although we ultimately decided to go somewhere closer to home, we still had an amazing experience with the staff. Diane gave us a tour and her energy was magnetic. She was so personable, funny, welcoming and enthusiastic. The other staff were also just as friendly and made this home a real joy to visit. Thanks Scarborough retirement by the lake, my family and I really enjoyed our visiting experience and should we ever need full time care, this is definitely a home we will strongly consider.

What a lovely homelike facility. The staff here work together like family and that vibe permeated all the interactions I had in making preparations for my mum to reside here for a respite stay. Despite the complications I encountered in completing the necessary requirements I felt supported in every step. Diane in particular made sure we had everything we needed, and her patient and kind guidance was so very appreciated at a stressful time. Cassandra was still helping me on the phone long after she had left work for the day. I look forward to the next time I need help with mums care while I am away. I need look no further than RSBL.

My two week stay at Retirement Suites By the Lake was beyond my expectations. I was at The Spa ( as I liked to call it ) to recuperate from a knee replacement and was met with supportive and caring attention by all the staff . My suite was immaculate, the food delicious, but most importantly, the concern , compassion and encouragement for my well being , by everyone involved , was over whelming . A special thanks to Diane and Cassandra , who made the arrangements for my stay , and subsequently my two week visit , so enjoyable .

I have had years of experience in dealing with senior residences and long term care facilities while providing care giving for my family in different areas of the province, palliative care for clients assigned to me, and also volunteering. In researching facilities in the Scarborough area, our family visited and toured many before making a decision to choose Retirement Suites by the Lake. It just felt right from the get go “ a smaller facility with a close knit environment. One of our first connections was the Community Engagement Manager “ who was very attentive, considerate, and competent “ and continues to follow up with us to ensure all is well. All staff, from managers, maintenance, front-line reception, housekeeping, laundry, PSW's and nursing have all at times taken time out of their busy schedules to provide additional process and emotional support, in guiding us, thus making our mother's transition much easier than expected. The building is well kept and provides a considerable amount of activities that engage residents in a positive manner. And there is a good variety of suite types to choose from. I have and will continue to recommend Retirement Suites by the Lake to families requiring assisted living or temporary respite care.
