Our family could not be any happier that our loved one has found a home at The Derby Manor. It is truly a great peace of mind knowing he is in an environment that is safe, secure, clean, and most importantly nurturing. The staff and residents work hand in hand with each other. It's the best of both worlds. As I see it, it's a Senior "All Inclusive" in a great surrounding. We were in need of finding a senior independent housing very quickly in 2023. My father was being released from a Rehab Center & we couldn't allow him to return to the family home. It was unsafe for him to remain there. My father was very ambivalent about going to an "apartment like setting" but also realized that his current dwelling was a danger to his well-being. With many recommendations & urging from various friends, we quickly went to The Derby Manor to see for ourselves. We were greeted immediately by the front office staff upon our arrival. They informed the administration staff promptly about our arrival & we were quickly greeted and welcomed. We went on a tour of the residences, the grounds, the dining area, and the recreation/multipurpose room. The one thing that impressed us most was how clean everything was - no odor, well vacuumed floors, no destruction or disrepair of the building (interior or exterior), well designed safety features throughout the building & suites, and barrier free suites. As we toured the the dining area, the staff were extremely cheerful not just with us but with each resident, as they took & brought their meal orders. We noticed that they also provided a "sample plate" of what is being served so residents can decide on which meal for the day they would like. If either of those meals are not appetizing, an alternative meal is available. I also noticed how there were many folks that were picking up orders from the dining room, as well. It was explained to us that there are some residents who would rather eat in their own dwelling. Some are ill and stay in their own room & with the assistance of care aides, they will bring them their meals which is arranged ahead of time. There's even a "banquet" like room in the back of the dining room to accommodate families for large family gatherings. As the weather warms, there's a patio area available if those that would like to eat outdoors. There are laundry facilities on each floor, with designated recycle & garbage receptacles that are cleared very frequently. Again, this area is spot clean & very accommodating for the residents. Because of our needs at the time, they understood & aided us in a "trial period" to see if this would be the right fit for our Dad. Needless to say, it was the best decision we made & my father could not be happier. I recently returned due to a medical issue that my father incurred. They immediately contacted our emergency contacts & we were able to get my Dad the assistance he needed for a speedy recovery back to "The Derby". The residents were very caring & welcoming knowing that I had arrived from out of the country to assist my father. The Derby Staff were even more welcoming than what I had remembered & also allowed me to partake in some of the many activities that occur there. Their Lifestyle Coordinator, Sherece, is truly a huge asset to this residence. She is insightful, nurturing, and enthusiastic in creating & offering activities that residents either request or she has developed. These activities vary & the residents enjoy them. The Derby Manor also offer Caregiver Suites for those residents whose family are from out of the area, for a period of time. It's most beneficial for all involved. So, if you are searching for an environment that needs to hit all the right points for our older population I highly recommend that you visit The Derby Manor. See for yourself. No smoke or mirrors with this amazing residency for our seniors.

We looked at a few places for my Dad. For the same price as others we had seen, they were Best Western and this is the Hilton!

My mother recently moved into the Derby Manner retirement home, and I must say, that this place it stop notch! Our whole experience, from our very first phone inquiry, up to and including the actual move, was exceptional! We were referred to Hani, to book a tour, and he accommodated us with an appointment almost immediately. When we met, he showed us two different available suites, and then met with us again on another day, just because my mom wanted a second look. Hani was super friendly, professional, very patient, and is a genuinely kind person, which is so important when dealing with the elderly and family members. Moving my 86 year old mother was very stressful for both her and I, and he put our minds at ease with his calm demeanour and by answering all our questions! The building is so quiet, the common areas nicely furnished with nice decor, the outdoor grounds and seating areas are lovely, all the staff are helpful, friendly and efficient. Activities and special offerings (foot care clinics and such), are abundant. The food is amazing. I could go on! Thank you Hani, and all Derby Manor staff, for making my mother feel welcome and making me feeling confident having her live here.

Beautiful building with superior service. Safety checks at door including Covid19 screening using temperature, contact tracing methods, and mandatory hand washing upon entering. Everyone here loves it. Its bustling with friendly people and health care staff caring for their residents. Seems like a five start resort rather than a retirement facility.

If you asked my family 2 years ago this place would've gotten 5 stars. Now that is not the case. The food quality has decreased significantly with the rent increasing every year. My grandmother is a vegetarian and the team is well aware of her dietary restrictions. With seniors everyone knows that their meals are extremely important, however, the team does not seem to care. They do not think about Canada's Food Guide. They do not plan the vegetarian meals ahead of time. It always is an after thought to them, which means they do not care for my grandmother's health. My mother has to call weekly and request for changes but nothing is ever done. Today for example the meat eaters were offered a beef meal with a Spanakopita as a side. Instead of giving my grandmother a protein replacement they gave her 2 Spanakopitas. And that is just one many weekly issues that my mother and grandmother call about. But nothing is ever done. In addition, to the food issues their attempt at considering the mental health of residents during COVID-19 has been weak. There has been no extra effort to setup social distancing chats with family. There has been no effort put in to keep family and residents well informed. The Derby Manor has had no loss of revenue. In fact they are saving money, as they would've likely let go their serving staff. Why can't this savings go into creating social distancing activities and bring in mobile centres so that they can see family and friends? We know other Independent living homes have done this and put in the extra effort. I would also like to note that they have applied LTC rules on a place that is not considered LTC. So social distancing on the premise should be allowed. At one point when my mother was social distance (more than 2 m) talking to my grandmother outside on the premise one of the Derby Manor staff members said that someone will likely call the police, which makes no sense what so ever. But residents who drive are allowed to leave the premise and bring in whatever potential germs they have. But when there is a family visit outdoors being done the threat of the police is brought up. And let us remember this is not the time and place to be threatening people of colour with the police. Simply put in normal circumstances Derby manor is okay but not with the food. And during COVID-19 they have kept the virus out . But have not considered mental health which is a huge component of quality of life for seniors. I would like to see improvements.

I was unsure about my Grandmother going into a rest home. After talking to other families and being there myself I found it to be a very happy place. There is a calendar of events for the month with 4 events each day. I can purchase a meal and sit and eat with her. She can go to the hair salon or the store in the hall. The biggest bonus for me is the care. I love the people who work there and the volunteers. Wonderful people. It has put my mind at so much ease I just am so grateful to know that even if I get sick she is cared for. Thank you so much for all you do.
