My mother was a residence for these past two years and The Talbot on Granby was like an oasis. It was quaint enough to where the residence all knew each other but large enough to have a plethora of super fun daily activities. And they have an amazing chef who always surprised the residents with gourmet meals. The staff is very nice and recognized my mom from the beginning of her stay until she moved out. It was personable, well organized and friendly.

I have lived here for almost 8 months and absolutely love it. We get two meals a day, breakfast and dinner, which are fabulous and included in the rent. Also, housekeeping twice a month. All personnel, staff, maintenance, servers, housekeeping are amazing and wonderful. They go out of their way to make us happy and take care of our needs. You could not ask for a better place to live. It is so awesome to have everything taken care of and all I have to do is enjoy myself.

We have lived here for almost 10 months. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is great with many selections available. There is no expensive buy-in, and the rent, given the excellent food, good service, rides available, responsive maintenance, ice cream socials, is reasonable. A fitness center and physical therapy are on-site. The extra meals and events are great fun. I didn't think old people could have so much fun, until we came to the Talbot.

I have made friends and I see them often. Friends and comradeship are most important to my wife and me. We have it in the Talbot. My best staff in order of best,1, to less, are. Christa #1. Leshia#2, Jeff #3, Mariah #4, Linda #5, Zakiah #6. James (maintenance) #7. Christa is a marvelous technician. She spent 40 minutes getting my printer to connect to my computer. And the decorations and activities and outside trips are tops. Leshia is the most cheerful and thorough apartment cleaning person. We clean before she comes because we like her.

I love the Talbot on Granby St.for Independent Living, because it is small enough so you can socialize with almost all the residents (about 125), because you know them by name and have already talked with them before. Also, the apartment rooms, windows, and balconies (more like porches) are larger than what one sees elsewhere. Furthermore, I like the fact that we rent our apartments; we don’t have to buy them. I am grateful that IESHA comes to clean our apartment every other week and that JAMES and JEFF are here to change light bulbs and fix things when we need them. In the dining hall we get especially efficient service from ZAKIAH, MARIAH, and SAMONE. We are lucky to have exercise classes with DORIA every weekday, and physical therapy available right in this building with KELLY and GRETCHEN every day. Then we have JANE to set up innumerable special events and talented, quick CHRISTA to solve all our problems figuring out our cell phones, computers, and printers, so we seniors stay up-to-date with our rapidly, changing world!

Community, fun, family! My mother has made many lasting friends in the 7 years that she lived at The Talbot on Granby. The staff is very friendly and caring. The food is great. And they listen to your ideas. Examples are: I suggested that they add benches around the building because people like to walk around the building and sometimes they get tired. Soon benches were added! I also suggested that they use tables in the dining room that would seat more than four people. Soon after that, they added larger round tables that can seat five or six people if need be! It’s nice to know that they listen to your ideas and care about your opinions! I highly recommend living here!

My father moved here shortly after the death of my mother four years ago. We worried about how he would acclimate since he was leaving the house he had lived in for 40 plus years. It was also the height of Covid. My fears were quickly alleviated, however, as I watched him thrive in the loving environment even with strict Covid protocols. Recently, dad was hospitalized for 10 days and I spend an extended period of time staying in his apartment. Now I have a better understanding on why he is always so eager to get back there after visiting me in Charlotte. The staff and resident are all like one big supportive family. It doesn't hurt that the meals are also fabulous and there is a wide range of activities throughout the week to chose from. If you are searching for a new place for yourself or a family member, please go and visit! You won't regret it.

The Talbot is a wonderful senior community, and I'm so sad that my mom's circumstances required her to move to where she will receive a higher level of care. In the short time she was a resident, I was beyond impressed with the facility, the amenities, and the staff. Mom's one-bedroom apartment was absolutely lovely, and she was thrilled to be able to keep her small dog. The staff treated her with kindness and respect. I recommend the Talbot to everyone!

It's a great place, the people at the front desk are nice, the cleaning crew and Maintenance crew are nice as well, even the dining crew are nice. However there are times when I take my client (who is a resident here) to breakfast in the dining room and it's takes ~20 minutes to get her food sometimes (especially on Wednesdays) and my client gets upset and leaves hungry, though she paid for breakfast as apart of her lease. Sometimes the crew is understaffed on some days and it goes even more slow. This needs to be fixed.

One of the most difficult things to do in life is to find an appropriate home for your parents. After visiting many facilities in the tidewater area, we kept coming back to The Talbot. Jodie (sale manager) and Diane (General manager) were gracious with their time, showing the property, inviting my parents for lunch/dinner, explaining the activities, benefits, etc. In the end we chose the Talbot and the paper work might have taken about 5 minutes. Their apartment is spacious with large walk in closets. Even though their excellent meals are served in the dining room downstairs, they still have a full size kitchen in their apt. (Mom still loves to bake cakes, cookies, etc.) Since dad no longer drives, the Talbot bus takes him to and from his medical appointments. Plenty of activities round out the picture. I, and more importantly, my parents could not be happier with their decision to finally move into The Talbot.

The Talbot and its staff are all angels for our family! Without going into details, our family has an active history with Diane and her staff for the past 5 years. It is an amazing place, in a great and safe location next to a hospital and just down the street from a fire station. It's above the flood zones with inside sheltered parking, and has the largest and more affordable independent apartments that I have seen all across the state. They currently have a family and emergency guest apartment and it is very nice. Thanks Diane for all that you and your staff do for our family.

She listens and offers what I believe is the best advice when it comes to how to proceed, how to deal with dilemmas and what to expect. We're dealing with our elderly mother here, so my brother and I wanted to do the best we could possibly do, and I believe very confidently that moving Mom to the Talbot on Granby meets that requirement we set for ourselves. I cannot stress too strongly how important it is to be dealing with a good listener, and that is precisely what she is. Now all of us are looking forward to this move. My mother moved into the The Talbot in 2012. The staff, directors, and physical therapists are incredibly caring and always professional. I knew when my mother was there she was safe and cared for. They took interest in her as a person and they always responded to and accommodated her needs. My mother had to go to the hospital twice while there. The staff not only helped her and called the ambulance but they immediately called me. The apartments are beautiful. They have fun activities, making sure the residents have a full and happy life. I have visited this location twice and am very impressed by the opportunity it may present to me in the near future; fine living accommodations with every amenity imaginable in the heart of Norfolk. The complex offers such a broad range of services and dining experiences and it is easy to see that they cater to both the "young" senior and the not so young seniors at affordable apartment rates.
