We used to bring fresh krispie Kreme donuts everytime we came to visit. A box for staff and a box for my mother in law to eat and share with all her friends. I am so grateful to the entire team at Spring Arbor in Albemarle, NC. My mom has been a resident for two years and although the initial transition was not easy for her or me, I could not ask for a more loving and attentive staff making her feel at home in her new home while reassuring me that her care was a priority. The wellness director and the activities coordinator regularly go above and beyond to keep residents engaged and motivated within the facility as well as in the surrounding community. I have been to multiple events put on for the residents of Spring Arbor - the entire staff is exceptional and you can easily see just how much they care about the residents. Assuring the residents are the focus and having a great time. I have also been there many times during a normal day - the staff is very friendly and you can tell the residents are the focal point always. My wife, Christy Morgan is the Lifestyle Director - she is always taking them on trips to eat, community bingo, veteran events, etc as well as daily activities of all types to keep the residents engaged and having a fun time. Well where do I start, mom has been in a private room in the cottage for over a year and a half. I or my sister visit every day, never do I see house keeping in the cottage. My sister or I have had to complain about the lack of cleanliness of mom’s floor. Then house keeping will come, this has happened twice in 1.5 years and those are the only two times mom’s floor has been mopped!! The staff is nice and willing to help, but why should I have to ask! At several thousand dollars every month mom should have a spotless room/floor. Never have soiled/wet under clothing. There have been times in the past would get there mom would have soiled pull up that had been there longer than a few minutes. Some days mom would have on the same gown for days. Now there have been good days where they were on top of things and mom was clean. There are a couple of the CNAs that have really taken to mom and go the extra mile and we are extremely thankful for this! I could go on but I will stop. Not sure how things are up front in the regular rooms, so I can’t speak on that. After many complaints and contacting corporate things have improved some but still not the thousands of dollars every month.

You might say I have a lot of experience with long term care facilities. My Mother, Father and Mother in law all needed assisted living or memory care in their later years. In the process of transitioning them from home to the assisted living life, I interviewed and visited numerous facilities, and learned a lot about what makes for a caring, safe, and supportive environment for our loved ones in need of such care. They are all deceased now, but during their last few years of life I also got a first hand look at how these facilities operate. Later, when the time came for a favorite uncle to transition to a long term care facility, we chose Spring Arbor of Albemarle. It was superior in every respect to the three other facilities I had direct and personal experience with - the quality and low turnover of the truly compassionate staff; the professionalism and integrity of their business practices; the consistent sincerity of the affection and care they provided - over years, not weeks or months; the safety of the facility and a peaceful pastoral setting are all hallmarks of Spring Arbor. No one relishes the idea of spending their last years in a long term care facility, but if such a need arises, for you or a parent, you will be providentially fortunate if you land at Spring Arbor. The staff is very professional, kind and caring not only to the people in the facility but to the whole family. Always a warm welcome with updates about the individual and genuine concern. Activities and trips are great and our family member was on board for every outing he could possibly attend. Many of the celebrations include family. The staff and residents get all dressed up in outfits to suit the occasion, the building, the building is decorated, while the food and treats they serve are delicious. The meal time at Spring Arbor is another treat. The dining room is very attractive and their menu can’t be beat. Family members can join their loved one for a meal. The medical attention and physical needs for your loved one is top priority. It is a relief to know they are being cared for and you are notified immediately if there is a concern. Music entertainment provided with special guest as well as Sunday Service with guest speakers and Pastors. Halloween is always fun! Other special events throughout the year carefully planned by the activities Director are exceptional! The Administrator is always available, pleasant, approachable, compassionate and makes sure all needs are met for both staff and residents and their families. The business manager arranges flowers and decorates to add a charming home environment in addition to being very knowledgeable with her daily duties. Got a question about your account? Ask her and she can help! Need physical therapy? One is just down the hallway with an open gym. This team works together to make residents feel at home. My step-mother was a resident there and to this day she still tells me how much she enjoyed it and made new friends. She still goes back to visit. Highly recommend this facility over any other! Spring Arbor of Albemarle has an Amazing Maintenance Director. He is on call 24/7. He redoes every room and gets it ready when a new resident is moving in. He keeps the building and equipment in running order. Not only does he maintain the building he also manages housekeeping and laundry. Among those duties he often takes residents to doctor appointments. He is kind to the residents and watches over them as though they are his family.

Jeff in maintenance always goes above and beyond for his employees and residents. I cannot tell you how many times he has dropped everything to fix a car so his employee has transportation to work. Jeff is definitely the glue holding the facility together.

We have been very pleased with the level of care and compassion that has been provided for my brother at Spring Arbor. He has mild dementia and is treated with respect. He receives regular physical therapy to help with his walking difficulties. I get regular phone calls from the medical staff to report on his health parameters.

Choosing a place for my mom to move into because of her safety was the hardest decision I have had to make but I have been so pleased with the staff and environment at Spring Arbor Albemarle NC. I have always heard positive things about Spring Arbor, but when Mom had to come to the memory care unit, we had a slightly different experience. Mom has Alzheimer's and didn't always want to cooperate with taking her meds. That meant mom was a "problem". Mom didn't always want to cooperate with getting a shower or changing her pull-up, again that meant mom was difficult. They didn't seem to understand that Mom was never "difficult" but it was the disease we were up against. Things with mom's cooperation have improved. But mom requires more care and well she doesn't get exactly what we want and we are trying hard to be patient as we know there are other residents that require care as well. But when your mom has sat in a dirty pull-up for hours, or hasn't had a shower in 6 days (should have 3-4 a week). This is very frustrating to say the least. When my sister and I voice our concerns, we are labeled problem family. We are not well received because we are there daily/at minimum 4-6 times a week, and will voice what is needed or ask questions. For the most part the CNA's are great, it's the management that sucks. So if your loved one is just in need to medication management or a little help then you will enjoy Spring Arbor. Just know you must be an advocate for your loved one, you must be their voice! That's what we will continue to do!

My family and I were caring for an elderly couple in 2016 that were like family to us. Both had a brief stay at Spring Arbor that year. She passed 3 months after leaving. He had been diagnosed with dementia and after his wife passed we struggled with how to ensure he was taken care of daily, while we worked or had to be out of town. Spring Arbor to the rescue! The staff literally welcomed him back with open arms, hugs, and smiles. The staff treated him like their father and grandfather. This was his home for six and a half years. The staff are wonderful at making every holiday and occasion specialeven if he didn’t want to. If we ever had issues or questions, they always worked with us to find a resolution. We lost him in May of this year and we can’t express the gratitude and appreciation we will always have for Spring Arbor. My family and I all agree, we had him with us as long as we did, because of the care he received at Spring Arbor. We understand the guilt and thought process that goes into placing a loved one in an assisted living facility, but we have no regrets for choosing Spring Arbor. No place is home, but Spring Arbor is as close as it gets.
