Reviews HeartFields Assisted Living at Frederick
October 2024
Heartfields is staffed with pleasant, helpful, caring people that work well together as team players. It is clean and cheerful with a beautiful outdoor courtyard. There is a great variety of food and plenty of activities. PT/OT is on sight and many other services come to you-vaccines, haircuts, dentistry, dermatology, etc. Super convenient. If you do need to leave for a doctor's appt., you can arrange wheelchair transport in a van. I am relieved to know that my Dad is being well cared for. My Dad has been in the Bridge to Recovery Memory Unit for 6 months. Peace of mind is priceless!

My parents are in their 90s and as much as my sister, brother, our spouses, and I did to keep them in their own home, it wasn't enough. It became obvious that their care and needs were beyond what we could provide, but having experienced other "facilities" with other aging family members, it wasn't something we wanted for our beloved parents until we visited Heartfields. Heartfields was so welcoming, from our first tour to everyone's help moving in and all the coordination in between. In no time at all, Heartfields felt like home not only to mom and dad but to us all! We have peace of mind knowing they are being cared for not only by such a skilled staff but by staff members that truely care about them. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, kind and compassionate. I feel like arms are wrapped around me when I enter Hearfields. It is so hard caring for aging parents even tougher to make the decision to move them into an assistant living community. Heartfields has been a blessing and I do get emotional thinking about how well my parents are being cared for. Now when I go to visit I don't have to be the caregiver, I can go visit and just be their daughter thanks to the entire staff at Heartfields. I highly recommend that if you are facing the daunting task of finding a great place to move your loved ones you must visit Heartfields for yourself.

In Nov. 2019, I moved my dear father to his new home at Heartfields Assisted Living in Frederick. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. His dementia made it clear he was no longer safe and able to live in his home alone. Within weeks it was evident that the staff there consider and love their residents like family. We were immediately very active visiting Dad, and became regulars at Heartfields. We were there often with Dad, visiting, talking to staff and residents, nurses, food service and maintenance and business office staff. They work as a team...and it shows. Everyone is friendly and warm. I must also share one of the most meaningful things I have observed.... .....Heartfields continues to handle the COVID pandemic and the safety and emotional well being of their residents and staff in an exemplary manner. While COVID was no stranger to their door, and my own father contracted COVID, their care of him and others was touching. At a time when I wasnt allowed to be there, I felt reassured that they were following the regulations set forth by the state of MD and local Health Dept. for the protection and safety of those in their care. Their communications about COVID cases, vaccines, visiting and general info. were forthcoming, direct and timely. Lastly, if you are considering a home for a family member, I would encourage you to visit and see for yourself...the family feel, love and care is noticeable......Be present and active ...your senior needs you.....and you too will become part of a wonderful new family at Heartfields!

My mother resided here for 4 years. Their director is a registered nurse and has been at the facility for over 20 years. Compared to similar facilities, staff appear to have a positive retention rate which gives residents a sense of familiarity and confidence in care along with a family atmosphere. Meals are tailored to individual desires, presented attractively and with attention to nutritional needs. Rooms are kept clean and personalized nursing staff is attentive to residents needs and ancillary care by different care practices is available. A variety of recreational opportunities are available and tailored to the individual. The personalized care offered was of great importance to us. Our time at this facility was definitely positive.

Heartfields was the absolute best care for my Aunt Karen when we moved her from Baltimore to Frederick to be close to family. My Aunt suffered from a very rare disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and the staff at Heartfields did an amazing job caring for her during her last year or so in life. The staff took the time to get to know my Aunt and family and everyone was always so friendly while we were there visiting. They were quick to call if something happened to my Aunt and always kept us informed on how she was doing. They truly helped keep her comfortable until she was ready to go home to the Lord. I appreciate everyone that worked with my Aunt there and also the staff from Sheppards Staff who also helped care for her too. I miss seeing everyone at HeartFields and would recommend them if you are looking for a place for your loved one to call home.

The staff go out of their way to be kind and helpful. Its a beautiful place and small enough for everyone to know each other. If you or someone you love need assisted living, this is a place that will make you feel good about your choice. We have one relative living here and the staff care about the rest of the family and always make us all feel welcome.

Best Assisted Living Facility in Frederick!!
August 2020
Kind but inadequately staffed assisted living facility with little to no dementia training to serve their residents. Few daily activities are actually carried out dispite their calendar. Local entertainers and musicians frequently entertain residents in the common living room area.

Our family is grateful for the exceptional care that our mother is receiving at HeartFields. Hopefully, each staff member knows how much they contribute to her wellbeing, and to everyone else in our family too. Many thanks to you!

I have had the pleasure of visiting Heartfields many times for networking events and also to visit clients that moved there after we cared for them in their home and each time I have seen happy residents in a safe and welcome environment.

Im so happy we were able to have Mom move into Heartfields. The staff there is so nice making it easier for her to adjust to her new home. The community is smaller than most and more personable. She enjoys all the activities they provide. I feel Mom is receiving the best of care there. I highly recommend Heartfields of Frederick for anyone needing senior care.

Huge Thank you to the Heartfields team. They went above and beyond in helping the Frederick Senior Center celebrate Older Americans Month. Chef Lori prepared a wonderful Taste of Spain dinner. Everything was delicious, and the event ran without a hitch. Nothing but compliments from the 100 person crowd that enjoyed the evening. Thanks again for all your support!
May 2019
In February of this year Mom had a bad heart incident (shed had a heart attack in Oct 2014). This time she was hospitalized for a time, and then sent to a rehab near her home in NJ, as she was not able to care for herself at all. This really escalated her dementia. Luckily a few years back, she allowed us to get power of attorney and we start looking for an assisted living facility in Maryland. She lived in NJ at the time. We were hoping it wouldnt be so soon, but it was. She went from essentially living at home to needing full-time care. Holding any type of lengthy conversation was just not possible, let alone cooking, feeding herself and the like. We were able to move her to Heartfields of Frederick this past March. At that time, she was unable to walk or even help herself in and out of bed. She needed a lift to assist her. Due to this she was moved into the Memory Care unit. Soon after arriving she developed pneumonia and spent a week in the hospital. Her mental state improved dramatically after her discharge and with the advice of her cardiologist they reduced one of her medications. The changes in her, and her recovery were dramatic. I asked the Resident Services Director, Garland Boltz, if Mom was now aware enough to move out of the memory unit into the assisted living section. She immediately agreed, and Mom was moved. The change has been as dramatic with her return as it was for her decline. Shes going through physical therapy and learning to walk with a walker (she was wheelchair bound for 8+ months). When I visit she and I talk for an hour at a time. Shes also making friends with the other residents. Its great that shes back!

We found Heartfields for my father last year when his dementia had progressed to such a point that independent living in another facility was no longer possible. While other facilities we looked at insisted that he be put immediately into memory care or outright refused him for difficult behaviors, Heartfields welcomed him into their assisted living, where he was able to keep a beloved cat that helped to keep him grounded, live in a room where loved ones could spend the night, and keep some level of independence. I spent a great deal of time at Heartfields and found all of their staff to be attentive, caring, and responsive. The size of the facility meant that everyone received individual care. And when hospice became necessary, they provided my father and all of us who loved him with a loving and peaceful environment and continued support. I cannot recommend Heartfields enough to families with loved ones struggling with dementia.

Discovering Heartfields Assisted Living at Frederick, Maryland, has been a blessing not only for our family but also for Mom. The staff goes above and beyond all of my expectations in their gentle care and personal interest in her health and happiness. Mom especially likes the varied entertainment programs, group sing-a-longs, walking and exercise programs and loves the attention she receives when the staff calls her by name and prepares her favorite breakfast of scrambled eggs! Management has definitely set the bar very high and it shows up in everyone on the staff!

My Mom has lived here for 7 1, 2 years and they have been very accommodating to us. Im here visiting almost every day and know the staff well. They are kind and caring to her. They have actually saved her life a few years back.
January 2019
I found Heartfields Bridges to Rediscovery over a year ago when the assisted living community where my mother was living was not adequate for her needs. I was immediately drawn to this small caring community, with a homelike feel and knew it would be the best placement for mom. My mom needed a secure environment but also needed the ability to still feel independent. The secure outside area was perfect for her to walk or just sit on the shaded porch and enjoy the flowers and birds. The staff genuinely cares for my mom and because of the small community everyone gets to know one another, making it feel like a family.
January 2019
First rate facility and willing to accommodate all needs. Sad to have to move my sister but selfishly want her closer to me. Inclement weather required a delay and the staff was so helpful and generous keeping her a few extra days! My sister feels like shes leaving her second family. We all highly recommend this facility!
July 2018
It is with appreciation and gratitude that I offer this commendation of the management and staff at Heartfields Assisted Living in Frederick, Maryland. My mother-in-law has been a resident at Heartfields for eight years, and my father was a resident for three years prior to that. Throughout these years, the management at Heartfields—particularly Anita Evans, has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, providing careful attention to the needs of our loved ones and offering immediate and successful response to any requests for assistance and advice. Without fail, we confidently counted on the management to ensure the maintenance of high-quality care and attention to the individual needs of the residents. Likewise, the nursing staff, guided throughout the years by Sue McLane, has been consistently superb—extremely knowledgeable, professional, dedicated, and sensitive to the needs of the residents and family. The nursing staff always worked with us to assure the high quality of medical care that they provided, consulting with us, advising us, answering our questions, and interacting with all the external health care professionals who attended to our parents. The caretakers, under the able guidance of Melissa Rohrbach, always performed their challenging duties responsibly and with clear caring and affection for the residents—also working constantly with us to assess and respond to the individual needs of the residents. And upon entering the facility or contacting via phone, the admin staff made one feel welcome and demonstrated eagerness to help. All the staff shared a common spirit of integrity, dedication, compassion, and cooperation—toward the residents and toward their families. Our parents have passed, but we are greatly comforted by the knowledge that we found a marvelous place where they could receive superb care in a supportive environment. After all these years, we consider the Heartfields staff as family, because that is the way they treated us and our parents. Jim McGee
March 2018
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Small enough to feel like home. Its easy to see why they always have a waiting list. When my parents are ready to leave their home, Heartfields is my first and only choice in Frederick.
November 2017
Very caring staff. Small facility where staff and residents really get to know one another. More like a family than a facility.
August 2017
I visit my 100 1, 2 year old Father several times each week. His quarters exceed expectations (his own words). As we watch a 2 hour-long DVD (drawn from the 1930s-1950s with subtitles), a nurse assistant shows up about twice to check on Fathers well-being. As I depart, Father presses a button and someone appears, generally before I reach the door to his quarters. Heartfields at Frederick offers age-peer companionship at meals which is something I could not do at home. There is transportation to and from his various medical appointments: Father thoroughly enjoys the ride. Both of my out-of-state my sisters have visited Father, and we plan to eat with him at Heartfields during the Holidays. Reception is also, always welcoming to me. Two thumbs Up! --John George (Frederick, MD)
