Reviews Laurelwood at The Pinehills
August 2026
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Laurelwood at The Pinehills and the incredible care they provided for my father. During such a difficult chapter of our family’s lives, the compassion, patience, and dedication shown by the entire team brought us so much comfort. The staff treated my father with genuine kindness and dignity, always seeing the person behind the memory loss. They went above and beyond to make him feel safe, cared for, and loved. Their communication with our family, attention to detail, and willingness to support us through every step meant more than words can express. Caring for a loved one with memory challenges is never easy, but knowing my father was surrounded by people who truly cared made all the difference. We will forever be grateful to the Laurelwood team for the love and care they gave him. Thank you for everything you do for residents and their families. You are truly making a difference. With gratitude, The Hallisey Family ™

Moving Mom to Laurelwood wasn't just a decision; it was a massive relief. After touring countless facilities, I wanted the absolute best for her, and Laurelwood delivers on every level. The grounds and amenities are five-star, but the real soul of the place is the people. I could talk all day about the building, but a company is only as good as its heartbeat”the staff. Susan (Executive Director): She runs the property with a rare combination of deep experience and genuine passion. She is exceptional. Brenda (Sales Director): I was an emotional wreck during my three visits. Brenda met me with compassion but kept it direct, which I truly needed. She promised me Mom would be settled, making friends, and happy within a month. She was 100% right. Jane (Social Director): Jane is the heart of the social scene. She’s humble, kind, and takes a sincere interest in every resident. Susie (Culinary Director): You’ll find Susie out among the residents, not just tucked away in the kitchen. She handles specific, often "tall order" requests with a smile. They are lucky to have her. Marybeth (Front Desk): She is the first voice you hear and the first smile you see. She manages a mountain of diverse responsibilities with incredible grace. Bill (Facilities): Bill is a patient saint. He’s been a helping hand since day one, always attentive and clearly in love with what he does. Susan (Hairstylist): She has magical hands and a gift for making her clients feel beautiful in a warm, professional space. Then there are the "Angels on Earth." To Melissa, Bev, Stephanie, Nancy, Emily, Leanne, Charlotte, Brian, Shelly, Jeanine, Margaret, Heather, Mackenzie, and Sandy (and the many names I’m surely missing): thank you. You bring light, humor, and constant acts of kindness into my mom’s life daily. The environment here is defined by warmth. The residents are so inviting that Mom felt like family from day one. She isn't just living at Laurelwood; she is happy and thriving. It is the perfect fit, and I recommend it without reservation. Thank you for everything you do.

Beautiful community, excellent team! Brenda is an asset to the Laurelwood community--making everyone feel welcome with every last detail. She is committed to service and leadership. As a professional partner, it's wonderful knowing I can trust Brenda and her team.

When you have to make a decision for someone you love, it’s never easy. You worry, is it going to work. Is he going to be happy? My family and I moved my Uncle to Laurelwood several months ago. He’s always been a very independent person and we wanted to honor that. My Uncle was like a father, brother and friend to me so I wanted the very best for him. The caregivers are amazing and have figured out beautifully how to honor his independence. The Director Team was so supportive of me and my family and continue to be. Truth be told, I’ve been in senior living for my entire career and I have very high expectations. I am so relieved to see Jay thriving, happy and well cared for. Thank you to the entire Laurelwood team and to Northbridge for staying true to your mission.
December 2025
Our family couldn’t be more grateful for the care our Uncle receives at Avita. From the very first day, the staff welcomed us with warmth, patience, and genuine compassion. They truly understand the challenges of memory loss and treat every resident with dignity and respect. It’s clear that this isn’t just a job for them”they genuinely care. The home is clean, calm, and thoughtfully designed to make residents feel safe and comfortable. We’ve seen such a positive difference in our loved one’s mood and well-being since moving here, and that peace of mind means everything to our family. We highly recommend this community to anyone looking for excellent memory care and a team you can truly trust.

When someone asks when is a good time to look at assisted living I always answer when it is still your decision. My wife and I did extensive research on facilities and settled in Laurelwood at the Pinehills. After a little over a year as residents, it is comforting to say that we made the right decision. Everything that we expected has been delivered and in many cases exceeded our expectations. The staff is great, facility modern and the overall atmosphere is wonderful. We are so happy with our decision and look forward to many years of gracious living at Laurelwood.
October 2025
After looking at5 assisted living facilities, we decided that Laurelwood was best for us. The 4 others were nice but they didn’t offer the same opportunities as Laurelwood. The staff and facilities are exceptional. Brenda was so helpful to us in selecting a unit that would best suit our needs. Sue was also very helpful in introducing us to the facilities at Laurelwood. Without hesitation or reservation, we feel that Laurelwood is the best facility to support seniors looking for the best retirement community .

My mother moved to Laurelwood in January 2025 and could not be happier with her decision. She raves about the amazing meals, attentive and friendly staff, and the camaraderie that she has felt among the residents who welcomed her with open arms on day one. As an only child, I'm happy when she is happy and I have the security of knowing she is well cared for in a secure and loving environment. She has truly blossomed at Laurelwood and is the happiest I've seen her in quite some time. Thank you for providing her with such a great place live and thrive!
June 2025
I have lived at Laurelwood for almost four years now, and I’m grateful for the security and support and companionship this community provides. We see changes and challenges, all met with efforts by the staff in our best interests. We are fortunate to have the administration, the whole staff, and the food service that we do, as well as fellow residents who make life interesting! Our daily calendar of events provides the opportunity for every kind of activity geared to our interests and abilities and stimulation. In short, I recommend Laurelwood!

Awesome! Special thanks to Jane and Brian with ACTIVITIES and the resident Marci who volunteered to be our HUMAN DUMMY. ™™ Liam The Leprechaun & Friends continued our St. Patrick's weekend musical ventriloquist comedy performances at Laurelwood at The Pinehills on 3/17/25 St. Patrick's Day. Liam is not a real leprechaun, but he is a real dummy.

Salli and I moved to Laurelwood early in 2024, moving from a large assisted living facility north of Boston. The contrast has been extraordinary. The staff of Laurelwood have been unanimously committed to making our lives happy. Nothing seems too much to ask of the staff, and we have been royally treated. The food is excellent. One of the most important staff characteristics is their sense of humor - living here is fun, with lots to do and good friends, both residents and staff, to enjoy. Coming here was a wondefrful decision!! - Dan Chamberlin

Moving my mother to Avita at Laurelwood was the best decision I’ve ever made. She has improved tremendously. The environment is happy, clean, supportive, loving and truly uplifting. The employees are amazing and have proven repeatedly to have the best interest of the residents. I go every day to see my mother and in the countless times I have been there my heart is full of gratitude in the care I see.

My mother lived at Laurelwood for 5 years. It is a beautiful facility with an exceptionally caring and professional staff. A very upbeat setting with lots of activities.
January 2025
We assited with my aunt's move to Laurelwood last month and my husband and I cannot say enough about how positive an experience it has been. Prior to her moving to Laurelwood, she was encouraged to come by for lunch and to participate in whatever activities interested her and my aunt did just that! Getting to know the staff and fellow residents in advance made my aunt's transition so smooth. At move in, she was familiar and relaxed about her new apartment and the Laurelwood community as a whole. My aunt raves about the high quality of the meals, as do I. I've enjoyed a few meals with her and the chef is top notch! I was concerned prior to her move that she might resist engaging with other residents once there, but we have experienced the helpfulness of all staff and their encouraging her to join in on so many social activities. There is always someone popping by to check on her wellness, her needs in the moment or to let her know what's going on. She is truly experiencing a new sense of independence at Laurelwood with wonderful neighbors who enjoy the many things she does. In my aunt's words, "It's great here!" We are thrilled!
December 2024
I’m writing on behalf of my dad, who moved into Laurelwood, and immediately was welcomed with open arms by the residents and staff. From the intake to the move-in date, the sales team and coordinators were so helpful to make the process as smooth as possible. On day one, he met up with a group who saved him a seat at the dinner table and invited him to join their trivia team. Happy hours, corn hole, music, sports talks and bingo keep my dad busy and he is loving every minute of it. Not to mention that the place itself is physically beautiful; it’s in the gorgeous Pine Hills in Plymouth, MA. The food is top-notch, and the whole atmosphere has been way more than we even expected.

June 2024
My Mom lived at Laurelwood for close to 4 years. The entire staff including the administration could not have been more supportive of my Mom and our family. I truly cannot say enough about how great this place is. The food is excellent. The staff is always friendly. Most importantly, they went above and beyond to provide my Mom with the support she needed. This place is full of Grace and it was a Blessing to my Mom and my family. Thank You to everyone at Laurelwood!!
March 2024
From the first day when I arrived here, I felt as though I was cared for so well that I felt like I was a member of a great big family. The staff is so friendly and welcoming and helpful whenever you need something. The residents are also very friendly and welcoming and fun to be with. We have a daily list of activities that we can participate in if we so wish. And lastly, we are a group of people who are very happy to be here.
March 2024
Walking in says it all. Bright, cheerful & welcoming. Then you discover the plethora of activities run by Jane Argyle the ever so kind British lady. Lots of smiles & humor floating around. A Home away from home is the best description I can add.
March 2024
This is a great facility and the staff took great care of my sister for many years. They tailored activities to things she could do including golf, painting and ping pong. The interaction between staff and residents was always respectful and at times playful. I highly recommend this facility. Julie
March 2024
Our family has deep appreciation for the love and support my parents have received at their residence at Laurelwood. The staff there all made the end of my Dad's life so comfortable and special. I know that my Mom will continue to be well taken care of and has the love and support of all her new-found friends there.
October 2023
Laurelwood is a terrific place that is easily described as like college without homework! But getting started was not easy because neither my wife or I wanted to leave our beautiful Pinehills home. However, at then 82, it became increasingly clear, we needed a change and waiting would only make the eventual move more difficult. Laurelwood was a wonderful help in this process. I looked at assisted living residencies all over the South Shore and in North Carolina where our Son and his Family live. We also looked hard at Cape Cod where we had summered and then lived for 40 years. Some places were close, but none fully compared to Laurelwood. But importantly, after our visit Laurelwood visit, there was never any pressure, and we took over a year to make the move. But during that time, it was great to come for lunch as often as we wanted while considering. Upfront I should say my wife was not in favor of this change. But she now says this is pretty nice, isn’t it? Her attitude change was very important as Sue came here on a walker needing a new knee. I cannot imagine how we would have handled her recovery in our previous home on our own. Since moving here, I have had two very telling health surprises. The first was when a PT specialist showed up unannounced in our apartment. She said the nursing staff had noticed my walking was a little wobbly (after a back operation). She was there to start me on balance retraining! I had already talked to my back doctor about another operation. Today I told his office I will not need it. The second health surprise was even more surprising (because I knew my balance was deteriorating. I came to Laurelwood on two blood pressure medicines to keep me in the 120/65 range (way down from years ago). Until three weeks ago when I fell twice in the practice sand trap, I did not know my blood pressure was much lower. After daily consulting with the Laurelwood nursing staff and my doctor, I’m off all blood pressure prescriptions and today my readings were perfect.

I would like to thank the amazing staff at Laurelwood for the way they have welcomed my mom. A huge thanks to Susan and Brenda for helping to accelerate the move-in process every step of the way. The helpful and friendly front desk team, the wonderful dining room chef and staff, the nursing- and activities team and the quick help of the maintenance team, I was so overwhelmed!
September 2023
Anyone who has a loved one with cognitive impairment knows how worrisome it can be making sure they are properly taken care of; that being said look no further than Avita at Laurelwood. From the day we toured the facility, to the move in, to the continued outstanding care she receives around the clock has been amazing. The staff love what they do and it shows in every interaction with the residents. The director Alison immediately wanted to learn more about my mom and her past so that staff could engage her more. The staff has learned not only about her but our family as well. My families experience has been nothing short of excellent! I highly recommend Avita at Laurelwood.
March 2023
My father moved in July 2022 after living alone for 5 years since my mother passed. He was becoming lonely and forgetful. He was very active his whole life and in the community he moved from. He has blossomed at Laurelwood and continues to be happy every day! The staff are outstanding from marketing/sales, nursing, physician, dining and cleaning services and front desk. Everyone I encounter is pleasant, professional and cares about their residents. There is a daily posting of events from morning to evening and something for everyone. He even started his own group! He has met new friends and feels comfortable in a new place. A shuttle takes them to the market and local events. They continue to be proactive with COVID precautions and ensuring the residents and staff are protected. My family and I have peace of mind knowing our father is safe and enjoying his senior years. I am a nurse and highly recommend Laurelwood for your loved ones!
March 2023
We moved my father into assisted living a few months ago and, since being at Laurelwood, he’s thrived and has become the best version of himself in many years! This is absolutely a credit to the amazingly caring and uplifting staff, the beautiful and very well maintained property, and the uplifting interactions between the residents and staff. EVERYONE is ALWAYS welcoming and positive, and it’s such a relief to know that my dad is in great hands, happily enjoying life again! Laurelwood also always has lots of fun opportunities for the people living there and their families I truly love visiting! Thank you, Laurelwood, for making a life-changing transition such a pleasant, positive, and easy experience!
March 2023
I arrived at Laurelwood on March 10th, 2023 after several weeks in the hospital and rehab following a stroke on 1/29/23. My intention in coming to Laurelwood is to solidify the recovery progress I have made as well as making additional progress so that I can return to my home and live independently. Laurelwood was the perfect choice for me. Wonderful staff, at all levels, who all have kind and generous spirits... Delicious food and a kitchen team who will always make you an "off menu item" if you do not like what they are serving. Great fellow residents. A mix of ages and life experiences who warmly greet you and welcome you to join them. Incredible Activities Director and team. You can be as busy or quiet as suits you on any given day. Well done Laurelwood team!
March 2023

July 2022
My Mom has been living at Laurelwood for the past three (3) years, and unlike when she was living on her own, I now can rest easy knowing that she is in good hands, and that if anything were to happen the could potentially hurt her, she will be taken care of. I can now sleep at night again.
July 2022
Laurelwood is the perfect place for my mom. It's a bright, modern building in a lovely area, so you feel welcomed as soon as you walk in. My mother's apartment has high ceilings, so it has a feeling of spaciousness. There are so many interesting and fun activities, so she's never bored. The food is top notch. Above all, the staff is kind and helpful. My mother uprooted herself from her home to come to Massachusetts to live near me. I was concerned that she would never feel quite at home. Now, a year later, she indeed feels at home in this lovely community.
June 2022
We were very impressed with everything in Laurelwood! The staff was very pleasant and helpful with all our needs and questions. I would strongly recommend it!
June 2022
Nothing but the highest recommendation for the folks at Laurelwood! My mom has lived here for over a year and it has been a great experience on all counts. Sue, Brenda, Suzie and the entire leadership team have done an outstanding job of creating a supportive and positive culture that permeates every activity. Everyone who works here greets you with a smile, happy to help with whatever you need “ even if it’s not their job, and goes out of their way to provide the best experience for every member of the community. We have looked at and experienced a wide variety of senior living communities from Virginia to Massachusetts and Laurelwood stands head and shoulders above all of them!
June 2022
My aunt moved into Avita in Laurelwood at The Pinehills five months ago and we immediately noticed a difference in her energy level, communication, appetite, and level of happiness. She easily became friends with other residents through shared exercise classes, activities, and meals. She continues to rave about the food and she makes a point of saying how much she appreciates the time the chef puts into the meals. She loves the staff and is very comfortable with all of them, and the variety of activities available to everyone each day is amazing. My aunt has been on many off-site outings including a trip to an art gallery, a drive through of a horse farm, going out to eat, and most recently she went to Heritage Museums and Gardens, and a Canal Cruise. As a family we are so thankful for the staff who have been responsible for her happiness, keeping her busy, exercising, eating well, engaged in life again, safe, and independent to make choices but fully supported throughout the day as needed. I have told many co-workers and friends about Avita in Laurelwood. It has been great for my aunt to be in a safe environment and to experience being social and active again after a few years of living alone and not fully enjoying life.
June 2022
Laurelwood is a very comfortable place and is like a second home to me. Staff and management are very friendly. Would recommend!
June 2022
My mom and aunt have lived at Laurelwood for almost a year now, and we could not be happier with how much their quality of life has improved. It is such incredible peace of mind for our whole extended family to know that they are in a comfortable, safe, stimulating and caring environment. The food is excellent, the activities and entertainment are wonderful, and most of all, the staff is warm, kind and communicative with both them and us. My mom and aunt are so very pleased with this new chapter of their lives, as are we all!
June 2022
My experience with Laurelwood, as an option for my mother, began almost 5 years ago. Our introduction to the staff, the facility, and their philosophy was heartwarming and we knew it was the right place for our mother to transition to her new home; at age 87; change does not come easy but her adjustment took no time to settle in. Her independent living experience was wonderful, but as time passed we were encouraged to consider Laurelwood’s Memory Care in Avita. Mom is now 92, safe, we’ll cared for, and still active with all that the staff provides. It was the right decision for our family and one we would recommend for those considering a change for peace of mind, and continued vitality in their life.
June 2022
Laurelwood at the Pinehills is a an upbeat community. Their staff is a very cohesive group who consistently work towards caring for their residents with joy, compassion and a sense of humor! My clients who live at Laurelwood are very happy and their families are grateful for the community. What you see on the tour is really the true experience of what it is like to like there. Highly recommend for both traditional and memory care assisted living.
June 2022
Making the decision to move a loved one into a memory care facility is not an easy one. Lots of research and soul searching go into it as well as praying you're making the right choice. Just last year I was faced with that dilemma. Various properties were visited, services reviewed and personnel interviewed. When it came down to just where my husband should live the only one that I felt confident in giving him a quality life, a beautiful, clean and spacious living environment, and most importantly loving care was Laurelwood at The Pinehills. I have not been disappointed and in many ways they have exceeded my expectations. It takes a unique type of individual to care for those with dementia. I call them earth angels and Laurelwood has found and employs these special people. My husband Ron loves it there and for that I will be eternally grateful.
June 2022
My dad had a second stroke at 83 that left him with not only aphasia but a very limited ability to speak. There was simply no way he could continue to live alone anymore as he couldn’t drive and couldn’t communicate without great difficulty. After using the fabulous service A Place for Mom (Yes they help dads too), it became obvious that he would need an assisted living facility. Laurelwood at the Pinehills was one of the places recommended and after my initial visit I knew it was the right fit for my dad. The building itself from the outside is amazing and just very beautiful. It reminds me of a Norman Rockwell country inn setting with its front covered porch sitting area where the residents often come out and sit and chat. And the interior is just as stunning as you walk in, again with the feel of more of an atrium of a four star hotel. The rooms are well amended with options for one or two room units, and there are couples that live comfortably together. Each unit has the feel of a condo, often with good views of the Pinehills greenery outside though the large windows. The food at the restaurant style dining area is simply amazing and could rival any good eatery on Cape Cod. But aside from all of that, the real strength of Laurelwood is its people. Director Sue McKenna’s team is warm, sincere, and welcoming. They immediately work with you to ensure your loved one will not only be well cared for, but treated with humility and respect as well. My dad had no bedroom set initiallynot a problem. Brenda the marketing director reassured my sister and I that he could borrow a full bedroom set until we could get one ourselves. Jeannine, head of the caregiving professionals, assessed my dad’s total situation with an interview that was thorough and compassionate. I was very happy to find out later that she told Sue, We have to get this man here, he’ll fit right in with the residents. And the folks that live there are amazing as well, they’re more than just residents, but a family of people who look out for one another and truly care for each other as well. They made a point of going out of their way to ask me about my dad’s background as well as his wants and needs because of his limited communication abilities. The end result from both them and the fabulous staff has been great personal relationships my dad has formed with friends there as well as caregivers. I couldn’t be happier with everything Laurelwood has to offer and feel very confident with the peace of mind in knowing that he’s not only well taken care of, but thriving among people who both work and live there. Laurelwood at The Pinehills has simply been the perfect fit for my Dad.
June 2022
This is a really great place. I moved my elderly father into the facility in August, 2021 and my family and I are very glad we did. The place itself is lovely and, even more importantly, the entire staff is phenomenal. They truly care about the well being of their residents and it's evident in everything they do. My Dad can be a bit difficult at times and the staff is completely professional and truly compassionate. It's never easy making a decision to move an elderly loved one into an assisted living facility but Laurelwood was definitely the right decision for us. Thank you, Laurelwood, for all you do!!
June 2022
My mother just had a 6 month stay here and I can not say enough about the place and staff. My mother was always so happy to see everyone and vice versa when we would take her out for the day and return her back. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. After my mother left and went to a nursing home, a few of the aides and nursing staff visited her to see how she was. I was overwhelmed by that. I would recommend Laurelwood to anybody. Plus its so convenient with all the amenities that PineHills has to offer. We could take my mom out of the memory care facility and grab breakfast, lunch and dinner all within the complex. Super convenient. Most importantly she loved it here.
June 2022
Amazing! The loving care my mother received while living at Laurelwood is second to none. The staff is phenomenal. She was treated as if she was everyone's favorite grandmother. The staff to resident ratio is second to none. The staff truly love the residents and I loved knowing she was in a safe and loving environment. As a nurse myself I have never seen this level of care in all my 40 in the profession.

I can't say enough about the care this wonderful place provides. The staff is so helpful and caring. They attend to every need of the residents and provide a lot of support for caregivers as well. In addition, it is a beautiful and well run place.

My husband and I recently moved up to Massachusetts from NJ to be closer to my boys, who married Boston girls and were starting families of their own. We decided to move to the Pinehills area and needed an independent living facility for my mom-she is a social butterfly who needs people and activities in order to thrive. I found the Laurelwood within the Pinehills and it was close to my new home. It was the best decision. The staff has been nothing less than helpful and are very caring, the facility is clean and well kept, the food is excellent and the social activities keep mom hopping. She is very happy and I can't say enough about life here both for her and for me. It is one less thing for me to worry about. It is wonderful for her to be near her family and her great grandchildren and be able to see them on a more regular basis.

When it's apparent that it is time to look into assisted/independent living and memory care options for a parent or a loved one, it's surely one of the most difficult decisions to make. But there does come a time when it's not a matter of "if", but "when". When we arrived at this point with my Mom, we looked into five different places. Laurelwood makes it very easy to make the decision. It was hands down, the very best option on so many levels. The facility is pristine, it's very cozy and warm feeling, it's small enough where everyone seems to know each other's name. The staff is incredible. Everyone goes far above and beyond.. This goes from the van driver, to the chef, to the sales people (who mingle regularly with the residents), to the director, the staff that cleans the apartments, the activities director, the nurses... I could go on. In just the few months Mom has been there I've had the opportunity to meet them all as they've all become a part of Mom's life at Laurelwood. She's happy, she has the best meals, she has so many options with many diverse activities, she does exercise class each day, takes the van to church on Sunday, is always talking about her friends there... We have clearly made the best possible choice. Finally, when we bring her to a family event, she is always "ready to go home"... Back to Laurelwood.

My aunt moved to Laurelwood 3 years ago and is thriving there. With its welcoming, condo-like vibe, Laurelwood was our hands-down favorite as we mulled over various facility options. Honestly, I think her health has improved with the tasty food, medication monitoring and socialization. The apartments and common areas are spacious, well-appointed and meticulously maintained. The staff genuinely enjoy their jobs and work together to create a family-like community with a positive energy. My aunt has made several friends and enjoys spending time with them at exercise class, on group outings, playing games or sharing meals in the dining room. I have the utmost confidence in the care my aunt receives and have been particularly impressed by the response of management and staff to Covid-19. Communication is a key ingredient and Laurelwood excels at it. They stepped up right away and continue to demonstrate that their top priority is the health and safety of the entire community. My aunt had a milestone birthday during the height of the pandemic and our family questioned how we could possibly make it as memorable as we had planned. Laurelwood staff saved the day by facilitating surprise gift deliveries, providing tech support for a family Zoom party and serving a special lunch complete with birthday cake for all the residents to share. My aunt felt like royalty. If you're looking for "exceeds expectations," this is it.

Laurelwood is a caring and comfortable place. The many staff, all of whom are professional and responsive are always present to answer a question or rectify a problem. This includes the administration, the nurses and aides and one always gets a friendly smile when entering the dining room. There are many in-house activities offered from concerts to crafts. There are also excursions from fishing and birdwatching to visits to local museums and galleries. The building itself is very handsome, light and airy with both open space and nooks. It lends a positive atmosphere for living in the space. My dog Henry and I are very happy here at Laurelwood , our home. Elizabeth Goheen, Resident

Laurelwood is an exceedingly well run entity. The management is always available to hear suggestions and responds quickly to those that are helpful. In this way, residents can have meaningful input into management of the place. Moreover, the staff is extraordinary. They care seriously about their jobs and the well being of the residents, whether they are dining room employees, nursing staff or transportation personnel. They sincerely desire to do the best for the residents and the residents are appreciative of the care they receive. All in all, this all makes for a caring, safe and happy place.

Our whole family (2 parents and 8 children) has been delighted with every aspect of the lifestyle, professionalism and good old-fashioned care provided by the team at Laurelwood. The place itself has a country club feel to it which makes sense since it’s right in the middle of Pinehills and a stone’s throw from 2 first class golf courses. There’s every type of activity you could imagine within Laurelwood but it’s the Pinehills community, town village, shops and restaurants that put it in a class of its own. These amenities enrich the lives of residents along with their families and friends. I would be remiss if I didn’t conclude with the extraordinary measures taken to protect everyone during the Covid-19 pandemic. I am truly impressed with the courage, innovation and resiliency of every Laurelwood associate, from management to those delivering meals and meds. Thank you!

My father has been a resident at Laurelwood at the Pinehills for the last 4 years. Given the difficult nature of somebody coming to the realization that they must start giving up their independence and relying on strangers to start sharing the burden of day to day living, the experience has been a good one. Obviously, the last year has been most challenging for staff, management and the residents alike. The management and staff have taken great pains to secure the health of their residents and though it may have seemed extreme at times, the fact of the matter is, the health and well-being today of the residents, is a testimony to how well a job was done. I'm happy that Dad chose Laurelwood as I have heard stories about other places. Thank you. BC

My sister Marian's Alexa has recently changed my life. It also made me recognize how good her care was for her last 18 months while she lived in memory care at Laurelwood at the Pine Hills. Every morning at 7:00 am, I am gifted with an automatic playlist of top r&b, disco, and funk songs from the 1970s. I return from my morning run and am greeted by the Pointer Sisters, the Ohio Players, Patrice Rushen, the Gap Band, Diana Ross, George Benson, Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang. They lift me up every morning as I stretch, shower, make my lunch, and dance around in the kitchen all by myself, surrounded by the very best memories of my childhood with my big sister. Some of my fondest memories are of dancing disco with her in 1977. I was 8. She was 18. This is the joy she gave me, and is giving me again, even two months after she passed. Someone at Laurelwood programmed this playlist into her Alexa when she was struggling. She had early-onset Alzheimer's, diagnosed at 53 and lived til 61. Devastating, to all of us. But someone knew that music from the best years of her life would help as the disease took over and she began to experience intense anxiety and agitation late last fall. The playlist they cued up for her wakeup alarm says so much to me, as a musician, as a sister, and as a student of the incredible healing power of music: Someone at Laurelwood understood what my PhD-level music therapy friends at Berklee College of Music have been trying to get medicine to legitimize for decades: Music is a highly effective therapeutic tool to awaken deep memories of happiness and thus effect improved emotional well-being in people living with dementia. Someone at Laurelwood knew this. This is big. I know Laurelwood is sparkling clean. I know the food is excellent. I know the staff are responsive, friendly, and kind. I saw that they create a busy schedule for their residents to stimulate them and improve their quality of life. I know that her laundry never got lost, her teeth were brushed, and her bodily health was watched over with great care. I saw all of this with my own eyes and through the eyes of hired private caregivers who were there to help her when I couldn't be. It was horrific having her there, especially through COVID, but we always knew she was in good hands. And here's what we didn't see til I plugged in her Alexa: When it came to finding creative ways to heal her fragmented emotions, Laurelwood knew just what to do. Now, two months after her death, I too have fragmented emotions to reconcile. I have to heal, after eight years of grieving the painfully slow loss of the big sister who changed my diapers as a baby, dressed me as a toddler, encouraged me as a teen, and helped me update my resume and cover letters as a young professional. She also kept a watchful eye on my emotional well-being. You know who's helping me rediscover emotional well-being now? Unwittingly, the fine folks at Laurelwood”just like they did with my sister. Even when bad things happen, there is always something to be grateful for. Me? Deeply grateful to the consummate and skilled professionals at Laurelwood.

As a nurse, it was very important to me that my Mom had excellent care and excellent quality of life. Laurelwood has provided her an atmosphere where she has not only thrived but blossomed. The diverse activities have enriched her life and she has totally enjoyed them. The staff has been very competent and professional as well as kind and caring. Open communication and partnership have resulted in my Mom having excellent care.I could not be more pleased!

I would highly recommend Laurelwood @the Pinehills for any individual or couple looking for a unique independent/assisted or memory care facility. As soon as you enter the lobby, you feel welcome and are surrounded by positive energy. My mother spent the last 2 years of her life at Laurelwood and totally enjoyed it. She considered it her home. The entire staff is extraordinarily caring and compassionate not only to the residents but to their families as well. The apartments are spacious and well appointed. The activities abound. They include exercise classes, crafts, music programs and outings to local restaurants and attractions. My mother was a very social person and was delighted with all the activities that Laurelwood had to offer. She made many new & dear friends during her stay as well. Of course, the highlight of her experience was the staff. All the members of the Laurelwood team go above & beyond to ensure that every resident is taken care of. In fact, they treat each resident as if they are a part of their own family. Laurelwood @the Pinehills is an upbeat, secure and caring place for anyone requiring additional services in their later years. Our family was so grateful that the Laurelwood community provided such a wonderful environment for our mother.

Laurelwood does a great job of integrating independent and assisted living. This community is truly unique in that a person (or a couple) can rent a beautiful apartment, with a full kitchen if they want, and age-in-place. Adding services to accommodate changing care needs is fluid so residents can have peace of mind that they will be well-cared-for. The social programs and active adult learning opportunities are engaging and creative, even with the restrictions COVID has presented. Brenda Gellar is a wonderful representative of the community as she is easy to relate to and is clearly knowledgeable. We have had many clients move into Laurelwood over the years and look forward to having many more.

I highly recommend Laurelwood and Avita living! My Mom lived in both the assisted living area of Laurelwood and in Avita Memory Care! The amazing employees gave my Mom an enormous amount of attention and involved her in all of the activities! Between ice cream parties, card games, movie nights in the theatre, outdoor walks along the flower filled paths, visiting museums, going to a restaurant for lunch, hitting balls at a driving range or just sitting by the Cape Cod Canal on a warm summer day to watch the boats cruise by, Mom's last years of her life were fulfilled with fun, laughter and care! Alzheimers is a heart-wrenching disease and the Avita caregivers helped not just Mom but also myself, navigate thorough, with compassion and dignity! I could never thank them enough! All of the employees of Laurelwood/Avita become "extended family"! They care not just for your loved one, but for your whole family!

When you call the front desk, someone answers It’s a great day at Laurelwood! I know this is just a line, but every time I interact with a member of staff, I know that they are doing everything they can to make it a good day for my parents. The staff know every resident’s name, pay close attention to their needs, and are clearly invested in their health and wellbeing. Even during very stressful times with the pandemic, my family and I have been repeatedly impressed by the communication and care we have received from every person we interact with at Laurelwood, all the way up to the management team. The work they do has allowed my family to breathe a huge sigh of relief, because my parents are safe in a beautiful facility with people who really care. Highly recommend!

No words can describe the kindness and compassion the entire staff showed as my mother progressed through Alzheimer’s. She was incredibly well taken care of and the communication with me was beyond reproach. I could not recommend Laurelwood more highly.
January 2021
My mother and father recently moved into Laurelwood and we do not have enough great things to say. The staff, the facilities the other residences are more than was expected. With everything going on during Covid they have been more than accommodating. Would recommend to my closest friends and family.

My husband and I moved into Laurelwood over a year ago because of the beautiful setting in the Pine Hills and after touring numerous other facilities. We found the management and staff to be exceptional in making us feel like family and that this could be our new home. They are very kind, caring and competent always ready to help in any way. Since our move here my husband’s Parkinson’s accompanied by it’s dementia progressed to the point that it was necessary for him to move to Aveda, the memory care unit. I have been so very pleased with the care that he is receiving there. Alison, the program director, does a fantastic job providing the residents with creative, educational, challenging, and fun activities all day long which is no easy feat. Be sure to pick up the monthly newsletter to see what’s offered. I am still upstairs in an independent apartment and our activities director Dana, does an equally outstanding job of keeping us happy through a variety of fun filled challenging activities.Throughout this challenging times she has managed to come up with some very creative ideas to keep us busy. Our monthly newsletter will help you to see what a great job she is doing. I am so happy that I am here near my husband and that we can both continue to live an active and happy life enjoying our new friends and wonderful people here at Laurelwood.

Laurelwood Assisted Living, and it's staff, is an amazing organization that treats and cares for their residents as if they are extensions of their own families. The Wellness staff (nursing department), is the most caring and competent group of of professional health care workers that any resident or family could wish to find in an assisted living facility. The management is professional, personal, and lead with competence and heart. Even the maintenance department is responsive to any and all requests. Perhaps, and most noteworthy, is the manner in which each and every member of the team of professionals make every effort to provide a home like atmosphere. Residents are treated with dignity, respect and valued for whatever they bring to the community. In these past ten months, Laurelwood has provided consistent and transparent communication to their residents and families. The members of their staff have consistently provided superb care and concern for all their residents. They have provided exhaustive efforts in keeping their residents safe during this pandemic. They have been fluid and inventive with managing meals, family visits, activities and all manner of well being for the people entrusted to their care. Laurelwood is a superior assisted living facility, and when put to the unimaginable challenges of this past year, they continue to be deserving of both praise and admiration.

My sister, who was living alone out of state, developed a form of dementia. She knew she would need to find an assisted living facility near her relatives in Massachusetts . Our family did quite a bit of research into various facilities in MA; but we were unsure what would be the proper choice. A friend recommended Laurelwood. We visited and were impressed with how upbeat everyone was. Seven months later my sister moved into Laurelwood and was warmly received. In the beginning we were all apprehensive about how this major change would affect my sisters well being. We visit her quite often, she is very happy to be living there, has told me everyone at Laurelwood is extremely nice, and she feels safer than she has felt in years. We are extremely satisfied with the care she is receiving at Laurelwood.

I want to give a much deserved shout-out to Culinary Director Suzie. My parents moved to Laurelwood a few years ago and have received excellent care. They used to LOVE it when I would send chocolate covered strawberries on special occasions. Due to Covid-19 it wasn't possible to keep up that tradition. Suzie has gone personally out of her way to make absolutely beautiful and delicious chocolate covered strawberries with all the toppings possible for my Dad. His face was glowing today when they were personally delivered on his 92 birthday. My Dad always encouraged his 8 children to "go the extra mile", and "always leave them smiling." That is what Suzie does for my Dad and I'll never forget it!

What a wonderful home LAURELWOOD was for my husband. The Avita Memory Unit was more than just an apartment where he could live securely, it was our family. The community and environment of Avita and indeed, Laurelwood, provided a physical environment that was in itself a treatment for those with memory issues. The open floor plan adds a welcome sense of light and space. The wonderful enclosed yard a place to enjoy independence and to watch the birds flitting to and from the bird feeders, as well as place to care for flowers and vegetables. The many activities of trips, music, games, art, dancing, movies and so much more kept us both engaged cognitively and physically. But above all, the staff with Allison at it’s helm were family. Their loving care shines in all that they do. They truly understand the needs of the residents and how to help when challenging behaviors mean the person has some unmet need. I wish I could mention each one by name as they all deserve praise for the work they do, but I would not want to leave anyone out. That also goes for those in the offices, kitchens, cleaning maintenance staff. Nothing is perfect but Laurelwood comes mighty close.

My wife and I searched for over a year to find the right place for us. When we found Laurelwood and moved in a few years ago, it exceeded our expectations in every respect. We have a quality lifestyle here that includes an excellent staff, great friends, and creative programs. It is walking distance to a village, a world class star and Pinehills biking and walking trails. We feel lucky to have found Laurelwood as our retirement home.

My 80 year old mother is a resident of Laurelwood in the Avita memory care wing. She has lived there for almost three years. I cannot say enough good things about the care she has received while living there! The management team (especially Alison Stockman the Program Director) always listen to family concerns and seem to always act in the best interest of the residents. Every time I visit my mom she seems happy and engaged. She is rarely in her room and spends all her time in well planned activities (painting, drumming, trivia, watching movies, etc). Whenever I ask a staff member for help (such as bathroom assistance) someone always quickly comes to my aid. I have NEVER seen an employee treat a resident with anything but cheerful respect (even if a resident was being "difficult" or off in their own world...). I would highly recommend Laurelwood/Avita to anyone looking for a home for their loved one with a cognitive disability.

Not just a beautiful place to live, but a place where people really care about both residents and their family. Good food. Great activities. Safe environment. Assisted Living at its finest level. Quality of life maximized everyday.

My mom has been a resident for almost two years. I can't say enough good things about how wonderful the staff is and the numerous friendships she has made with other residents. The activity schedule is fulfilling and she goes on numerous trips outside the facility via their well-equipped van. She is thriving at Laurelwood!

I’m not sure where to begin because our experience from the first phone call we placed was truly the best for my family’s journey. We had known for a while that we should have made a plan for the future, but we didn’t. After all, what are the chances that a 97-year-old woman living on her own in an isolated area will ever need a change? But the day came and some calls needed to be made so the first one placed was to DEB HYSON at Laurelwood. Deborah has always been held in the highest regard for her dedication to her profession and extensive knowledge of family dynamics. We absolutely were expecting superior service, but what we received was well above that level. Beginning with Debbie, the experience and procedures couldn’t have been any easier or more seamless. And in less than 24 hours our mother was situated in a lovely unit in this community and entirely welcomed by the management, the staff, and the residents. Sue McKenna, the Executive Director was at the front door when we arrived and remained involved throughout the entire transition. As our family came and went (constantly! ),we all began to feel like it was our community. Truly more than any of us could’ve ever asked for!

From day one our Uncle Tommy has been very happy in Laurelwood. From the senior staff down, the communication with us and the care and happiness of our uncle has been shown on a daily basis. The accommodation, food, range of activities and administration have been excellent. When you have a family member you love with such a debilitating illness it is important to have a facility like Laurelwood, for peace of mind. Thank you all.
