Reviews The Terraces at Park Marino
August 2024
My mother has been living at The Terraces at Park Marino for 8 months now. She is not a person who is easy to please, but she LOVES her new home. Her apartment is bright and friendly and the whole facility is really warm and welcoming. The little garden in the back has a walking path, which makes for an easy still with a walker. From there you have a beautiful mountain view, as it sits right next to the Eaton Canyon wash. Sam, who is the director of the place, is a wonderful man who makes all the tenants feel special and welcome. All the staff is very caring and accommodating, I have nothing but positive things to say about this facility. It feels like home away from home with its coziness.

My Mom has been lovingly, comfortably and safely at The Terraces at Park Marino for 3 years now. In our first meeting with Sam Baum, the Community Relations Director, he said. "We love our residents in". That's the truth. The care and compassion my mom receives on a daily basis is comforting. Since the beginning Sam worked with us on a special diet for my mom. They treat all their residents like family. The staff at the front desk and in the dining room know the residents by name. Sam swings by my mom's room and picks her up for social events that he knows she enjoys but may not remember to make it there herself. My mom has serious memory issues and Sam, Dana and the entire staff are skilled at managing her special needs as they continue to change. My sister and I feel blessed that we found The Terraces.

Perfect home for our mother who needs daily assistance due to dementia. The Terraces offer a very friendly and helpful staff in a clean and nurturing environment!

The Terraces, nestled in a safe area of the community, has been a great resource for assisted living. Staff is caring and the facilities are beautiful and do not feel institutional. Special events are regularly planned, opportunities to visit with loved ones in an outdoor setting with spectacular views are uplifting, and the genuine concern expressed by staff is so appreciated. The Terraces is a friendly place where seniors can still embrace their individualism and families are respected and welcomed. It is very evident that staff are happy….and that is essential to the any caregiving environment. Thank you for the wonderful support on a very long caregiving journey.

My Mom is happy here… They may seem like a normal thing to say, but in our case, it's very meaningful. My dad passed away suddenly in January 2022, leaving his wife of 58 years very lost and confused and sad. My parents had a home in the same neighborhood as The Terraces for 51 years, so we moved my mom into The Terraces in November 2022 in the hopes that being in the same neighborhood, with the same mountain view, would help her grieve and get on with her life. It's been a struggle with her because she has dementia, and she misses my dad terribly, but she's finally starting to like her surroundings. Finally. She feels comfortable. That's a big deal. I can't say enough about the staff at The Terraces. They have been very patient with a family who has never had to deal with assisted living before (and Sam has been especially patient with me and my five million questions). The place is clean, well cared for, and they go above and beyond to make sure their residents are well tended. It's a huge load off our minds to know they are so kind and attentive. If you're looking for a place for mom or dad, I encourage you to check them out. We've been extremely happy with them.

It's always a tough decision to have to find placement for your loved ones, and even more daunting to try to find the perfect place. The Terraces, for my mom, is that perfect place. The staff is attentive, and most importantly, they truly care. I know mom is safe, secure, and is in a place where she can thrive. Most times, tears of sorrow happen in these types of places, however, at The Terraces, I have tears of happiness and peace. Thank you Sam and all the staff. I now have peace of mind knowing that mom is in a safe place where she can get the care she deserves!
November 2023
My mother has now been a resident at 3 different Assisted Living Facilities (one in Indiana and two here in California) and it is hard for us to imagine her having a better experience, for any amount of money, than the one she is having living at the Terraces at Park Marino. To say that the staff is dedicated is an understatement. Unlike the other ALFs, the staff turnover rate is extremely low; I think that speaks highly about the management of TaPM. The other thing that sets them apart is the high staff to resident ratio. At her last ALF, eventually they went down to only ONE CAREGIVER in the building from 11pm-6 am; it was scary! A call for assistance is responded to much more quickly at TaPM than it was at her previous facility; that gives us a lot of peace of mind. The food is also the best by far. Far from seeming "institutional," the food is delicious and there is a lot of variety. There is often shrimp and asparagus on the menu; and their soups are out of this world! Last but by no means least, Sam Baum, the Director of The Terraces, is the most personable, loving, patient man you could ever ask for to occupy his position. His sincere and genuine caring for your loved one cannot be faked and it makes my mom feel seen, listened to and cared for; Sam is directly contributing to my mother's quality of life and for that I will be forever grateful. I am SO HAPPY that we found TaPM; I would recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone who is in the market for a diverse, stimulating, caring facility to someone who needs extra care. The physical setting is beautiful as well; it's tucked away from the busy street and has amazing views of the foothills. I could literally go on and on but I'll stop because I'm sure everyone reading this has things to do! Suffice it to say that you or your loved one would be very fortunate indeed to become a resident at the Terraces at Park Marino; my mother is hoping never to have to live anywhere else.

Mom is happy, safe and competently cared for. That's what we wanted.

My sister has lived at The Terraces for a year and a half. I visit her often and have seen for myself the concern, respect, humor, assistance, and patience with which all staff members, from the Director to the maintenance people, treat the residents. The activities are wide-ranging — not only the usual Bingo & movies, but also current events discussions, ingenious art projects, bible study, literature for fun, live musical performances, group games, cooking, and, best of all, Sam's Social Cafe, where residents share life stories, favorite songs or poems, and much more. The physical environment is attractive and well-kept, including a lovely garden. And a subsidy program using HUD guidelines offers help with the rent.
February 2023
We brought my sister to the Terraces in February 2022, on the advice of one of her friends. She had moderate dementia and an inability to take care of her personal busines s by herself. She has told us on multiple occasions that she likes living there. She has made friends and participates in many of the activities. The staff is friendly, and responsive to her needs.. She lives close to her long-time friends. We are very comfortable with her being at the Terraces.

We toured this facility for my mother-in-law last year and because she wasn't ready to move in, we placed ourselves on the waitlist. Sam, the director, was a big draw for us. He was so welcoming, warm and genuinely cared for everyone there. Watching him interact with the residents there really comforted us, knowing that if my mother-in-law moved in, we knew that Sam and staff would take care of her. He truly is amazing and a huge factor in why we would choose this place over others. The facility itself was nice, clean and some of the rooms had amazing views of the mountains. Ultimately, my mother-in-law decided that she didn't want to move out of the only home she ever knew, but if she changed her mind, I would be calling Sam.
January 2023
Moved my grandmother, who I call “mom”, across the country to be near me as she is now needing some assistance & definitely in need of community. The Terraces is more affordable than some assisted living in the area & I just had a good feeling about the community & location. Lovely backyard view of the mountains. They also had reasonable COVID policies—as a physician with an elderly parent this was important to me. She’s been there for 6 months. She has her own space, community, friends, daily activities she participates in, help when she needs it. I can’t be around all the time & I’m thankful for everyone looking out for her.
January 2023
My family is very glad to have found The Terraces at Park Marino. After looking around for a new home for Mom, it was clear to us this was the place. Sam and the staff continues to be instrumental in helping not just our mother but the entire family navigate our recent changes. They have been nothing but superb and continue to retain our confidence in knowing we have made the right choice. Everyone is on a first-name basis, checking in with our mother frequently, keeping her engaged. Facilities are well maintained and the level of service is top-notch!

My mother-in-law recently had to move from assisted living to memory care. The staff went out of their way to make her feel welcome. She went from staying in her room (including eating her meals alone) all day, to in memory care, going into the communal room, joining in with activities and staying with everyone till after lunch time. She seems to be adjusting well and enjoying the company and activities in memory care. We love that she has things to do with others and is no longer so isolated in her room all the time. A big thanks to the staff. We were worried about moving her but it has turned out great.
August 2022
Our mom has lived at the Terraces for several months now. During this time, we have been so grateful to the entire staff for all they’ve done to help her acclimate to a new lifestyle and help her find the best environment for her needs. Once she had lived in her original assisted living apartment for a few months, with Sam’s and the staff’s guidance, we realized she would be more content in the memory care wing, called Safe Haven. Sam and the caregivers worked with us to get her set up in her new space with patience and understanding. Now she happily participates in the daily activities in Safe Haven, and considers it her home. The staff encourages a family atmosphere amongst the residents and is caring and attentive. We feel fortunate to have found the Terraces!
August 2022
I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with Sam and his team at the Terraces. When I first toured, I noticed that the Terraces was by far the warmest and friendliest facility I had visited. Sam knew every employee’s name, as well as the residents. The employees appeared to genuinely enjoy their jobs. Now that my mom lives there, I know that this is not something they just manufacture for the tours. It is true to who they are – they care for the residents, and work hard to make the Terraces a pleasant place to be. My mom started in Assisted Living and now lives in the memory care unit. When the time came to move her, Sam broke the news to us gently and kindly, and helped us to tell my mom. She didn’t totally understand the change but Yesenia and everyone on Sam’s team helped make the transition so smooth. It is hard to express my gratitude for having found the Terraces and knowing that my mom is in such great care. It is a daunting process, but we have been supported every step of the way. They treat the residents with the dignity and respect they deserve, no matter their mental or physical state. When my mom was living on her own, her anxiety was becoming unmanageable. She couldn't stand to be alone at all (which was a problem because she lived alone). Now she is happy and calm and it feels like she is closer to who she used to be which is such a joy for our family, even as the Alzheimer's progresses. Thank you Sam and team for all that you do.
June 2022
Terraces at Park Marino has been the right living situation for our family. They are attuned to all our needs and are flexible to respond to the different situational requirements. Sam Baum is quite attentive to our input.
May 2022
When I was looking for an assisted living facility it was a task I approached with dread. I love my mother but the reality of costs of assisted living were also on my mind. I needed to find a place we could afford but it also needed a great place for my mother to live as well. When I first walked into the Terraces I received a big hello from a wonderful woman named LaShawna. Although she told me I would need to speak with Sam Baum (more about him later) to get the information I would need on pricing and amenities, she and I spoke for more than ten very enjoyable minutes. As I left I told LaShawna that "my mother is gonna love you and that you will love her too". Even though I continued to investigate other facilities that one encounter had really already made my mind up. Then when I met with the Terraces Director Sam Baum, his presentation and understanding of my mothers needs set my decision in stone. He informed me that staff, like LaShawna, had been working at the Terraces in most cases for decades. That kind of continuity is very important because it means that in addition to their guests, The Terraces takes care of its employees too. That is very important because it is the best way to ensure superior service and care. I am happy to report that my mother did fall in love with LaShawna and the rest of the staff as well. At the Terraces I found that pretty much everyone there treats my mother, not as a client or even a guest but rather as family. That means more to me than even the fact that is the facility we could afford. It was not the least expensive but it WAS the very best that I could find. As in all things there are problems and folks can drop the ball from time to time. That is to be expected. What is great is that any concerns or issues that come up the Staff and especially Sam Baum they all take my concerns seriously and address them. You can look elsewhere but I do not believe you can find better.

One of the best 55+ communities and independent living in Pasadena. As we all know there are many important factors in choosing the right community for your loved one and I strongly recommend The Terraces at Park Marino. The staff is excellent, residents get treated with respect, dignity and a loving care. The community is very clean, there's a beautiful garden, and a big patio in Memory Care. The rates are fair, call and ask for Sam.

The caring and amazing staff at the Terraces at Park Marino made our fathers transition into assisted living a true joy. They were attentive to his every need, kept him comfortable, kept us well informed and involved and made the entire experience a positive one. I would recommend the Terraces to every friend, every family member, anyone with a loved one who is looking for an engaging, assisted living community. In our case, our father was able to have hospice care right in his studio at the Terraces. We couldnt have made it through this difficult time without their incredible support and service.

My dad moved in here two weeks ago and so far he loves it. Very kind caring staff and great food. Also lots of activities. I highly recommend this assisted living facility.

We had to make the difficult decision to move my Mother-in-law from her home where she had lived for 64 years. We looked at several places but kept coming back to The Terraces as the residents and staff were so warm and friendly. As expected, the adjustment has not been easy and made more difficult with COVID but the caring staff have have been exceptional in helping her to feel cared for and safe. have to give special recognition to the Community Relations Director, Sam Baum as he has been there at every step checking on her to make sure she gets everything she needs. He has made her feel special and is helping her to assimilate into the new community.I am a Registered Nurse and pay special attention to every detail when my loved ones are in a hospital or a setting such as an ALF. And I am giving Sam and the entire staff of the Terraces a five-star review for the concern, care, and love they have shown to my Mother-in-law.
October 2020
I visited The Terraces on multiple occasions and had planned to move my grandmother in. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were not able to follow through with the transition. However, I wanted to review The Terraces based upon my visits and engagement with the staff here. This place is just so lovely and the staff could not have been more welcoming and warm, especially the Director, Sam Baum.If in the future we need a place for our family member, we will definitely be back. We had gone so far as to leave a deposit and when we requested to have it back, no questions were asked and we received the refund in full. Its comforting to know that places like this exist, where people are dedicated to caring for seniors and supporting their family members.Im updating this review because we ended up moving Grandma to The Terraces at Park Marino on September 1st. Our entire experience has been nothing but wonderful! Sam and the entire staff exhibit the highest level of professionalism and kindness, not a bad apple in the bunch! The Terraces has struck the perfect balance when it comes to resident safety and engagement. Residents may now participate in some small group activities and family may visit outside in the courtyard, by appointment, while wearing masks and keeping a safe distance from their loved ones. Our family could not be more pleased and confident in our decision to move Grandma.
October 2020
The Terraces at Park Marino are a hidden gem! The staff are very warm, welcoming and caring. And, even with the pandemic imposed restrictions, the settled residents are equally warm and welcoming to new residents. Our mom moved in from the home shed had for the last 60 years and at 99 has found a whole new group of friends with whom to share her stories.
October 2020
My mother has lived at The Terraces for a year and a half now and has adjusted well to her new home. Im very pleased with the services and quality of care and attention given to the residents. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. The number of staff members to residents ratio allows for better care. For example, when Mom returned from a hospital stay, not just a couple but several staff members were kept in the loop about the extra assistance she might need.At the time of this review, COVID-19 is causing havoc in long-term healthcare facilities across the country—but *not* at the Terraces. (Thank heavens.) Theyve taken extreme care in implementing CAs recommendations for assisted living residences and to date no residents have contracted the disease.I am so thankful that Mom is living there, safe and sound.

We moved my 98 year-old mother to The Terraces after 60 years of living in the home she raised a family of four sons. Naturally, she was less than thrilled with the idea but Sam and the entire team has taken great care to make her feel welcome, valued and respected. The fact that she has been able to take the artwork, furniture and other items from the house to furnish her apartment has made The Terraces like a new version of the home she knew and loved.Sam is a mensch and has gone out of his to make certain she joined events to meet other residents and begin to build a new chapter in her life as she heads to the century mark (she turned 99 yesterday). The team comes to take her temperature three times a day and check in to see how she is doing both physically and in spirit. I have sometimes overheard their conversations when I call and know that the relationship she has with the team is warm and genuine.

Dorothy Brooks and the staff at the Terraces at Park Marino provided a warm welcome, all of the information needed including a tour, as well as an opportunity for my 92 year old father and I to meet current residents and share a meal and conversation. Very professional, warm comfy feel to the site, friendly staff. Dorothy also provided contact information to explore potential VA benefits for my father who is a proud veteran, which was also greatly appreciated.
