The Titanic The pics and websites make this place look amazing, when you call [name removed], the person in charge, sounds caring and lovely, almost refreshing. Yet, this place is brutal. We took our loved one there on Friday May 29th, as he was no longer able to take care of himself after having had a stroke and being released from the hospital. He is diabetic, partially blind and has difficulty climbing stairs. They led him through a dilapidated dirty foul-smelling old house which already made your stomach fall out, down some damp old stairs and put him in a dark, freezing cold room in the basement, with very little light. Whenever he came up the stairs to access sunlight, or to get to know his surroundings and fellow residents, he was ordered to go downstairs and that he wasn’t allowed up there as he wasn’t paying enough. When he told me this, I asked [name removed] who told me that he was confused and that he could go anywhere he wanted at any time but had to eat downstairs as there was assigned seating for meals. She showed me a door that he could use to go outside, which was a back door and when I went to through to look at where he could sit, there was no access to the deck at the top of a hill, and the door locked behind me. I was now in the hot sun without any chair in sight. I had to walk up the hill and around to the front, ring the bell and wait to talk to her, just for her to spew a bunch of clear lies to my face. Thankfully I am healthy and able to find my way, my loved one would have been locked out and lost. All that they fed him was sugary cereals, Quaker oatmeal packs (only allowing one package a day) and frozen pizza. No access to fresh produce or milk. When they made him tea, they loaded it with sugar and got upset when he refused to drink it. They were serving large glasses of juice and when he asked for water, they gave him some from the rusty, century old kitchen faucet. When he protested that he couldn’t have the food and drinks provided since he has diabetes, they said that they weren’t aware--which means they didn’t read his file. When providing him with his meds, they either brought the incorrect pills, or missed some. “Semi Private Rooms” are the size of a jail cell with two beds and old dressers that were probably picked up at the side of the road. After 3 days we removed him as he would have been better off at a homeless shelter, he would have at least been given hot soup and someone to talk to. When we went to pick him up, they wouldn’t let us take him until we paid $250 on the spot. They got very argumentative and were very scary. When I spoke to his assigned social worker I was told that they have been advocating for years to have this place shut down. If you care AT ALL about your loved one, stay very far away from this ‘home”. Steerage on the Titanic as it was sinking was treated far superior to this.
