I would like to give a shout out to Inna Sariri for the tour she provided me and my husband ( we have been looking at assisted care apartments for my 90 year old mom) The place is just beautiful. She never rushed us took time answering all our questions, and even followed up afterward. Her kindness and professionalism truly stood out. Highly recommended.

Have left 2 work orders at front desk.1st one has been put in over 3 weeks about replacing the sidings glass door to his balcony can’t see out of because it has lost its seal between the two glasses can’t be cleaned.2nd the outside balcony wooden rails and bottom wooden supports to the underside of the decking needs replacing painting want take care of safety of weight on the balcony.Thanks if these work orders can be done shortly.APT #268 2nd floor.

I was visiting my mother in law, Barbara Clarke, room 152. Her daughter and I put her Christmas decorations out and noticed how dusty her room was. We wiped everything down. We also noticed that there is dirt and dust all over the floor in her room, especially at the foot of her bed. The rug in the hallway was not vacuumed either. The rooms clearly are not being cleaned.

I was a senior life-enrichment speaker, and worked in the industry for more than a decade. I’m also a chef who’s worked in 3 countries so the experience I bring to senior communities, gives me a rather critical eye. I first came looking for a place for my aunt. She has no children and I was worrying about her ability to continue to care for her home. Inna was our first contact. I loved her transparency and candor as we spoke about issues affecting senior populations. My aunt also had a dog and she thought something horrible would have to happen before she would ever consider a senior community. Just the opposite is true as first colonial allows people to bring their beloved dogs and cats to the community. I was struck by the atmosphere as some people walk through the grounds with their fur babies Stopping so everyone could pet or greet or speak to the critters. Everyone seems to know each pet by name. Having been a former activity director I expected to not be very impressed with activities but they offer so much more than bingo. Stimulating and fun, social events, classes, speakers, FILL the activity calendar daily! It blew my mind as these were activities that I would want to take part in. Then the food: well I didn’t expect to like the food as my mother is in a facility in NC that has really lousy food And most senior communities offer Just mediocre meals. I was blown away as nothing comes out of a can there and all the meals are scratch made. Whether it’s eggs Benedict or halibut with a lemon cream sauce over pasta It blew me away! These are meals I would want! These are meals I would be proud to serve! My aunt has now been there for a month and I felt sure the warts would start to show. It just hasn’t been the case at all. From the very caring housekeepers who do resident’s laundry and look after the day today appearance of their apartments, to Kimberly, who always greets you with a smile from the front desk, to the maintenance men who come to help hang pictures in a timely manner whenever needed Or Dana the executive Director. Everyone cares about your concerns and are well-versed with the issues that plague, senior communities from troubles with mobility, to memory care, or depression. First Colonial Inn is an aesthetically pleasing, beautiful facility that’s Homey, friendly, and a place anybody would be proud to call home. I cannot say enough great stuff about the staff, the activities, and the food. Inna has been our shining star through the whole process of walking my aunt Kathy & me through the stages, with us every step of the way. Residents are encouraged to stay busy with the games, or the book club, which they provide the book of the month to all members as a courtesy I know I sound like I work for the place, but I don’t. I just could not be more thrilled with what I found there. Not only do they offer top-tier services, but they do so affordably. Whether your loved one has a green thumb, is an artist, or wants to learn more about the environment and the importance of honeybees (YES THEY EVEN HAVE A BEEHIVE !) there is something there to appeal to everyone multiple times a day Huge thanks to the very attentive staff who make the place run so smoothly and thank you again, Inna, Dana & Kimberly for always taking the time to fully address any concern we might have! I could not be happier!

The staff was so pleasant. Talking to all the residents. It was so clean and cheerful in the building and outside was so peaceful. Lots of places to sit and relax and talk. The apartment was very nice and accommodating.

I've been at this place several times through agency. Today was the worst thanks to their employee Abby who was rude and used a rude tone of voice over something that I needed to do my job. I haven't been here in over a month so I haven't had my login with me because I don't go here like I do other facilities. So I was looking for the supervisor Abby to get my login and for at 20 minutes total I could not locate her. I been to the medication office then on AL to ask an employee who said he will message her and ask her to come to the medication office which she never came. I then went to memory care in which an employee called her via phone and this was the conversation. " Abby wya because Kesha from Kare is looking for you - why what do she want- idk where are you - I'm up front, where she at- she's in memory- why is she in memory she belongs on the 2nd floor- idk Abby just see what she wants please -I will meet her upstairs. Then she meets me upstairs after abt 8 minutes and asks you looking for me what do you want. I expressed I messaged her boss on the app and asked her to count me out. She said well that's how I talk and I said well being rude is not tolerated and I'm not going to be talked to or about any kind of way. She didn't wanna count me out her boss messaged me and said Abby stated she wasn't talking about me and was joking with keya. Aht aht don't lie to your boss Abby. Now the joke is on you. Her boss asked me to call her I did explain what happened and she stated Abby has no choice but to count me out. Jazmin you were amazing but Abby needs to be trained on professionalism because as I expressed it may be another situation and that is cool in a supervisor position. Be blessed like I said y'all can DNR me I don't want that experience again.

First Colonial Inn, and specifically Charles Waddell, the Sales Director, were a godsend when I found myself on short notice needing to find somewhere for my mother to live following a hospital discharge. Despite feeling very rushed, I was determined not to settle for the first place I saw and nothing felt right until I met with Charles at FCI. He was so kind, thorough, and patient in touring the facilities with me and answering all my questions, and has proven to be an accurate predictor of the overall vibe which is so laid back and friendly, unlike many of the places I looked where people often seemed sad and angry. First Colonial Inn is small and intimate feeling, while being large enough to provide an epic panel of activities for residents. The food is actually very good and they have a variety of seasonally changing menu items in addition to the daily specials. They even have a special computer system that tracks any food allergies or preferences (such as my mother’s low salt request) when they put in the order so the info is automatically relayed to the kitchen. It really feels like the employees, from the kitchen to the front desk, care about their jobs and about being good at them, which they are!

We toured First Colonial Inn earlier this week. My first impression was , wow it smells nice when you first walk in. The apartments are spacious. A full size kitchen was a big plus. If you don’t feel like cooking they have a restaurant style dinning area. We had lunch there and the food was exceptional. The staff was very friendly as well as all the people we spoke to who live there. It’s a beautiful community with lots to do. The only reason we didn’t choose it was because the money would go further at a different community.

Happy to share how Charles Waddell helped me transition back to FCI after the loss of my husband. Not an easy time in my life but Charles smoothed the way for me with his calm friendly manner. I never felt pressured or rushed to make a decision. He was sensitive to my needs and professional at the same time. It truly feels like I’ve come back home.

I don't often write reviews, but First Colonial Inn (FCI) and Charles Waddell earned this one. My mother passed away in June and we needed to find a facility that had Great Staff, Wonderful Residents and Comprehensive Amenities. FCI is the complete package. I wasn't there during my father's first visit to FCI, but at the end of the tour my father wanted to know if he could move in that day. This should have been all I needed to hear, but because of the type of person I am, I had to do my due diligence and check out other facilities. So I performed my due diligence and to be honest, all it did was delayed my dad joining the FCI Community. We really thought that this transition from our family home to FCI was going to be a battle for us and a struggle for my father. It was the EXACT OPPOSITE of all our fears. I can't thank Charles and the FCI staff enough for making this difficult life decision an actual pleasant experience complete with laughter and smiles instead of tears. Bottom line, when you arrive at FCI and meet Charles, who understands due diligence, and get the full tour, you too will feel like FCI is the home away from home.

I started my journey looking for places for my dad to live in June. The first place we went was First Colonial Inn. Charles W. gave us a tour of the place and went over all the amenities and activities. He was very thorough. He was also understanding and answered all our questions. He was a true delight. We visited other places but my dad and I always compared them to First Colonial Inn and there really was no comparison. My dad now lives there and loves it! The people there are always so friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful place with lovely outdoor areas we just love especially all the trees and the duck pond. Charles W. had a welcome package for my dad with a ball cap with his name and a duck on it. He just loves it. Charles dealt with my constant questions and never made me wait for an answer. He was always available. Dana also was so helpful and had guided us through all the paperwork etc. We love First Colonial Inn and I highly recommend them. I could not get gotten through this without them!!!

Charles was wonderful to work with in getting a tour arranged for my mother. He did a phenomenal job with the tour and going the extra mile with a video of the apartment in question. He was a huge part of why my mother chose First Colonial Inn for her assisted living.

Dana G was extremely helpful with move in, billing and numerous miscellaneous question. Lastly but certainly not least, Tina has been amazing with assisting with the care component.

Living in assisted living with an independent spouse for over 6 months, we have actually enjoyed being a part of this community. Having experienced MANY other facilities, I am in a position to say that FCI is head and shoulders above the rest! Nestled in a leafy enclave just adjacent to the Hilltop area, FCI is convenient to shops, medical offices and the interstate. The grounds are beautiful with lush landscape, and pond filled with waterfowl! Management, staff, food services, social interactions are all thoughtfully presented. Hiring is done with an eye to preserving the "DNA" of the Inn - which is thoughtful interaction with the residents. Everyone seeks to build up, encourage and support. My spouse recently was absent for a family event, and my care was undertaken with consistency and care. We were both SO pleased that she will not hesitate to travel in the future. We give First Colonial Inn an A+!

This facility is by far the best in Hampton Roads. You can feel the love when you walk in door! Everyone from the executives to the cleaning crew all seem to love working there and it shows. The care they give your loved one is superior to none and their food is delicious! I go into all these types of senior living facilities for my job and I would tell you they are not all created equal. Go see for yourself and you will know they are the best community for Mom and/or Dad.
