Reviews The Forum at Overland Park
May 2024
From the begining of meeting Beth, signing the lease, and moving in to my mom's day to day life, Shannon and others took care of her needs. She had a wonderful exepreienc and so did the family. We want to thank them for everything they have done.
March 2024
Beth Hansel was fantastic to work with. She was patient and I was impressed with her throughout the process!
January 2024
After reviewing several places for my mom we decided to go here. After a couple months of living I would highly recommend this place. Everyone is very nice and all the residents enjoy living there. The staff have been working here for a long time compared to other places that have more turnover. What great is they have multiple dinner specials to choose from where as other places have one or maybe two specials but here they typically 3-4. They also do really nice dinner options for the whole family during the holidays. Maintenance staff is always quick to resolve issues. Not once did I have a concern for my mom staying here, and she really enjoyed it.
December 2023
I enjoy living here at The Forum. Residents are very friendly and it seems everyone knows everyone. Staff is also very friendly and helpful. Lots of activities and interesting things to keep busy with. I enjoy the exercise classes and other opportunities offered here.
December 2023
Walking in the door for the time was an immediate positive feeling. The Forum may have some aging problems, but it has a homey vibe. The residents are friendly and accepting. The staff is above average, I think. The food, even as the kitchen struggles with pandemic changes and inflation. Maintenance and repair are the main problems and disappointments.
December 2023
I truly enjoy living here. The location is convenient, the residents interesting and the staff excellent! The only complaint I have Is the food. It could be better. DeMar Regier
November 2023
We love living at the Forum. It is a wonderful friendly community of loving people . We highly recommend living here.
November 2023
My parents had a wonderful experience in the independent living residence at The Forum. The staff was professional yet warm and attentive. There were multiple opportunities for engagement whether it be the writing club, exercise class, playing bridge, field trips to area restaurants, or even happy hour before dinner. The food was varied and very good. Moving to The Forum was one the greatest decisions they made as it allowed their last few years to be interesting, fulfilling and as comfortable as possible.
November 2023
My dad recently moved into assisted living at The Forum and so far it's been a great fit for him. All the staff I've met so far are incredibly kind and caring. It's nice to know that he's in good hands.
October 2023
Making the decision to have a parent or spouse move to assisted living is an extremely difficult decision. The entire management team and staff at The Forum Assisted Living went above and beyond to help ease the burden for my family and the anxiety for our parent/spouse. Adjusting to a new living environment takes time, but everyone at The Forum was patient, understanding, encouraging and available. They are not only amazing with the residents, they are amazing with the residents' families. The nurses, OT and PT do an incredible job caring for the residents, and in our case, getting our parent/spouse to walk without any assistance. I cannot speak highly enough about The Forum. If you are looking for a place that will truly care about your family member who becomes a resident, and the resident's family, The Forum Assisted Living is where you should call home.

What a wonderful place! We recently moved my grandmother in and the staff were all excellent. They assisted with the transition beautifully and have been extremely helpful ongoing with her needs. Highly recommend if you are looking for a warm, loving place for your loved one.
August 2023
My grandmother has been living at The Forum for 6+ years now. She originally lived in the Independent Living wing and more recently has moved to the Memory Care facility. The staff and caretakers have been wonderful to her and very helpful to work with on our side of things. The community and atmosphere always have fun events taking place which helps keep everyone engaged!
June 2023
As my first experience of having a loved one reside within an assisted living community, I couldn't have imagined a more perfect fit than The Forum at Overland Park. I came across The Forum while researching AL communities for my grandmother. I called to inquiry about potential vacancies and tour options and was pleasantly surprised that not only was there one remaining apartment available, but that they were also able to fit us in for that very same afternoon. Before the tour even began, my family and I knew that The Forum was exactly what we were looking for, just by conversating with the Sales Director and Director of Resident Care. They both took the time to listen and understand my grandmother's situation and provided us with specific details of how The Forum would provide care and assistance for her. My grandmother has been residing at The Forum for nearly three months now and everything they outlined during that initial meeting has been met and exceeded. The facility: The Forum's AL capacity is 30 residents, which may seem small to some, but truly should be the preferred size (and industry standard) when planning for your loved one's transition. We've never had to worry about my grandmother getting overlooked or forgotten about due to a disproportionate staff to resident ratio. The unit branches into two hallways with 15 apartments each, promoting a spacious and yet easily navigable design for all residents (especially those who may need memory or ambulation assistance). Resident apartments are generously sized and feature amenities that really help make a resident feel right at home (and might make them not want to ever leave their room!). The amenities: there's simply not enough space to note them all, but a few highlights—three well-balanced and nutritious meals a day, resident-selected from a delicious menu; an activities calendar that is designed to promote daily socialization and physicality in a variety of ways; in-house beauty salon / barbershop to help residents polish off their lovely appearances; weekly community outings & in-unit guest entertainment; facility-provided transportation to and from medical appointments, etc. The staff: every day we continue to be impressed by just how incredible the AL staff is. Every single person—leaders (Executive Director, Director of Resident Care, Sales Director), caregivers (CNAs, CMAs, therapists, resident aides), activities coordinators, kitchen staff, housekeepers, maintenance techs, and concierge members—treats each resident with care, dignity, and respect. The team is communicative, transparent, and committed to fostering a collaborative experience with staff, residents, and family. The true shining note (and another "should be industry standard" metric): nearly the entire staff has been working at The Forum for 10+ years, and amazingly more than a handful have been on the team for 20 or 30+ years! It's this level of dedication to and passion for not only their career but The Forum community that is evident in every little interaction they have with residents and family. The residents: truly the kindest and most welcoming people we've had the pleasure of meeting. While we visit The Forum every day to see my grandmother, we also view it as our time to say "hello" and visit her AL neighbors! Since her very first day, the residents have been so friendly and helpful to my grandmother. And even a few have taken it on as their neighborly duty to keep a protective eye on her and share updates with us on how she's been fairing during the day. They have all unwittingly become members of our own family. Our experience with The Forum has far surpassed any of our expectations and is, hopefully, far from over. We will forever be grateful for the time my grandmother is able to spend within this community and amongst such wonderful staff and neighbors. The tl/dr: If you're searching for a caring and welcoming AL community in which your loved one can thrive and be treated with respect, dignity, and as family, than look no further than The Forum at Overland Park!

Beautiful facility. Staff that take care of your loved ones. I highly recommend
February 2023
I called looking for some information on skilled nursing facilities. The woman who called me back was more helpful than I could have ever imagined. She explained that The Forum used to have skilled nursing (which I recalled as my grandmother had been there years ago) but had phased that out during the pandemic. Instead of simply saying she couldn't help me, she provided me with multiple resources that might be able to help. She gave me names, locations, personal stories. She clearly went above and beyond, and I am so appreciative of her insight in an area where she clearly has expertise that I don't.
January 2023
First off, please know that I don't ever give five stars to anything that I review on Google or anywhere else. There is always room for improvement in every business and experience. Having said that, the Forum of Overland Park has been a fixture in Overland Park for decades. It remains a much smaller retirement community than so many others that have opened up in recent years. And being a small community serves the residents very well. It's not too big & not too small & offers activities and such for every personality & interest. It offers a homey, warm and comfortable environment. I've never seen a more caring staff of individuals... They really care about the happiness and well-being of every person who lives there. Each resident is treated as if they are family and that says it all. I would recommend the Forum of Overland Park to anyone looking for a new home for their loved ones, as we recently did.
November 2022
If you or a loved one is looking for a loving and caring retirement community, we highly recommend The Forum at Overland Park. The staff is beyond amazing. They truly care for each resident deeply and make them feel like family. The sense of community is genuine from the moment you come to visit for the first time. The staff knows each resident by name and is eager to please their residents and family members. All departments are very attentive and respond to requests/needs quickly and kindly. There may be fancier, newer communities in the area, but from our experience, there isn't a better home and community feel than The Forum. We are eternally grateful for the love and support from the staff and residents at The Forum. There aren't enough words to convey how pleased and grateful we are to everyone there. Knowing that our dad has been happy, cared for, loved and safe has meant the world to us.
November 2022
We just went through the process of finding an assistive living facility for a relative. Our family visited numerous locations. Our selection was the Forum. First and foremost, our decision was based on the staff. The nursing staff has been at the Forum for 15-20 years! Other staff has been exceptionally kind and professional. The Forum has more of a quaint feel to it rather than institutional. So far, they have delivered what was promised!

The Forum is a great "home" for retirement age individuals--friendly and helpful staff, attractive and well kept apartments, good location, many and varied activities, good food, 24 hour supervision and physical therapy inhouse available.
October 2022
The Forum at Overland Park is a dream come true. My father and his wife made a quick decision to move to KC with no warning. After visiting a number of options, they decided The Forum would meet their needs - a lovely facility, a perfect apartment available, friendly residents, delicious food - the list goes on and on. They were even able to stay in a furnished apartment while waiting for their furniture to arrive. They are thrilled with their decision and so am I.
September 2022
We visited The Forum at Overland Park after having a thorough phone conversation with Tritia Humphrey, Move-In Coordinator. She was very forth coming with the details we needed to know to decide if we wanted to move forward. When we visited The Forum in person, Tritia took all the time we needed to help us thoroughly tour the facility. She introduced us to staff, thoroughly answered questions, took us to specific residents rooms to see a plan. She even told us to "speak to anyone you meet while your here to ask about their experiences". Which by the way we did, and residences words matched their smiling faces. After the tour I texted and emailed further questions or request to Tritia for further information. I was always rewarded with a timely, thorough and happy to help attitude. A few days later, we came back with my mother-in-law and as expected Tritia listened well when my husband and I visited, so she was able to speak to my mother-in-law very specifically about her concerns. She introduced my mother-in-law to many residents and even invited her to stay for dinner. Even if you don't find The Forum the right place for your loved one, Tritia is a asset to your research. She knows all the residents by name, understands the layouts of the rooms, knows the staff and it's routines well and is very honest about The Forum. We have found Tritia to be very approachable, accessible, knowledgeable, honest and timely. She will individualize anything she can for you and goes out of her way to make The Forum understood so you can make a solid decision. We are going back again to look at a specific unit that Tritia knows is coming available and requested to have my mother-in-law stay for dinner during that visit. Very pleased each time we go with the place, the staff, the rooms, and Tritia Humphrey has been a treasure in helping us navigate this experience.
September 2022
My father moved into The Forum on January 8. Tritia Humprey who is the move-in specialist was exemplary. She helped us arrange and identify a furniture rental place, really got the renovation of the apartment expedited, helped with getting Spectrum set up, made sure that the welcome committee was there to get my dad acclimated to the different opportunities for socialization there. The front office people are fabulous Laura and Cathy and cheryl and Beth and others I'm sure I don't even remember their name. When we bring my big golden retriever Riley over, they always have treats for him. Shannan who is the Director of nursing has been great. People reach out to me to see how he's doing they stop in and visit with him Amy and Tara and Physical Therapist and occupational therapy have gone out of their way to address some of his vision issues. But mostly it feels like home and that was what my dad experienced. The people are extremely nice and Tritia is always checking in with me to see if there's anything else he needs, if there's something she can do, she's super friendly and extremely efficient and very good at what she does. As a former clinical social worker myself one of the things I look for is staff turnover rate and there are people that have been working at The Forum for over 20 years and that tells you a lot right there.
August 2022
My parents recently moved into The Forum, and I've never seen them happier! The staff is extremely personable, attentive and helpful, and the other residents welcomed them with open arms. They are meeting all sorts of new friends, and I couldn't be happier for both of them. They are truly living their "best life" in their new community.
June 2022
This is a great facility they have great dietary staff, dining staff, activity staff The location is great they're always energetic I would highly recommend this facility if you want to be here or bring your loved ones here
June 2022
My sibling has been a resident at The Forum at Overland Park for almost a year. The facility is very nice. The staff is very caring and attentive. Whenever I've had a concern, they've address it right away. I have peace of mind to know that they are well taken care of. They have met and exceeded my expectations on several occasions.
May 2022
Just wanted to thank the Forum for assisting us with our family's needs. We felt welcomed and had very good care during our stay. We had our mother staying in their respite care and we're very pleased with the efforts of everybody involved. Thank you for assisting us during this time of need!
March 2022
All the staff at The Forum are kind, welcoming and take excellent care of the residents. I couldn't have asked for a better place for my friend. Thank you to everyone at The Forum, your dedication means the world to us and our loved ones!
February 2022
My mother in law stayed at the Forum of OP for 10 days while we were on vacation. Beth and Dorcus are the best very helpful and Kind as well as the rest of the staff. My husband and I will use the Forum every time. Faith
November 2021
We have been a part of The Forum at Overland Park community since just before the pandemic when my mom moved in after a cross-country relocation. We are grateful for the quality of service they provided through the shut-down as they tried match community safety with the needs of their residents. The Forum is a very active community, with very friendly and attentive staff that facilitate activities for a thriving and welcoming senior living community. They also have made facility updates recently as they make effort to improve services while remaining stable and reliable option for seniors.
January 2021
Our loved one is new to The Forum. She has only been there for 3 months, but those 3 months have been great. The care has been absolutely top notch and we cannot say enough about the support we have gotten from Jennifer, the Executive Director. PS: The food is delicious.
November 2020
I rate independent living at the Forum a five star because it is a great place for my wife and me to live out the rest of our lives. Why, because of the daily social contact with other nice people at dinner time and in the many daily programs for your use or not, as you choose. The Forum is older but it has many amenities and it is the right size having only 117 units, and it is a rental only project. The food operation is very good, not fancy just good food prepared as you like it and with a good variety. Last night, I ordered the catch of the day, grilled salmon with a wonderful creamed sauce. You cant get a better tasting salmon anywhere in town. Also, very important is the staff. The general manager, maintenance and program director all do a wonderful job of serving our needs in a timely and pleasant manner. Therefore, we enjoy may happy and enjoyable days here. Im 89 now and have been here five years. I feel like I will stay another five or more years because there are so many here still active in their mid-nineties. That encourages my wife and me that we can do that also. Being here has been an important part of our recent life. We are here to live every day, not just waiting to die. If you are over 80, I encourage you to be at The Forum.
November 2020
I can not think of a more noble endeavor than to care for someones love one. To do so in the era of Covid by placing yourself in harms way is truly doing Gods work. The Forum is an exceptional organization with an amazing staff. The entire team at all levels was responsive, transparent and most importantly compassionate. From the beginning the skilled nursing team worked diligently to get my Mom home.My Mom going to the Forum was a blessing. Words can never convey our gratitude for all that the Forum did for our family.
November 2020
My rehabilitation stay at the Forum was amazing! The nursing staff was professional and attentive Simon, Johnna,Nikki, Nancy, Shelby and so many more were very caring. The P.T. staff was awesome as well as the dining staff, activity staff and Meghan in Social Services to name a few. You will love the care the Forum provides!
September 2020
I cant begin to say enough about what a special place The Forum is. Even before my mom moved into her apartment last fall, the staff went out of their way to make her move seamless. Sandy was always available to answer the myriad of questions we had. It was truly a joy working with her. The entire staff is always very friendly and kind. Their caring for the residents really makes it feel like a family. My mom has enjoyed getting to know her many new neighbors. There are numerous special events and activities offered on a regular basis. This spring when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, The Forum did, and continues to do, an amazing job of keeping everyone safe, healthy and happy. It has been such a comfort to our family to know that Mom is in a place she truly loves and with such wonderful, caring people. Thanks so much to everyone who makes The Forum such a special place!
May 2020
Moving to the Forum, we are extremely pleased with our decision. Employees are capable and seem eager to help us. Varied activities are abundant and dining is quite pleasant. We have yet to meet a troublesome occupant and we see opportunity to develop strong, durable friendships. Also, a medium size shopping mall across the street gives us additional flexibility. This is not to say everything is perfect. However, senior supervisors seem to listen, adapt and supervise for quality living. Thus we feel confident we have made the right decision in being here as we look forward to our remaining period of retirement at the right time and the right place.
May 2020
The Forum at Overland Park is simply the BEST. If you are reading this and wondering whether or not a senior living community is right for your beloved parents, I can say unequivocally, at least for mine... YES. My parents were in Independent Living and LOVED it here. Like everyone, you want what is best for your parents and its difficult navigating all the possibilities. This is a wonderful community, full of fun-loving, engaging, kind people (both staff and residents) and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I often laughed at needing to practically make an appointment to see my parents, they were so busy with activities, dinners with new friends, field trips to all the fun places in KC, etc. The staff cares about everyone and it is evident every day that this is more than just a job to them, as they all wear many hats and often drop what theyre doing to take care of someone in need. The chef takes much pride in his delicious offerings, and the dining room feels like home. The selection and quality are all-inclusive resort-worthy and again, the staff is professional and friendly. The special events and celebrations are as fabulous as anything you would see at the nicest country clubs. Everyone and everything here gives your favorite seniors reasons to LIVE and LOVE it here!
March 2020
This community is top notch! Very very consistent team that is led by phenomenal leaders and an executive director Jennifer that has been there for almost 20 years I believe. This is unheard of in this industry.
November 2019
My parents spent almost two years at the Forum -- with experience in independent living, rehab and skilled nursing there. Prior to that, my mom had also been in rehab in two other facilities (one of which was very shiny, new and beautiful from an aesthetic perspective), which gives me a good comparison point. Two things really stood about to me about the Forum: (1) The quality and continuity of care on the rehab, skilled side was far greater than we saw in other facilities. For my family, this was really important, as we had experienced other (newer, more updated) facilities where there was constantly staff turnover, nurses or aides not showing up for shifts, etc. (And when a parent is wheelchair, bed bound, this is a huge concern!) We never experienced that at the Forum; in fact, many of their staff have been there for years. (2) Secondly, the staff really became like family to both my parents and to our family as a whole. The staff genuinely showed concern and interest in my parents as people (not just as elderly patients), and I could not believe the outpouring of love, support, and hugs our family received from the staff as our mother was dying, and later when our father died. I would highly recommend the Forum to others in need of rehab or skilled nursing.
November 2019
Nicely updated apartments, wonderful food, and very caring and attentive staff. No wonder their vacancies are so few!
November 2019
My family has been at the Forum for 5 years. We have been so lucky to have experienced all levels of care. The employees at the Forum are respectful, caring and extremely knowledgeable. They understand the complex issues of aging in place as well as the issues that arise while family members are in the Healthcare unit. We as a family are thankful for there caring attitude.
October 2019
My family has experience with Rehab and Long Term Care at the Forum. The staff is caring, respectful and compassionate. Sandra, Nicole, Johnna, Jennifer, Isaac and Tabitha are just a few of the employees that make the Forum special. If youre looking for a nursing facility that truly cares about their residents, this is the place.
July 2019
The Forum has been part of our family for over 20 years - my grandmother lived here in the mid 90s and then my parents moved in about 10 years ago. Weve seen all of the levels - Independent, Assisted and Skilled - and they are all great! Some of the employees have been there since my grandmother lived there. We are very fortunate that our mom is in such an awesome, loving, caring place!
July 2019
My mother has had a lovely apartment at the Forum for almost 4 years and has been very happy and comfortable the entire time. It is a wonderful, inviting community that has a classic elegance for all its residents to enjoy. Not only are the apartments nicely appointed, but they are convenient to the dining room and activity areas. One of the most important points I want to convey is the sincerity and care that the staff gives to the residents. They are the truly lovely people, most have worked at the Forum for several years. This speaks volumes about quality of the individuals that are taking care of your loved ones. You will find that the staff go the extra mile to serve each person. The staff is kind, sensitive, supportive, and professional. I highly recommend The Forum if you are looking for a place to feel comfortable and at home.
April 2019
My father toured several different senior living facilities in Johnson County before deciding on the Forum. My husband had worked there for many years so I knew that he would be happy and well cared for living in independent living. The apartments are beautiful and well maintained, the food is delicious and plentiful but the most important piece is that people are cared for like theyre caring for their own family members. It is small enough that everyone who works there knows the residents. They are treated with respect and dignity. He only lived in Independent living for a few months but he met some really nice people. When he became ill and had to move to the nursing unit for the last week of his life, again the care he received from the nurses and the nursing staff was wonderful. I appreciate the tender care that he was given in the last days of his life.
April 2019
The Forum at Overland Park is a fantastic assisted living facility. Very clean and the aatf is top notch. Kelly gave us comfort as a family and Sandi is one of the best in the city. Our bbq family trusts them. 5 star spectacular
February 2019
The staff is generally capable of doing their jobs. The management works well with the patients and if you have any issues they will listen to you and try to make workable changes. This has been contributed by someone who has lived in all three levels of care.
November 2018
I lived at The Forum at Overland Park for 19 months in independent living. It was a good experience because:The kitchen is excellent; The staff was always helpful and pleasant; andThe residents were diverse, interesting and friendly.I left because I married, but would return if necessary.
September 2018
We have been here at the resort for nearly 6 years. It is wonderful! Our staff is both friendly and always helpful. We have marvelous meals provided by a great chef and his excellent staff served by young folks that are patient and caring. We are surrounded by other folks like us, we are the smallest of similar facilities, who share our enjoyment and camaraderie daily. There is always something to do if one is so inclined. Last, we have the very best location, convenient to everything we need.Do we like it and recommend It? Absolutely!
June 2018
My mother had a very successful stay here after surgery. Even when I could tell it was crazy busy nurse Simon responded and answered my questions. I highly recommend the Forum to anyone that has a loved one. I commend Simon he is a awesome!
May 2018
Our mother was a resident at The Forum in both the rehab unit and the assisted living wing. The care she received from the nursing staff, therapists, and everyone involved with her care was exceptional! The social worker made sure her moves and care were coordinated with as little stress as possible, and the Executive Director was accessible and available and was always knowledgable about our moms situation. We would not have had her living anywhere else in the Kansas City area. This is a first class facility! Thank you to everyone who helped us!
October 2017
My Mother lived at the Forum for the last 10+ years. She lived at all three levels of care and we were very happy with her care. She lived in Independent Living for 7 years. She enjoyed the camaraderie, took part is activities and loved the food. The dining room staff made special efforts to know peoples names, likes and dislikes. When she gave up her car, she took full advantage of the driver services the Forum offered, This gave her the opportunity to keep playing bridge and get to appointments without having to depend on others. Staying independent was important to her. When time came to for more care, the Assisted Living wing worked out very well. The staff was very attentive and caring.. The staff became friends of both my mother and me. They did their best to accommodate the special needs she had, both physically and medically. When she finally had to move to skilled nursing, I was amazed at her progress. The staff, once again, did everything they could to keep her mobile and still independent as possible in the final stages of her life. Once again the staff was attentive, efficient, understanding and caring.Over the years we had several birthday parties and special events there. The Physical Therapy department was also helpful. My family very much appreciated all the Forum did for my Mother and we highly recommend it.
June 2017
Both of my parents moved to the Forum in 2013 and immediately felt at home. Not only were many of the residents already friends, former classmates, etc., but the staff was very welcoming and competent. After my mother passed away, my father moved to a smaller apartment. My father passed away this past summer. All through our familys tough times with our parents health, the Forum was always supportive, friendly, and so nice to deal with. I definitely recommend the Forum.
June 2016
My father lived at The Forum for over 10 years. He moved from Independent Living to Assisted Living then to the Health Care Unit. I can not say enough about the loving care he received from the staff especially during his stay at the Health Care Unit. His care givers were incredible and treated him with the utmost dignity and respect. My siblings and I all live out of town so The Forum staff and residents were his adopted family. We will never forget what great care he received.
December 2014
My mother was a resident at The Forum this past year and our family was very satisfied with the level of care she received. From the top administrators to the nursing staff, my mother received around the clock care, while the family was consistently updated on her progress. It was not uncommon to see the staff holding my moms hand on the way to therapy, which was very comforting to her and our family. I would highly recommend The Forum for your family member in need.Jeff Grantham, Overland Park
