Reviews The Plaza at Westwood
May 2024
I have been at the plaza for four months after spending three years at a different facility across town. My experiences at the other facility were awful from start to finish so I was really ready to make a change for the better and this is better than that. Much better. When I first got to the plaza. My previous experience had left me in a not so great emotional and psychological place. Teresa, and Luz as well as the kitchen did and continue to do everything they can to ease my transition to the plaza. Teresa is always ready and willing to sit and listen to anyone's complaint or troubles and most of the time it's not even her job. She listens and helps where she can with a smile in every contact I have had. To date she helped to coordinate a new primary care, physician, a new pharmacy, and assistance with finding other medical care as needed. Somehow, she managed to accomplish this in about 48 hours. Luz has been something of a miracle worker in her dealing with me. I came into the Plaza in pretty bad shape. I was upset, scared, and feeling incredibly vulnerable as one does when coming into this type of a living situation. Luz assisted me every step of the way, hearing me out for all of my complaints and concerns, addressing each and every one of them and often visiting my room to make sure that things are continuing to be ok. When possible Luz visits with all our tables during meal times to chat and check in with every resident. My dining partner tells me that Luz even drove out to Riverside County for her initial intake interview. For me Luz has been wonderful. We have an older crowd here with ages ranging from late 60s up to one gent who celebrated his 104th Birthday here a few weeks back. My experiences with staff here, but for one interaction has been wonderful. Servers, housekeeping, maintenance are all giving and warm people. I don't yet require a caregiver but several folks here do. Once the resident is situated at their table the caregivers rather than disappearing can be found just outside the dining room discretely keeping an eye on everything and all of us. I have only ever had one negative interaction with a staff member here and they are not on caregiving staff. In my experience the receptionist is incredibly hard to deal with on an ongoing basis. I have dealt with and witnessed loud and intimidating outbursts of anger. I have seen these outbursts, not only directed at me but at others as well. She is literally the only thorn in my side at the plaza. As a vegetarian, I had trouble at my previous facility for the entire three years I was there getting an adequate diet and meal plan. Here at the plaza, Luz working directly with me as well as the kitchen have come up with an incredibly wonderful and varied vegetarian menu. Some of the foods that they have prepared for me have been wonderful and delicious. And if by chance I'm not fond of what is on the menu that night, the kitchen here is always willing to help me out with an omelette or a nice stuffed, baked potato, a large dinner salad, or several other options always available for me at any meal. I don't get around as much as I used to, but I still like to go out and walk every single day and a few feet off of Westwood Boulevard is some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Los Angeles. I love this area for walking! I know not every place is good for everyone. I can tell you from my heart though, I am happier at the Plaza then I could've thought possible in any assisted-living facility, and it is my home.

My father recently passed away but was a resident of Westwood Plaza Assisted Living Facility for over 3 years. I visited him at least 3 times a week so I have a lot of familiarity with the facility. My dad's room was wonderful with a balcony and a view and was always clean. The staff are amazing, from Faye at the front desk, to Theresa the nurse, to the weekly caregivers, the activity director, the dining services, the laundress, maintenance and housekeeping - they are all attentive, caring and always go above and beyond. Both my father and I felt that my father was extremely well-cared for. Luz Rose, the director, is phenomenal. While Luz was always there to help, when my father began to decline, Luz was especially there to help me navigate the new situation. Her door was always open. Luz truly cares for the residents and their families as well as the staff there. I highly recommend Westwood Plaza.
