Reviews Bishop Drumm Retirement Center
January 2025
Aides run the place and their favorite hangouts are empty patient rooms or the TV room to sleep in at night. In the past week I have seen one aide -- in the Dining Room. Had to take my own dirty laundry to the laundry room...residents that are bed bound yell for help when no one answers their call light then when you ask them to help they say they can't hear the yelling. They then go to the room and shut the door! If you care about your loved one, find someplace else!

I'm eating from out of state so cannot rate the actual facility findings however from Mississippi the nursing staff have gone above and beyond to tell me if my dad's care and gotten him on the phone where he has expressed the exact details of his meals daily which from working as a nurse in the field over 30 years the meals and staff and very important and patients generally loose weight when the food and care are not good I only gave a three star as I cannot rate the facility without seeing it

SEE ADDENDUM BELOW Two stars because the staff really cared, but if you had zero ratings you would have gotten zero! I had to call the center 4 times yesterday to find out the status of my husbands planned discharge, leaving messages with different staff. The 5th time I called physical therapy and they told me he has been discharged! No one called me with the news. He rides on a scooter so I needed to bring out our accessible van to pick him up! Their van was being used, so they couldn’t transport him. That was the second time they couldn’t transport when he went to the doctor last week ! As we were finally leaving, I asked the is there anything we need to do to leave? She didn’t know he was being discharged. She printed out the discharge summary and we came home. We were told Unity Point at Home would be calling to set up a time to come out to dress his wound. When we didn’t hear from them I called. They did not receive any referral. Their process takes 24-48 hours to process So probably after thanksgiving!!! He has an open hole in his belly due to surgery. It is supposed to be dressed 2times per day. No dressing material was sent home, no directions how to dress it and I received no training on how to do it ! When we moved him in, the room was clean, but the window blinds were crooked, partially raised and askew! Very unwelcoming! We had to drive him to the facility, so 3 times on our own to get him where he needed to be. Bottom line, Don’t send your loved ones here to recuperate if possible ADDENDUM: we have been very pleased with upper management reaching out. The director of nursing came to our home to redress my husband’s bandage. They have been in touch with Unity Point at home to get the in home nursing visits made and have indicated they will be addressing the issues we brought up. Thank you! We have changed our rating to a 3 due to the management response and it’s swift response! It’s still not a 4 or 5, but better than a 2!

I recently had a stay in skilled rehabilitation. I got very good care. Almost everyone was kind and took good care of me. I could go to mass. They had activities to help pass the time. I really liked the staff. I live in the Independent Living and I have wonderful neighbors. We are like a family here.

My name is Mabel M Jones and I have been a resident of Bishop Drumm Retirement Center during the month of November. The nurses have been most kindly, caring and sincere in their care. The aids and rest of the staff have been helpful and kind . You should be proud of your Bishop Drumm Center. Thank Social Worker Almedina for her work in getting us all the follow up treatment in Mitchell. It was nice that she helped make my mind at ease. My husband was treated well by the staff. Thank you for all you did for our family.

Bishop Drumm has a deep rooted feeling of carIng. Since 1999 Ive met great people including the Sisters and staff from all levels of care. I worked in 4 positions during 21 years and married my husband here. One act of kindness put BD over the top . Beth was responsible for having a meal ready for us as I was released from a hospital stay. Also, the therapy team was very helpful during my therapy stay. A great teamwork approach,

After my life altering accident, the cnas, nurses and staff were caring and have put me on a great road to recovery. They created a comfortable, healing environment & helped me set up my room and electronics to feel as close to home as possible. Thank you all so much! This place has an outstanding therapy dept. They have given me the most wonderful gift of teaching me to walk again! Thank you everyone!

Ive been a resident at McCauley Terrace Apartments and utilized the Bishop Drumm Care Center for Rehabilitation services. I enjoy How the staff helps with any requests i need. The convenience store, Bingo, and other activities are great. My apartment is also very close to the chapel for attending church services and Hyvee is right across the street for groceries. The meals provided are very good and the staff and cooks are friendly.

Ive been a resident at Bishop Drumm for 3 years. Throughout my time as a resident, staff are always willing to help me with all my needs and problems. Ive had several special requests and they make me feel like they are always doable. The food is great and I enjoy the special luncheons they provide for residents. I understand this is has been a challenging time during the COVID 19 Pandemic, and the staff have done a great job of helping all the residents.

Staff and nurses are very friendly. My mother was treated very well here.
January 2021
Early on in my moms stay, the ostamy bags that were used kept overfilling and exploding. I expressed my concern and they worked harder to keep that from happening. He doctor prescribed better bags as well which helped. Pretty sure they were short staffed during this pandemic which caused some difficulty, but overall my mom felt comfortable and taken care of by the staff and nurses. The staff kept me up to date with her appointments during this difficult time...

Bishop Drumm has very caring staff. During my 7 year stay at At McCauley Terrace Independent Living, the maintenance department staff are always quick to resolve any requests I have. The Resident Assistants are on call 24, 7 for us & that is very comforting to me and my family, especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic. I would highly recommend Bishop Drumm McCauley Terrace Independent Living to anyone seeking independent living care.

This is a much better nursing home, nursing staff, caregivers, and administrators than the other two nursing homes I have been in before.

Bishop Drumm is a great place to come for short or long term care. My husband and I have have been residents there and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They take great care of your physical and mental health needs. Ive been a resident at Bishop Drumm a couple times due to an auto-immune disease & both times I have received wonderful care. They have been patient & have always been willing to help me with my needs. Its a great place to be if you or your loved ones need skilled nursing, independent living or assisted living care.

I like Bishop Drumm Retirement Center. Overall, BDRC has a lot of good things going on. When one gets of a certain age or develops an infirmity that requires around-the-clock care, its a big deal. Not just for the person entering a long term care facility, but for the family and friends, who quite often are responsible for initiating and paying for the life-changing event. Such matters are frequently difficult, if not painful. BDRC is ready to provide three hots and a cot, activities, therapy, access to counseling, coordinate transportation and doctors visits, and whatever a human being needs to stay healthy and clean on a daily basis. Showers a couple times a week. I see one fellow really dinged the facility. No clue if hes family, a former employee, or someone with expectations beyond what is basically available. Dont know. Anyway, my experience over the last year has been positive. People and businesses - that are made up of other people - have good days and not so good days. A person has to ask themselves, Based on my budget, and comparing this facility to other similar facilities, how much help do I need to survive in old age (rehab or chronic sickness), and what can I afford to pay? If one has unlimited resources, or ridiculously high expectations, then maybe in-home private nursing is best for whomever. If you or your loved one are existing on the charity of others, then perhaps it would be well to abide and be thankful for the blessings that do come your way. Again, I like Bishop Drumm Retirement Center.
