Reviews Magnolia Manor Assisted Living
August 2024
I waited for several days to post this review because I truly love to support local businesses and really wanted this experience to work out for us. After almost a week I still feel very strongly about our horrible experience with Magnolia Manor and feel the need to share it so that it doesn't happen to anyone else. We used this facility for respite care for my dad when we traveled out of state for our daughter's college graduation. We visited Magnolia Manor twice prior to his stay, once I went alone and the second time I took my dad. We found the respite room to be well appointed, clean and overall pleasant. I outlined his specific needs to the owner, Robbin, to make sure they were capable of helping him. He needs help getting in and out of bed or a chair, with bathing, getting dressed, and making sure his hearing aids and dentures are in. He is completely deaf without the hearing aids. I was told that all of those things were definitely part of their care but that we would need to pay an additional daily fee. We were happy to do that. I was a little nervous when I learned that the owners would be on vacation the week that Dad would be there but they assured me he would receive great care. I should have trusted my gut. I brought two pages of notes with him (things that Robbin and I had discussed) to make sure the staff was aware of the extra help he needed. I am not sure whether the staff just didn't do much because the owners were gone or whether this is standard but here were some of the things we experienced: Dad was not even there for 24 hours when he fell out of bed and cut his head. He laid on the floor for approximately 30 minutes before he was found. He said he pushed his button numerous times but no one responded. They found him on the bathroom floor where he had crawled when no one came to help. When they called me to inform me of the fall, they told me they had called his hospice nurse but they would clean him up before she got there. It took the nurse approximately two hours to get there and she found him still bloody; no one from Magnolia Manor had done a thing to clean him up. I had friends visit my dad every day that he was there. They would send me pictures so I could see how he was doing. On the third day it dawned on me that he still had the same clothes on that he wore when we brought him in. My friends constantly had to ask the staff to clean him up; the aides did the bare minimum. On several occasions no one helped to put his hearing aids or dentures in. His clothes were thrown in the bottom of his closet and one of my friends had to take them home and wash them (despite being told his laundry would be done). They did not shower or shave him once while he was there (7 days) and his bedding reeked of urine when we arrived to pick him up. There was an outbreak of COVID and they had to shut the dining room down (understandable). BUT, no one explained that to my dad. He stayed in his room by himself wondering what was going on. I expressed my concern to the owner when we came to get him. She was back to work that morning and was as mortified as I was. I do believe she was sincere (she said she was embarrassed and said "we did a shitty job of caring for your dad" - her exact words). She did refund us the additional money for the help we paid for. We appreciated her accountability and that is why our review is 2 stars instead of 1. We are not a demanding family by any means. We were so hoping this respite option would work out or that Magnolia Manor might even become a long term option for us. It took us 4 nights to get Dad to not have night terrors when he got home. That, to us, spoke volumes. We are sharing our experience in the hopes that others who are considering this facility will really ask the tough questions before making a decision. We, ourselves, will never go back.

I'd give Magnolia Manor a 10 Star rating if I could. Best Staff, best care, best live entertainment - I even enjoy visiting my two elderly parents, the environment is so enjoyable and clean!! I'm going to reserve a room for me if they take reservations thirty years from now. Marlen & Glory & Cameron aka "Scarecrow"-inside joke, and all the staff, I mean each and every one makes me feel good that we made the right decision with my parents Golden Transfer! All My Best To Barbara for her creation and love of care for those in transition! Steve

Magnolia manor has been a God send: This family run facility makes you feel like Family. When I brought my mom there I was so scared and didn't know what to expect. And so many questions? All the staff really showed my mom and me so much love Especially the assistant director Glory. She explained the layers of care that my mom would be receiving and the very high standards she demands for all hair caregivers. Magnolia manor truly save my mom. And I now have a piece of my knowing she is getting the best care. Mom has been there now going on 5 months and loves it. The facility is very clean and well maintained. I also want to thank a few caregivers. They are really doing the day-to-day care for my mom. And they do it because it's a calling in their life not just a job thank you,Shirlain,Thank you Jahnaye,Thank you,Ellen, thank you Cameron,Thank you Amy...Thank you to all the staff.Thank you Robin and Barbara for doing what God has placed on your heart to do.

Magnolia Manor is a beautiful place. The staff is amazing. The building inside and out is always nice and clean.

From the moment I spoke to the owner, Barbara, on the phone, I knew this place was different. Once I took a tour, I was convinced this was "home" for mom. It's such a difficult decision to make this step. MM reassured me that everything I was concerned about was handled. My mother has been there for 3 weeks now and is "right at home" knowing other people and getting acclimated to her new environment. Southern charm is a core value. Caring hearts work here and do an amazing job of making it NOT feel like a facility but rather home. Smiles and hugs greet my mother every day. Words of encouragement keep her happy. So accommodating with all of her needs. Make sure MM is on your list when interviewing ALF's. A God Send for sure.

This is a wonderful home. The care is great. The building is kept immaculate. They just went through a renovation and I love the warm colors, beautiful artwork. Yet it retained its warm, homey atmosphere. A must see!

July 2020
I have only seen and read wonderful things about this place. I live right next to Magnolia Manor. I have never written a review anywhere so bare with me . Everyday in the morning I see this nice young girl walk with some elderly people that live there and she always waves at me with such delight . I only started seeing her about 3-4 months now. I started to notice a change in the elderlys attitude since I noticed she worked there or maybe she lives there too ( a person can only asume ) . You can really tell she loves what she does with those people. I also encountered her before at local stores driving the company vehicle . I dont know her name, but she always has positive wonderful attitude. This young lady is very kind and generous. Since I live right by the facility, I get to see how it functions . I always tell my husband that its convenient living right by this facility knowing we would be safe and happy to live there one day . All the people that work there seem so nice . Im sure its taxing working so often and not getting enough break or pay so I figured Id write something to brighten someones day . I have never been inside the facility because of the virus, but as soon as it opens up I would love to volunteer there .I would love to come inside and engage with the people there as Im about to retire . I hope to live there one day with my husband . Im sure my children would approve of this 5 star resort as well. I hope this review makes a difference in someones life. Thank you Magnolia Manor for taking care of Tampa Bays elderly community.I take joy knowing that you are my neighbors.

I have to take a minute to again thank the caring and giving staff at Magnolia Manor. We have been dealing with governmental paperwork for our mother that lives at Magnolia. The staff has shown that are willing to help at every turn and were a great help in getting us through the 39 pages of documents in ten different forms required by the government. Thanks Barbara, Ronnie, Glory, Claudette and Jo for all your valuable assistance, AGAIN!!

Moved my 96 year old Mom to Magnolia Manor right before Christmas, 2018. She had been at another ALF for over five years, and after it was purchased by an out of state entity, it went downhill fast. The difference between it and Magnolia is night and day. The Owner, Administrator and staff at Magnolia are excellent. They have given Mom more personal attention in the two short months she has been there, than the last place did in the last two years. An amazing place, with amazing, and caring employees.

Theyve been wonderful to my Godmother and our entire family!

We were treated just like family with every bit of empathy by Robbin Lozano the Executive Director. She went above and beyond our expectations. Our mother was in great need to leave another facility that she had a bad experience at, and Robbin was so kind and professional ,she helped us get through the process quickly and not only was my mother happy to make the change she loved everything about Magnolia Manor. It is just lovely there and the staff is very very kind and extremely considerate. We really feel blessed to have found this wonderful ALS for our mother!!!!Marybeth Deer

Just moved my 96 year old Mom to Magnolia Manor from a different ALF. In the short time she has been at Magnolia, she has been shown more attention, love and caring than she received at the other place in the last three years. Magnolia Manor truly lives up to its motto.
October 2018
My Dad had been at Magnolia since the day they opened their doors. The staff communicate well and are clear with what their expectations are for the resident as well as the family members, caregivers. They have many activities and outings. Overall, we have been impressed with everything!

Magnolia Manor is a fabulous assisted living facility! I have work there as a contractor and found the staff to be extremely pleasant and helpful. It is a family owned and run facility providing excellent and care to their residence. Its beautiful and is kept up very well. They take a lot of pride in the care that they provide. If an assisted living facility is what you need, you should check this one out.
