Reviews Barrington of Oakley
July 2026
Our dad lived at Barrington of Oakley on the memory care unit for 3+ years. It was a fantastic experience. The facility is wonderful, the food is decent but best part is the staff! The Aides and Nurses are the absolute best. They took amazing care of our dad and he loved it there! They are caring, compassionate and make sure the residents get the best possible life! They genuinely care for the residents! In addition, their turnover rate is low which is unusual in this industry! The administration is excellent and great with communication. It was a wonderful choice for our dad!

I recently visited Barrington of Oakley, and I came away with such a positive impression. From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt welcomed. The community has a warm, inviting atmosphere that immediately feels like home. What touched me most was how kind and attentive everyone was. The staff took the time to interact with residents with genuine compassion, patience, and respect. You can tell they truly care about the people who live there, and that means so much. The community is beautiful, spotless, and thoughtfully designed, and it was wonderful to see residents engaged, smiling, and enjoying their day. It gave me a real sense of comfort knowing that this is the kind of place where people are treated with dignity and kindness. If you’re looking for a senior living community for someone you love, I highly recommend Barrington of Oakley. I left feeling confident that the residents are in caring hands, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to family and friends.

Helpful staff. I called the office to confirm the details of a delivery our company, Sleep Outfitters Kenwood, was going to be completing to one of your new move in residents. The office personnel were detailed which is nice to have prior to our delivery there. We look forward to further assisting your residents!

Took a tour with my mother. Beautiful community, very clean and welcoming. Staff seemed very kind and genuine. We visited the dining room and the food and service were both excellent.

Great place! The residents and staff are so welcoming and there is so much to do! Most importantly, my mom loves it here.

As the daughter of a resident at The Barrington, I truly can’t express enough how thankful I am for the incredible staff. From day one, they have treated my mother with kindness, dignity, and genuine care. What I love most is how they create realistic, engaging activities that help the residents continue to feel independent and purposeful. It’s not just about keeping them busy ” it’s about preserving their sense of self. The dining experience is also beautifully set up like a restaurant, allowing residents to order their meals in a way that feels normal and empowering. Most importantly, my mom has never once felt unwanted or overlooked. She is happy, comfortable, and truly enjoys being there ” and as her daughter, that peace of mind means everything. I am beyond grateful for The Barrington and the compassionate team that makes it feel like home. ’

As someone who works in senior living, I had the opportunity to visit and I can confidently say this is a high-quality community. Strong leadership, a dedicated team, and a clear commitment to residents and families. The environment is positive, professional, and thoughtfully managed. A great example of how senior living should be done, well done Oakley.

They could use more staff in the dining room but otherwise, this facility is lovely. There are activities for residents every single day and special events, the food is good most of the time, the facility is clean and well maintained, and the staff is very kind and helpful. All the residents here seem to be in a good mood!

Our mother resided in the memory care unit for more than 2 years. We had explored a number of facilities around greater Cincinnati. Choosing Barrington of Oakley wound up as a decision we were glad we made. Mom was generally comfortable in her surroundings which is no small fete when dealing with a person afflicted with advanced dementia. She had the good fortune of being cared for by some extraordinary caregivers. There were regular activities for the residents and the caregivers were generally attentive to our Mother’s individual needs. She enjoyed the food and was grateful for the care she received as were we.

My sister lived at The Barrington of Oakley the past four years. The first two in independent living and the last two in Memory Care. Everyone on the staff were wonderful. I always felt that she was safe and well taken care of. She loved the food and always said they made all the stuff she liked. It was a hard decision to move her to their Memory Care floor but it was the right decision. The extra care and help she received was excellent. When she passed away the staff was so caring.

Refreshing. This is a beautiful community. I stopped in for an event and a quick visit. I was blown away. You can tell by the atmosphere that it is managed well and they really care. Keep up the great work.

My father has been living alone at Barrington of Oakley for almost 4 years now. We both love the place. I think 4 things make it a unique and really special retirement home in Cincinnati: 1. It's month to month rent. No deposit. No big commitment. Leave whenever you want to (or need to). The price is middle of the road compared to other assisted living facilities in Cincinnati. 2. It's "age in place" "a la carte" care. You stay in your apartment, and they bring whatever services or equipment you need to you. They have, I believe, 6 levels of assisted living care, and you can change each month. Everyone in the building is a least level 1, which means you get an emergency call button "dog tags" to hang around your neck, staff check on you daily, and staff are available for emergencies. If you need a hospital bed, they set it up in your living room. You need nursing care, they send a nurse (or 2 or 3) to your apartment for as many hours as you set up. They have in house physical therapy and in house cardiac rehab. All ability levels are mixed together on the residential hallways (other than memory care), so there is a nice heterogeneous community in terms of needs and abilities. And if you need more care, you don't have to go anywhere (like to a separate assisted living building or floor). You just stay in your apartment, and they send what you need to you (and bill you extra for it monthly, according to a prearranged level of care table). 3. They have 3 set meal times in the dining room per day and a specialist whose job it is to create eating groups with 1 to 5 other residents you enjoy eating with -- a different group of people at your table for each meal. You can request a change if you want, until everyone is happy. Once everyone at your table is happy, you will have 3 eating groups: one for breakfast, a different one for lunch, and a third group for dinner. And you will eat with these same 3 groups everyday until someone requests or requires a change. This is a big plus because it means each resident gets to know at least 5 to 15 other residents they enjoy spending time with every day. To me, this is super important. How many 90 year old men do you know who have the social skills or energy to call up strangers they don't know and arrange a lunch date. Hint: it's none. They just end up getting discouraged and having food delivered to their room and eating alone. Depressing. 4. They have a top-notch, locked and secure memory care floor that uses the same elevator as the other 3 floors. If one member of a couple is in memory care, the spouse can live/sleep in their own apartment on one of the standard residential floors, and easily visit their loved one as often as they would like just by getting in the elevator. The Barrington memory care is not down the street or in another building like it often is. 5. It's a good size. Around 200 residents of varying abilities. Everyone gets to know everyone: the other residents and the terrific staff. The staff is knowledgeable, fun, energetic, kind, and caring. The only thing the Barrington does not offer is true skilled nursing home, hospital style, care. If god forbid that is ever needed, you may have to move elsewhere (but at least you don't lose some huge deposit). If you are looking for a loving place to safely, gracefully, and respectfully age in place, and if having friends and spending time with people is important to you, check out the Barrington of Oakley.

My mother, Marianne Radtke, has been a resident of Barrington for almost four years and our family has experienced a wonderful and caring relationship with all of the staff. I would recommend The Barrington to any family considering a quality care facility for their loved one.- Mark.

Barrington of Oakley has THE BEST happy hours! They had a Shark week themed happy hour and the culinary team did an amazing job!
September 2024
After calling many memory care facilities and feeling helpless, I called Barrington at Oakley. I’m glad I did! I spoke with the most amazing woman by the name of KD Marino. She was such a blessing! Though we cannot not afford for our mother to stay in the facility, she referred me to others who could help. She took time out of her day to speak with me, knowing we could not afford it. She never made me feel inferior, only understood and cared for. She did whatever she could to help me with finding care for our mother. For that KD, God bless you! I pray that she is a reflection of Barrington at Oakley because if she is, it is truly a beautiful place to live.

I’m not sure why this says that it’s an assisted living facility. It does provide assisted living options but it is also a LTC facility. I think this should be advertised as such.

The Memory care department at Barrington of Oakley LACKS confidence and FAILS to deliver LEADERSHIP / COMMUNICATION / ACCOUNTABILITY / PROFESSIONALISM / COMPASSION AND PROPER TRAINING!! The following is our brief experience at the Barrington. - First of all, YOU WILL HAVE TO BE FULLY INVOLVED EVERYDAY TO ENSURE YOUR LOVED ONE IS RECEVING PROPER CARE! - The GROSS LACK of LEADERSHIP ensures that the daily care plan does not exist! There is no set schedule, each IMPROPERLY TRAINED aide seems to ignore the policy set fourth and tends to be on their own program, at the expense of the residents! - Most Aides are very AGGRESSIVE IN TONE AND BODY LANGUAGE especially when waking residents in the morning. Often times NO toileting upon waking. - Meal time is RUSHED AND LOUD some of the residents often seem agitated. - Most residents will Sit in their chair watching TV (LMN) all day long. - Observed Aides sitting down playing on their cell phones while residents were in NEED OF ASSISTANCE. When asked why they ignore the residents, the aides respond with, “they are having a moment.” However, a properly trained aide would realize there is a problem, and they are not just having a moment! - ACCOUNTABILITY LEAVES MUCH TO BE DESIRED. The night shift is understaffed. Most aides avoid policy and DO NOT check on residents every two hours during the night as promised, lucky if it is every 6 hours. Sometimes NOT at all! When we would be leaving for the night, a couple of aides would say to us “I didn’t know anyone was still here.” - Apartment NOT cleaned daily, bed NOT made, sheets NOT cleaned, DIRTY DISHES accumulate in the sink, TRASH PILES UP FOR DAYS. - DIRTY CLOTHES in hamper for days, damp clothes folded and put back into dresser. Clean sheets were put on bed over a SOILED MATTRESS PAD. - Mom’s fall changed from, “I woke her up in the morning, needed to get gloves came back and found her on the floor to,” “I didn’t see anything.” Policy states that the Dr. is notified when a fall occurs. That did NOT happen. - Our Dad was on a liquid diet. NO SOLID FOOD. His meals consisted of a burrito and a sandwich. We provided the protein shakes, however, he never got them. He couldn’t walk, yet his solid food meals were placed on the kitchen table while he was across the room in his recliner. - DOCUMENTS ARE FULL OF MISTAKES! Shower log annotates showers given on days when our mom was not in the building and on a day when she was sick. - MANAGEMENT IS TOO TOLERANT OF SERIOUS ERRORS! Several times medication had not been administered in the evening hours. One nurse “FORGOT” to give medication two evenings in a row! As well as signing for medication administered daily, when it is only to be giving once every six months. NO ATTENTION TO DETAIL! - Highly recommend installing CAMERAS inside the apartment! Often times the aides would BLOCK or UNPLUG the cameras. This behavior naturally begs the question, what are you doing or NOT doing that you don’t want the family members to see? - LACK OF COMPASSION, Day after our dad died, we were there comforting our mom and the nurse demanded that we leave. She RUDELY escorted us out of the building on the orders of the Memory Care Director. This is the same nurse that FORGOT to give our mom her pain medication two days in a row! - To resolve any problems you must COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN! We had three meetings with the Executive Director and the Memory Care Director all to no avail! - Clearly the Barrington’s memory care staff is more concerned about their own well-being and NOT the residents! LACK OF LEADERSHIP and IMPROPERLY TRAINED AIDES have produced a very caustic and corrosive environment for the residents. WHAT A SHAME!

Linda Boden was extremely helpful to me. While we can’t afford the apartment we were looking at, she helped recommend other places and went out of her way to be as helpful as she could given our situation with my husband’s advanced dementia. I can’t say enough good about her professionalism, trustworthiness, and knowledge.

Nice building inside and out. Lots of friendly and caring residents and staff, however after spending several hours a day over 5 days visiting my parent on the memory care floor, there were several concerns...from inadequate staff to assist those who cannot feed themselves, and a couple aids just going through the motions with bully like speech/attitude, to multiple workers on cell phones, taking personal calls or scrolling while with resident needing full assistance to eat. Ii did not fond Management receptive to my concerns but I hope they at least act on the safety /health related ones. There were many caring and friendly workers too., just need to weed a few out or rotate them if they are burned out. It’s a very difficult job. They may just need a break or some retraining. Regrettably I can only give 2. Stars now, but do see potential for more with a few improvements!

This was my parents’ home for 2.5 years, and they had a great life there. Many new friends were made, and I always knew they were in the best of hands. The care they received from the staff was incredible, and gave me great comfort knowing they were so well looked after when I couldn’t be there.

The staff is very warm, friendly and loving toward each of the residents. You can tell they really care! They have activities all day long! Then you can dine on great food in the formal dining room.
