STAFF WAS SO RUDE TO VOLUNTEERS. I recently went with my friend to visit her grandmother. When I came in I noticed a group of singers and what I thought was the facility renting out the room that should be for the residents to outside parties. When I asked why they rent put they stated that they were there to entertain the residents but I saw no residents except for a few. I asked if they only had 10 residents which the response was well over 70 or 80 as I believe. While I was talking to the staff member I noticed the maintenance guys standing around laughing and talking out loud how cheesy it was and not making their pointing and laughing discreet what so ever. Also I noticed the remaining staff standing their enjoying the singing or at least entertained. When I asked my friends grandmother why she didn't go and watch she said she didn't even know about it. So if I'm understanding this right you have people coming on their spare time to entertain senior citizens who don't get much time out to go to live events and now they're getting the opportunity and the staff is enjoying their entertainment instead of going around to see if the residents that there are paid to take care of might want to enjoy the entertainment that is there for them and not just for the staff. I'm blown away by the fact that somebody literally had the humor in their own self to laugh at somebody's volunteering when they really should have been thinking about oh hey the residence that were paid to take care of might actually enjoy this. I came to the front desk and asked if I could talk to whoever is in charge of setting up these events for them and the manager that is in charge of these events wasn't even there that day. Do you have a whole group of what I saw was also senior citizens taking time out of their days to entertain other people not getting paid for this and being treated like they didn't even show up and then having the staff that's not only disrespecting them by not showing the residents there that they actually exist there for their entertainment but also laugh at them. I'm not saying all the staff is to blame in fact actually they might have been told nothing about it and I know their job is probably very full stressful as it is but I do blame this on the leadership for not saying hey we got some entertainment coming for these folks today make sure they come down or at least say something to them. My friend's grandmother probably only has a couple more years left and it's sad that she has to spend it in the place that is not going to respect her final years and what she might want to do to enjoy what time she has left. Might want to consider talking to your staff about not laughing and making fun of the volunteers or at least make sure that they do it where no one else can hear and see it.

If you have high medical needs this isn't the place. There aren't enough employees to provide the care they say can they can provide. The neglect of residents who pay top dollar care is appalling. If you're considering this place for a loved one, talk to residents.

Provides excellent care! You can tell the staff truly cares about their residents. Facility is always immaculate and the management treats the staff well. Residents are always doing activities and seem to enjoy the friendly environment.

I absolutely love this building! Every time you walk in the door you're greeted with a smile. They always have fun events and activities for the residents and community. They have great caring staff that treat the residents like family. I definitely give Southern Hills a 5 star!

I moved my Uncle in right after Christmas because he was not being cared for at his previous community. Sue Miller and her staff treat him like family. They call him Uncle Vic and love him and take care of him the way he deserves. He is so very special to me and I would never want him to have anything the best care available to him.

Moved mom in here last month. She loves it here, says that the people are all so friendly and helpful. My wife and I have found this to be very true. Teresa Dinsmore the community relations director there has been especially helpful, always going the extra mile to ensure that every little detail is being look out for. Great job Teresa. Another shout out for their all-around handyman Brice and his visiting dog, both are very helpful to making mom feel like this is really her new home! Thank you all so much, Great Place to Live!!

my mother has lived in this community of Southern Hills now for almost a year, the initial decision to move her here from her hometown of Portland was concerning, after all she had lived in her old community 50 years & had many friends & family nearby, but after her suffering from a stroke she needed full assistance so began checking out assisted living facilities in our area where I could check on her more frequently & after visiting about 5 other facilities we chose Southern Hills which is only 4 miles & 10 minutes from my husband & I, I have no doubt now that I made the right decision, when asking her the other day to review the facility she responded with " it's a lovely place to live " & I agree, she does complain about the food from time to time but the staff & the care she receives are in my opinion exceptional, she is always dressed neatly & is clean, thank you Southern Hills for giving the best care you possibly can for my mom & welcoming us each & every time we arrive, John & Debbie Groth Erica & Olivia, too

I toured recently and was so very impressed. I spoke with several staff members and residents. The community is bright and cheerful with music playing. The activities calendar is packed with fun things to keep all engaged,, they even have a trip to the coast planned. I will definitely return with my parents for a second look.

Our aunt recently moved into Southern Hills Assisted Living. The initial decision for her to move was difficult, and we all had reservations about her leaving the home she had lived in for 30 years, to live in a community setting. We now have peace of mind and know the right decision was made. She loves Southern Hills and shared with us that she should have made the move sooner. The staff at Southern Hills is exceptional, in particular, Mia Kerns, the Community Relations Director, whom we have connected with the most. Ms. Kerns supported our aunt and family during the initial visit by answering all of our questions, with transition logistics, the move-in details and in follow-up, after our aunt settled in. We are always welcome when we visit and encouraged to share a meal or participate in any of the many events/activities offered for the residents and families. The main take-away for our family is that our aunt is safe, well-cared for, has a new social network, and she is really happy in her new home. An added bonus, the food is excellent. We are grateful for all that Southern Hills does for our aunt and indirectly for us, her extended family.
