My father was a resident at Brookdale's memory care unit, and our experience was mixed. The good: The food was consistently good, and the staff was flexible about providing extra meals for spouse and visitors, which we appreciated. The rooms and bathrooms are a good size. A couple of staff members ” Sean and Eddie in particular ” were genuinely warm and caring. The concerns: Cleanliness was a recurring issue. Vacuuming seemed infrequent, and bathrooms did not seem to be cleaned on a regular basis. One side of the building also lacked adequate air conditioning, which is unacceptable in Florida. His room was routinely close to 80 degrees (he was only there in the cooler months fortunately). The "Daily Path" program was a major disappointment. It was heavily promoted during the sales process, but in practice it didn't really seem to exist. Day-to-day life for residents mostly consisted of meals and watching TV. There seemed to be very little meaningful engagement or structured activity that the memory care residents participated in. More concerning, a nurse overlooked a medical issue that should have been caught. When it came time to leave, the discharge process felt disjointed and informal. If you're evaluating memory care options, I'd encourage you to look past the sales p pitch and ask detailed questions about what a typical day actually looks like for residents.

I have nothing but nice things to say about their staff. Jayme Shepherd in marketing is the best. She goes above and beyond in making you feel welcome and thoroughly answers all your questions and concerns. Lisa is also great. She made sure she followed up with us after our tour we had with Jayme and also made us feel very welcome. Although we did not take an apartment at their facility in Lakeland, Jayme also helped with coordinating residency at another Brookdale facility. I give kudos to Jayme and the terrific staff at Brookdale! Highly recommend. The facility is outstanding.

Great team of employees. Our activities director offers many in house activities as well as trips to the casino, Publix, Walmart and different area restaurants on a weekly basis. Transportation available to doctor visits. Friday afternoons include Happy Hour with beer, wine, soda and ice cream. Come out and see our community for yourself, visit with our residents and talk with Jayme about a place for your family member.

I recently had to move my ninety year old friend who was like another dad to me Into to an assisted living facility. After much scouting, I decided on Brookdale in Lakeland Highlands. From the moment you get your tour by Jayme, you feel right at home. The place has so much to offer, plus the beautiful screened in porches and lake w the gazebo is picturesque. All meals are included in the monthly rate. There a are also many daily and weekly activities to help keep your loved one happy and able to enjoy life. ALL the staff members are extremely professional and friendly and there to assist you in any way that they can. Jayme is the wonderful lady who is happy to give you as many tours as you need. She is a delight to be around and let me just say...she loves flamingos...ask her if she will show you her office...it is beautifully decorated. All in all, my elderly friend is really adjusting well and enjoying living there. Thank you Brookdale!

BH has a friendly and respectful staff with little communication and ineffective management. My mom has been a resident for a year and a half and has yet to receive many of the benefits prescribed in her Care Plan: failure to stringently follow her diabetic nutrition boundaries, loss of her much-needed walker, failure to assist her with grooming, failure to promptly launder and return her clothes (many pieces have been lost), failure to consistently make or change her bed and the failure to keep her room clean and sanitary. My mom, despite instructions to the contrary, is allowed to stay in bed all hours and as a consequence can barely walk due to inactivity. In addition there has been no access to on-site salon or spa services although the facilities do exist. Frustratingly, staff does not respond to phone calls - indeed, they rarely even answer - and they seldom answer the secure door without persistently ringing the bell (and there is no functional bell on the inside). I have called, messaged and written (even twice to the State) and am received politely with assurances for improvement that simply don't happen. In fact, it seems to be standard practice not to respond to emails or phone calls based on my experience. I urge everyone who has a relative here to visit often and be vigilant. At $6k a month you may be surpised to see what your family member is NOT getting.

It's the one year anniversary of my mom joining the Brookdale Highlands Assisted Living Community. The administrator, head nurse and head of recreation are dedicated and hard working professionals. They work to do a great job for every senior. Thank you all for what you do!

Mom has been residing at Brookdale Highlands for almost 18 months. She enjoys her time and activities there along with the other residents and staff. Staff is friendly and helpful and as needs change it appears they do their best to keep up. My interactions are very positive and reinforcing she is in good hands. Facilities are clean and constantly being updated. Key staff members make me feel welcome and are readily available for open discussion as it pertains to my Mom and her needs or care. Sure, at times, things can be improved or slightly better with more staff, but it appears to be a good run facility and I appreciate the communication and candid conversations.

We had both our parents with Brookdale Highlands for two years. Mom was in Clairebridge and Dad next door in the assisted living facility. This team does a great job. They were both well cared for.The facility was clean, they had many activities on sight and small trips. They would bring Mom over to the other facility when a singer or party was happening. Caregivers are wonderful! Director and marketing know how to sell, but those two have absolutely no understanding of the term customer service. Brother and me Took Dad out for lunch yesterday. Brother brought his big SUV which even I have trouble crawling up in to. Dad grabbed the oh, Jesus bar, pulled himself in, placed his feet, and shut the door all on his own! GOD is Good! no matter the cost and complaints, Brookdale Senior Living has provided some amazing results with my Dad, Dad has always been my rock! He lost his game over the past 18 months due to COVID and Hurricane Ian, but bringing him to Brookdale restored not only his health, but my faith that anything is possible! I highly recommend this facility over past facilities! I just wish Brookdale would address their understaffing conditions b/c the staff really deserves some additional support! More support for Carlotta!

Understaffed and lacking solid team management. Problems range from the annoying inability to admit visitors timely to never answering the phone to neglect. I have complained multiple times about very specific issues such as cleaning room, removing soiled linens promptly, emptying trash promptly to following my instructions to help my mother dress, shower, and monitor her diet. A number of things have disappeared such as keys, glasses, clothing, lingerie to lamps being broken - of course none of this is "their responsibility". Most frustrating of all is the seeming interest in listening to my concerns and then doing little to nothing about them. Repeatedly.

Lovely but understaffed. Only 2 attendents at night. If one resident emergency requires both then a second emergency will be unnoticed. Similar Brookdale in Tucson has least four people at night. Are laws different in different states? Very dangerous.

I visited the home during a recent BLFS (Better Living for Seniors) breakfast event. The kitchen staff made a beautiful spread for us, which had a good variety and was tasty and fresh. The dining area where we held the meeting was tidy and clean. The staff were very pleasant.
