Choosing Sunrise of McLean, Reminiscence floor (memory care) has been the best decision we made for my mother. The Memory staff long time senior aides, Reminiscence Manager, the med tech and activities staff have made communications open and frequent. Everyone is kind, compassionate and caring throughout the building, from the maintenance to the front desk staff. Everyone greets Mom by name, with respect and genuine affection.The Activities and Volunteer Coordinator, also a long standing staff member, has made a great difference in daily activities some with Assisted Living. The facility is well maintained, rooms are light and airy, including her large studio with a view of the woods. The outdoor terrace on the memory floor is a major plus with big pots where she does her gardening. The garden on the main floor is her walking exercise path and a lovely place to visit. I'm impressed by Sunrise's philosophy and values, and the Executive Director's management style is engaging and responsive. She was a resident for four years and although in memory care, was engaged most of the time. During her last days she was genuinely well cared for by staff throughout the building.

I'm an entertainer who works in assisted living and memory care facilities throughout the Washington, D.C. region. Every month I travel to various facilities to sing, dance and make certain that residents have fun and remember the songs they grew up with. One of the facilities I have been going to for years is Sunrise Senior Living of McLean. I'm writing this review because I have been consistently impressed with the care and kindness that the staff there brings to interactions with residents that I've seen. They tend to generally work together as a team for the comfort and safety of those they've been entrusted with. This is true not only in their areas devoted to assisted living but also in their memory care. I have also had the pleasure of eating there. As such I can honestly attest to the fresh quality and flavors their chef brings to each dish while the wait staff is attentive to residents needs and their dietary requirements. In the northern Virginia area I've not seen any facilities that surpass Sunrise of McLean and only a few that are it's equal. Today I had the pleasure of visiting Sunrise of McLean and was truly blown away by how warm and welcoming the community felt from the moment I walked in. Matthew Veleber, the Director of Sales, provided a wonderful tour and took the time to thoughtfully walk me through everything the community offers. The recent renovations are absolutely gorgeous, and the community genuinely feels like home. What stood out to me most, though, is how tenured and dedicated the team is. It’s clear that the staff truly care about the residents and the environment they create every day. I was especially impressed by how caring and involved Julie Clouse, the Executive Director, is. Her leadership and presence are clearly reflected in the positive atmosphere throughout the community. I would highly recommend Sunrise of McLean to anyone looking for a warm, supportive place for a loved one.

I can say with certainty that my loved one received the best possible care during her time at Sunrise of McLean (Nov 2024 “ Jan 2026). My experience was stellar across the board. The team provided a high level of care through various phases, which made "aging in place" a reality for us - something that was incredibly important. Communication was excellent, both digitally and in person, and the facilities are beautiful. Having access to different environments - from the outdoor seating and activities to the cozy indoor areas - made a big difference in her quality of life. The staff is truly the best of the best; I couldn't have asked for a more compassionate team. A special thank you to Julie, Juliette, and everyone on the team for the work you do. The benefits here seemed endless. The location made logistics easy when we needed access to hospitals and/or skilled nursing facilities, and the proximity allowed us to spend as much quality time with her as possible. I highly recommend Sunrise of McLean to any family seeking peace of mind and top-tier care.

Sunrise of McLean has become a great solution for my mother to transition to her golden years. We discovered back in October of last year that my mother was not remembering things like she had in the past and started to see clear signs that she could no longer take care of herself. We decided to look at places that would suit her and her condition. We felt that with the professional guidance of Sunrise of McLean team that this was the right choice for her. They worked with us to make sure it was affordable for our financial situation. We feel extremely confident with the guidance of the Sunrise team of McLean that my 85 year old mother will be well taken care and have lots of fun in the process. We feel confident that she is in the right place for her, esp if her condition worsens and needs memory care. Sunrise of McLean feels warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in. Executive Director Julie has created an atmosphere where residents appear to feel at home and guests are welcomed. The staff are friendly, engaging, and attentive”regularly greeting residents, holding conversations, and checking on them throughout the day. Im unsure of Sarah’s position within the community but in observation she looks to truly adore the residents. This place is a wonderful community filled with genuine care from a genuine staff.

Due to limited mobility and non-weight-bearing restrictions following a knee replacement and a broken bone in my other leg, I chose the respite care option at this Sunrise location, which requires a minimum 30-day stay. (with the option to extend if needed) I stayed in an efficiency unit that came furnished along with a refrigerator, TV, and a very nice, safe bathroom that included grab bars and plenty of space to get in and out with a wheelchair. The room was clean, spacious, and filled with natural light”very comfortable during my recovery. The caregivers assigned to my unit were excellent”attentive, professional, and truly caring. The overall decor of the facility is warm, modern, and impeccably clean. I also really appreciated the beautiful outdoor patio area, which was a peaceful spot to spend time when weather allowed. The physical therapy team was another highlight of my stay. They came to my room every day to get me for therapy and were excellent at adjusting my treatment plan to meet my changing needs. I especially appreciated how they introduced creative, practical exercises that helped me prepare for my eventual discharge and return home. A special mention goes to the Executive Director, Julie, who is incredibly hands-on and dedicated. She’s clearly on top of everything and doesn't hesitate to jump in”whether it’s covering the front desk or assisting in the dining room when needed. That level of involvement speaks volumes about the leadership and overall quality of care at this facility.

First and foremost, the staff are very kind and caring. When my mom moved in, the staff went out of their way to be welcoming to her and us. They worked with us under a tight timeline to get her moved in and accomodate her needs. They even temporarily loaned her a couple of pieces of furniture until she could provide her own. The staff are friendly when you see them in the halls, at the front reception desk, and in the dining room. I've observed the staff being very patient with and understanding of the residents' needs. They take a gentle, caring approach to their work which is obviously important when dealing with those in need of care. My mom particularly likes some of the med techs who have taken time to get to know her. The facility is very nice. There are many common areas to socialize in, which gives my mom a nice change of space from her room. She likes that there are both indoor and outdoor spaces to relax in. The grounds and the building present very well and the decor is stylish and well appointed. My mom is a big fan of the food. She says her meals taste great and she loves the variety of choices available at each meal. She has described the food as "a step above." A big plus for those who need it: there are great physical and occupational therapists on site.

The staff were not only polite but also incredibly considerate and attentive, showing genuine care for the residents. My father entered memory care at this Sunrise location in June 2024 and passed away in January 2025 after suffering from dementia. I'm so thankful that there was an opening available and that the entire facility staff treated my father like their own family member. They are too many people to thank for helping my father feel secure and comfortable while he adjusted to his new home. Thanks to Tyreese who always greets everyone who enters the building with a warm smile. And thanks to Julie, the facility's Managing Director who facilitates collaboration among the staff residents and families, to Tam who seamlessly handled multiple changes to my father's medication, and to the top-notch memory care management team of Juliet, Amanda, and Babita. My dad was only at Sunrise for a relatively short time, but it was the most challenging stage of his life and the team at Sunrise helped care for and comfort him, which was invaluable.

I met with Julie the executive director at Sunrise earlier this week and I have to say the community is wonderful. There are a ton of community spaces for the residents and families to gather, and the new renovation makes the place truly look and feel like a luxury building. I had the pleasure of speaking to a few of the residents as well and they all had so many nice things to say about living there as well as the staff. I've been a PT for over 14 years - the staff and the community itself are fantastic. Julie truly cares about all of her residents at Sunrise and is working hard every day to ensure the best possible experience. It's an easy 5 stars from what I've seen.

My father spent about 2 weeks in hospice care on the memory care floor at Sunrise of McLean in late 2022 before he passed peacefully in his sleep. The staff were amazing. They were so incredibly gentle and took great care of him. They were also extremely kind to me while I was losing my father. The facility was meticulously clean and well kept. The food looked good, though my dad was past the point of eating much by then. I observed great communication between staff and residents, reassuring those who were confused or agitated. I am truly grateful to have found such great care for him.

This is a wonderful facility, warm and inviting and staffed by an incredibly caring team in every department. I've been in several different nursing homes over the years, as a volunteer and a visitor - this is the first I've been to that doesn't feel like a nursing setting. The common areas are beautifully furnished, comfortable, clean and well maintained. The food is great, there's a nice walled garden to get fresh air and sunshine and there's a variety of activities to keep residents active and engaged. Best of all, the staff is amazing. The caretakers are so kind, the PT, OT and nursing team are both careful and excellent and everyone is kind and courteous at every turn. Thank you to the team at Sunrise for giving my dad a positive 'path to home' in a setting that feels like a home, not a hospital!

Our ministry has been bringing Christian worship to Sunrise of McLean for about 14 months. During this time, we have been visiting at least once a week, and sometimes a bit more for special events / holidays. The residents are highly respected and seem very well cared for by the staff. We have not received even a single complaint about the care over these 14 months, but we have received many comments regarding the caring nature and loving-kindness displayed by the staff. There seems to be a genuine concern and devotion by the staff toward the residents. The staff is attentive, quick to respond to pages, and interact with the residents in a positive and encouraging manner. The staff takes their time, listens to the residents, and engages them in conversation in a manner that heightens social engagement and bolsters a strong sense of community amongst the residents. As a chaplain, I am extremely impressed at the level of respect the staff demonstrates toward the spiritual interest and needs of the residents. They happily assist them getting to and from worship services every Sunday. They will even show up occasionally and join the residents in song. There is a strong family like atmosphere in this community. Both between the residents and the staff. On one of our first weeks serving at Sunrise of McLean, staff greeted us with hugs and even provided us with a table to enjoy lunch with the residents. They have gone far above the call of duty to make us feel welcome and to assist us in caring for the spiritual needs of the residents. Staff has consistently demonstrated a deep concern for the health, safety, and well being of the residents. This goes far beyond a clinical type of care. The staff gives thoughtful and caring attention to how residents are engaging in activities and relating to other residents. From our perspective, the staff at Sunrise of McLean aren't just doing a job, they are devoted to making each and every resident feel like they are at home.

The reminiscent floor at Sunrise McLean is top notch. Residents are treated like family, embraced with love and well-cared for; they live in an environment very much like their own personal homes, with the sights and sounds of family room gatherings, communal eating, dishes clanking, people laughing - all of the home-like experiences. But most importantly, the care managers (and cleaning staff) on the 3rd floor truly love each resident and treat them as if they were their own family member, and I've actually heard the care managers say that the residents are their family and this is their home. Doesn't get any better than that for an assisted living facility!

Hardest care decision for our family was leaving Mom for her respite 30 day trial stay but was the best decision. Sunrise McLean was there for and with Mom through all the expected and unanticipated bumps. Mom has grown emotionally and even mentally allowing her children and even great grand children to see her happy and at her best. Mother's Day is the perfect time to call out Sunrise of McLean for their personalized, attentive, and loving care of our Mom. Sunrise McLean provides high quality and personal care, and was one of the first assisted living facilities in the Sunrise Franchise. From the franchise executives recommending the right location to the staff at McLean for executing transparently and compassionately throughout the pandemic...I am convinced there is no better home or franchise for our Mom. The front desk, wellness, care, and dining staff each network, execute, and operate as a unified team. They know Mom, her family, and communicate regularly with us before any issue can grow into a serious problem. The activity team works hard to quickly integrate Mom into the community and tasks that engaged our Mom and even challenged her. But, most they consistently remind Mom about each activity, even family members when we are there. My family has two relatives who are residents at different Sunrise facilities, and the consistency of care and amenities is remarkable demonstrating a strong franchise that scales and serves it residents well. My best advise for successful selection and residency is visiting often and staying involved with each team and your relative personally at Sunrise. This will provide different perspectives on your loved one. Room options range from single occupancy to having a room mate, and are have great lighting and views. The dining facility benefits from it's national supply chain, and the low sodium, heart healthy food is reasonably tasty. The menus and activities are posted digitally. Kudos to Sunrise for their great teamwork and loving care especially during this challenging time! Photo is Mom's sons helping in the beautiful Sunrise McLean Patio garden. What's amazing is the support by the staff and community who visited Mom in the dining hall and discussed her flower choices, colors, and need for watering.

Sunrise is a beautiful retirement building inside and out, the staff is excellent it’s very secure you can’t just walk in and out every guess has to sign in and out and get a name tag, if you looking for a quiet place to live that the place for you, there’s a dog Charlie that greet staff visitors and family, he’s very friendly and adorable.

I was not impressed with your behavior to some that you put in a time out away from others. When this nice older gentle men just asked me what time it was. yes I do have a TDO but also you made me someone with Mental retardion put into a room by herself. You snapping at me just made my depression, anxiety and behavior. While My boyfriend over 10years went upstairs to see his daddy Mr. McCarty. His son Larry Mccarty that I am engaged too. Which I Tammy Murphy can not get the shot cause it could kill me cause my medical issues and heart issues. Personnel I was very disapproved in the staff this time. 1st time I came their your staff very polite and family and friend friendly and I felt safe. But this 2nd time I had gone to the sunrise the nice older gentleman that live's their that has me for the time he was sweeter then the staff. This second time I went to your sunrise place which it felt like they did not gave a dam about people with speical needs. that Lady was really rude to me that is the reason I am giving it a 1 star rating. But the 1st time I came I gave you guy's a 5star rating. But truthly due to that staff lady I will not allow my parents that are in their 60's to ever live in a Sunrise senior place. That lady does not seems to understand people special needs because I am not allowed to be by myself unless it is for the restroom. 1 of this days that lady will mistreat another person and it might just be undercover boss. Just think of that next time before your female staff members 1 lady mostly. that lady made me feel worthless and like a piece of dog Sh_t or in nicer terms a load of crap. next time when I come and I am forced to be in a room by myself I will be putting it in my further book. Some of this writtening was some help from 1 of my 4 caregivers and 1 of my caregivers was a police officer.

My mother has lived at Sunrise of McLean for about 3 years. Her level of care has changed somewhat, but the transition has been smooth. The caregivers know her, and are generally very sensible in the care they provide. I recently brought my mother back from the Fairfax Hospital ER. I was very comfortable turning her over to the med tech in charge for the night. I knew he was competent and responsible, and caring. I also feel the activities are enjoyable and helpful, even though different residents on different days might be variably cooperative. But aren’t we all different on different days? I would give more than 4 stars. Though I never give five stars to anything. I always feel some room should be left before perfection.
