We couldn’t be happier now that we found Sunrise of North Hills for our mother. Alex, Carrie, and Dom, her wonderful evening caregiver, have all been amazing. Their kindness, compassion, and attention have given our family tremendous peace of mind. We are truly grateful to know that she is surrounded by people who genuinely care about her comfort, happiness, and well-being. We highly recommend Sunrise of North Hills to anyone searching for a caring, supportive, and welcoming place for their loved one.

My father lived at Sunrise at North Hills for 3 years. During his journey through struggling with dementia, the staff was always very loving and kind to my dad. He was well cared for and I never had to worry about him. The staff was responsive if I ever called and needed anything. They gave me peace of mind knowing that my father who no longer could care for himself was being treated with kindness and dignity during the last few years of his life. It helped enrich our relationship taking some of the stress of caretaking off of my plate, so that I could just focus on spending time with my sweet dad. I'm forever grateful to Sunrise at North Hills.

Dear Terri and Sunrise Staff, Saying thank you is inadequate to express my appreciation for the care my mother Sarah Forsyth received at Sunrise. I am forever grateful to those who talked to her, held her hand, brushed her hair, cared for her personal needs, helped to feed her, soothed her brow and eased her fears. The nursing staff was wonderful to work with and I knew they always wanted Momma to be comfortable. Looking back at the time Momma first entered Sunrise in assisted living I now have come to realize there were already signs of dementia that I was not aware of. The more I learned and the more the dementia progressed I was so thankful she could stay at Sunrise and move to memory care. Caring for Momma was not always easy I know, yet the staff showed nothing but understanding and compassion for her. It was so comforting to know there were people who understood her behavior and how to care for her. It was obvious close attachments and caring relationships had been made with Momma. Terri thank you for always being there for me and taking the time to listen to me and answer any questions I had. And to Simyah and Freda who were always positive and could make you smile on the darkest of days. Momma’s care was everything I wanted for her. With much love always,

Very professional staff, always clean and tidy, lots of activities, parties and outing. This is a great place where you can retire or have a parent stay if they are having loss of memory. This is a very inviting place for your loved one.

We were anxiously looking for a Respite Stay for an elderly friend, who was being released from a Rehab facility late last year. We stumbled on Sunrise of North Hills and absolutely found a gem. Instead of a temporary stay, our friend decided to remain at Sunrise for good. She moved from her temporary Studio into a nice 1 BR suite, before deciding she would like something larger, and now very much enjoys her spacious 2 BR apartment. Surrounded by her own furniture and favorite items, she truly feels at home there. The senior residence is in a nice and fairly quiet location, beautifully decorated and clean. Often fresh flowers greet you when entering the lobby area, and in the dining room as well. There is a wonderful courtyard area in the back, where residents can meet and enjoy the outdoors. We have mostly dealt with Grant Rogers in Sales and Marketing, who was always ready to help with whatever we needed. In fact, we have only good things to say about the entire staff, everyone is friendly and greets you with a smile, especially the wonderful concierge lady at the reception, Freda. She immediately makes you feel welcome and makes the place shine. We have visited very frequently and now, after close to a year, we feel comfortable in highly recommending Sunrise of North Hills. R. Here’s the bottom line. It’s fine to place your family member here to live, ***but you need to be able to keep in touch and check on them frequently***. I can think of 10 times where I have gone in to bathe my dad because the staff didn’t show up to do it. Today is the 11th time. I used to have to do his laundry but they have gotten better about that recently. Also if you think the health of your parent is declining be sure to get an outside referral as I find the medical staff doesn’t do a great job at catching problems. The staff is pretty good at infection control and keeping everyone vaccinated, so that is a big help.

My mom has been at Sunrise for 8 years. The peace of mind having here at Sunrise has been immeasurable for my siblings & me. The staff is always friendly, caring, & helpful. Covid was a nightmare for everyone including assisted living facilities who lost a lot of staff and had to hire contractors. Thankfully, we made it through. The bottom line is no place is perfect. People who work in this field”-the good ones””are saints.

Please do not send your parent here. There has been a steady decline in this facility with high staff turnover who do not care. I have seen them on their phones and having loud personal conversations. No one noticed when my mother, who was in memory care, was terribly short of breath and lips were turning blue. They could not find a pulse oximeter and I ran to my car to get my own. At a level of 87, my mother was in a state of oxygen deprivation, atrial fibrillation and respiratory collapse by the time EMS arrived. All this happened as I just happened to visit her that day. I had noticed that the cleanliness of her clothing, bed sheets, state of the bathroom, etc., were all dirty. My mother was hospitalized 2xs in 2 months because of the state I found her in. She died 2 weeks ago.

After looking at several different memory care facilities, I decided on Sunrise North Hills. It was a great decision. Everyone (management, staff, kitchen, cleaning, maintenance and activity workers included) shows care, comfort and kindness to my father and our family. Sunrise North Hills has become like a family to us. Activity directors, management and staff work really hard to keep the residents involved and active while always coming up with new projects, activities and many special occasion holiday events. Communication from management and staff is excellent and very much appreciated. You have many caring people and should be so proud of that at Sunrise North Hills. We are so grateful to all for the care my father is receiving.

Greetings to all whom are considered friends and staff. I am the twin sister of Roy Marshal Johnson (room 324)who passed away Oct 31. Although he was at your facilities a very few short years, when my husband and I came to visit from Michigan, we felt very welcomed and knew he was being taken care of sweetly and loved by you all. Thankyou for all you did. Love in Christ, Linda Johnson Keene, Marshall’s “twinnie”

My feedback is specific to our experience in Memory Care for both of my parents, admitted to Sunrise North Hills in May 2019. However, this information may still be relevant if you are considering Assisted Living as Memory Care could be required for your family member in the future and moving to a new facility is something you will want to avoid if possible. After a thorough review of available Assisted Living and Memory Care facilities in the Raleigh/Wake Forest area, Sunrise North Hills was our second choice. Our top criteria were, #1 quality of patient care, #2 proximity to their family members and church, #3 clean, bright facility, and #4 cost. When an unexpected medical condition required full time professional care for my father, our first choice did not have a room available. We admitted my parents to Sunrise North Hills and within the first week, we were experiencing issues with their care and administrative aspects. As issues arose, we provided management with timely, detailed feedback hoping to improve their care and living experience. After 6 months of worsening care and conditions, we reached out to our first choice Memory Care facility and were able to transfer them within a few days. This was not an easy decision as a move is quite traumatic for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease. However, we are so thankful that we made the move! While not perfect, the care and living experience at the new facility meets our expectations and when issues arise, management and staff are extremely responsive and take appropriate actions. What is particularly interesting is that the new facility is providing better care with a significantly lower monthly cost. While my overall rating is low, there were a few care-givers that were amazing, but unfortunately, they were the exception. Also, want I acknowledge that providing care to those with dementia is not easy. But as our experience has shown, it is possible to deliver care that meets reasonable expectations.

While there are some fabulous, caring individual care-givers...the management is atrocious. Beware. Ask lots of questions. We had my parents there for about 6 months and our concerns were not addressed. The head nurse will not allow residents to return after hospitalizations until the resident is "back up to their previous baseline" which we know is not going to happen with dementia. We were clear from the beginning that our first concern was keeping my parents together, but due to his decline, my father was kept away at a rehab facility after having two hospital stays with pneumonia, while my mom didn't remember where he was. What a nightmare, she didn't understand why she had to move from her home, and then her husband was gone two times. Of course they were continuing to bill for the spot (but not the care) during the 12 weeks. I recommend that you utilize hospice, they can help you navigate unnecessary hospital stays. Visit Sunrise's memory unit at different times of day. Do not base your selection on the Assisted living facility, which is much better, as your loved one will probably need to be moved at some point to memory care. Some workers were callous, at meal time and other times being loud, silly, talking amongst themselves, playing current music, not what the residents would enjoy. Not a calm or pleasant atmosphere for meal time. One time I found a caregiver asleep in a chair while working. Sad. So sad. I apologize to the kind caregivers that are the exception at the facility.

We moved Mom in almost a month ago. I have nothing but praise for this facility and staff. She is a challenging resident, but everyone does their very best to see that she is both safe and comfortable. Highly recommend!
