Reviews Bickford of Carmel
May 2026
Our family recently made the difficult decision to remove my mother from Bickford after ongoing concerns related to medication administration, hygiene support, communication, and overall consistency of care. Over the course of her stay, we repeatedly documented concerns involving multiple days of missed medications, highly inconsistent medication timing ranging from 4am to 1030am, lack of supervision during medication administration, missed meals, and prolonged hygiene lapses. After requesting a urine screen multiple times over several months, a UTI was ultimately confirmed only after visible blood was observed and outside testing was performed. What was most concerning to us was not a single mistake... we understand caregiving is difficult and emergencies happen. It was the repeated lack of follow-through, lack of communication, and the need for our family to continually monitor and identify issues ourselves. Memory care residents rely heavily on routine, oversight, and consistency. Families should not have to review cameras to confirm whether medications were administered or meals were provided. We truly hoped this placement would work and did not make the decision to leave lightly. In the end, for her health and safety, we felt we had no choice but to move her. No family should have to fight this hard for basic care, communication, and follow-through.

Management and staff are excellent.

We like Bickford of Carmel very much. In our experience it is just the right size, resulting in a friendly, homelike atmosphere. The food is nutritious and delicious, and the staff is caring and competent. The activities director has just outdone herself yet again, this time with the splendid Olympics party she created for the residents. (The laughter and celebratory cheers are likely still ringing in the common area and the bistro.) The administration is open and welcoming, eager to work through any concerns brought to their attention. The new landscaping is attractive and inviting. This assisted living and memory care home really is a good place. My husband and I recommend Bickford of Carmel highly.

This hidden gem of a building is wonderful. The ability for residents to walk around inside and the beautiful courtyard is perfect for those that need to walk. There are plenty of activities and outing for residents to participate in. Being a locked building residents are safe from wondering on to 116th street. Tenured clinical and management team is great, they give so much love and care to all residents. Stop by and meet the team.

We went to check out the facility and we were kindly met by Jason (x2) executive director. Both of these genuine men talked in depth with us about the care and safety of the residents. We received a tour and we are diligently considering this placement for my MIL.

My dad is a resident in Assisted Living & I have worked in the Senior Living Industry for 27 years. Love the quaint charm, small town feel, friendly staff, great location & delicious food. We're very pleased!

I do not have a loved one at Bickford. I was hired to paint a custom mural around a door that residents kept trying to wander through, and often setting off the door alarm. I was really impressed by Bickford Reserve. I listened to the nursing staff care for the elderly for almost 6 hours while I painted, and they were so kind. One nurse sat with a lady for awhile and talked to her about her family photos and old memories. She joked with her about her own life and spoke respectfully, and joyfully. She didn't speak to the elderly woman like a child, but more like a loving grandchild. I heard them help and serve two meals, keeping them content, and helping them with their silverware. The facility, was just amazing. I wish my Grandparents had been able to be given such a wonderful home for their end of life. I was happy to be part of making their lives safer and more enjoyable.

My mother has been here for a few years. Initially the communication was great and I felt that she was well cared for and enjoying her surroundings. I enjoyed seeing pictures of her posted by staff on their social media page. Months ago this all changed. Other than mass emails there is no communication. The only postings on social media are job postings. I am concerned and wish I didn't live so far away.

My mother is much happier since moving to The Bickford. They have some expectations of their residents to be part of their community and my mom has risen to the challenge. I like The Bickford because the staff has a can-do attitude. Mom isnt easy and the staff at her former residence didnt problem solve as a team. I would get phone calls regarding her behavior at all hours from all departments. At The Bickford I have one key person who is conscious of my time zone. Better yet, the staff finds solutions before behavior becomes problematic. I spend time with my mother quarterly, so my opinion may only benefit those in a similar situation. We do have a private duty caregiver who checks in sporadically. She says this is where mom belongs.

I have placed several referrals at The Bickford because it is a Family Atmosphere, full of Love an fantastic care. The Bickford is an Open Concept, so the residents can walk around an they are encouraged to participate in all of the activities that are always going on. The Bickford is an Assisted Living an a Memory Care, staffed very well with a dedicated Executive Director who has a passion to put Resident First.

The move to the Bickford has been a positive experience for my mother. She is making a lot of new friends and joining in all of the activities that they have available. She loves that she can go out of her room and talk to people. She loves how clean the place is and how friendly everyone is. The housekeeping does a very good job, she enjoys that they go into her room and make her bed. The meals are decent, the portions are good and she likes walking into the dining room for her meals. I really like that it is a lock down memory unit so I have the peace of mind that she will never walk out and not be able to find her way back.

The Bickford of Carmel was the best fit for mom! The staff have been patient and wonderful with caring with her needs. They are proactive and call me with any concerns that come up with her care. They offer a variety of activities that mom has been participating in. She is enjoying partaking in the activities. She has been eating well and likes the variety of good meals offered. The community is a very safe and secure community. It is very well kept and always smells nice.

I looked here when I was looking into options. I liked it but it was just a little too small for our needs, with only about 35 apartments.

Overall our experience with Bickford of Carmel has been a good one. I really like the care strategy that they use at Bickford. All of the staff, even the managers and other administrative staff, help out with the cleaning, serve in the dining room, etc. For the most part it works very well and all of the residents get a lot of attention and care! There are a few instances where a more tightly organized system would benefit them, but overall my loved one is doing very well here!
