My Aunt and Uncle moved here almost a year and a half ago after looking at several other senior living options in the area. Unfortunately my Uncle passed almost a year after moving in but both loved living here and were very happy with their choice. My Aunt still lives here and is very happy! She feels safe, has made many good friends, participates in a lot of the activities and really appreciates the dining options. Now 93, my Aunt recently said, "I couldn't be anywhere else where I am so well taken care of. I feel safe and happy in so many ways." As a none resident but one very involved w/my Aunt's life here, from day one the team at The Residences has been wonderful to work with - professional, flexible, very helpful and always kind. The first year was a bit rocky for them (due to my Uncle's health issues) but the team at The Residences went above and beyond to ensure that they, and the immediate family, had what was needed and knew what the options were. There were many positive aspects of Shelburne Bay that can be highlighted. The facility is magnificent and managed by a responsive, Executive Director. The nursing staff, although short-staffed during the end of our time there, was responsive and handled several medical emergencies appropriately with excellent communication to the family. The dining hall was exceptional, and the front desk was staffed by a truly invaluable addition to their staff. What was missing was consistent, adequate care at a level typically expected in an assisted living environment including consistent medication handling, escorted to group activities, etc. After three months of living in Shelburne Bay, we moved my parents to a facility in New York where they are receiving what we consider to be a far-better level of assisted living care.

We moved to Shelburne Bay on 5/31/23. Our daughters picked this Community out for us. Before we moved here, both Sarah and Todd visited with our daughter Patricia and her husband John. They let them into the apartment. My husband had lots of questions about what it was like, but we moved in site unseen. When we moved here my husband was just so pleased, and he actually made that statement that night. If I had known it would be this nice we would've moved six months sooner. That was music to my ears because he truly did not want to leave Michigan. We have a dog, Rosie, and we were able to move her with us. She's a beagle, We are lucky enough to have an apartment that's right on the courtyard and so she goes out on a leash. I clean it up every couple of days and Rosie thinks she's in charge of the courtyard. She watches the people walk around the paths. She doesn't pay any attention to the squirrels. There are apple trees in the courtyard and in the fall people just go out and pick apples. It's just a beautiful place to retire. I can't say enough about the maintenance staff they have gone out of their way to be helpful to be supportive. We didn't have furniture at first. Kathy (the head of maintenance at the time) and my daughter-in-law brought in a bunch of furniture that we use for a couple of months. All we had when moved in was a bed, a desk, and the computer set up. So that was the first great experience. We love the view in the courtyard which is lovely every season we've been here. I inherited a plot with terrific garden, and I look forward to the lilac bush due to bloom in spring , but for all the seasons, everything is decorated beautifully. During the winter our neighbor has a bird feeder he keeps filled, and therefore all winter long we were lucky enough to have a variety of birds in the lilac bush, which is right outside our living room window. Everyone here is helpful, and nobody is invasive. I just cannot say enough good things. I could work for marketing here. I think this is a really terrific place. I haven't met all the residents, but the residents I've met come from all kinds of interesting backgrounds. Right before Christmas, one of the residents who I met and know only as an acquaintance called one day and said, could I bring something down to you and I said sure she came down bringing a bouquet. There's a group that meets every two weeks on flower arranging, and she just made a bouquet of flowers for us to cheer us up. That just summarizes how nice people are here.

I moved to The Residence at Shelburne Bay March 2024. I had visited several independent residences in the area but kept coming back to the one at Shelburne Bay. The atmosphere at The Residence was appealing and positive. The staff are friendly, professional and welcoming. The residents were friendly as soon as you walked through the doors. You can be as involved as you choose each day. A list of activities is available daily. Because I did not know anyone at The Residence before moving in, I particularly appreciated the freedom to sit at any table in the dining room at every meal. It is a wonderful way to meet many of the wonderful and interesting people who live here. The grounds are beautiful, with many trees and a lovely walking path. It is a delightful place to stay young at heart while continuing to grow older! I am grateful every day to be here. Ellie Bushweller

We have been very pleased with the facility, food and support team at Shelburne Bay. They have worked extremely hard to ensure as smooth as possible transition into their independent living community for my mom, including a terrific ongoing calendar with many choices of activities. When we have had requests, the staff has found a path to yes! In addition, the residents have been open and engaging. We are very appreciative of the support, and would strongly encourage those looking for a clean, safe, comfortable Vermont-feel environment to explore the offerings at Shelburne Bay

We are very pleased with our apartment at Shelburne Bay. It is bright, cheerful and quiet. The employees and staff here are hardworking and sincere in their efforts to make one comfortable. They are working with an aging facility that needs the backing of the owners in updating and modernizing. Resident and staff are working to inform those owners to pay attention to those needs.

I am working with a woman who is staying at Shelburne Bay. She says that her experience here has been really nice. The food is super good and the staff are amazing and very helpful all around. The apartments themselves are very well maintained and really spacious for a single person.

We moved here after 25 yrs in metro Atlanta. There were lots of other places we also looked into and chose The Residence at Shelburne Bay because it had everything we were looking for and brought us back to New England. The residents as well as staff made us feel very welcome from day one and continue to do so. There are many wonderful daily activities including weekends, walking paths, beautiful location looking at trees and Lake Champlain. We are in a 2 bdrm corner unit with lots of windows and full kitchen. Included are 3 wonderful meals a day in a lovely dining room with plenty of menu options. We are very happy and comfortable here. We highly recommend The Residence at Shelburne Bay and invite you to join us when you are looking for Senior Living. ‚

My parents moved in almost five years ago. They shared a two bedroom apartment in assisted living until my father passed. He was blind and had dementia. Dad loved it there and was able to participate in many activities. He especially loved the dining room where they knew his name and favorite meals, just like a regular. My mother was very grateful for the caregivers’ compassion and support after my father died. My mother was fiercely independent and private, which the staff supported while keeping her safe. I felt like my mom received the best care possible in a lovely residence with beautiful grounds. My mom loved the walking path around the pond and sitting on the bench to listen to the wildlife. It always made me smile to see rocking chairs filled with residents in amongst the flowers on a sunny day. Mom just passed after a year-long slow decline and then rapidly failing for two weeks. The caregivers were amazing! They supported my mom and myself through a very difficult time. I cannot imagine going through that alone. Thanks to everyone!

When I was first moving my mother to VT from out of state, she was interviewed via Zoom to determine placement. It was suggested she move right into the memory care unit (Reflections). I was quite surprised at the time, but clearly see now (1.5 yrs later) that the person who made this decision made the right decision by far. I am so grateful for everything the staff does for our mom. The nursing staff, the associates, the maintenance team, the kitchen staff and their amazing food, the entire place is so much more than I could have asked for. Mom's room is always tidy and mom is always clean and well cared for. She is treated like she is part of each person's family, with kindness, dignity and respect. The Residence at Shelburne Bay is truly amazing, they have my total trust, and I highly recommend them.

Nice facility in good condition, staff is generally helpful and kind. Slightly concerned regarding COVID precautions. One of the receptionists does not wear their masks properly (mask is worn below the nose). They are right near where people sign in-out.

My parents moved to Shelburne Bay in October of 2019, first to Assisted Living and later to Memory Care (Reflections) managed by Lydia Raymond. The engagement staff in assisted living were welcoming, interesting, and a joy to be around. They welcomed my kids and I to join in on the fun anytime which we did often (pre-COVID) Musical events, chair exercise, and trivia were some of our favorite activities. When Mom moved to Memory care the staff spent a lot of time listening to the family to help with her adoption to the new unit. No one wants to be in a position where this level of care is needed and there were some bumps as you would expect but Lydia and her team were always open to feedback and we worked together to adapt routines and the environment to best meet Moms needs (ever changing for a dementia patient) They never said no, it was always a conversation and an exchange of ideas. This level of collaboration with the family is not found everywhere and I truly hope they recognize how special they are. I would also comment that Lydia is working hard to groom a close-knit care team whom truly enjoy what they are doing and dont reek of burn-out. They treat the residents on this unit like family and they take their responsibility to care for them seriously. Also an important indicator, some staff on this unit openly shared they like working here above other facilities as the workload is more fair. I truly hope corporate rewards the members of this team who go above and beyond. They make all the difference.

We have recently had to move my mother-in-law from assisted living to memory care at the Residence at Shelburne Bay. All of the staff, from Director to aide, have been extremely helpful, kind, and understanding. Having had experience with a few other similar residence options for Mom we are so glad to have been connected to the Residence at Shelburne Bay. Our heartfelt thanks to all who have helped us!

This is one of the best place you can put your family members, we have the most caring staff that care for the residence like there family. My mother has been a resident here for 7 years, the first 6 in indep living and now in assistive living. There has been a lot of instability over the years, esp recently . We have seen 6 administrators come and go. Most recently a cut in caregiver staff and getting rid of an outstanding program that provided assist on a temporary basis as needed . The caregivers there work very hard to provide excellent care but do not feel supported by management. Communication to families and residents is poor. Changes happen quickly without much warning. This is a for profit facility and the emphasis seems to be more on profit than care

My parents moved into Shelburne Bay two weeks ago and everything seems to be going well. Their apartment in independent living is bright, airy and well layed out. They are very comfortable there and love the idea of their own patio and small yard. Everyone they have met has been friendly and helpful.
