Our experience with Prairie Hills at Ottumwa has been extraordinary. I started contacting Meg more than 8 months before mom actually needed to move in. From the first time we talked and every time we spoke over the months afterwards, Meg was an invaluable resource in helping us evaluate options, find care, and then ultimately move mom in. Each time she was warm, patient, and very helpful. The facility is extremely well cared for, clean, warm, and lovely. We could not be more blessed that mom has such a wonderful new home with professional and competent and caring staff.

Prairie Hills takes time to get to know every single resident. They cater meals, activities, and care plans to each residents specific interests and needs. Their SPARK Program is unlike any other and uses Montessori style techniques to engage their Memory Care Residents. Check out their Facebook page to see them in action!

Our Mom has now been at Prairie Hills for over a year now. She is truly enjoying living in this wonderful active community. There are lots of activities to choose from every day, including regularly scheduled trips around the area to see all thats going on. She enjoys her apartment and is able to keep track of the visiting birds, deer, and other wildlife outside her window. The staff is absolutely wonderful, keeping everything operating smoothly, and their care and attention to the happiness and well being of all residents is wonderful to see. In addition, the Facebook page is actively managed, enabling family and friends to see all the activities and happenings.

I was the Director of Nursing at Prairie Hills for nearly two years. The staff is fantastic, and the residents are always involved in an activity of some sort. Prairie Hills at Ottumwa is so different than what I thought an Assisted Living facility would be like! If you want your loved one to be involved in activities, well fed, and well cared for, yet still have their independence with the extra added benefit of staff members nearby if they are needed, then you will definitely want to check out Prairie Hills at Ottumwa Assisted Living!

I want to give our heartfelt thank you to ALL the staff at Prairie hills. It takes special people to care for the elderly. Even when they was challenged they found a way to make it work. It takes a team to do all they do from the kitchen to maintenance. Secretary to front office. However the loving staff on each shift ,minute by minute stay strong and care for the elderly. Thank all of you as a team making it work for my family and taking great care of P. Dwayne Yates.

July of 2013 was a good day for my parents. My Dad told me to find a place were they could live. He had a heart that wanted our Mother established in a home where she would get help if something should happen to him. He passed in March of 2014 and Mother was left to a wonderful loving caring family. Prairie Hills has helped her through so much. She is now sight impaired and has trouble finding her way yet she is alert. The assisted living has given her many things to be proud of. She lives in her own apartment with help in her medications and they make sure her bird feeder is even kept full. We her children are so happy to see our mother happy with her living arrangements. Thank you to the staff at Prairie Hills for all you do for her and for all the other residents who always are active and doing things. I would recommend Prairie Hills Assisted Living to other who need a good place to live with some help. The meals are good or at least that is what Mom tells us.

I was invited by Megan to come to Prairie Hills Assisted Living to do Caricatures of the residents living there. I set up at a long table large enough that several people could sit and visit while I drew Caricatures of them. It was in one of the community lounge sitting areas on the south side of the building which provided great lighting. Many had never had a funny drawing done of themselves before. All of the staff were very helpful. They have lots of different activities for the folks living there. I believe the residents are always encouraged to do new things they have never tried before. I especially noticed the way Megan gently kept on encouraging one of the redidents who was a bit undecided to have her caricature drawn. Finally after she watched everyone else get their’s done, she finally was ready to let me draw her. I had a great time talking with them and enjoyed hearing their stories and listening to them tease each other and laugh together about their caricature drawings. It’s just never too late to try something you have never done before!

In December of 2017, the facility my brother, Scott, had been a resident of, recommended Scott needed additional services not available in his currently environment. After an extensive search Prairie Hills was discovered. While it required a relocation from our family home in Centerville, the professional staff, extremely fine facilities and complete service offering more than compensated. My bother is much happier here than any other previous. Environments. I, having responsibility for his care and wanting him comfortable, am tremendous pleased with Praire Hills. His room, food service and care reflect the highest possible standard of professionalism we all want for our loved ones. A final comment I would share is the ease and openness of working with the staff and support personnel at Pairie Hills. They are very willing to listen to and eager to adjust services to.meet individual needs. I simply can not recommend this too highly - it is a wonderful place.

Mom is blind and has trouble hearing but is very independent and she loves her home at Prairie Hills. They tell me often she does well around the place. Not quite as fast as she was but still walks quickly around. The staff is very nice.

Prairie Hills was supportive and amazing for my Mom’s care when she needed physical therapy and rehabilitation after being dismissed from the hospital following broken hip surgery. The staff and residents helped Mom acclimate to life at Prairie Hills from pre-planning for move-in with the director to needs assessment with the nurse to care planning with Mom, the nurse and needs care cost formulation. Our family felt so happy having Mom reside in such a beatiful “home” with such a supportive “community”! Mom loved meals, hairstyling and activities such as music programs, game competitions, bus trips and wonderful activity schedule. Thank you Prairie Hills!

You will not go a day around this community without finding something exciting going on! The happy faces of residents will make you smile! Today the photos of red nose day are fantastic! And if you missed the ones of the goat in the garden - page down and check it out! The one of the "kid" suckling on a residents earlobe is priceless! The sheer look of shock / delight compares to no other! Check it out!

Our mom is still very independent and gets around well. But she needed a bit of assistance and it was time to take the responsibility and expenses of home ownership off of her shoulders. Prairie Hills has offered the best of all benefits for her, and for our family. Her apartment and the entire building are very nice, well lit, easily accessible with comfortable surroundings in a one floor setting. Mom enjoys the personal touches and comforts, outdoor space, and little things that comfort and mean a lot to her. Staff is caring and accommodating. Its been a very good fit for mom. And it is so good to know that ppl are close by and keep good check on mom - when we are 90 miles away.

Mom moved into Prairie Hills.. September 19 .. it hasnt been a very long time yet but she has settled in very quickly .. She was just telling me the other day how much she loves it there and wished she had gone sooner !!! No more worries for us about her .. she is well cared for ..she gets her meds safely and on time ..if she needs assistance for whatever reason she has it.. She is getting 3 healthy meals a day and lots of social activities and still has her own space when she wants it .. no worries of her falling outside in the cold while shoveling snow or putting out trash .. The staff is friendly and careing .. mom said they even get silly and it makes it fun and she said we all get silly .. she said we are just one big group !!! Im so happy for her ..Its a great place to live !!

Angie is freaking awesome and goes above and beyond to keep the residents busy. I would recommend this place. It is hands down above other facilities.
